I wish the malls were like this in California =( It's definitely high end with the exeption of the usual "only at the mall" type stores. I go here everytime I visit my family and I always leave with a bunch of stuff that won't fit in my suitcase! All of the stores are clean and organized and its like everyone working in that mall is having the best day of their lives.. loves it.

the Short Hills Mall has sooo much that you might be wanting for: Everything to clothe you from top to bottom and a number of different price points (but don't go looking for KMart here, it IS Short Hills;-)

HaHa! I canNOT believe there are reviews of the MaSH on here. This was my childhood mall. So many memories of getting lost in the aisles of Bloomie's, being dropped off by my mother on a rainy Saturday afternoon to shop at Limited Too and God knows what when I was 13. Ohh the memories...I can still smell the pretentious air of Ralph Lauren and feel the touch of the water running down the giant globe in the middle of the mall...
Really though, if you don't make over $100k a year, don't bother shopping here. You'll have to take a Prozac before if you don't, because the prices and the people are so depressing. I saw Jay Z here once shopping. C'lebs come out from NY to check out MaSH. The mall is full of Pingry-Kent Place-Delbarton snobby kids, just waiting for the next shipment of distressed ripped jeans to roll into A&F. But, it is still my hometown mall. And will always be.
#1 stop here: Yogurt at Bloomie's cafe. You really can't get any better than that after a long day of shopping...ahem...or window shopping.
I love to hate this mall. I hate to love it.

Its clean, its big, and its where the beautiful people shop. Even though Im not much of a mall rat, when Its too cold to be outside (or too hot) and i need to stretch my legs, this is a great place. And no food court means a lot less obnoxious kids.
Of course, there is a different kind of obnoxiousness at the SHM, but thats easy enough to ignore.
Extra points for clean bathrooms, great sitting areas (for those who want to wait for someone else to shop) and wonderful restaurants. Oh yea, and the stores are pretty good too. A nice mix of high end, and more affordable stores.
Whats lacking? A bookstore (borders went out of business a short while ago, maybe a smaller bookstore would do well?) and a toy store (i miss fao).

Just attach your black AmEx to your hand if you want to be treated well at Short HIlls. Or just drop a lot of dough on the first store you walk into so you have tons of bags to show your street cred.
I remember dressing up to go this mall when I was in high school so that at least I wouldn't get judged for my clothing, even though I was still judged for my age. Now, that my oldest brother sometimes takes me to help him find clothes (cuz no matter how good boy dresses, sometimes he needs to know that that brown belt with black shoes does not go), I'm treated better. Why? Saks and Neimann's and Nordstrom and Bloomie's that's why. They love him and he loves them. Coolness by association I guess. It's all about who you know. Or rather.. who you know and what they wear. Banana, Diesel, Free People, Apple, Puma, Sephora, and Papyrus.. I can do without everything else. hah
But seriously.. can a mall with a Johnny Rocket's really pass judgement? Oh wait.. that actually makes sense..

You know how some malls partner up with an auto dealer to show off cars? Well, this mall shows off Rolls Royce and Porsches. Definitely upscale with Neiman Marcus, Saks, Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's, etc. They do offer much to appease those who make more middling wages. No tacky food court, but offers tacky chain restaurants instead.
Why would I rather go here? The mall is very easy to do a circuit around in an afternoon. And it has an Apple store and a Crate and Barrel.
P.S. It's open on Sunday, unlike the malls in Bergen.

