I was just having the conversation with CN today that I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place. I'm down here at least once a month (sometimes more) having lunch with clients down the "airport-way". We always pick this place because they have consistent everything.
Bangers and Mash-pretty good. I'm a fan of the dish in general. I think Hand in Hand has better mash (sometimes).
Fish and Chips-this is the score kids. You're in a Brittish pub, get the Brittish grub.
Smoked Salmon Sandwich-my favorite, of late. I'm trying to not eat as much fried food these days. It's got a good flavor and the cucumbers add a nice crunch to it. The dill sauce is very flavorful, but still light.
I haven't been in the evening or at night to drink. I hope I get a chance to change that soon. With all of my friends that live in Newnan, et al. I'm sure we'll meet up here at some point.
The service has never been bad and I've always been well taken care of. Can't complain.
I'll reserve the last star for when I actually get to hang out in the afternoon/evening and try their drinks/beers, etc.
I must say thanks to Yelp on this find.
A friend had a 3 hour layover in Atlanta today and the last thing I wanted to do was hang out at the airport. With a little searching, I came across The Manchester Arms, which is 3 miles from the airport and even better yet, has 27 reviews with a 4.5 star average rating.
Located in a small Tudor type house, the interior is simple, light and airy, but still had the flavor of an English Pub. Quite a nice surprise, considering the proximity to the airport. Especially nice was not having to pay airport prices for libations, as well as excellent service and a nice, relaxing atmosphere to catch up.
My friend ordered the English BLT, which was English style bacon, lettuce and tomato on toasted wheat bread. I mentioned that it looked delicious and he commented that it was very tasty. One negative I did note was that his fries were battered, which made me happy that I had opted against my original desire to get the burger with fries.
I ordered the special, which was spicy chicken wings (surprise, surprise) and they were very tasty, despite obviously being from baby chicks. I thought it was odd that they were served with carrots and two sauces for dipping, thousand Island and Mayo (should I be surprised, it is British after all). No worries though, thankfully the spicy wings did not require any type of sauce to enhance the flavor.
Decent food, excellent service and a nice atmosphere. I am so happy that Yelp helped me find The Manchester Arms. Now I have a "go to" place for killing time, before arriving at the airport. This is a great little neighborhood pub, too bad it is not closer to home.
The Best Pub in Atlanta
It's located in an unusual spot of town near the Airport but tucked away in a neighborhood headed North on Virginia Avenue in College Park. The pub is housed in a beautiful converted Tudor Home and has a large patio nestled between a church and neighborhood The atmosphere is as original as any Pub I have ever visited and provides a very welcome feeling.
We started with the Duck Wings covered in sweet and sour sauce. It was their special for the night and we tried. The wings were very good, tender and flavorful. Those were gobbled up pretty quickly.
Next on the main course was Bangers and Mash. They consisted of several sausages on top of in garlic mashed potatoes with fresh veggies and dark gravy. This was a superb dish, not as plentiful as Pub71's but very, very good. You won't be disappointed with this selection if you make it.
The Fish and Chips is their signature. There isn't a spot in Atlanta which can come close to this one. The batter is lighter than most, with almost a tempura batter flavor. You get a couple of pieces of delightful fish, none which you have experienced before. The Fries were good, but not over the top. They could be over the top if they made their own fresh cut fries. But a far as it goes, no one can touch these guys on the Fish and Chips.
The service is good and the menu pricing is affordable; in fact the value you get for the quality of food is great.
We were in town for a conference and found this pub through this site. We were not disappointed in the least!
We first visited on Thursday night and ended up coming back the next 2 nights as well.
The food here was awesome! Varies from traditional English pub food (Bangers and Mash and Shepards pie) to some creative dishes that were out of this world. The atmosphere is great. Not a typical restaurant feel. Being in an older house, you walk in and it has a very warm feeling. Patio is fantastic,2 tiers with enough room but not to many tables or to crowded. Inside, they have a great upstairs area for additional seating or maybe even large parties.
Staff and the owners were very friendly and you instantly feel as if you have been coming here for years. Hard to find these days!
Great beer selection. We stuck to Guiness (which the do pour correctly) however they have several other draft choices and a number of imported bottled beer. Prices are reasonable, on Saturday night they have "locals" night with $4 drafts and a reduced menu and a reduced cost. Great Idea!
