Way cool fun place for kids! My nieces and nephew have all enjoyed it here.
It is a place that grows with the kids so little kids will find it entertaining and bigger kids will find it stimulating. It is pretty cool for an adult too. The smiles, laughs and hands on explorations are truly joyful. It is great to watch kids so engaged and interested in things around them.
It is great that the kids areas are seperated by age, it allows the little ones more freedom and parents have less to worry about.
If you are in town with the kids, this is a great stop. Clean, safe and a learning experience they will be too busy to realize they are having, they will just think it is a jolly good time. Highly recommended.
I love the Magic House. Went there on field trips all the time when I was little and like Jennifer B., the electric ball for your hair is my favorite thing to see. Just went with my son and it was a different experience but still awesome. If you have a little bitty kid, the things on the first floor are the best for that age. We spent a lot of time in the Curious George exhibit and the baby area. The upper floors are best for older kids---plus the slide that goes down the two floors. And that static ball is still awesome. You can get a photo and have it turned into a button on some days.
It is hard to keep track of your kids here if you're in a group. If you're not going on an off day, you might want to use a baby leash if you have a toddler---using a stroller will be hard. There are lots of little staircases and even though they have elevators, it's probably best to leave the stroller at home for a tiny baby. Use a bjorn or something like that to get your best ability to move around.
Such a great place to go.
We Saint Louisians sure love our Magic House.
I am totally baffled at how this place could possibly get anything less than 5 stars???
I picked up a flyer last weekend when I took my "little man" for some energy burning, mind stimulating, mom can kick back and relax kind of fun and while there I found a few little facts on the Magic House that I think are pretty interesting...
"More than 400,000 people visit The Magic House each year. Zagat Surveys' U.S. Family Travel Guide named The Magic House the number one attraction for child appeal, beating Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom. It has been voted best children's museums in the country by FamilyFun Magazine and it is also named one of the top 12 family destinations."
I love this place and it is the perfect place for kids my sons age (4 years old). From personal experience and time spent here with my son, I can say it stimulates every single one of his senses all while helping him strengthen his cognitive development and having a blast. I love any place that I can bring a great book, kick back on a wooden bench, and occasionally look up to watch my little one bounce up and down in glee while he explores the magical world that is the Magic House.
The memberships are soooo affordable - for less than $100.00 I am able to go with the family 5 times a week, year round, if I so feel inclined. I agree that the museum is crowded - we happen to be the most visited museum in the nation with the smallest amount of square footage. The new expansion which is set to open in this winter will hopefully provide a solution to this problem.
Every exhibit is amazing and regardless of which you choose to explore, be sure to get the picture taken with the hair-raising ball - and make it into a button - it is a St. Louis tradition!
I have wonderful memories of coming to The Magic House as a child. I'm glad to say that it is still wonderful. There are so many things for the kids to do here, but it seems that the electric ball that makes hair stand is still everyone's favorite! My favorite was the giant pin screen - remember those little pin toys that you'd put your hand through and the pins keep the shape of your hand? Imagine a huge one that you can press your face and hands into!
A great thing that I learned is that the Third Friday every month is free admission for two parents and up to four children from 5:30-9pm until they reach capacity. So for all those of you who don't want to deal with the cost, check them out during their free hours! Yippie!!
OK, if you are a kid from the St. Louis area, you most likely have a picture of yourself from here--hair standing on end, hand on the electrostatic generator. This is definitely a highlight of the trip, and something every kid should experience.
There is so much to do here--a ton of hands-on stuff kids can spend hours on. Probably not much fun if you are an adult, but I think it would be amazing to watch your kids having a blast here. I remember playing with all the water toys...so much fun! If you have kids, nieces and nephews, grandchildren, are babysitting...take the kids here!
The Magic House is a pretty sweet place to go if you are a child or one at heart. Of course if you are what some would call an over grown child, then some of the exhibits that they have might be a little hard to take part in, either way though, the Magic House is a great place to go, especially with children.
The Magic House has many exhibits that are geared to tingle your senses and stretch your mind. They have things that range from mathematical equations to a giant electrostatic generator that will make your hair stand on end. The magic house is a great place for any one with children or anyone with a desire to learn and experience some fun.
Overcrowded, overpriced, and over-exaggerated.
There are always too many people here. Try to keep track of your children in the huge crowd of people.
$7.50 (ages 1 and above). So, if you take your children here and your one year old can't even walk you still have to pay $7.50 for them too.
You *can* spend a couple of hours here. So, it is good for maybe a once a year visit.
Overall, I will say that if you haven't taken your children here, by all means do so.
I love this place more than I love my Children's Museum in Portland Oregon. And that is huge, because we have a great Children's Museum. They have a completely separate area for kids under 6, which I think is fabulous because then my little one doesn't get trampled by the bigger kids. The area for little ones also includes an alcove for kids under 2! My baby loves that. The water area has a handy seated area for little babies. So cool. There are also some super cool slides. An area to go fishing, a grocery store, a library, a restaurant, etc. I could go on. I still have never seen the whole place. The thing about this place is that it is actually really nice and clean, better yet . . . .adults can have fun too! That is a huge requirement for me. This is a must see whenever I hit the STL area.
