We've been to the Melting Pot a million and one times...always for cheese and chocolate. The whole three course meal is just a bit too much for us, so we just skip the main course and go for the good parts! We always get the cheese offered in the "Big Night Out" just because it's something new and interesting. Too bad they don't keep some of them around longer (there was a Boston lager cheddar that was out of this world!!). As for dessert, we like pretty much all of the offerings and try to pick a new one every time we go. We actually had to stop going there for a while because we were gaining too much weight! The full-service bar is great, and their wine list is varied both in price and type of wine. Their wines-by-the-glass are priced right, and they've got a good selection.
All in all, we love going to the Melting Pot...don't just go for special ocassions!
I'd drive by the place and often wondered what the big deal was all about. I ate here a couple of times and that was more than enough. I love fondue don't get me wrong, the place is dark and romantic but first of all I'm cooking my own food, secondly I walk out of the restaurant stinking like the oil I cooked my food in. Try to kiss your date and he smells like canola oil...not much of a turn on ewwww!!!
I go to a restaurant to be served that's the whole purpose for eating out isn't it? If I want to smell the food when is being cooked I'd rather stay home wearing comfortable clothes I can throw in the hamper once I'm done.
Took my daughter here with her friends for her 13th b'day. For the three kids this was tons of fun. I was more concerned with the fact that things did not look very clean and sanitary.
If you are concerned about your health, then you will have to choose what you order very carefully, as there are a lot of fried, greasy items on the menu. I thought the desserts were a lot better than the actual food, but that's just me.
I had been here about twenty years earlier, and at the time this was a very elegant and pristine restaurant. Like many other things, this place has lost it's sparkle and glow, however, for an enjoyable time never mind the small details, this place can't be beat. On thing's for sure: pricey, pricey!
I used to thoroughly enjoy this place, going for apps and dessert, though skipping the entrees.
When I go to a restaurant where everything is cooked in volanically bubbling sauces and you're still not sure it's sanitary, that's a big worry. What are they spending their money on? I cook my own food! Clean the place up with a giant scrub and chlorine please.
The only reason i'm giving this place 2 stars is because where else can you go for fondue? This place is dark, romantic, and different....
However, the thought that i'm cooking my raw meat in oil/broth that has been previously used by the table prior to me is plain disgusting. I will rather buy myself a fondue set and make it a dinner party! :)
I honestly love this restaurant, but the only reason i'm giving it a four is because anyone planning on eating a full dinner here, prepare to spend about 3 1/2 hours here. I was a little mislead and didn't think makeing fondue would take as long as it did and left upset that i wasnt forewarned by the staff. If you plan on catching a movie after dinner, then cancel because plan on spending the rest of the night here. I thought this wasn't normal after eating here the first time, but i've been back about four or five times since and its been the never-ending story with them. Another downer to this place, besides the fact that your butt goes numb from sitting for so long, is that you tend to leave this joint smelling like an old cuban lady who spent all day frying tostones. Not great smell, especially after the smell lingers in your clothes and your hair.
On the food though, it's really yummy. I love the cheese fondue (all of them are great) and the main entrees are all delicious as well. The best part is dessert. I love the ore cookie fondue as well as the smores fondue. Alot of people usually come here just for dessert, i think im going to do this in the future too cuz it's really what i look forward to the most here.
The Melting Pot is my favorite restaurant of all time. I hardly go though because it can be pricey when I figure in all my favorites... I'm not the type who can go "just for the cheese fondue" or "just for the dessert". I'm all or nothing!
Firstly, I don't really know what kirshwasser is (brandy?) but it makes cheese fondue magic! They mix it up at your table in no time flat and then give you piles of bread to dip in it. (read: piles of bread to fill up on!)... the salad is divine - I only ever get the chef salad with the house dressing which is sweet and delicious and you can even get it to go! I know they have other salads but I dare not veer from my favorite!
I'm partial to the traditional (oil) fondue cooking style but admittedly have never tried the "court bullion" style (broth). For one, in the broth cooking there are no fried mushrooms stuffed with the aptly named "green goddess"! I guess that makes sense since to be fried you'd need oil - duh!
I love all the meats/things that get cooked and I tend to cook most everything and then eat (as opposed to cook/eat/cook/eat)... my favorite are the steaks (of course) and the teriyaki sauce. I know a lot of people don't like fondue because you have to "cook it yourself" but that's half the fun!!
