I've only been for their happy hour, but there's really no reason NOT to go for their happy hour. Everything was delicious and very reasonably priced for a party of four. And the service was great. It's a fantastic place to take out-of-towners when you're hanging out in Boulder.
Must try the bacon-wrapped dates.
The Med is the place to go for happy hour, a nice lunch and an okay dinner. There is a certain hype around this place which I do not understand. Boulder has many a fine dining spot and this is one establishment which falls one grade below.
That said, their happy hour is affordable and their central location makes it a convenient stop for downtown workers. Their pizza margherita is light. Reasonable drink prices. Keep in mind though, you're getting what you pay for, their house wines are *ick*.
Avoid the seafood here! The calamari are overly breaded and drizzled w/a heavy, unappetizing sauce. The mussels are terrible! I know we're landlocked but c'mon! Augh. They drown their miniscule mussels in their overly seasoned sauce (your choice between two, garlic or tomato (?) base).
To end on the up and up, I have always had stellar waiters. Very friendly and accommodating. A local tidbit: if you park in the lot under the St. Julien, you can get your parking ticket validated at the Med. Not having to circle downtown Boulder in search of parking? That's enough reason to try the Med at least once.
I could probably write quite a bit about this place. The food is amazing good. It's always packed and loud which I've said in other reviews is not my favorite atmosphere but this place is well worth that. They carry Hangar One vodkas which I love and the Limeade cocktail is TOO good (had at least 4 on my birthday - oops) and I can't think of a single item I tried there that I didn't love but I'm going to narrow it down to one single thing...
The thai curry hummus...seriously - I'm a hummus lover and I've tried dozens but I could order a BUCKET of this stuff and never get tired of it. Ever.
I went to The Med on a one day visit to Boulder. It was great. The food was terrific, the service was present but not overwhelming and the wait was perfect. We let our server know that we needed to get our food in a hurry and it came in record time. The portions were wonderful. I can't say enough great things about The Med and I hope to visit again real soon.
I really have grown to love the Med.
Right downtown, a great back patio, very friendly staff and tapas to make everyone in your party happy.
Happy hour is quite good too!
I went to this restaurant for the first time last week to celebrate a friend's birthday and I have to say that I was very impressed with our service, start to finish. First of all, when I made the reservation on short notice, the gentleman who answered the phone was very friendly and accomodating. Our server was just on top of her game the entire time we were there and went above and beyond to make us happy. She gave us reminders the closer we came to happy hour coming to an end, which we very much appreciated. The food was tasty and the atmosphere was great. I will definitely return to this restaurant!
To me, The Med is not bad, but it's never been outstanding. It's a staple for me when I'm working in Boulder. I know that when I'm craving pasta because I haven't made my signature spaghetti & meatballs in awhile, I can always hit The Med for a tasty Pasta Bolognese. Sometimes it's stellar, sometimes it's terrible, most times it's just average...but it always kills my crave.
Happy hour is very good - cheap tapas and cheap beers, if you can get a seat - and the bartenders are always cordial (I like to eat lunch at the bar when I don't do takeout). Pizza is average. Also, I just discovered the chicken wings tapa - not a typical hotwing that you get in the States, but a chile infused olive oil sauce with onions and garlic. Tasty.
I had not been here for years. Oh how I missed the Med. The bread. The balsamic. The olive oil....Mmm. We sat inside near the beautiful glass windows, and I loved the way the sun sparkled against the glistening water glass that was always topped off as soon as I took a sip. I always feel like I am literally in the Mediterranean when I go here. The architecture of the restaurant makes you feel like you are right off of the beach.
For starters, our server was a total babe. I may have been in male company, but he was gorgeous. He was nice and directed me to the bathroom before I even knew he was our server. This beautiful piece of man candy was a total gem of a server. Polite. Fast. Attentive. He had me at hello, or rather topping off my water. He even told us the specials, and explained how things would taste.
I got the Seafood Paella. I always get it no matter what. It has the cutest little squid in it. Calamari. Mussels. Clams. Shrimp. Salmon, and some other random fish. It is delicious. In true Paella fare, it literally feels like leftovers from a Spaniard's fish market. It tastes fresh every time. The saffron rice is to die for. The lemons they give you to add more zest only add to the orgasmic nature. The clams and mussels taste so fresh, you can almost extract the taste of the sea in the first bite. I honestly don't mind that Colorado is a land locked state when I have dishes this genuine and fresh. The seafood would fool anyone into thinking it was local.