It misses that one star for the parking. Why? PARKING IS A BIYOTCH. And watch out, because the people that are driving around the parking lots/decks looking for spots with you are ALSO biyotches.
I worked at this mall for about 2 years, plus I live about 7ish minutes down the road, so the appeal of Sho'Hills (yes, I will call it that..get used to it) has faded. However, every time I walk inside I still manage to remember how much I love the place.
Let me take you on a verbal stroll around the place. Shall we?
DO NOT attempt to park in the Macy's parking deck (or the lot out front..YEA RIGHT). Here's an insider secret...park on the downstairs floor of Saks (by the handbag dept). If you pass by the outside of Bloomingdale's and go towards the "back" of the mall by Nordstrom there's a place for you to go in the ground floor of that parking deck, make a few turns until you find the back entrance of Saks. There's almost ALWAYS parking there. And the spots are usually close too, so you don't have to lug around your 15948564 bags that you'll carry (which you MUST carry as many bags around as possible, after all, it's Sho'Hills and here, ladies and gents, money IS everything).
Puma store: good. Lacoste store: good. Ralph Lauren store: good. True Religion store: unnecessary. Starbucks: good luck. Diesel: good. D&G: hit or miss, generally...sometimes the people working are super nice and helpful and sometimes they tend to look at you with eyes glaring "can you REALLY afford it?". Dolce & Gabbana: yea, there's both stores in the mall...also unnecessary (and rarely being shopped). The anchor stores (Nordstrom, Saks 5th Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale's, and Macy's) are always a good time, they're probably your best bet in terms of department stores. They usually have a decent selection and just the right amount of higher-end merchandise with your splash of sales and customer service. Take a gander at the cars you pass by...the Bentley's and Range Rover's are always fun to look at while at the same time having the ability to subconsciously make all the passers-by think about how upscale the mall is. That's the funny thing about Sho'Hills, it always finds little ways to remind you that it's upscale. For instance, the American Express Member's Lounge. It was the first mall to have one of these a few holiday season's ago. I believe there was 1 year when there were 2 of these in the mall. There, cardholders get treated to computers, coffee, gift wrapping (massages, facials, childcare..no, not really, but I can see it happening in the near future).
Overall the service at this mall is good. Because the retailers know that the people who are shopping are typically going to able to drop a grand or so when they stop in a store, each employee is trained to assist as necessary. I like that about the mall.
Don't expect to find a quick bite to eat there, unless you want some Qdoba or Au Bon (both will require you to wait in an unnecessarily long line). The restaurants, however, are decent. Try to go to the Bloomingdale's caf upstairs on the 3rd floor of the store. It overlooks JFK parkway and the foods actually pretty good (overpriced, of course).
Another thing about the mall is that stores are always moving around. I've noticed that several of the highest-end stores in the mall have either left the mall or move around (presumably in hopes for better sales/bigger square footage). Cartier moved. Coach is moving (albeit not highest end, but you get it). Emporio Armani left. Versace left. Oh, and don't go there looking for books or music. There's nothing.
Oh and one last bonus... one trek around the mall (approx. time that it would take to stop into the majority of the stores and look around enough to buy a few things: 2 -3 hours) is like an entire week of wandering around the city. If only there were taxi's that went to Sho'Hills....

As the economy continues to affect even the highest echelons of polite society I predict there will be many people coming here with their pedometers to walk.
very clean.
rare to see this many high end stores in one place. (assuming your not at the forum shops in las Vegas or something)

I live about 2 miles from the Short Hills mall and find that I really don't there except to look. There's an Express, Limited and Gap, but overall don't go there unless I need something specific or last moment. Parking is a nightmare, but you can get valet parking at Nieman Marcus if you want.
It's not a friendly mall and there's no typical food court. LIttle in the way of places to relax. Would rather go to Bridgewater Mall.
NJ has 7% tax, but there's no tax on clothing or shoes.
Edit: I went to the Amex lounge this past winter. No facials, yet!
This mall used to be not as upscale, but the people have always been snotty.
This is a good mall. Perfect for if you want name brands, and mid-scale brands at the same time. You can go to the dept. stores Macy*s, Neiman Marcus, Saks, Nordstrom, and my fav Bloomingdale's. Shop upscale @ Gucci, Chanel, Juicy Couture, L'Occitane, Jimmy Choo, Burberry, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Fendi, and more. Shop mid-scale at Abercrombie & Fitch, Hollister, Gap, The Limited, J. Jill, Ann Taylor, Armani Exchange, Banana Republic, bebe, J. Crew, Brooks Brothers, and more. If you're looking to furnish your home or spruce the kitchen flavor, this mall is perfect. Shop @ Pottery Barn, Williams-Sonoma, Restoration Hardware, and my FAV Crate & Barrel. Electronic stores are also great. Apple, Brookstone, Sharper Image, Bose, and GameStop are some. Find the best jewels @ Cartier, Ross-Simons, Bailey Banks and Biddle, Movado, Montblanc, and Tiffany's & Company.
They also have great restaurants! My fav is Papa Razzi. Fresh Italian cuisine, so dee-lish! Joe's, Au Bon Pain, Qdoba, Johnny Rockets, Legal Sea Foods, and California Pizza Kitchen are also good. Beauty & Shoes at Puma, Space.NK Apothecary, Sephora, L'Occitane, Foot Locker, Aveda, The Body Shop, Lancome, MAC, and Crabtree & Evelyn are good.
If u want something different, come here!
Wow, looks like I'm the first guy to review Short Hills. That's odd...I mean, guys like buying things too...right?
Right.
Short Hills is ideal for its compact size. Going to every one of those stores in Manhattan is going to take a lot of walking, near-death experiences in a cab, or subway waiting. Yech. Short Hills may not have everything, but it certainly has more than enough to keep your standard shopping type happy. They do close early, compared to most malls, so come in the early afternoon or you'll feel rushed. Manhattanites, take a chance. Head to Short Hills and bathe in Jersey air. The rash will go away after a day or so.