They usually have a fancy special that has a theme but I hardly get anything but the old standards - I can't imagine Mexican themed fondue (yet I've seen it there)...
Finally, the chocolate! I'm not a huge fan of milk or dark chocolate and I also know that calling white chocolate "chocolate" is blasphemy to some, but something about the white chocolate fondue at The Melting Pot is irresistible! By this point of course I can barely stand another bite and manage just the bananas and the marshmallows with the peanuts stuck to them... divine...
One last thing - they have a full bar and the last time I ordered a mojito there it was hands down the best mojito ever. Luckily it wasn't on my dime so I had like 3 - wow! I'm not a mojito connoisseur by any stretch but sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night thinking about a mojito from The Melting Pot!
Cheesetastic, but yummy!!!
Although there are many restaurants in Miami and many more "upscale" places to dine, Melting Pot is my shameful secret love.
I never met a pot of hot cheese I didn't like.
When we go, we usually get the cheddar cheese starter, which is a blend of cheddar and swiss emmanthaler cheeses. They add garlic, dried mustard and worcestershire sauce to give it a bit of a "kick".
We then have the salad, I usually have the california salad that has mixed greens, walnuts, and gorgonzola cheese. The raspberry vinaigrette dressing is amazing too.
We then have the Pacific Rim which is a bit of surf and turf, and although we used to cook in oil, we realized that you come out of there reeking to high heaven if you do. We switched to the coq au vin and the food cooks just as well, albeit it does take a few minutes longer.
The only dessert I've had is the yin and yang which is a dark (or milk) and white chocolate swirled together in the pot. They give you a yummy variety of marshmallows, fruits, cake and brownies to dip it in. Again, I love chocolate as much as I love cheese so this to me is a win-win. Although I love this place, I did remove one star b/c although we ALWAYS have reservations when we go, we have always had to wait to be seated, sometimes almost half an hour. We do order drinks at the bar, but I feel that having a reservation we should be seated promptly. However, the management has always comped us a dessert or drink for long waits, so that makes up for it a bit.
BEWARE: if you are on a diet, do NOT go here!!! :)
I love this place, hands down !! From the moment we arrive, we love to sit at the bar and have a drink or two while we gleefully wait for our table.
It is just a great experience overall, not to mention the food is glorious. There is a lot to be said about interactive dining. You make it to your liking and enjoy the whole process, it is fun, and delicious.
It definitely deserves a try because you will be hooked !!! See you around...
To me this is one of the best restaurants in Miami. For many reasons... but pretty much I have to say sometimes I only go here for the bread and cheese and the dessert of course oh yeas and the Oreo cookie shake they have which is to die for. This is also a great restaurant if you want a nice romantic night with your special someone, a restaurant where you can have a calm and relaxing conversation.
Also, the main reason for my review is to let you Melting Pot fans and first timers as well, to check out the website and sign up to club fondue and you will get a free chocolate fondue for two, not bad eh. We need to take advantage of all the free stuff out there. Enjoy.
I love this restaurant although it gets too expensive if you go with groups and if you order the dinner and the dessert. Just order the dessert because the dinner is a waste of money. My dad had to pay $200 when we went with 7 people total. I have been wanting to take my bf here for the dessert part. It's great for birthdays and anniversary's.
l cannot believe that l had not reviewed one of my absolute favorite restaurants yet!!!!
Ok, so here is the deal. 3 family birthdays, and two anniversaries. Goes to show you that special times are totally spent here. Personally l adore the fondue in broth instead of oil, the added plus is that it makes the evening go by slower, and if you are there for a celebration you are in for a good time.
The choices are endless so it doesnt matter what you like, dont like or don't want. You can have anything. The desserts are nothing short of spectacular.
Of course l have had my fair share of cocktails there. The Cosmos are to die for.
Honestly - the dinner is interactive so being there on a date, with a group of friends or even co-workers its one of the best places to go.
at first i was hesitant but my sister insisted i give the place a try. it really was something new and and experience. I really enjoyed the place. On a saturday night we ended up having to get a reservation because it was busy. other than waiting a bit the experience was a delight. The food was delicious and the desert was amazing. left the restaurant full and happy that i tried something new! :) Be expected to pay 40-50 bucks a person but honestly if you are going to try something new with a group of friends or a date its worth it. cute for a date night or first time date. Also for a group of friends to get together.get enough food and think of it as being interactive with the food you eat! :)
Food on a stick-- I love food on a stick.
