I love this place! I've lived in the bay area, reno and now reside in grass valley ca. I didn't know it would be so hard to find a quality dinner in this area! darn-it! Amazing cheese and bread dip and the soups are off the hook! Thanks MonkeyCat for delivering awesome food and great ambiance!
Very delicious, great atmosphere, friendly service. Fancy dining, but not too expensive.

Monkey Cat comes in as not only one of the best restaurants in Auburn, but one of the best in South Placer County. Friendly staff and a rustic decor make for what the area lacks: individuality and a unique dining experience. I always found portions to be satisfying and the menu items to be uber creative yet palatable for all food fans. The Eggplant wrapped seabass and ahi stuffed calamari that I ahd when I attended was superb and reminiscent of dining delights one would find in a major city.

This is a great place in town for a little bit more refined dining. The first time I had been to this place, I was not impressed. The service was sub-par and it was freezing in February (fans on high blast, asked if they could be at least turned down a notch, too late to be moved to another table). The food was ok, I have had better.
The second time I went equated to a much better experience. The food was amazing and the service above average. Wide selection to choose from in regards to food, but it would do good if they would beef up their wine menu a bit for the individuals who have frequented more fine dining establishments.
So my rating lands at a four to balance the two experiences.
Owner Jim Bril has done a superb job with the Monkey Cat Restaurant. We took Rachel's mom there recently and had a great time. Crab cakes for an appetizer and a great seafood dish for dinner. Perfect. Service is excellent and atmosphere is great. I didn't see the Asian Duck Salad on the menu during the last visit (it was one of my favorite dishes) and they seem to have changed the Monkey Cat Burger around a little bit. The bun was a bit too dense for me. Otherwise, it's still a great restaurant and is quickly becoming a cornerstone of Downtown Auburn, much like Bootleggers has become for Old Town.

This place is top drawer all the way from the friendly service to the entree through the dessert. Love the halibut smothered with slivered strawberries and zucchini topped off with key lime tart for a fabulous finish. Try the patio for outside delight when it's cooler.
