Great food, great service, Happy Hour all day on Wednesdays! We love coming here and are regulars. The menu changes fall winter and spring, but the selection is great, and meals are very well done. The 'small' plates, are not very small and are always enough for a full meal. The kids menu is very good...not kiddish, and very tasty with full size burgers, gourmet mac and cheese (no kraft), etc. The calamari is reliably delicious, as are the sliders, fish tacos, brick chicken and raviolo. We love it all. Service is prompt and reliable as well (although we do frequent mostly on weekdays and not busier weekends. The House wine ( red and white) for happy hour is only fair, but all cocktail drinks we have are A+. We highly recommend.

It's a little bit better than "A-OK" but I wouldn't roll out the red carpet...yet.
I ordered the Pom-Mango Martini to start, and it left a sour taste in my mouth. Actually, it left a thick, syrupy-sweet cough syrup taste in my mouth. Robitussin Martini? Eep! Say it ain't so! Bummer.
I ordered the spinach salad that came with balsamic shallots, a bacon dressing and fresh goat cheese. The goat cheese was VERY good - creamy with the perfect tang to it. The bacon was mixed in the dressing, so it was soggy, not crispy. The dressing itself was great - and the balsamic shallots were tasty. I had a spoonful of my sister's New England Clam Chowder - it was heavy with cream, but runny and not thick like most traditional chowders.
Mains - I ordered the Ribeye medium-rare. It had a great blackened crust and was cooked exactly how I ordered it. I subbed the fries for whipped potatoes with truffle oil - also pretty good. The spicy coleslaw that came on the plate didn't work with the rest of the dish - it was too sweet, the seasoning tasted almost like chipotle...and it was heavy on the Miracle Whip, or so it tasted. I had one bite and pushed it aside. My sister and mom ordered the Braised shortrib. Be warned: it is only one shortrib. It definitely filled them up but the plate looked a little empty to me. It was good, not blow-me-away great, but decent. My dad had the pork tenderloin and I didn't care for it. Again with the chipotle, which I am not against, but somehow it just didn't impress me.
The ambience is nice if you sit in the actual dining room. There were lots of families with kids in the Pub area and eventually as the evening went on, in the dining room. Overall the setting is casually elegant, warm and cozy.
I think the vibe is understated but felt like they were trying to come off as a fine dining experience. I wouldn't call it such. It was good, filling and tasty, but not somewhere particularly memorable. Except for the Pom-Mango martini. That, I will never forget. -

Food - 3 stars. I had the rib eye steak, medium rare. The steak was correctly cooked but the edges were charred. Too much flame from the grill... My friends enjoyed their dishes (ceviche and something else I don't remember).
Service - 1 star. I understand this is Tahoe and sometimes you have to hire younger people with minimal experience. That being said, the service was pretty terrible. After being seated we waited 15 minutes before we finally asked one of the bussers to track down a server.
The server took our drink orders, but there was another delay before we got our drinks. The drinks probably sat at the bar because the glasses of white wine were not cold. She also did not check on us after the food was delivered.
After our meal, she asked if we wanted another round of drinks. There was another long delay while she chatted with her friend. When she made eye contact with our table, she had an "oh crap" look on her face as she realized she forgot to order the drinks from the bar.
She also did not offer a dessert menu. As we were signing our credit card receipt, she came by to apologize and said that she was busy with the 8 other tables that were seated just before we were. If you're going to admit that the service sucked, at least ask the manager for permission to comp a portion of the meal. -

If you're looking for a great place to eat in Truckee, this is it. This MAY be the best food I've had anywhere in Tahoe and the setting and atmosphere are amazing.
We enjoy the place so much we decided to have our wedding reception there last Saturday. Their staff (Especially Tracy & Mike) are fantastic. Even the banquet food was top notch and they took care of us throughout the planning process.
I couldn't recommend the Lodge more highly! -