The food here is still great: this time I had the cod sandwhich and my husband had the fish tacos. I know, I know, not very British but very delishious just the same. We were able to enjoy the patio- it was very busy with several large groups and patrons inside and outside.
I am taking away a star for the service. Our server seemed perfectly nice and we also received a visit from what I beleive to be the manager but service was very slow. Mr Server, I know you were busy so I won't come down too hard, but you did not check on us very often and our check took a while to come out.
That said, I will return for the food and the fabulous little patio.

The fish & chips definitely made me jump for joy (not literally). It was perfectly seasoned, and cooked to perfection. It's makes you want to slap your momma.
I've never eaten here, but the old school bowling game is enough for me to come back.
They also had the obligatory Golden Tee (which I refuse to play), in addition to darts and my all time favorite Big Buck Hunter.
Anyway, we had a fun time, and the manager gave us some extra quarters when he saw that we were in a stalemate and out of coinage.
Had lunch with my mother-in-law Friday the 15th of May. She wanted fish but I could not think of a place that served fried fish. Manchester Arms satisfied the fried fish request. She had fish and chips and I had the smoked salmon sandwich. Both meals were really good. The smoked salmon was freshly prepared, filling and delish. The fish and chips were hot and perfectly presented. The server seemed a little rushed but she still handled us in a respectful manner. I'll definitely go back. I am dying to taste the Sheppard's Pie.
I don't eat here enough. Plain and simple. This is probably my favorite place to grab some Fish n' Chips and a Guinness. I am never disappointed in any meal (or beer) that I get here. It beats the pants off any other Gastro Pub I have been to in a long while. Trust myself and they the other Yelpers that this place is a must visit.
THE BOTTOM LINE -- Why are you still reading this? Get your butt in gear and get down to the pub!!
We love this neat pub. Great food always. The staff is warm and friendly and the patio area is comfortable and surrounded with flowering plants and herbs. We live out of town but look forward always to the really creative and exceptional food . We just keep going back because it's so great. There's always something unexpected , never boring and plain. The desserts are like everything else. Just yummy.
Hmmm. I used to love this place. And normally I would not post a bad review, but I'm not so sure now. I used to go in for the BBQ chicken sandwich with cheese and bacon and it was utterly delish. And I loved sitting on the patio in the spring and fall for some relax time with friends. I still love the patio, but not the food, or the service. Tell me peeps...what happened??!!
Here is my story and Im sticking to it.
I walked there with some local neighborhoodies on a Thurs night around 6pm. There was NO ONE on the patio but our group of 6 people. The inside was rather busy and small, but we didn't think it would be a problem to get a quick bite. Two adults with us has 11 month old babies, but they weren't cry babies and they were sitting in their highchairs content. We all ordered a round of beers, then some food about 20 mins later. Our server was actually nice, but I think she was overwhelmed. We were informed that she was training a server that night, and they only had one other server on. Most of us have been in the biz before, so we understood that service might be a bit slower than usual. Next thing we know it is 7:45pm and we still haven't got our food yet. At 8:00pm, still no sign of our food. One person from our table went in to see what was going on. She ended up asking to speak with the manager and the owner came out. He was not friendly and did not help the situation at all. He approached my friend, his patron, in a high anxiety defensive attitude right off the bat. She explained what happened, and he actually printed out the server ticket, brought it over to my friend, and stated that we "didn't order until 7:20pm, so it is not his fault that the food isn't out yet." First of all the ticket showed that the server forgot to put our order in.
But Wait...I thought the restaurant caters to the customer?
We are not a high maintenance group and were not looking for FREE anything! We just wanted him to know that we had been sitting out there for an hour and a half waiting on sandwiches. If they forgot to put in the order, fine...we probably would have been happy with an apology. But the owner actually looked at my friend defensive and flustered and said "Im not giving you anything for free. You ordered late and we are busy." So we paid our tab which was $80 dollars or so. Half of us left, the other half waiting for the food to go. (which by the way they did not get until about 8:15pm)
He lost about 7 customers from the neighborhood that live within walking distance, and got a bad review. Over what? A non-apology?
Went there last night to see if this place lived up to the hype, and all I can say is HELL YA!!!! The best fish and chips in town, hands down, and the fish was perfectly cooked. The Sheppard's pie is also great, and the place it-self is great.
If you are looking for a true pub, where the music is not so loud that you have to scream to talk, this is it. I spoke with the owner for about 15 minutes and he told me it is an older crowd, 30 and up.... which is great for me.