And the ability to dip? Even better.
My cousin took me here-- my first time ever and I loved it. The whole concept of it is just.. FUN! Poking at food, dipping it in cheese or sauces... yum.
We started off with a spinach cheese fondue (I can't exactly recall what the name of it was)-- but it was good. The server put out a pot to warm up while she gathered the ingredients: shredded cheese, spinach, some minced garlic and a few other things, then melted and mixed it all together right in front of us. We got to dip some tortilla chips, different chunks of breads, apples and veggies.
Next up was our entrees-- they usually try to sell you on their "Big Night Out" menu combo which includes basically everything, but we feared we wouldn't be able to finish everything so we stuck to our own plates. I ordered The French Quarter (Andouille sausage, shrimp, choice tenderloin, and boneless breast of chicken, rolled in a Cajun spice blend. Sauces: Gorgonzola Port, Lemon Pepper) and my cousin got The Seafood Trio ( Shrimp, scallops, and fresh fish fillet.
Sauces: Garlic Dijon Butter, Spicy Cocktail, Lemon Pepper). We ended up picking from each other's plate-- so we sorta made out like we ordered the Big Night Out thingy.
Here's the deal-- you pick a 'cooking style' from the three they offer (we chose the most popular: "Coq AU Vin"), they warm up the pot, set up the broth or whatever it is so its piping hot, then you poke your choice of food, let it sit in the pot for about 2 minutes, then plop it on your neatly sectioned out plate.
What comes in handy is that each person has a set of forks, that have colored handles so when you're all dipping into the pot, you can tell which is yours.
From what our awesome server said-- there are no chefs there, just the people who cut up the food and the people who serve it. So it's only as good as you let it be! I really enjoyed this place.
DESSERT! I didn't have any! I was so stuffed from our appetizer of cheese fondue and our entrees, that I just couldn't manage it. But if I ever go again (I hear there's one in NJ), I'll make sure to save room for it. Afterall, I heard it was the best part of being there!
Too romantically lit for a dinner with a cousin, but I imagine this would be a great date spot. So maybe I'll take someone special when I go back for dessert!
I hesitated briefly before giving this restaurant 5 stars only because the price is higher than one might imagine is reasonable for fondue, but in reality, it deserves all 5. Everything i've ever had here created an immediate and massive food coma. The cuisine is impeccable. They've got a formulaic way of delivering a unique dining experience that everyone should have at least once in lifetime. It's one of my fave places for dates, as well. The chocolate/marshmallow fondue is the best. GO. Just go.
If you are willing to spend some money, this is the perfect spot. I've gone three times and I absolutely love it! Some people say that they wouldnt want to spend so much money to have to cook my own food, I used to be one of those people... My boyfriend took me for Valentines last year and I loved it! Guys, if you're are trying to impress a girl you like... take her here! Its a really nice place to just sit and kind of get to know each other and still have a good time. When I went, we got the special called "Big Night Out." Its cheaper than if you order everything separate. It includes a cheese fondue of your choice, an entree fondue, and the best part of The Melting Pot, the DESSERT FONDUE! Take my advice, order the Ying Yang. Its a Chocolate and White chocolate Fondue, needless to say, it's DELICIOUS. The Banana Fosters is also very good. You can also go to have just dessert. Also if you go for a special occasion, for birthdays, you pay a little extra and the take a picture of you and your party, bring you baloons and a cake. I think they also do something similar for anniversaries too but i'm not positive. I strongly suggest you save some money and go to The Melting Pot. you won't regret it!!!
This restaurant is great! Everyhing is fondue...yummy! I had such a great time, and the food is good. The only regret I had was that I decided to boil my meat instead of frying it ( I wanted to be healthy)..BIG MISTAKE! I shouldve just fried it, my friends fried theirs and it just tasted so much better. Be prepared to spend minimum between $40 and $50+ per person.
The perfect place to go for a romantic evening or any special occasion. Complete dinner combinations are available starting with a cheese fondue appetizer and choice of salad. Various types of beef, chicken and/or seafood comprise the main course. And of course your choice of chocolate fondue is served for dessert. A fantastic dining experience.