Just got back from a night at The Lodge. Excellent! I can honestly say, everything was perfect. The service, perfect. The environment/ambiance, perfect. Food, perfect. Everything we had was incredible. We sat out on the deck, listened to a great band....the weather was even perfect.
As we left we were all talking about how every time we eat here everything is great and we have never had anything bad. Well, tonight was no exception. I love this place. -
Review from Skyler W.
The lodge is conveniently located at tahoe donner golf course, I believe this is one of the only restaurants in the tahoe donner community.
I really like the feel of this restaurant and bar. I have been in the summer and in the winter and enjoyed it equally both times. The service was good and the food was pretty damn good too. The lodge is quite expensive though, so be prepared to fork out some money. This is a good place to go if you don't feel like driving into down town Truckee.
When I was here last we ordered the calamari and beer, the calamari was the real stuff, not those small fake little rings. The beer was good, a little too much head but overall pretty good. -

I had a bad experience here. The hostess is a prime example of a $10 employee making an establishment seem as crappy as she is. She talked down to us and made us feel like jerks. Finally, we sat ourselves in the bar. It was very busy and our waitress was waiting too many tables. We finally order and it took them 30 minutes for them to bring us our appetizer.
The macaroni was delicious and my patty melt was cooked perfectly. Maybe I'll get take out next time. -

Came here for my sisters 21st birthday. It was a Sunday night at 8:50 and we called ahead to see if they would still serve us dinner. They said the kitchen closes at 9 but they would wait for us if we could try to make it.. We get there at 9 and are greeted right away by a very nice gentlemen who was expecting us. The feel when you walk in is classy, organized and formal. The menu was simple, but definitely high QUALITY. We had Angus burgers and patty melts - SO good. The bar area in the middle of the floor is cute and i love that it created a rounded bar that is set up so people at the bar are more likely to socialize with each other. They brought us a fabulous birthday desert with the message "Happy 21st Birthday!" written on it, so cute and personal. Those are the little touches that you remember.
They DID forget to put in the order for our prawn appetizer HOWEVER they compensated for it right away and we were feeling like winners by the time we left. For under $90, 4 people had 3 rounds of drinks and 4 dinners. WIN! -

Bar and dining areas are very comfortable. If going to the bar on a weekend, plan early, they open at 5PM, they get busy.
Food is pretty good. Been here on a few occasions, nothing is fantastic but most dishes are good. Kids enjoyed it. Wine list is not bad, beer on tap is poor (they had two at the time of our visit) for a bar area that's pathetic.
Service was spot on and prices were high (but the it is ski season). -

Great meal and great service in an off-the-beaten track location. We probably would have passed right by this place had a local not endorsed it and had we not been staying just down the road. So glad we did stop in!
The farmer's market salad was simple and lightly dressed with a sherry vinaigrette that popped (in a good way). The poached pear with endive salad and Gorgonzola cheese was subtly sweet and tangy, great presentation.
The fish tacos were phenomenal - the grilled fish stood on its own, the ginger had its own role as well and the avocado salsa mellowed the dish out.
The turkey and shittake meatloaf was phenomenal. Wrapped in bacon, slices of meatloaf offered a slight sweetness while rosemary and other spices enhanced the overall flavor.
Finally, we had the duo sliders, one with mahi mahi (huge chunks of fish with pickled ginger and Asian slaw) and one with kobe beef and cheddar. A party on a plate, for sure. -

They apparently do not do to go orders. I arrived in town for business after a long drive for business, and had a lot of work to do in my hotel, and called, after reading reviews on yelp, including that they do to-go orders (this was on a Tuesday night), and was (rudely) told the kitchen was "too busy for a to go order and would I like the number for Pizza on the Hill". Thanks but no thanks. I won't be frequenting this restaurant, with clients, or when I come for leisure trips, ever.