For starters, this place is absolutely gorgeous. I really like the interior feel and the busy vibe. However, I felt that the staff here had too much on their plate. Our waitress was pleasant, however no where near as great as last night (we had a cute blond at 4580), and seemed really stressed out. The food was overpriced - but it was very good. The tapas portions could be much bigger for the price.
Overall it was an eh experience. No where near as exciting or intimate as last night ( we are major 4580 fans now!). Not on the top of my list this vacation!
I had heard good things about The Med, so on Saturday night, my husband and I decided to try it for dinner. Wow, we are glad we did because we had an excellent meal.
The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating, but after a full day of being outdoors, we decided to sit inside. Our waiter, Spencer, was awesome. Even though he was super busy because he got triple sat, he was extremely attentive and made really good recommendations.
We started with three tapas dishes as an appetizer - the caprese salad, fried calamari, and the gambas. My husband liked the gambas, and I thought the caprese salad was so fresh. We had to fight each other for the fried calamari because it was delicious. It was probably the best fried calamari we have had in awhile.
For dinner, I had the scallops with risotto - the scallops were just a touch on the salty side, but not bad enough that it made your face pucker or prevent you from eating them. Other than being a touch too salty, they were cooked perfectly and had that melt in your mouth quality that signifies good scallops. Again, I had to fight my husband for them because he kept trying to sneak bites of my food. He had the ono fish special which he enjoyed. For dessert, we shared a slice of cheesecake which was super creamy and delicious. To drink, I had one of the Spanish wines they were featuring, which appeared quite popular as four of the tables around us were drinking it as well.
Not only was our meal absolutely delicious, but the prices were really moderate. For three tapas dishes, 2 entrees, 1 dessert, 2 beers, and 2 glasses of wine, our bill came to $106 after tip. I would definitely go back to The Med next time I was in Boulder.
For the food and atmosphere, this is one of the best overall restaurants in Boulder.
It has a huge menu of Mediterranean meals of good portions and prices. My favorite is the gnocchi.
If you're looking for a noisy, active and happening place -- this is the place. I
f you're looking for a more upscale and quiet place, try Alba for good Italian food in Boulder.
Excellent high end Mediterranean food! My husband and I went during happy hour one afternoon and shared about 15 different tapas plates. The happy hour prices are great, we walked out spending only about $40 after drinks and tip. Can't beat the variety for the price, and we were stuffed! Their bacon-wrapped dates were delicious to the point where I have tried to replicate them at home but never come close. Their tahini is wonderful, has a great lemon and garlic flavor.
Two thinks irked me during our visit, and they are actually big things that took this down from five stars to four:
We requested no dairy products on anything, but the skewers came out with tzatziki sauce. We had to argue with the kitchen, indirectly via the waiter, that yogurt actually does have dairy in it.
They don't have a hummus that's just hummus-flavored. They have red pepper (?), black bean (??), and Thai curry (?!?!?). Why they fail to have regular hummus is completely beyond me.
Had dinner here after the Boulder Creek festival... Which is probably why my viewpoint is that this is a mediocre place. Possibly too much traffic for their staff to handle.
Don't get me wrong, they do a decent job but I've had far better examples of what the produce in many different restaurants. I'd compare what they produced with that of a TGI Fridays or other similar chain restaurant.
I travel quite a bit and have the opportunity to try a lot of different places. This is clearly a restaurant that has been given good press coverage as a singles place and it's clientele certainly represents the damage the wrong press can do to a business.
The Tapas were... OK.. Bacon Wrapped Dates? Is this a poor man's version of Panceta wrapped dates stuffed with Gorganzolla?
The Prosciutto wrapped melon? I've always seen this with Honeydew not Cantaloupe. That being said, the Canteloupe was not quite yet ripe.
Entrees were more of the same.... Standard, uninspired fare produced my mediocre kitchen staff.
