all you need to know is they have clinics for their experienced students. a few times a week in the low season (right now, MWF), more during the winter when more students are at the right level (12 per week).
the guy at the desk used to be an actor in LA and NY and he's hilarious btw.
In short, I was blown away. for $30 for an hour, this is a steal.

I attended this school to learn Lomi- Lomi massage, it was great then and it's still great now. If ever you are on Maui, this is the place to go for a weekly massage all the time you are there. The students public massage sessions are now $30, and worth the equivalent of $100 at many of the hotel spas. The thing is with massage, if you have a fantastic therapist, you can close your eyes and be taken anywhere! The school in Makawao is most def worth many visits!
....and as an added bonus, the massage spot in the photo is the best. If your massage starts in daylight, you have a terrific view of both sides of the island, and when you rise from the table in the evening the harbor lights light up the view, heaven on earth.
One of the hidden gems of 'up-country' Maui. The Maui School of Therapeutic Massage holds Public Clinics where the students at the clinical stage of their training will give you a 1-hour message for $25 !! And they're great !!
The big hotels will charge 3 or 4 times that much! I always tip the student massuse well and they are very appreciative.
Call ahead and make your reservation when you get to Maui because they book up fast. The locals know a good thing when they see it.
Then drive up to Makawao, do some shopping - and if you've planned it right, have lunch, then go get your massage. You'll be in paradise ... well, in paradise !!

1 hour massages for $25? That is right and these are among the best I have ever had.
It's a no nonsense place...the tables are divided with hospital-style curtains, no fancy spa atmosphere. But it's generally quiet and I have yet to have one of the clinical-level students do a bad job. The teacher may come in to check on you but other than that it's pure bliss to get a massage at such a cheap price.
Plus Makawao is such a great town. A treat to come upcountry for a West-sider like me!
Definitely book ahead as their hours are unusual and they fill up fast. Also check out the special Kamaina discount - 5 massages for $100 - that's like 5 for the cost of 1 around here!