Definitely an upscale mall with big name stores. Great restaurants too but watch out for the stroller toting mamas dripping in diamonds. I think they installed some motors in their strollers and some of them have sticks up their asses. Can be a scene on the weekends and most holidays.

Malls pretty much suck. Any mall in the country is going to have the exact same garbage. If you are going to go to a mall though, this one is sooooooo much better than any other I've been to. Yes, it's got the super high end designer stores, but, isn't that what it's all about? The mall is where you go when it's someones b-day and you have no idea what to get them. Not only can buy couture so your gift recipient will know you spent some money, you can view exquisite 40+ year old plastic surgery dolls in there natural habitat.

Short Hills Mall is generally an upscale pricy mall with some regular shops like Gap, and J. Jill for the rest of us.
Yes, there is tax in NJ, folks. Although it is less than in NY.
It's wheelchair accessible, compact, fun to shop in or power walk through at quiet times such as mornings or weekday evenings. Saturdays it is the busiest so buyer beware.
Very nice child friendly bathrooms too.
Good deals are to be had just check the website or concierge desk for sales.
Livingston Mall is about four miles away.
Sure they have a large selection, yes it's quite lovely inside. But this is tough, how to review a mall?....hmmm....I give it 4 stars because if you want an uncrowded shopping experience with all the big names to either shop or just look around in, then hit up Short Hills. But understand that they hike up their prices insanely...if you're going to BR or any other retail stores found in any other mall in America, know you'll be paying top dollar for the exact same items here.
This mall is the mekka of quality and luxury when it comes to shopping experiences. Its a great mall, not too big but has everything that you could possible want. Top quality stores, restaurant and even marble floors. They have an area with comfortable leather seating and fireplace (great in the cold months). I would recommend bringing extra money since Short Hills is not for the cheap. Its an adventure and with the no tax in Jersey you can't go wrong. The have plenty of free parking. You'll love this mall!!!

Is it possible that no one has reviewed this place yet? New Yorkers really need to get out of Manhattan every now and then, and this is a great place to go!
Anchors are Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's, Saks and Macy's. Shops include Tiffany, Gucci, LV, Jimmy Choo, Burberry, Cartier, D&G, etc. They also have the places for normal people like Banana Republic, Crate & Barrel, Anthropology, the Apple Store, Abercrombie & Fitch, William Sonoma, etc.
Yes, you have all this stuff in the city, but not all under one roof. So, rent a Zip Car and take the 35 minute trip to what may possibly be the best mall in the country!

yes this place has most of the upscale stores, as mentioned in the reviews below. it is like they threw in a lot of boutique stores found in Midtown/ Times Square area into one mall. dining options are pretty limited... Legal seafoods, CPK, Au Bon Pain (if you can even call it an eating establishment).
i wouldn't say this is the best mall in america... south coast plaza is like this mall but better. but that's in socal.

very swanky mall not too far from my parent's place. i love that new jersey has no sales tax so i tend to think i'm getting a deal on almost everything i buy. plus, i can get a lot of stuff in new york or new jersey that i never see in california. i always take an extra suitcase when i go home because my mom, sister and i shop our hearts out when we get together. also, since my mom will not go into manhattan to shop the boutiques, short hills is always our destination and we almost always leave happy.