Bottom line? I don't like going to a restaurant where you can produce a much better version of the dish at home. My only hope is that the restaurant does not bill their line cook as a chef.
After dinner walked across the street and looked at the menu for the Brassier Ten Ten. I think I had buyers remorse as for the money we spent, we could have had a far better experience across the street.
The "Med" has a large layout and is good for groups. The staff is friendly and efficient and easily accommodated our big group, allowing us to move inside out of the rain.
There is an amazing happy hour menu, that you just check off on the piece of paper. The prices were very low, but the food quality was excellent.
You should definitely visit again and again as I will as I hear the food is consistently good.
I personally think that Boulder has some better, higher end restaurants that are better for a special dinner but if your looking for a place to meet friends or family, The Med is the BEST place to meet up in Boulder. The tapas are fantastic, simple, yet quality. Literally, every single on of them are delicious. I love ordering from the tapas menu because you can try some many different things, there is something for everyone and they have daily tapas specials. Variety is always a crowd pleaser. The roasted garlic, skirt steak, bacon wrapped dates and roasted almonds are some of the best. I've been to the Med MANY times over the years (I'm from Boulder, so my family has been going here for over 10 years) but I have never ordered an entree. Surely they are probably good but I think the pizzas and tapas are the way to go. The wine list is also impressive and it won't break the bank if you go during happy hour. If your coming for happy hour, get there early because it will surly be packed. The courtyard in the spring is also fantastic, the service, location and staff are great as well.
Damn tasty! I went here last Saturday with a friend and after three Ketel sodas on the patio beneath the shady trees, I wasn't ready to leave.
We tried a few different tapas to start - my favorite was definetly the hangar steak followed by the baked feta one. The flatbread toast that accompanies it is so damn good.I had the chicken and proscuitto wrap which was pretty outstanding. The flatbread wrap, again, makes the sandwhich.
Overall, great day with a friend - really looking forward to coming back here for a romantic evening under the stringed-lights on the patio.
I was visiting Boulder and walked for a very long time looking for Leaf Restaurant to no avail. When I finally stumbled upon this place I took a look at their menu and decided it looked pretty good. I sat at the bar which was very cozy aside from the hordes of people waiting for tables and digging their elbows into my sides and the 500 db announcements for "Mr Schmoe, Party of 4", but this goes with the convenience of free seating at the bar.
The menu and wine list were great. Diverse and delightful. Nothing was any less than it should be in a place like this. The prices were right and the variety was enough to keep you looking.
I ended up having 5 tapas, a glass of wine and two delicious local beers, as suggested by my friendly bartender. The food was good but not the best. Nothing I ordered was sub-par but the presentation on most dishes was nothing to write home about. The flavors on the other hand ranged from good to incredible. I absolutely loved the lamb meatballs and the smoked trout, both of which lacked endlessly on presentation.
Overall, I was not let down. The prices were right, the food was good and the atmosphere was nice. If I am ever walking around Boulder cold and hungry again, I will be sure to find this gem and be warm and satiated.
I'm very sorry Med, but after two less then acceptable experiences in a row I'm dropping my star rating on you. Many people will still love the place, but for me the staff, NOT including waiters, is just not what it should be and the place is just way to noisy. I'm not sure if there is any sound absorption at all in this place. I am sad about this because the food has always been great. Just because you have plenty of business doesn't mean that you can treat your customers like they are cattle or be rude to them.
Again, this has nothing to do with the food as it has always been excellent.
Your off my short list. To many other places to go...

I've had good and bad experiences here that range from a super tasty lunch on the wonderful patio… Read more »
I don't get here that often, but every time I've received good service and the food quality is outstanding. Prices are reasonable. It can be overrun with guests in the early evenings - but at lunch there's never been a wait.
Wow on the selection!!!
I was able to dine her this past Saturday and I must say I liked this place very much. Tapas selection was excellent and very filling.
I can see why people come here and why the wait was so long.
We ordered a couple tapas: standouts were the mushrooms (had some fancy name) those were excellent as well as the lamb meatballs, roasted garlic was dynamite!
In addition to tapas I also tried the seafood paella which i enjoyed very much!!
I would def. recommend this place if you are in Boulder. It's not cheap but a nice place to eat. If I went to CU and my parents were in town; i'd take them here.