This place was great from top to bottom; even the bathroom was clean and nice. Looking forward to going back and trying other items on the menu, and using the patio to sit and enjoy the weather.
What a great place! My pal had his birthday gathering here, and we had a grand time taking up the entire upper floor. The pub itself is so charming, and we had personable and prompt service. I had the fish and chips and you should too! Very good. My FH tried the bangers and mash and he wasn't too happy with the taste, but that's his issue to yelp. I had a great time and will definitely go back.
Went for dinner on a Thursday night during a big thunderstorm. Would have been nice to sit outside if the weather had been good. Fair number of people, mostly at the bar. We sat ourselves because none of the wait staff was in the front when we got there. Once they noticed us, they were very friendly. I had the grilled chicken sandwich with onions and melted pepper jack cheese. Very tasty, nothing to write Food & Wine about, but good. My boyfriend had the fish and chips and a Guinness. He said the fish and chips were decent, kind of pricey for bar food, but the Guinness was poured perfectly.
Definitely looks like a good place to hang out and have a few beers, food could be better and a little cheaper.
I don't often venture this close to the Perimeter, or to the southside of town, but I met some girlfriends at this pub for a weeknight dinner. I am now intensely envious that this place is in College Park.
The pub is housed in a really lovely converted Tudor house with a large patio nestled between a wooded area, a church and a residential neighborhood on Virginia Avenue. The atmosphere is as charming as the architechture (which includes a stunning arch-shaped entry door). I walked in to find a small bar, cozy tables and friendly, laid-back, attentive staff.
We were seated in the upstairs space which has exposed beams, but, somehow, feels cozy and not at all echoey. We ordered beers which came quickly (impressive considering how many times the poor server had to climb the stairs!), and then ordered fish and chips and the steak-and-Guinness pie. Our dishes arrived quickly, and they were hot and delicious. The fish was crisp on the outside with just the right proportion of breading to cod and not too greasy. The chips (i.e. fries) were also crisp on the outside, but soft and steamy on the inside. The fish needed a little salt for our taste, but it was perfect with a drizzle of malt vinegar. I haven't had fish and chips like this since I was in London.
I didn't try the steak-and-Guinness pie, but it looked and smelled amazing, and my companion's plate was nearly licked clean, so I think it was also excellent.
We then ordered the bread pudding and the Guinness brownie, the two desserts our server reported are prepared on-premises. The bread pudding was decent. The Guinness brownie was transcendent. Soft, chocolatey, not-too-sweet. I'm not a sweets person, but this brownie is everything that a brownie should be and more. The kind of brownie that two bites is enough to satisfy because it's so rich and gooey and perfect. *drool*
Our server happily split our checks, and the meal was more than reasonably priced for the excellent service, the homey atmosphere and the high-quality food. I was skeptical about the experience I would have venturing down south, but I left with a happy belly full of delicious food and happy memories of a place that is ideal for a get-together with good friends. Even if it is nearly OTP. ;)
Yes...... we have our very own British Pub!!!! Edward & Tom are the owners (and my neighbors....love you guys!). Edward is actually from Manchester England...hence the name.
Great charm....and wonderful Martinis! I'll have a Cosmo please!
The Shepherds Pie is very tasty but the Calamari is my very favorite.
Wonderful outdoor seating......
The perfect Gastropub. I really love the blue cheese potato chips. Friendlly place with great service, great atmosphere and most importantly great food.
This place is in my 'hood so I'm a bit embarassed that my review is based on only one dining experience. However, I was instantly impressed with the style of the place (English pub transformed from an old tudor style brick house in a quiet neighborhood). The outdoor patio is nice with tons of umbrellas for shade. The food was excellent--I had the fish & chips. The fish was light and flaky with a good fried batter on the outside but not too greasy or soggy. I don't remember how the fries were but I'm sure they were a-ok. My husband had the shepard's pie and devoured every morsel. I got to stick my fork in for a quick bite before he cleaned the bowl and it was awesome--rich and fulfilling, just like comfort food should be. The staff was super friendly. This is definitely a neighborhood hangout but worthy for a drive from anywhere in metro-ATL.
In response to Steven N.'s review, the Manchester Arms often closes for Holiday weekends because the staff is so small, they do post it on their board, but if you are planning a trip during a holiday weekend, you should call in advance. This practice may change in the future, but I'd advise a call.

