My wife and I closed on our first house June 15. It was a crazy process that brought us to finding our new home. We looked at dozens of homes with Josh Yearsley our amazing agent. He was so patient and worked with us as part of a team to help find the gem we now call home. The whole team at Mandy and David are great people who will go out of their way to help a client. They really want you to be happy with your purchase and help you understand the ins and outs of the home buyers market.
For any first time home buyers I would recommend working with this team. -

It seems that everyone is a real estate agent these days - and I didn't want anybody. My husband and I were looking for a home in DC, and wanted someone who could put up with our (i.e. "my") many demands for a home as well as know the area well.
Mandy and David were great to work with! They know the DC area well, and provided very open and honest feedback to us along the way. When we finally found "the one" (on our first visit), the companies that they referred us to to complete the buying process were unparalleled. From the lender to the inspector...they all were top notch and really knew their stuff.
Nearly 2 years after buying our home, Mandy and David still readily answer my housing related questions. -

I have stated on previous occasions that I have the most amazing doctor (Moody Mustafa) & sylist (Jae at Franz Sebastian Salon). I also have an amazing cleaning service (rosahousecleaning@yaho...). It really is nice to be able to recommend something without any reservations......and it always seems like that is a very short list.
I am now fortunate to be able to add Mandy & David to that list. They are both wonderful -- and it is a huge plus to have TWO agents that keep your best interests at heart and make the whole process manageable and fun.
They are patient, smart, sincere, personable....I can't imagine hearing anything but amazing compliments (as other have noted) -- everything you will hear is true. Each one of them is wonderful and combined they are a dream team. I can't imagine working with anyone else -- and we knew we wanted to work with them immediately after our initial meeting -- and they have lived up to expectations with each interaction. So while looking for real estate can be tough, finding a good agent is now very easy. -

Buying your first house is overwhelming. Buying your first house in the DC area is even more overwhelming. Thank god for Mandy and David at Hounshell Real Estate.
They guided my husband and me through buying our first house and made it a pleasant experience. Both realtors work as a team and complement each other well as far as their skill-sets. They made us feel at ease and asked lots of questions to help us pinpoint what we were looking for. Their agency, Hounshell, is a boutique - there are no kickbacks for using a preferred lender or house inspector, so I felt like their recommendations were solid and based on experience. And everyone they recommended worked out very well.
One thing I liked the most about them is that while being knowledgeable, they are also personable. Looking at properties was great fun, and I enjoyed myself so much I felt like we were looking for a house with two good friends. Highly recommended!Listed in: Be It Ever So Humble...

Seeing as how I found The Mandy and David Team on Yelp to buy our house, I figure I should definitely yelp about them in gratitude (even if it has been 11 months since our home buying process first started).
So like I said, I found The Mandy and David Team on Yelp, as my husband and I were moving from Colorado to DC, and I had no personal references to go off of. I emailed with Mandy and David some of what we were looking for in a house, and some of the complications that we were facing (one, we lived half away across the country; two, my husband was out of the country when I started house hunting; three, we didn't have a clue about the real DC). Mandy and David were great on my first house hunting trip, which happened to occur at the tail end of "Snowmeggedon". They drove me around much of DC, telling me about the different neighborhoods, pros and cons of everyplace, and showing me a variety of houses in condos that were well within our price range. Since my husband wasn't with me, this was more of a fact finding mission, and I left town telling them that I would be in contact in a month or so when my husband could join me, and we would be making an offer on our next visit. They were cool with this and even gave us the contact information for a mortgage broker that they often work with, so that we could have our pre-approval when making an offer. Fast forward a month or so, and it was time for another house hunting trip. Unfortunately, we could only time it for Easter weekend when both Mandy and David were out of town (totally understandable...it was not our ideal either!), but we were assigned to work with Tyler Jeffrey, who deserves a medal for all he did for us...in three days of househunting, Tyler took us to probably about 15 houses, including 3 houses that we visited twice, and gave us great restaurant and happy hour recommendations every day so that we could unwind. We did find a house and submitted an offer that weekend, and then we had to return to Colorado, but we felt okay leaving since Tyler was so on top of everything! He worked through the counteroffers, scheduled an inspection (which he went to with my sister since we were not in town) and closing, all in 3 weeks time.
In short, we love Tyler and the Mandy and David Team! We plan on using them for all of our DC real estate transactions! -