Every time we come up to Truckee, we have to eat at The Lodge Pub. It is the perfect place to hang out after a full day of skiing, snowboarding, or if you are like me - doing a whole lot of nothing in a beautiful setting.
I always get the "NY Pastrami Reuben", which comes with shoestring fries and coleslaw. The reuben is hands down the best I've ever had - and I've had a lot of reubens - perfectly grilled with just enough sauerkraut, cheese and pastrami to make a happy girl cry. The slaw is not a creamy blob (a la KFC) - but crisp and a spicy with horseradish - it almost had me believing I was eating something healthy.
Small selection of beers on tap - but I went for the Moose Drool - because - well - who can pass up a pint of Moose Drool? It was a smooth brown ale with hints of chocolate - a great pairing with the perfect sandwich.
The hubby and I also split the Beet Salad - which was great - except it would have been nice to have more greens. The hubby also got "The Lodge Buffalo Wings". I'm not a fan of chicken wings - too many bones and tendons - not enough meat. He liked them. I think he got them on purpose so he wouldn't have to share them with me. -

We usually love the food at The Lodge, we've been customers since it opened.
However, the other night it wasn't so good. The ceasar salad barely had any dressing on it. Our surf and turf sliders were overly greasy and the bread was doughy. They used to be my favorites. We don't know what to think, is it going downhill or did we just hit it on a bad night?
Maybe it's time to start checking out other places in the area. -
Review from kim n.
I spent many seasons in this area and had no idea that this place existed. Just on the other side of the hill which I never took the time to explore. Well I'm glad I've finally found it. Such a nice elegant place in the middle of really no where except housing. It's fairly large building with an expansive parking lot. As you approach the building there's a large wooden walkway/bridge that takes you into the lobby. A set of stairs goes down to the left and the restrooms to the right. Walking further in the reception post is left in front of the main dining area with the bar/lounge being 180 degrees opposite of it.
We had caught some of the menu and specials while in the lobby but our server was very informative about everything on the menu. After and extensive runover of the menu we decided on:
- Scottish Smoked Salmon on Rosemary Roasted Garlic Focaccia
mascarpone, red onion, capers
- Gnocchi, smoked prosciutto, cream, reggiano, basil oil
- Turkey & Shiitake Meatloaf, whipped potatoes, roasted carrots
- Lobster Pot Pie
Wow. Every bit as good and comparable to restaurants in the Bay Area. Definitely priced the same way too, but totally worth it. The meatloaf was super tasty and wrapped in bacon. How could you not like that? The lobster pot pie was comparable to Michael Minna's. The cocktails were quite creative and flavorful. Everything was delicious across the board.
The service is elegant and attentive, yet still friendly. The clientele definitely swings in the older wealthy type and we felt very young there. The bar however has a very different vibe with a younger crowd. Wonderful food and service, now topping my lists of places to dine when in Tahoe. -
Review from Helen F.
I came here with 3 girlfriends and sat in the bar which may have affected service.
For a nice restaurant charging $19 for meatloaf, I would have expected far better service.
So just for the record, the food is 4 stars, the service 2 stars. Averaging out at 3 stars.
What went wrong with the service? Not only did it lag & lag (I went up and got menus), but our waiter made an inappropriate comment about the price of food which insinuated that we couldn't afford it. I was ready to leave at that point.
The food was very good. Their meatloaf was very tasty - not too salty. Fries were yummy, drinks were strong.
For a "fancy" place like The Lodge, I expect far better than what we received. Sorry, but I will not be returning. -

Right down the street from my father-in-law's cabin in Tahoe Donner, I drove past this place a million times before I realized it was actually a hoppin' dining spot! It leans more toward "home cookin'" than the other restaurants on my "Truckee" list, but when the snow's coming down outside and all you want is something good to drink and something hot to eat, man, this place hits the spot!
Last time we stopped in we started with the soup of the day - which was wonderful - and the simple, Farmer's Market salad, which was also great. I had the fillet, my wife had the risotto, and our guests tried the scampi and the chicken penne pasta. All were superb, the service was great, and surprisingly the wine list was fab and totally affordable as well! They were "clearing out" some stock from year's past ... which may have played a part in the price of the bottles we ordered ... but hey, it's the first restaurant I've ever been to that told you that and dropped prices because of it, which I thought was awesome.
In addition to the restaurant, the bar area is really nice. Dark wood, a number of tables, two fairly well-sized HDTV's on each side of the semicircular bar, and an extensive list of hard-alcohol and beer. They even had Mirror Pond on tap! Mind you, it wasn't Black Butte, but their pale ale is almost as good. Almost ...Listed in: Dinner in Truckee

This is a wonderful restaurant in the heart of Tahoe Donner. It has a great and relaxing vibe with stellar food- especially the fish specials, the grilled figs (awesome!) and the fish tacos. The drinks pack a punch and the portions are large. I dine out often in the Bay Area and this ranks right up there with the best of 'em at a more moderate price-point, in my opinion. The atmosphere on the outdoor deck over-looking the pristine golf course, surrounded by majestic pines is unsurpassed.