Again the menu was big; lots of stuff on there which would make you keep coming back to try more!
I LOVE the Med! I'm pretty stingy on the 5-star rating, but if there were half points, I'd definitely give an extra to my 4-star rating. I came for happy hour with a group of 5 other friends, and we had no wait at all. We got a lovely table outside, which is the best part of the Med. You feel like you're in a different country. It SO doesn't feel like you're in Boulder!
We ordered a bunch of Tapas and drinks. I stuck with the Sangria Blanco, which was divine! I think I enjoyed the roasted mushrooms, fried artichoke hearts, and the grilled skewers of lamb, cofee-cayenne-spiced chicken, and Moroccan spiced shrimp.
It's a wonderful place for a group of people, and it's such a lovely environment. I can't wait to go back there when I'm back in Boulder!
Hands down one of the iconic places to go in Boulder. I've been a regular for over 10 years and NEVER had a bad meal there.
Food appeals to a wide variety of people with dietary needs, including a huge gluten free list of menu choices. (For my diabetic friends, not me). Feel like oven fired pizza, they have it. Looking for great crusted tuna, you can't go wrong. Just want to do cocktails and tapas, The Meds your place.
Great atmosphere, very energetic, full bar, HUGE menu selection and great wait staff.
If you're going to be in Boulder or are new to the area, The Med should be on your list. It's our "GOTO" place when we can't decide.
I love the pizza at this place. Extremely good food. Great patio.
We arrived at 7:30 and the large venue is packed inside and outdoors as well. The first thing you will notice at Med is the male/ female ratio. I'm not kidding, 80% hot young women in sexy summer dresses. I'm talking 12 tops, six tops and the occasional four top with one awkward guy as a side kick. Wow! My boyfriend and I were amazed without any jealousy, just an appreciation for beautiful people. We assumed this would be the natural place for single men to go.
Once seated we were brought a fantastic basket of bread which married deliciously with the caprese. Flavorful tomato, fresh basil and mozzarella. We had E.V.O.O and balsamic on the table.
Their menu was lengthy and intriguing. We decided on some bargain priced tapas. The chicken skewers were very good; served with pita and tzsiki sauce. We also indulged on spinach and feta sopatillas. They were flavorful and not greasy, although deep-fried (Also served with the Greek sauce). Our Margherita pizza arrived fresh out of the brick oven. The crust was light and perfectly crisp on the outside. Next time I would ask for more basil, fresh tomato, or sauce.
Tables are within close proximity to one another with the constant bustling of service. It was difficult not to notice the two top beside us. He looked as though he were just mauled by a cougar. His faded button down shirt was perhaps ten years old and questionably thrown into the dryer. He had the personality of a plant and still managed to have dinner with a total hottie in a backless black dress. Times must be tough. This is highly recommended for single men. They also have a decent beer selection. We will return.
Sunday I was charged with the task of finding a place for us to eat lunch in Boulder. Since I do not live in or even frequent Boulder I turned to, what else....Yelp. I thought that Brasserie Ten Ten seemed like a place that had a pretty expansive menu and reasonable prices. Side note: I kept on telling my family that I wasn't sure about the restaurant location, busyness or quality since I don't know much about Boulder.
We arrive and there is a 45 minute to an hour wait. Everyone was pretty hungry and didn't want to wait. My brother spotted a Mediterranean place across the street. Ah...The Med....one of the few places in Boulder I have actually heard of. I had no idea that it was such a nice place though. They were able to seat us instantly, perfect for a group of 8 including my 81 year old grandmother who didn't want to stand around waiting.
We were seated in a side atrium area that had a wonderful view of the sky and the changing weather. We were the only group in this corner for most of our meal and it was very quiet.
Solomillo, a Catalan steak salad with grilled steak, romaine hearts, Prosciutto di Parma, gorgonzola, Mediterranean olives, red wine roasted beets, cherry tomatoes, roasted peppers & balsamic vinaigrette. I substituted feta for the gorgonzola because I don't like the taste of mold and it was an amazing salad. It was more of an antipasto salad plate than a mixed up salad. I would go back just for this salad.
