Danielle and Barbara were delightful. We went in to browse, and they were more concerned about educating us than whether we purchased something. We must have spent an hour and a half learning about what to look for in a hat.
We have them on our "things we have to do when in the area" list. -

This shop is just about as good as it gets. Gorgeous hats of impeccable quality line the walls of the shop just waiting to be tried on.
Danielle is so knowledgeable and such a treat to do business with, that I almost feel guilty walking out of that store without purchasing anything.
Bottom line: If you want a hat, talk to Danielle. I know I will be buying all of my future hats from her. -

I stumbled in here the other day and the woman working was incredibly nice and helpful. They have a great selection of hats for every occasion. I even picked up some UPF 50 hats for my infant daughter. So glad I stopped in and will be back!

I love Danielle's couture pieces! They are beautiful, unique and very striking. Her creations really compliment the face.
I've been looking thru her pieces, dreaming up the day when I finally have a fancy event to go to (an excuse really) to have one made. If that occasion never arrives, I may just go ahead and get one anyway to wear at the farmers' market. -

Excellent selection of seasonal and year round headwear, from my Kangol Driving hats (theyr'e getting in the water resistant wool ones in any day now!!!) to my dermatologist recommended wide brimmed sun hats and my funky and fashionable straw hats! They carry Kaminski, Dream Control mlitary caps (with bling!!!!!!), Kangol, and couture derby headwear and head pieces. They also have cute seasonal headwear for kids! I might even go back and buy myself one of the larger crocheted bear hat little furry ears, too- u kno I'd totally rock that on the slopes....
If you're not really sure what you want, the staff there are super helpful. They helped fit pieces on me even when I go in there to just try on pieces. Danielle, who is the head milliner at Mill Valley Hat Box, helped fit one of her couture pieces on me and I fell in love. I'm waiting for someone to take me to the races... any takers? Danielle also does custom bridal and couture work for all occasions.Listed in: At least I don't look…

They made me a beautiful hat here - an extraordinary one-of-a-kind for a special occasion - and the cost was reasonable.
They have a large selection of hats off the rack, but they are all pretty traditional and old-school.
I suppose if you want something wild and ultra-contemporary you would shop in the Haight. -

The most darling store in the heart of downtown Mill Valley. They have all sorts of hats albeit they are, on average, a tad expensive.
With wanton disregard for my checkbook balance (and the rent payment) I dared splurge on 2 fantastic hats, one red, one black... I promptly wore one right out of the store and the other one I brought to work today. No less than 10 people have commented on the hats so far. Yes, all nice compliments if you should ask. Although great part of the credit goes to my fantastically shaped nugget. ;-)
The salesgirl was helpful and actually pointed out the black hat to me which I had somehow missed. Gasp, I'm losing my edge!
Now the couture hats are show stoppers in their own right. I wish so badly for an afternoon tea invitation from the Queen so I can have an excuse to rock the one that's covered in peach colored roses.
Jedi wisdom: true works of art these hats are. rock the universe. get one. -

The Mill Valley Hat Box is a great store. The owner, Danielle, is wonderful! If you are in the market for a hat then please support this local business owner!!
I needed 2 hats for the Kentucky Derby (1 for Derby day and 1 for the day before). I had no idea where to begin, so I emailed Danielle, who promptly wrote me back with tons of helpful information. I took my dresses into the hat shop, and she showed me all kinds of hats & ways to alter them so they would complete my outfit. She shared her wisdom & advice, was very patient & kind, kept in contact to let me know how she was progressing on creating my masterpieces, and even met me after hours so I could pick them up. The final hats are gorgeous!
I truly cannot say enough good things about The Mill Valley Hat Box. Thank you, Danielle! -

I love coming to this shop because I always feel welcome and there is an amazing selection of hats to choose from. Danielle, the shop owner is really on the ball and super friendly. I am so glad she carries Kangol Hats because that's pretty much the only brand I wear.

I'm not a hat wearer but I just got a convertible and between how cold it gets & my family telling me I need to cover up to avoid sun damage I needed a hat.
I went in & ended up with 2 hats.
One a Kangol soft cap which even my daughters think is stylish & is very warm for driving around in Northern California.
The 2nd is a wide brimmed hat for wearing in the sun. I was over in Jordan hiking and people were always asking "where did you get that hat?" It was light, stylish (not the wrinkled look!) & kept the sun off. It had every feature (vented, dirt & water resistant, could be rolled up for travel).
Thank you Mill Valley Hat Box!