This is a great place.
In the summer - great for pre and post golf drinks and food.
In the winter - great for drinks after a day on the slopes!
I was up in Truckee this past weekend with a group of friends. After spending all day on the slopes we were all pretty tired. We cooked dinner at home and continued drinking. Some of us wanted to go out, some of us wanted to stay in our sweatpants and UGGs. So we went to the Lodge. It was a shorter drive compared to going to downtown Truckee, and we were able to get a table an have a few drinks.
They have dice at the bar so we played a few drinking games. What is great about the Lodge is that not only is the staff awesome and fun, but the people who go there are just as awesome and fun. It is like being at a bar with a bunch of really cool people.
The food here is also super good, I can't say too much about it because I usually drink more than I eat here, but I also know that I've never had a bad meal here. -

4.5! Excellent food and service in the main dining room. Went for dinner last weekend and everyone in our group of 5 really enjoyed their meal.
Short ribs were well seasoned and not overcooked; halibut special was right level of flakiness; surf n turf sliders were tasty and bigger portions than expected. Gnocchi was pretty good too. The chocolate souffle and bread pudding were yummy and both had large scoops of vanilla ice cream - couldn't even finish them! Service was pleasant and attentive. We had a nice table at the window, overlooking the pretty meadow and trees below. -

This restaurant is one of those gems you occasionally find and is one of the better restaurants in the Tahoe-Truckee area. I've become a regular whenever my wife and I are in the area and we've never had a bad meal. Food is wonderful, wine list is great, service is probably the best and the price point is on target. We've brought many guests to The Lodge - they always ask to go back.

went on a sunday night ~9pm, place was dead. Drinks were okay priced, (margarita for $8), food a little pricey (had some calimari appetizer $10 +)

Four of us went to the Lodge this past weekend. The restaurant was full so we sat in the bar. We understood the menu to be the same as the one in the restaurant.
Service - nice people but not well organized. We had to ask for someone to clean our table. After our appetizers were delivered, we had to ask for silverware and napkins.
The food was not great. I mean, it was fine for bar food (overcooked calamari, salty fish tacos, bland mac and cheese) but not acceptable for dinner.
If you are looking for decent food in this neighborhood, try Cottonwood, at the top of the hill.
I would not go back to the Lodge. -

The perfect place for my husband and I to kill some time while we waited for our friends to drive up on a busy weekend. We shared a bottle of white wine with calamari and seared tuna. We enjoyed it while watching the sun go down. -

Margaritas= best EVER. I know its hard to mess up a margarita, but these were perfect.
Seared Ahi Tuna= craved this for the rest of the week. The presentation is beautiful, and the basil/pesto and balsamic flavor swirls over the tuna were delicious.
Kind of expensive, but, what do you expect for a fancy resorty place in the Tahoe area?
A must for drinks and appetizers, though.... -
Review from Kara V.
I've been wanting to try this restaurant for awhile, but I was never in the Truckee area at the right time. My BF had a meeting in Truckee in the afternoon, so I met up with him for dinner. The restaurant itself looks very nice with that mountain Truckee cabin look. I'm glad I'm coming here in the summer. The winter driving here can be a real circus, especially driving up the hill of Northwoods Blvd.
We started with the fried Calamari appetizer ($10). It looked pretty good, but I think it was cooked just a bit too long as they were quite chewy. Next was the Caesar Salad ($8). It was actually pretty good. The dressing didn't taste like it was from Sysco. For entrees I ordered the Filet Mignon ($32)and my BF ordered the Ribeye ($29). Our steaks were cooked as ordered, so no sending meat back to the kitchen. My filet was tender, but it was lacking a real beef flavor. BF's ribeye was better, but was a bit on the fatty side, but that's a ribeye for you. Service and the kitchen was on the slower side, but I really don't mind...it's not like I have to be somewhere, and I like hanging out here so no biggie. Overall, its a middle of the road place for me, I'll come back if I'm in the area, but I won't drive from Reno just to come here. I suppose if you are from the Bay Area and staying in one of these nice houses here in Tahoe Donner, this would be very convenient for dinner. -