I can't remember exactly what the rest of the group had but some had tapas, some had entrees. Everyone really liked their meals though, and that is all that matters. Plus, how can you go wrong with two tapas for around $4-5 each? Very reasonable for such a nice place.
Most of us were too stuffed for dessert but a few shared the creme brulee and the flourless chocolate cake with baileys ice cream. They were both delicious, but I only had a bite because I was happily satiated by my salad.
Our server was very attentive and never let our water glasses go empty. Now that I know where this place is I will definitely make it up to Boulder more often.
As for Brasserie Ten Ten, they are still bookmarked under To Try.
Surprised to find that the Med is still a happenin' spot. So happenin' that they need a PA system to manage the incredibly long wait-times to be seated. We came for happy hour and missed it because the wait was 45 minutes. In general, it's crowded and noisy. The menu is GIGANTIC and kind of overwhelming. Our server was overly attentive and in our face the whole time- I think because they were trying to turn the tables quickly.
Luckily, the food is delicious.
First off, the second reviewer Paul R. doesn't know sh*t. Because this place is the sh*t. I'll admit, it's horrendously busy during happy hour. That's why you gotta get in around 4:30 and beat the rush.
Happy hour is the highlight of this restaurant. Tapas are half off and you can get an amazing meal for less than $10. Occasionally, the quality of food suffers a bit during happy hour.
By and large, this is one of my favorite restaurants in the Denver/Boulder area and some of the best Mediterranean food around.
The Med had excellent tapas. There were 4 of us who shared 12 different tapas from the happy hour menu! This was hands down one of the BEST values anywhere. The house white wine was wonderful, the food was filling, service was excellent, and the price was quite tough to beat! The Spanish cheese, roasted garlic mushrooms, and feta were quite extraordinary. I would highly recommend this place and we will definitely be coming back soon.
My second favorite restaurant in Boulder!! I love to come here and have lunch or dinner whenever I'm in town.. The service is just great, great variety of Mediterranean food and delicious desserts...
If you are hungry early in the evening, definitely go for they Tapas Happy Hour when you will definitely get a great deal for your food!!!
It gets really busy, so plan ahead or I would recommend making a reservation..
The Med is proof that the food gods want us to be happy. The list of tapas is endless and they are guaranteed to be delicious. There are a lot of vegetarian options (Boulderites would have it no other way), but the meat and seafood is where it's at. My mouth is watering at the thought of their mussels, chicken piccata, fresh focaccia, crispy calamari, seasonal paella, and wood-fired pizzas.... Shit, I'm hungry.
Great patio for warm days and nights. This is a "must-visit" whenever I travel back to Boulder. Their happy hour is also noteworthy.
Showed up during prime dinner hours lat night and it was pretty crowded. They told us 35-40 minutes for the wait but then they saw my friend's adorable baby and were were seated ASAP. So if you don't have an adorable baby with you, be prepared to wait.
It's a loud restaurant, but that was totally OK - I like that...people were having a good time. Was def child friendly.
Menu - just like at Rioja, I was fooled. By Mediterranean this place means "food hailing from countries located on the Mediterranean"; my mind naturally translates Mediterranean as Greek. So not hummus paradise (a little sad) but a ton of options (possibly too many to choose from...I had to go into analysis mode).
Bacon wrapped figs off of the tapas menu were sweet, savory and fabulous. This is my new favorite thing and I will be on the lookout for it everywhere. And the buttery garlic sauce is was presented in coupled as a fabulous dip for bread. I went to town.
Dinners were really tasty and I think everyone was happy, but nothing was really mind blowing (except the dates). I think they are used to turning tables pretty fast here. Felt kind of rushed once our meals were served, waitress even cleared my husband's plate before he was finished (he was looking the other way, it was a sneak attack).
Liked this place, but didn't love this place. I could see Happy Hour being amazing with the sweet tapas menu.
Oh Med, even through your crowdedness and fight for seats at the bar tables on the weekends, I do love thee.
They have been consistently good since I first started going there in College. Great tapas. I love their mussels, and they bring you enough bread to soak up the sauce. Their hummus (I prefer Thai curry and honey) bacon wrapped dates, skewered lamb and milk roasted garlic are just some of the amazing tapas at this place. Their pizzas are thin and never greasy, and I have never had a bad entree or had order envy.