Like 99.9% of the reviewers here, my husband and I had a fantastic experience working with the Mandy and David team. We mainly worked with Robert Crawford, who carefully guided us (nervous, high strung first time buyers) with patience and good humor through the 9 months it took us to find the perfect place. Robert has lived in the DC area for much of his life, and his knowledge of the neighborhoods throughout DC is amazing. His knowledge of the process of buying and the current tenor of the real estate market in DC is equally impressive. Best of all, Robert went out of his way to make himself and his knowledge available to us, and was always able to answer my (many) questions clearly and quickly.
One of greatest benefits of working with the Mandy and David team is the fact that they are truly a "team." While Robert was our primary agent (and I can't say enough good things about him) we also viewed some places with Julie and Josh on the very rare occasion that Robert was not available. Both were friendly and helpful, and were as familiar with what we were looking for and had looked at in the past as Robert was, which speaks volumes about the communication that goes on behind the scenes in the Mandy and David office.
I've already recommended Robert and the Mandy and David team to two friend who are thinking of buying in the future, and will be contacting them in the future if/when we decide to sell. -

Outstanding company, the agents were friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. We originally worked with Robert, but after he took some time off for his wedding and honeymoon (which he told us about the day we met), we worked with Tyler and ended up sticking with him. Both agents were familiar with the neighborhoods we were interested in and also suggested some similar areas we hadn't thought about.
We felt very relaxed and encouraged by our agents, never being pressured to expand our price range or look at houses we knew we wouldn't like. Both agents also gave us very honest appraisals of houses we liked, giving us really helpful disinterested opinions when we needed them.
Tyler was especially helpful, sticking with us through three offers, some less-than-reasonable sellers, an issue with the appraisal, and other hiccups. He also has been a great resource since we closed, helping us out with any loose ends or telling us who to talk to to get something fixed. My wife and I consider Tyler a friend, and we will absolutely be using Mandy and David to sell our house and buy our next one.
One representative story of how great this agency is: a couple days after we moved in, I locked myself out while walking my dogs. It was raining, I had no spare key, no cell phone or wallet, and two small dogs who couldn't hang out in the rain with me for 8 hours while we waited for my wife to get home from work. Not knowing what else to do, I walked to Mandy & David's office to see if they had a spare key or could help me get a locksmith to come. They let me use their computers to email my wife, one agent let me use her phone, and offered to let me and my dogs hang out in their lobby till my wife got out of work. This was after we had closed and they had no further obligation to me.
I couldn't speak more highly of them, no problems or complaints at all. I was not impressed with Stewart Title, who still hasn't sent me any of my paperwork despite repeated requests and required me to agree to let them sell my personal information to junk mail in order to do business with them.
Thank you, Tyler, Robert, and everyone at Mandy and David! -

To add to the growing list of glowing reviews here....
We were incredibly lucky to run into Tyler Jeffrey at an open house when we were just dipping our toes into the real estate market. Two months later, we are settling in to our new home and could not have been more thrilled with the attentive and professional service we received from him and the rest of his team.
Knowledgeable, responsive, supportive... Tyler listened at length as we discussed our hopes and fears for the house-buying process and went out and found us an ideal place; one which we would likely have otherwise missed, since it was slightly outside of the area in which we were originally looking. We fell in love with it, and he and his team were a huge help throughout the rest of the process, including many phone calls from us at odd hours and during the holidays.
They've earned our enthusiastic endorsement. -

I can't say enough positive things about Mandy & David. My girlfriend and I went to them based on a Yelp recommendation - and they were wonderful. We were both first time homebuyers and we had the usual jitters - and LOTS of questions. Both David and Mandy were very responsive, patient, and good at explaining things. They are personable and fun - and very knowledgeable. Everyone that they have recommended has been just as great - from the mortgage lender to the locksmith. We moved into our new home this weekend and Mandy and David made the whole process totally easy and painless. If you are looking to buy a home, give them a call!

We worked with Robert Crawford at Hounshell Real Estate when we were buying our first home this spring. I found Hounshell on Yelp since I didn't have any personal recommendations, and overall I was very satisfied with the experience. I would use them again when we need to sell this house and move on - I saw interior pictures of the houses Hounshell had renovated for sale and they were very tasteful and well-done. A few more specifics about our experience below.
Strengths:
Attitude that was realistic, yet "can-do" regarding finding a home we wanted for our price range. One other realtor I spoke with did not seem to understand DC market realities--she suggested we look for new construction townhouses in Capitol Hill (???); another was borderline condescending about how much we wanted to spend. Robert was resourceful with excellent DC market knowledge, and offered lots of suggestions on how different homes could be renovated. He knew a lot about construction and development plans in the up-and-coming neighborhoods, which was also helpful in thinking about how property values might move in the future.
Easy to work with. Very pleasant demeanor and very responsive via email and the phone. I appreciated that he let us do as little or as much as we wanted in the home buying process. For example, I anted to be really involved in searching the MLS, but then once we signed our contract, I was happy to not deal with all the behind- the-scenes work that was no doubt going on. I felt confident he had everything under control-- we closed in less than a month after signing a contract. The recommended title company (Stewart) had a nice website where I could view all the documents, which was very convenient.
Really dedicated, flexible. He went to a lot of trouble to help us see a foreclosure property with very little advance notice from us (though it turned out to be too much work to renovate). Then we had travel plans that required us to see houses right after the huge snowstorm in February, and he was really accommodating to take us to a few places and finally took us back to his own house (since there was 3 feet of snow outside and it was too difficult to get to the office) to write up our offer.
Weaknesses:
None stand out in particular. The recommended inspector seemed fine although we've found a few appliances that don't work properly across the past few months. The bill also seemed expensive ($500) but perhaps that's the going rate. I should have asked beforehand how much it would be but I didn't think of it.
Bottom line:
We thought about using Redfin instead and getting a refund, which might be ok for really experienced buyers, but since it was our first time we wanted a lot of attention and hand-holding and thought a real agent would be better for that. It's a huge decision to buy a house, and I didn't want to cut corners over a few thousand dollars only to realize a few years down the road that I've made a big purchasing mistake that might cost me more. We ended up with a townhouse with a back yard right at our ideal price, so I will definitely recommend Hounshell to friends. -