We finally tried The Lodge earlier this year and have been back six times since and we're not even full time residents. We have taken friends and family who all agree that this is truly a great place for food, atmosphere, surroundings and absolutely some of the best service anywhere.
The main dining room is relatively small, but with enough spacing so you don't feel crowded. There is a large rock fireplace and the decor is casually elegant. There is a second room to the side for groups or just extra space. You can also dine on the very nice deck outside overlooking the golf course. There are patio heaters and the restaurant even provides comfy wraps if to warm you up further.
The menu is fairly simple but anything but plain or boring! My wife's favorite appetizer is the fried calamari. Light breaded and very tender accompanied by two dipping sauces, though they aren't needed. The Wedge salad is one of the best I've had, very fresh crisp lettuce with just as crisp bacon, red onion shavings and the smooth blue cheese dressing.
We've enjoyed every entree ordered. My daughter ordered the fish taco's which consisted of perfectly grilled halibut in nice large pieces. The Tahoe Donner special priced at $19 is a great value and can vary . My wife ordered it last week as lamb sirloin which she enjoyed very much served just as ordered; medium rare. tender and not chewy. This week the special was trip-tip and again prepared just right. The kids menu is just as impressive. Other notable favorites include the short ribs (very meaty and verrrrry tender, no knife needed!), turkey meatloaf and flat iron steak.
The kids appetizer mac and cheese (not on the main menu) is one of the best mac and cheese renditions we've had. We've ordered it for ourselves more than once! My boys love the grilled chicken. One of my boys ordered the fish of the day from the kids menu which turned out to be halibut. The portion was larger than many regular menu entree's at other restaurants. All kids dishes are prepared just as elegantly as the regular menu items.
Be sure and save room for dessert too! Again, can't go wrong here and perfect sizes for sharing!
Finally, I can't say enough how great the service is from everyone. Very attentive, personable and efficient. What is particularly noteworthy is the consistency of the level of service no matter when we've been there. We have no favorite staff because they are all so great!
I can go on an on but suffice to say, as Hank I. noted in his review, this is truly a gem in the mountains and can't be beat! -

Yummy food that we ate in the bar. We had Cesar salads with anchovies, some mac n cheese, spicy prawns, and sliders (ahi and short rib). All appetizers. All pretty good, not amazing. We had cocktails and a bottle of wine and made friends with people in the bar. This is a place for regulars for sure. Close to a friend's house and I'll be back.

Mountain View, CA
For the price I was expecting much more... There is a distinct lack of attention to detail on the dinners. While the visual presentation is great, the sauces tend to overwhelm the course.
Here's the quick rundown, on what was ordered:
Heirloom Tomato Salad -- Over dressed with balsamic vinegar totally hiding the flavor of the tomatos
Beet Salad - The high point of the dinner, very tasty.
Baja Scalops - Three little bears experience, One overcooked (tough), One undercooked, and one just right.
Lamb Ribs - Cooked just fine, but the sauce totally overwhelmed the pallet.
Mac-n-Cheese (kids) - Just Ok -- Mac in a béchamel sauce with baked on two cheese blend of cheddars.
Pasta (kids) - Didn't taste - but looked like a nice rustic sauce over penne.
Deserts ...
Chocolate Souffle -- A little dense, closer between a brownie and souffle.
Meyer Lemon Cheesecake -- the cheese cake was good, but totally smothered in a berry sauce.
Peach Cobbler -- It was new on the menu, so the staff didn't know that they were supposed to peal the peaches. -

