5 reviews for The Marina Del Rey Hotel
A darling little hotel in the corner of Bali Way near Admiralty Way at Marina del Rey. Though the internal structure and design is quite outdated, its location is magnificent, strategically convenient for morning or afternoon jogging with the view of the marina.
With the right structural and interior design upgrade, this cozy hotel can turn into a hip boutique hotel. The staff is friendly and the price is very right. Unlike the big-chained hotel, one could save corporate expenses by almost $100 bucks. Last week, I had to stay for another work night, and booked myself last minute via their online reservations. Since they did not have the King bed room I booked, they even furthered my discount, and I only paid $100.00 for a beautiful room with a view.
The only downside is that the shower water pressure was very weak. A plumbing upgrade would greatly enhance a weary road warrior's evening. Nevertheless, I had a pleasant experience and would therefore come back.

I suppose that each one of the negative reviewers has a point to their bad reviews, but I have stayed at this place numerous times, over 10, and have never experienced dirty linens or anything disorderly.
Is the place old? Yes.
Could it use a complete interior remodel? Yes.
Does it have better Marina views than the Ritz? Yes.
Is parking free? Yes.
Is the staff friendly and helpful? Yes.
All in all, I'm terrified for the day they either tear this place down or gut it and start over. They could easily charge $300-$400 a room after that. I am perfectly content to pay $180/night for a clean, albeit dated room, with some of the best views in the world.
We booked our stay at Marina Del Rey Hotel through http://Priceline.com using the "Name Your Own Price" option. We picked the option to stay in "Santa Monica," not knowing which exact location we would land and were very pleasantly surprised with this property. We arrived a little later than we had hoped, around 11:30pm on a Friday night, from our long and hot motorcycle ride from Las Vegas, and needless to say we were tired, sore, and just ready to go to bed. There happened to be a power outage all along Bali Way, just 10 minutes before we had arrived, and there were 2 employees outside the property with flashlights directing us inside the pitch black lobby, where you could hear worried guests chatter as we attempted to check in. We were asked very politely by the front desk clerk, Ben, to have a seat while they waited for the power to come back on as they had no computer access to see what rooms were available for us. After about 15 minutes Ben came to us and and said they were going to have us stay at one of their sister hotels, The Marina International, about a mile away and have us come back the next day to check in. We did so, and from then went on to have a very pleasant stay. The hotel is right on the marina and there is a biking/jogging path nearby. It is very close to Santa Monica--within 4 miles--and a good 45 minute walk to Venice Beach. Staff remained courteous and friendly for the remainder of our stay. The hotel is what we would have expected for a 2-3 star property (per http://Priceline.com) but our room service was always done and overall it was a clean place. Our room faced the marina and we slept with the windows open--my only issue is that we could hear kids playing in the attached swimming pool every morning, so if you are planning on sleeping in every day, try getting a room facing the parking lot in front. We would definitely stay here again for the price ($64/night via http://Priceline.com, when the going prevailing rate was around $180) and even if we had to pay a little more it would still be worth it.
Wow! Where do I start? Ok, my cousin hosted a huge birthday bash at the hotel. I'm guessing she spent a couple grand. The hotel pretended to give her a "special" rate for those of us who wanted to stay at the hotel. A search of the website revealed this was in fact the standard web rate.
So anyway. I get to the hotel, check in, go to my room. I really wanted to take my luggage back downstairs, check out and just sleep in my own bed. This hotel is OLD. Like, not 80's old, like 60's old. The furniture had to have been purchased during the Miami Vice era. Its horrible, out dated and used. The carpet was filthy. The furniture was damaged. The bed linen was dingy. The bed skirt was dirty. The grout in the bathroom was cracked. The toilet was so low to the ground i basically just squatted over the toilet. The paint was peeling. The curtains were falling off the rod.
You get the picture. They're supposed to be shutting the hotel down for a complete remodel. Remodel is an understatement. They need to set off an implosion and just start from scratch.
I am truly offended that they took my $179.80. In fact, I'm pissed.

i wish i could give this place negative stars. completely awful in every way. we booked three rooms for two nights because our family was in town for a wedding. we specified that we needed two beds in each room, and that one room needed to be handicap-accessible. we were told this would be no problem. we called and confirmed this information twice, including the day before we arrived. when we arrived, the front desk staff informed us that they had only one room left with double beds, and no handicap-accessible room. they then assured us that they would reserve the proper rooms for us the second night, but the next day they once again said they had no handicap-accessible or double rooms left.
the rooms we stayed in had moldy, flaking wallpaper, mold in the dresser drawers and even a dripping ceiling. we noticed many other guests making similar complaints at the front desk, and a maintenance man told us that the hotel refuses to pay for any repair or upkeep. "they just vacuum the rooms; they won't do anything else," he said. the hotel ended up giving us a significant discount, but you couldn't pay me to stay here again.