However, you WILL wait for a table (no reservations under 8?) and it is LOUD. But these are the issues of dining at one of Boulder's best restaurants. I keep going back. I heard they are expanding and adding a bunch more tables. I am hopeful that the food will still be consistently good with the more tables that the kitchen has to deal with.
Come with a group of 4+ and don't bother with anything other than the tapas. The Med is a favorite Boulder option when you are with a bunch of friends and want to have drinks, be loud, and have good food. Order a bunch of tapas and they'll go a long way. You won't mind the noise if you're part of making it.
I've eaten here a couple times now and I think The Med is great for several things.
1. Great place to go with a group. With Tapas you're already going to get variety, multiply that by the number of friends you go with. Dinner could consist of 1-2 bites of 35 different dishes!
2. Believe it or not, my kids behave well in restaurants, the nicer the restaurant the better they behave. There's some sort of inverse correlation;
*Chili's="Don't play with that." "Get your hands out of your glass."
*Waldorf Astoria in NYC="Young lady, would you care for any more orange juice?" "No, I'm quite alright, thank you. Could I have a bit more maple syrup please?"
3. The food has consistently varied from good to excellent. Don't pass on the roasted garlic. Like buttah.
4. Same with the service.
5. The atmosphere is warm and inviting with a Mediterranean theme, as you might expect.
My colleagues and I went here for a business dinner. We had thankfully booked a table as there was a line out the door waiting for tables.
We started with a few Tapas dishes, from memory...
Lamb Meatballs - Awesome
Empanada 'things' - cream cheese and spinach yumminess
Mussels both spicy tomato and white wine and garlic - very nice, too much broth
Hanger Steak and Shrimp skewers - Oh Yeah!
Bacon wrapped dates - Unbefrikkinleivable. The old tenet runs true, add bacon to anything and you have a winner, but this is just truly delicious.
We had others, as we all selected a couple each :), but there was adult beverages involved and buggered if I can remember.
I also had the seafood Paella, it was a little dry and came with a chicken wing it...wtf mate?!?! Not my expectation of Paella.
Overall, it was a great group experience and i will go back. I will just avoid the Paella.
This is one of the most consistently satisfying eateries in Boulder. Nearly every time I dine there with friends or my wife the scene is happening, the variety of delicious tapas is supreme and the staff are very attentive.
Favorites include the mussels (of course), the carpaccio and the scallops. I have never been disappointed with any of these which says alot for consistency.
Overall for a casual dining experience in a hip place, the Med is great.
I recently went here for Happy Hour with a group, and didn't want to leave! We ordered food three different times, because we couldn't get enough.
Their Happy Hour beer and wine selection is fantastic, as is their food.
Polenta with honey and Gorgonzola was so amazing we ordered two more! The shrimp dishes are a great deal, as is the pizza.
The atmosphere is convivial and the service was excellent. Our waiter even gave us tips on where to continue our happy hour frivolity after we left The Med.
I can't wait to return.
The first time I went to the Med I had a horrible experience. Bad service, noisy obnoxious people eating nearby, and -- I still shudder to think about it -- I had ordered the paella which just didn't taste so great and then I saw that one of my shrimp was gray. Gross uncooked gray. It really turned my stomach and I couldn't eat the rest of it. I actually don't think that I have eaten paella since that fateful night.
It was shocking to me because so many people had praised the Med as their FavoriteRestaurantinBoulderOMG. But it was just bad.
Anyway, the reason it gets three stars is because I have been back for a couple happy hours, and all of the tapas that I've ordered have been just fine. Some good, some very good. I sure as heck wouldn't get seafood there again.
I'd only consider going to the Med for Happy Hour, anymore... and only in the warm months when I can sit outside on the patio... and only if I can get there before 4:30pm when I can hope to get a seat without waiting an hour (and often narrowly missing Happy Hour.)
If you go, get the lamb kebobs and the shrimp croquettes.
The food here is amazing. I was visiting a friend in Denver and she brought me to Boulder for a day trip and we stop here for lunch. We shared a pizza and the seafood paella and both were excellent. Everything was cooked to perfection. I need to take another trip to Colorado just to come back and eat at this place. Yummy!
