Had dinner here with some friends who are culinary experts of the of the Columbus metro area. They know everyone! And yes they know Jamie - the Owner/Head Chef. It was a slow night for the restaurant and Jamie came out to greet us. I explained to him that this was my first time there and that everything on the menu looked great. So I asked him to serve me anything on the menu that he felt would make me want to eat there again. My hosts ordered appetizers - we had fried green tomatos with crab on top, a fried grits and shrimp dish, fried okra, and fried clams. Hey it's the south! Everything is fried. It was the first time I had okra and it was very good, the grits were just okay, the tomatos were good. The big surprise for me was the fried clams - very good. I nearly ate them all by myself. So what was the entree??? He combined two of them for me. Soft Shell Crab and Priscuitto wrapped Halibut.
The presentation was fantastic the crab was very good but I mostly enjoyed the halibut . Jamie takes pride in his craft and you can see it in on the dish.
If you are looking for fine dining in Columbus -The Market is the place. I will be back! -

This was my first dining experience here and we were taking some out of town guests for a nice dinner in downtown.
The atmosphere is very nice and the decor is chic and inviting. The staff were pleasant and got us seated right away. We had made reservations so that wasn't a surprise.
The wine list was extensive and had some great variety. Our waiter was knowledgable about the selections and offered a sample of some of the wines before we made our selection.
The menu is simple with a large offering of fried fare. I wasn't impressed with the menu and felt that the food was similar to something I'd find a fish shack not an upscale restaurant. Fortunately, they offer a great selection of specials. Tonight, they included scallops, Chilean sea bass, grouper and several great sounding appetizers.
We ordered two orders of steamed mussels for an appetizers, 3 of us ordered the Chilean sea bass, and the 4th person order the scallops. The mussels were wonderful. The sea bass was fresh, cooked to perfection and the scallops were great. The dinners were nicely presented and the sides were tasty and complimented the meal nicely.
For dessert we had bread pudding and key lime pie. The key lime pie was good but wasn't anything special. The bread pudding, on the other hand, was out of this world!
I would go back for the specials, the wine, the atmosphere, and the bread pudding. -

Excellent food and a nice relaxed atmosphere. My wife and I have eaten here twice and we have been impressed both times. The nightly specials are the best thing - don't even bother with the menu. Tonight I had scallops and a couscous to die for and my wife had a gorgonzola tilapia that was outstanding. Very well done and one of the better restaurants in Columbus. If you are a fish person this is the place for you! (don't worry they have a couple meat dishes as well)

I was somewhat surprised that Columbus had a restaurant like this. My perception of the city area is a war zone of Waffle Houses and Church's Chickens, battling it out for the meager paychecks of the local fire teams of privates that are ravaging the country side with their shaved heads, new balance tennis shoes, and dorky affliction wanna be t-shirts embroidered with skulls and m-16's. But like all cities, it too has its diamonds in the rough. The Market is one of them.
The location is a little difficult to pinpoint if you don't know the area well. I managed to find the place on accident. Parking can be a bit difficult and you may have to park further down the street. The environment is pretty nice and semi-casual. The food is very good, quite possible the best in a 100 mile radius. I highly recommend the crab cakes for an appetizer, I have not enjoyed better. The gumbo was lukewarm and a little bland at first but become pretty decent once you added a few drops of hot sauce. The fish I had was really good and cooked in a coat of crunchy horseradish.
This place has a lot of potential, and if I am ever in the area again, I will surely stop by and see if has improved. -

We took our soldier there and they had to pack up everything fast for us and they were awesome!!! Food was good but they did not know what a Black and Tan is but other than that fabulous!

Plates are good sized portions. I had the tuna which was fabulous! My husband ordered the blacked shark and it was slightly burned and the blackening seasoning they used had no flavor. Which was super sad bc he's from New Orleans. I think we would go again but stay away from anything blackened!

Our first visit. Food was great, atmosphere was perfect but service was just okay. Waitress seemed rushed. Try the fried brussels sprouts.

This is the premiere restaurant in Columbus GA. Definitely somewhere to take a girl you 'really' like on a first date. Go after payday because you will be spending some money. But I go to these type of places about twice a year when I want to treat myself.
They do an ok job on the drinks but could use a little help in that department. Also, the service is streaky. I've been here four times and it's hit and miss. Streaky meaning order is slightly wrong, takes too long to get the food and some chef snobbery. They did not have a certain type of fish I wanted but they would not alter the sides for me because the chef wouldn't allow me to have that side without that particular fish. Really!? We are not in NY, we are still in Columbus right? lol!
But the food is fantastic and FRESH. I had some of the best mussels I've ever eaten. They do a great job with Sway (a type of fish) and I've never had a bad side (great greens, cheese grits, etc.). After dinner I recommend you share the bread pudding with your date. It's fantastic, since I normally don't even care for bread pudding. I hear they have a good lunch menu but I've never seen it. Ambiance is fairly nice too. You've got to try it once. -

Not all that impressed with the menu itself, but the daily/nightly specials selection is always different and hard to choose just one from. The service was decent but seemed to be a little slow. Especially considering that they were not very busy at all.

Service was attentive. Food was average. Overall unremarkable. We even forgot the name of the place the next day. Had the ribeye and the sway.

My favorite seafood restaurant in Columbus. The selection of fresh fish is awesome. The menu itself is pretty disappointing, but they always offer LOTS of specials, so there is a good variety to choose from. Prices are usually very reasonable and service is great!

This is the best casual fine dining restaurant in Columbus. I should stop there, because that's already set the expectations for a town that could do much better (and once did -- anyone remember McKinley's? W.D. Crowley's? Louie Louie's Bakery Deli?) Anyway, you guessed it: It's seafood. There are occasional surf-and-turf specials. I love most of the staff. Ambiance is nice, if a little echo-y. Be sure to get the fried green tomatoes for an app and, for lunch, the horseradish-encrusted grouper (or other fish). Dinner specials change nightly and generally all are good. For dessert: bypass everything for the bread pudding. Like most places in CGA, there's this weird need to put too much pepper in everything. Same here. Great bar. If they bring your martini in a warm glass, it's because they don't have enough stemware in the back. Make 'em chill it.