Have worked with several other realtors in the DC area, but this team is exceptional. They know their business and they work with integrity. I would not hesitate to work with them for any real estate sales or purchases.

As a first time homebuyer, I could not more highly recommend Robert Crawford of Hounshell Real Estate. Honesty, integrity, reliability, and professionalism are the qualities that come to mind when I think of the interactions I had with Robert while looking for my first home. And believe me, I know the difference between a good Realtor and a bad one.
During my two years of home hunting (yessss, I said it - 2 years!), I originally decided to go with another Realtor that an acquaintance referred to me. That Realtor arrived at appointments late unarmed with any relevant information, relied upon me to provide him with listing information for the properties that I was interested in, did not research on my behalf at all including the comps, and quite honestly appeared to be more interested in his own Real Estate portfolio or his higher income bracket clients than this Real Estate virgin.
My second Realtor was a personal friend, and while a very thorough Realtor - inserted way too much of his opinion based upon his impression of me for me to feel comfortable shopping for Real Estate through him.
Enter Robert, my Real Estate savior! Not only did Robert arrive at all of our appointments on time, armed with listings, ideas, and comps, but he always provided me with OBJECTIVE information, not speculation, not opions influenced by personal preferences - OBJECTIVE information. Additionally, Robert showed me properties until I was satisfied that I had seen what was out there and was ready to make my decision and never made me feel like I should hurry up. Finally, he was able to get me to think outside of the box and consider a variety of areas/options that would meet my requirements that I would not have thought of on my own. His demeanor was always pleasant, and at the closing table I can tell you that he was somewhat of a "peace keeper."
I did not have any of the first time homebuyer jitters that I did with the other realtors. What can I say, he is the best! -

Mandy and David are great! I was a clueless first time home buyer and they really made the whole process as easy as possible. Not only were they able to explain the very intimidating process of buying a home, but they regularly went the extra mile to fight through the inevitable hurdles that crop up when buying a place. I couldn't be happier with there service and would recommend them to any of my friends looking for a real estate agent in the DC area,.

amazing team! ;) .. i worked very closely with josh in selling my condo, and the process went so smoothly. everyone was really on top of things. everytime i called or sent an e-mail, i would receive an immediate response. they knew how to market my condo and gave excellent recommendations. also, everyone was very honest and personable. i didn't feel any pressure at all, and i couldn't have worked with a better team! plus, my condo sold for above listing price, and i made money, which is hard to do in these times. now, that i've moved to nyc and have worked with different agents, i sadly miss the quality of work that the mandy and david team provided me.

I cannot sing enough praises for Mandy & David. They made the entirely complicated, confusing process of buying your first home a total cinch. They start out by going over the entire process of buying from square one, so that you know exactly what you are getting into. Before they will even send you listings, they spend a lot time getting to know what your needs/wants are, then send custom tailored listings. I had been looking on multiple online realty sites and didn't find nearly as many quality listings. They have a really wonderful network of contacts, so they generally have a handful of people you can call for all services you need along the way (inspectors, insurance, finance, settlement lawyers) . My favorite part about them was their very friendly and casual nature, it felt like home hunting with friends rather than people that were making money off you. They were funny, snarky and were more often pointing out the negatives of a property so that we weren't going into anything with rose colored glasses on.

I didn't work directly with Mandy and David, but I was assisted throughout my home buying process by Shannon O'Farrell of Hounshell Real Estate. Shannon went out of her way to ease the process for me, and relentlessly helped me with my entire loan process. I believe that with a lesser agent, I would not have ended up closing the deal on my condo. I would recommend Hounshell Real Estate, and in particular, Shannon O'Farrell to anyone looking to purchase a home.
