This shop is so sweet - filled with so many interesting pieces of clothing and jewelry in a small space - how do they do it? Everything is very high quality.
I live only a few blocks from the store so I've stopped in often over the past year or so, and staff are always friendly and helpful. The selection changes often so there are always new pieces to see. Beautiful jewelry, gifts and clothes. I love that everything is made here by local artists. -

I love this place! I've been coming here since April to get my feather extensions done (and re-done) and the girls are always so accommodating, helpful, and do a great job. They even allowed me to have a small "feather party" where I brought a few of my friends in and we had some wine and cheese!
All their clothes and jewelry all look great, too. I have yet to purchase any merchandise, but for sure will one of my visits in! -

I recently paid a visit one evening with money literally burning a hole in my pocket. I had spent three days in San Francisco and done very little shopping. I desperately wanted to pick up a few unique items to bring home with me to Canada and was thrilled to literally stumble on The Mission Statement.
It was really a cute little shop filled with beautiful items. I was overwhelmed by the selection of interesting pieces of clothing and accessories, which is really why it's too bad that the shopgirls didn't speak one word to my friend or I the entire twenty minutes we spent looking around. The store was empty aside from us the entire time making it incredibly uncomfortable and awkward.
I was quite happy to spend my money two blocks away in a store filled with friendly, helpful staff. -

I got feather extensions done here and gotta say that I LOOOOVVVEEEE them! The girl who put them in for me was super nice and helped me picked where I wanted them/what color looked best. She also said that once they fall out I can bring them in and they will put them in again for cheaper!
This place is also an adorable boutique with cute trendy clothes for cheap! Can't wait to go back.Listed in: All things GIRLY!

Great place to buy/support local artist! We purchased custom made jewelry from Vanessa and another great hair piece for our wedding. We will definitely be back!

Smh- I came here because I needed a quick jacket I was in town & forgot to bring one. They were close to my destination & open. I walked in at 8:35 about 25 minutes to closing-- wow super attitude I was not greeted or even acknowledged. If I wasn't in a rush and desperate for something to keep me warm I would have walked right out. Super awkward in a really tiny store. I found a pullover type thing for 60 dollars. ( if Ross was near I could have found something similar for $20. Anyway I bought thinking at least someone local is benefiting rather than some CEO sweat shop jerk off still I was frowning inside at myself for patronizing terrible service basically saying it's okay to be like that I'll still buy-- no not really, they made some bucks off my rushing & situation. The selections are not bad.

I really, really, really want a top from this store so this review is completely biased. The only reason I am not going to walk over and get said top, which is a sample, very reasonably priced, very well-made, and very cute, is that I am going to Europe in a week and am *trying* to save.
Anyways, this is a fabulous little store. For local designer pieces, it's reasonably priced and the staff has always been friendly. The only slightly annoying thing is that it's never really true to its hours. I've gone there twice when the MS is supposed to be open to find the gates still locked... -

Maybe they should revise their statement.
Just so you don't get me wrong, I come from a mindset of supporting independently owned businesses and fostering creativity in all its manifestations.
I happened to accidentally stumble across this store while exploring in the Mission, a spontaneous idea of mine to explore all of SF's boroughs and broaden my consumerist drive.
In their defense, they may have an off kilter inventory right now, but I didn't find any remotely interesting pieces. First, it took at least 10 minutes of going through the racks to figure out if the store was vintage or if it was new merchandise. I finally figured out it wasn't vintage when I actually held up an item and sniffed it and when a man walked in with one of the designers discussing alterations to a piece he was buying.
I did see a decent piece here and there, but all I can remember at this moment is the awful hippie-come-homeless-come-neanderthal vests and coats: think of an explosion of muppet skin, sequins, crazy-colored satin and knick knacks flying onto and adhering to a piece of clothing.
I would say check this place out at different times of the year as they may have a good selection. As for me, I will never step foot in this place again. The customer service was abysmal (they don't say hi) and it's in the middle of crack alley (same block as the smooshed human feces). -

I love supporting local designers and when I heard that the Mission Statement was opening, knew I needed to trek across town to check it out. I am always on the hunt for unique pieces, especially when shopping for gifts. There's nothing less gratifying than sending someone the same t-shirt or earrings they can buy in their own city. We live in SF, with a vibrant design community and we should completely take advantage of that!
I first wandered into the Mission Statement right before last Christmas, desperate to get something within my budget and uniquely designed. A tall order, especially since I had several hard to shop for people. Less than an hour later, my bag was full with some beautiful earrings, a wonderful light wool wrap, a nightgown and t-shirt. The prices varied from reasonable (the nightgown was $20! to slightly more expensive - jewelry was $100).
Note: There were items that were much more expensive to purchase - including some nice jackets and bags.
The best part was discussing the jewelry with the jeweler herself - Vanessa Gade was behind the cash register the day I arrived. Turns out that each of the folks whose works are part of the store have to work a day or two a week. That makes the experience that much more valuable.
The Mission Statement and RAG are my two favorite stores in the city for this reason. -

I've been shopping here since they opened, and now about half of the shirts I wear are from Culture Consumer. It's starting to be a problem--I have clothing that's been oppressed into the depths of my dresser drawers in favor of silk-screened designs. Poor things.
Aside from shirts, I buy gifts for friends (just bought a cute lacy top for a friend out of the $20-$30 bin--shhh, don't tell her how cheap her gift was), and i lust after the jewelry. sometimes I give in on jewelry too. i'm such a sucker. i also bought a lamp for my bedside table here. it's as much of a one-stop shop of local products as i need a boutique to be! -

This is a very refreshingly cute local designer co-op boutique. Lots of unique and special items designed by locals! Check out the review on SF Indie Fashion featuring guest designer (me!).