This place is a little out of the way for me, and the drive there was confusing as I used the outdated Yahoo map link from their website. But all of the driving fiasco was 100% worth it.
My best friend and I were craving fish and chips and after much deliberation, we chose Manchester Arms since it was a halfway point for us. The area that surrounds the pub is definitely questionable, but the pub itself is very safe and extremely welcoming.
Although I wish they had more beer on tap, I found their selection very diverse and catering to nearly every beer bud. We started our meal by splitting the calamari, which was perfectly battered. It came with a Thai sweet and sour sauce that most likely wasn't homemade, but the batter more than made up for it.
When our fish and chips arrived, I thought I was eating a piece of heaven. It was flaky, smooth, and every bit as delicious as it appeared. The fish neatly melted into my mouth and went absolutely perfectly with a tall glass of beer. The fries were pretty nondescript and seemed frozen, which made me slightly disappointed as I was hoping for actual potato wedges.
In addition to the food, the service is top notch. I really felt like I had arrived at a neighborhood pub where everybody knows your name. The service was excellent, attentive, and more than accommodating. Despite its distance from the city, this restaurant is one of Atlanta's best gems. Stop by before you take a flight or on your way back home. It doesn't disappoint.
P.S. If you love sitting outside but hate winter weather, then you should definitely check out their patio. They have outdoor heaters that will keep you and your food warm and toasty.
I searched the web to find a different, local place that my husband and I could try out because we have to come to this area quite a bit. Most of the reviews sounded like this would be a nice place to try, so we did.
I love the atmosphere of the place, and I went safe and ordered the fish and chips, because I am VERY picky! They were OK. A little greasy, but not too bad. The fries were for sure frozen. My husband ordered the special which was a shrimp pasta in garlic sauce. He is not too picky at all, but it was honestly not worth eating. We sent it back and he ordered the safe fish and chips as well, so he ended up eating my fries while waiting. Our waitress was new, but very good. I would still give them another try....
I found this to be a great place, conveniently located to the airport. I recommend it to any traveler who is in town near the airport. They have good beer and great food - if I recall correctly I had bangers and mash. There were four of us who all got different dishes, and everyone was pleased. We even had a Brit with us, and she left a fan.
Best part of my last visit to Atlanta! The atmosphere and setting were great - in an old house in an almost residential neighborhood but still close to I-85. I've eaten Bangers and Mash in London BUT this was the best I've ever eaten. I wasn't impressed with the bread pudding but that may have been personal preference for a moist bread pudding. Main courses for dinner started at about $9. Outside patio dining was available but I ate inside to experience the setting. I don't drink - but - they had an EXCELLENT selection of British beer, ale, and/or stout and other European pilsners and ales. EXCELLENT PLACE TO DINE!
Great warm and cozy British pub in College Park. It is a converted house with an awesome patio in front. Great food as well. The only downside is that it is closed on Sunday.
I have been in love with this place since it opened! Great food, reasonable prices, wonderful service and cool atmosphere! What more could anyone want?
I don't want to be too negative to The Angel, Prince of Wales, etc. -- all acceptable, nice enough places. But none holds a candle to The Manchester Arms, which is very oddly located. Yes, it's usual British pub food, but it's really quite good. And a fun beer selection. And an incredible patio when the weather's nice. I'm not generally one who gives much of a damn about atmosphere, but it's just plain inviting. I'd give a lot to have it within walking distance of home.
One of my favorite places in Atlanta! Who would have known a British Pub in the middle of College Park, GA! This is definitely one of those places that is a "must visit" or "worth the trip!" Their beer selection is amazing and has all of the British Pub faves. Since I am not a huge drinker, I am all about the food...and they have GOOD food!!! I have tried most of the items on the menu and there is not one thing on there that I would not recommend. Tonight David ordered has favorite, Bangers and Mash and I decided to try the Fish and Chips. Both entrees were huge and amazing. The flavors were so rich and savory that we literally licked our plates clean and needed a wheelbarrow to take us to the car! The service is fantastic and they have a wonderful outside seating area when the weather is nice. I cannot wait to go back...next time I'll have to bring some Manchester Arm virgins so they can experience one of the best hidden secrets of Atlanta!
I was looking forward to eating here Saturday evening. But the place was closed. I had verified the times both here and their website and it said they would have been open by 4pm. I drove by at 6pm and it was still closed. Make sure you call the place to ensure it is going to be open since it appears they do not update their webpage.
