i went here after a night of heavy drinking... need i say more?! haha the hideaway cafe is located up on a hill just off of pch.
the service was a bit slow, but forgivable as it seemed to be our waiters first day. i liked the fact that the whole restaurant was glass, so there was plenty of light. this also enabled me to wear my sunglasses inside, which i'm always a fan of! especially when i'm slightly hung from said night of heavy drinking. it was also cool because there is a fairly decent view from the restaurant as well. there was a nice little outdoor patio but the weather was not the best so we chose to sit inside.
the food was slightly over priced but hit the spot regardless. we all ordered omelets and left happy and full. :D
in all, this was a good "morning after" spot to hang out and get breakfast. i would go back and eat omelets again!

The rooms are clean, but quite ugly from the 70s. One full wall of floor to ceiling mirrors (which isn't the worst thing really) and outdated small bathrooms. The in room jacuzzi, on a private patio, never heated up enough to use (but late check-in with no reservations so they weren't prepared.) I think they knocked something off the bill for this.
** The mushroom risotto at the adjoining cafe was the best I've ever had. **
The chance that I would ever make a reservation here is slim to none, but this is a decent place if you are cruising up PCH or running around LA and need a quiet place to rest.
I've added a pic of the view from my deck in the morning.

Horrible service and horrendously overpriced for the food. I went there this morning (Sunday) and they took waay too long for food. We waited about 1 hour for our food to be served to us. (At least 30 minutes into our wait a manager told us we would receive it shortly....) We sat near the entrance to the kitchen where our server suffering from a hangover "couldn't have obviously" seen us.
For breakfast, your cheapest meal is 7.50 and it gets you oatmeal. My party averaged about 13.50 a plate and the serving size was half-ass. I order a 10.50 burger which was supposed to be medium-rare and ended up having an overcooked patty that was punier then a hamburger from a Mc Donalds. (At least there I would have gotten a TOY!)
The food was not worth the price. As a member of the party I dined with stated, "You pay for the view." The view was beautiful: the restaurant was set atop of a forest slope in a lush garden properly maintained....however, I did not go to this place primarily to dazzle at some hill I've driven by 100s of times going to LAX---I came to eat a tasty breakfast---and I didn't get that.
Save you money and eat at the Mc Donald's further down the street....at least you know what you're expecting.

From the outside, this place looks kind of charming. Don't let the exterior fool you.
My room smelled like mildew and the whole place seemed dirty, dated, and not well maintained. When I went to the front desk to let them know my room was unacceptable (it looked nothing like the rooms on the web site) and I would be staying elsewhere, the owner said she wanted to look at the room with me, then she proceeded to go into a back room and would not come out. She instructed the person at the front desk to charge me for my entire stay (3 nights) and would not speak to me. Unbelievable! The worst customer service I have ever received at a hotel.

In days of yore we'd come here for breakfast. They have pretty good banana pancakes, good omelets, and an outdoor patio with a view of Westward and Zuma beach. It's not a destination spot, but if you happen to be in the north end of Malibu I'd consider going here for breakfast instead of heading further south to Coogies or Marmalade (as they both have mushy, nasty-ass pancakes, and everything else is hit or miss. Blick!).
Concerning their accommodations: It's a motel, a higher end motel, but a motel nonetheless, so don't be seduced into thinking it's a rustic cliff-side cottage out of some cheesy romance novel. It's comfortable, quiet, and they have a very cozy suite equipped with a large canopy bed and fireplace.

Quiet and peaceful...a place to rest away from the maddening world of LA -- best part is the breakfast...just try it...you might find yourself coming back here to hide out!