This store had something for everyone. From women & mens clothing, hair and jewelry accessories, bags to baby clothes, and everything was so cute and stylish. It has the quality of the soma, the color of the haight and the love from the city that goes into every item.
I bought a top that was an original piece from the store owner, which I thought was really cool. I still have my eye on some cute feather accessories, and I still want to come back and grab some things for my fiance. Like some great original hats and belts, and a baby outfit for my friends baby!
Gotta check it out, it truly is a gem of the mission. -

The implosion of Porcelynne Desiger Collective brought several of its most talented designers to The Mission Statement. Look for the Culture Consumer label for sexy, handmade screenprints.

How wonderful to find this tiny nifty place full of creative and interesting collections by hip SF designers. I am stoked because I can actually afford to shop here and the people are not stuck up. It feels good to support local designers. Check it out!

This is a great little boutique filled with items from local designers. If you like original pieces and don't want to look like every other girl, you will love this store. The designers themselves all take turns working here so you'll get to meet the wonderful ladies who make all the cool items. There is some great jewelry here with the brand Elixer9 that I particularly loved. There were some absolutely gorgeous dresses by a brand (can't recall the name) that is made by two women together. Even if I don't buy, I love going in here to look at what they have. It's such a fun place!

When you're in the Mission District, grab a burrito and visit this place. My husband, kids, and I love shopping here!!!! Wearing their clothes and accessories always makes me feel so pretty. The men's clothes are hot, women's and kids clothes, make up, jewelry, more. You can get most everything for everyone in one stop. When I shop here, I find it helpful to talk to the people working there. It's a cooperative, so the staff are also the designers. They have great insights on the products they're selling. Everything is original and locally created. We love supporting places like this.

I love this little mecca. It's full of unique, awesome creations, locally designed and crafted, in the shape of clothing, hair accessories, jewelry, handbags, etc. They also sell some very cool makeup and skincare products that are supplied by JuvEssentials, which is right next door.

What an inspiration to have so many beautiful designs collected in one shop. Walking in is a sensual delight. These people are truly artists.
There is something for everyone and everything is HOT: screenprinted tops and sweatshirts, sustainable/recovered fabrics, suits, dresses, mens, accessories (scarves, belts, bags, headbands) and do not miss Vanessa's jewelry. I've scored great clothes from Culture Consumer line, Estrella Tadeo line, and FunkDivine. Great place to develop and get in touch with your style, because each artist contributes such unique and beautiful visions, and you will often get to meet and talk to the artist personally, and they are SO DOWN to Earth. Their prices honor the quality and individuality of the pieces as well. If you are looking for affordable creations that you have actually have a relationship with, if you want to be connected to something bigger than the mass-produced, homogenized clothing system, or if you just want to look HOT, go here! -

I don't like merchandise-store overwhelm and I appreciate original work, so Mission Statement qualifies as my perfect clothing store. Not too big, not too flashy, but filled with choice items from local designers as well as quality used pieces at affordable prices. I found the store by accident when a late bus and rain conspired to give me time and seeking shelter a few steps from MS's door. It didn't look open from the outside, but a push on the door and, voila, a warm room, a friendly not over solicitous staff, and creative takes on skirts, dresses and casual wear. I picked up a perfect gray knit dress and saw some nice satin finish summer frocks for the next visit. ... as well as some nice looking jewelry that I'll need to investigate on a less rushed day.

I always find creative, beautiful and well-made pieces at the Mission Statement and each of the designers that I've met while there are always friendly and helpful. I like to drop by just to see what's new and chat with whoever is working in the store that day.
I always want stuff there, even if I can't always afford it. But when I do buy stuff I feel great knowing that I have something that I love and that was handmade by someone local. Well, I bought a vintage jacket there also and so it wasn't handmade but Estrella did tailor the jacket to fit me beautifully. -

Ok. I'm not a "fashion" guy. I don't pretend to be. But here's my story, because the Mission Statement is just that cool.
Back at Porcelynne, there once was an awesome reconstructed blazer. Oh, how I wanted it, but could not justify the money. Then, in a flash, Porcelynne and my blazer was gone. Alas.
Lo and Behold! I was walking down 19th street, and what did I see in the window? MY blazer! What was it doing here?
Answer: the amazing designer, Estrella Tadeo, had opened up shop at the Mission Statement, and gave me a second chance at glory. There was no other time but then to capitalize.
Estrella was in the store when I walked in, and was happy to do the tailoring on the jacket herself, at a very reasonable cost. Absolutely perfect.
Go here. You'll look pretty. That's all you need to know. -

What a cute little boutique in the Mission! Great selection for men, women and the babies too. I first stopped by in February and was delighted to see the various styles and great deals. Put it on your list of "musts" next time you're in the neighborhood.

The Mission Statement is amazing. The boutique may be quaint in size but amazing in quality. When you walk in, you automatically feel a sense of comfort and the employees make you feel like you're at home. Not only does the boutique's designers create locally, but they do custom work as well...especially well done tailoring. Being a fashion design student, I can tell that the quality of each garment was well thought out and executed. Whenever i'm in the Mission District, I be sure to stop by and see/ shop their latest unique designs. And get this, they even have special events/ sales every month! Check it out for yourself, it's fabulous :)
