What's an antonym for the word "boutique"?

I think if the Midtown Hotel can hold out another 20-30 years, it will qualify for museum status.

I kind of liked staying here. Everything in my room screamed, "Holiday Inn 1986!" The location is good. And at $170 a night during peak convention season, it had the other great benefit, an available room. I just couldn't say no.

It's functional, and just judging from the looks of the rooms, it's as clean as it needs to be.

I stayed one night too long at this hotel. I booked a room here with a friend from out of state. It was for her birthday and we weren't really planning on spending much time in the hotel. Thank God! I felt like I was back in the 70's!  There is nothing fancy in the room but a bed, tv, and a table with a chair. I guess that's all you really need right? Ehhhh...
Midtown Hotel.. you need an upgrade.. desperately!
There are some good things about this hotel. It's in the middle of a great area.. Prudential Mall, Copley Mall, many different restaurants, a few streets away from Newbury Street. The Boston Symphony Orchestra is a few blocks away.

I would suggest this hotel only if you get an awesome deal and don't plan on being in the hotel for more than just sleeping.

FYI: Parking is $18..but still is cheaper than other hotels in the area.

Here goes...

The map didn't lie, I picked up a really affordable room for the week at Expedia...It is walking distance from the Hynes Convention Center...Plenty to eat, plenty of nightlife around, etc...I cant complain about the location at all for my needs.

I arrived at the hotel and received a level of customer service that it is rare to experience in any business, especially in a 2-3 Star Hotel...I haven't heard that many "please & thank yous" from anyone person within a 5 minute period EVER...very polite, service oriented, etc...even offering help with my bags, etc...

And then, the BUT happens...you leave the front desk to go to your room and realize that you need to take the stairs and a trip down the hall to get to the elevator.  Just to clarify, NOT WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE...

I hunt for my room, and without some serious exploring, room 236 isn't easy to find...the sign from the elevator doesn't include 236 in it's directions...WTF

Get to the room after a long day of coast to coast travel...and there's skidmarks in the toilet...Come On!!

I almost got over that as I looked for the TV...why is in not in front of either bed...it was literally on the opposite side of the room -- like you're suppose to watch it from the desk/table.  I'm glad I have 20/15 vision!!

I couldn't stop complaining...especially because it kept getting weirder...I looked at the interior wall (next to the entrance/door) and noticed that there was a pair of open curtains hung there...it would make you curious too I'm sure and then I realized that the curtain is there because this is not a wall, this is a bizzare, translucent window...you could see people's silhouettes pass by...Really, WTF!!??

And why is there no trash can in my room?  Why is there a bar of soap for the sink and not an extra for the shower??  Why is the maid playing games with the towels??

Oh well, at least it doesn't smell like cigarettes...
And like I said, the front desk staff was nice...
And it was walking distance to the Hynes Convention Center...

It's just everything else that sucked!!

The Midtown Hotel is a fantastic find in the city! The building itself is definitely a little worn and dated, but the staff at the front desk and concierge desk were surprisingly cheerful and enthusiastic.

You may easily pass by this hotel without noticing it. It's a low building with parking tucked underneath. I've heard this is some of the cheapest hotel parking in the city at $14/day. (They seemed pretty relaxed about the fee: we stayed a little past checkout time, with their permission, and they didn't charge us an extra day's parking.) The hotel is located in a prime location 1 block from the Symphony Station T stop and a good little breakfast cafe (no food or restaurant at the hotel), the Prudential Center, walking distance to Newbury Street and many other fun downtown attractions.

The room and bathroom were clean and updated and had a view of the Christian Science church and Huntington Ave. We could barely hear the traffic, but the church bells were pleasant in the morning.

One major issue with our room (and others, I assume): because the parking is underneath the rooms, the floor in our room was incredibly cold and thick ice built up on the *inside* of our single-pane window in the morning. The forced air duct near the ceiling couldn't quite get the warm air down to the floor without really cranking it up. In their defense, the temperature that day was 7 degrees, but the newer Hampton-Inn we stayed at the following night had no problems. You get what you pay for.

All in all, I would highly recommend this hotel as an inexpensive way to stay at the heart of the city without sacrificing too much. We booked our room through a travel site that got us our room for about $80/night, but I believe they typically run $120. This was a great find, and we'd stay here again!