Wow, a great restaurant in Truckee! We were completely delighted (and surprised) to find fabulous food, beautiful settings, and great service on our first meal here over Memorial Day Weekend. We will be back again on future trips to Tahoe Donner, and will tell all our friends with cabins nearby how this restaurant completely exceeded our expectations!
Went with the kids, and they were well-taken care of with a great kids' menu, and crayons to color with. They had the mini Calamari and mini Mac & Cheese and loved it.
Delicious food; we tried the yummy smoked salmon appetizer, oh yum, hubby had the turkey meatloaf, and I had the ribeye. Everything tasted great, very nice presentation, and the service couldn't have been better. Also the maitre'd/manager was so very personable and accommodating, making for a fabulous experience from being warmly welcomed upon arrival through being thanked when leaving.
Great wines, good pricing, was delighted to see some unusual (& fabulous) smaller wineries' offerings by the glass.
We've eaten out at most of the nicer restaurants in the North Shore area and The Lodge and the Lone Eagle Grill in Incline are now our top dining rooms in our book. Highly recommended. Thanks for surprising us with a fabulous restaurant in Truckee! -

The food is always good, although it's a bit 'bar' foodish and it won't surprise and delight you. The wine is startlingly well presented and the waiting staff are often spot on with their recommendation. The ambience leaves a little to be desired. It just feels a bit like a golf course club house, which I guess is what it becomes in the summer. All around a good place, but not as good as Moody's downtown.

Great restaurant in Truckee, albeit a bit out of the way. Great place to go out for something special, sit outside in the evening, with a blanket wrapped around you. Or just for a beer and a burger in the pub.
Most food I had was great, from lowly Mac & Cheese (yum, with goat cheese, so good) to short ribs, halibut, chicken. Great and friendly service, too. And nice specials, a burger and beer happy hour, and a no corkage Tuesday. Ok, gotta stop, heading out there now! -

Nice decor and spacious restaurant. We sat in the bar and enjoyed the Olympics on their two big screen TVs while eating some fairly tasty food. The food we did have was priced well and the bartender was friendly and quick to offer refills which is a plus. Worth a visit, but would not cross town to get over here. It is a bit out of the way.

We live here in TD and this is the best place to eat in all of Truckee...the Chef only uses fresh, seasonal, sustainable(i hate that word) ingredients for absolutely every dish he prepares...My husband and I love the summer watermelon salad and salmon club sandwiches...we can walk from home though the golf course under the stars...the patio dining is very nice and reminds me of home (Silverado Country Club in Napa before it became pretentious) The service is amazing! We love going to watch basketball or football games and dining at the bar...great happy hour...we love the fish taco's or Asian wrap...yum! Really casual and informal..summertime is the best time to go and spend several hours trying the small plates! The desserts are really grand! I think it is better than any other downtown eatery...and you won't have the Truckee PD pulling you over to SNIFF your breath..so annoying! BEST part of all...NO DOGS allowed...we are NOT dog people...and most eateries in town are dog friendly...Since we don't own a dog we don't enjoy having them present while i dine...

This place is great. We go there a lot with the family. Recently I had the hamburger which was really good and their fries are awesome. My kids also love the sliders. This time I tried the spring roll which my sister said was to die for. It was really good, but instead of two big spring rolls, maybe they should make it as 4 medium size ones so it is easier to share.

4 stars for ambient, 2.5 stars for food quality / taste, 2 stars for price.
We had the watermelon salad and it was great, but after that everything else was very ordinary. We order the grill spring roll and the braise ribs, both taste very home-made - a nicer way to say that I can make better food at my place. The "chocolate soufle cake" sounds fancy, but it was no different than a chocolate lava cake that you can have anywhere else. I was upset with their use of the term "soufle" which is ultimate decieving.
The bill came out to be over 125 for two, we order one glass of wine each. With that price, I can have better food anywhere else in Reno / south Tahoe. I understand it is located in Truckee, but 4 1/2 stars rating was not justisfy.
