We were in search of a place to stay that was rustic and offered internet connection somewhere within driving distance of Pullman for our annual family vacation (long story).

Our family (10 adults/teens) booked Cabin #3 and Penthouse Rm 42.

The cabin I would probably give 5 stars to.  It's comfortably rustic with glossy wood paneling and comforts of home (reclining overstuffed chairs, full kitchen, etc.) and slept 6 just fine.  No internet connection at the cabin and it's located next to the resort and further away from the highway.   Maid service is available, however you have to call the resort to remind them to remove the garbage, bring towels, etc.   Nice lawn strectches down to Lake Pend Oreille.

NOTE:  I would not recommend cabins 1 or 2 unless you don't mind being in the parking lot located very close to Highway 95.

The resort has a beautiful lobby--for only being two years old, I'm impressed with the character.  What the photos on the website don't show you is that the resort is a short away from Highway 95--a very busy road.

The penthouse is probably 3.75-4 star.  The room itself is nice--very large at just over 1000 feet.   It has a queen (or king?) bed and a sofa sleeper.   It's large enough that you could have a roll away brought in if you needed to.    The main bed and pillows are probably some of the most comfortable I have ever slept on.

The kitchen is funky.  Beautiful finishes, very large--would be great for entertaining...it has a full size fridge, sink but no stove.  There appears to be a countertop where a stove was to go at one point in time (or perhaps in the future) and it has a coffee pot that only makes 2 small cups at a time (the cabin had a full size coffee pot).

We had to request several times to have the deck cleaned.  It was very buggy and full of spider webs.  The front desk clerk tried to tell us that this is how the deck looks all the time and that it was just cleaned.   After serveral request, they did send a nice gentleman up to clean it and the clerk called to apologize (must have heard from the person who cleaned that it was overdue for a cleaning).   Every day we had to request the back deck to be cleaned--and for what you pay for that room (about $400 a night) I would expect the deck to be swept at least once a day, if not twice (if the bugs and spiderwebs are so bad at Sandpoint).

The room had ethernet internet access and they have a nice office space (open above the lobby looking out into lake in a very cozy atmosphere) with wi-fi and computer available.

There are bike and kayak rentals available.  Our teens had plenty of things to keep them entertained.

Overall I recommend staying here--I think the small issues we experienced are probably from this being a newer resort.

The Lodge at Sandpoint is a fantastic place to stay if you are visiting Sandpoint, Idaho: cozy, warm, and extremely charming.

The rooms have nice fireplaces, impressive in-room kitchens (microwave, fridge, cutting block, wine glasses, etc), large bathrooms with double showers, balconies overlooking the lake and the mountains, flat screen televisions, extremely comfortable beds and pillows, and in-room ether-net internet access.  The only issue I can find to nitpick is that the continental breakfast offered very little variety - still easily as good as anything at a traditional national chain.

Also, I'm impressed that in-room extras are reasonably priced.  There are two bottles of wine left in my room at only $20 each.  Cokes in the refrigerator are $1.50.  They offer DVDs to rent at the front desk for a price of 2 for $3.  While, these prices are certainly not cheap - they are far better than the rip-off prices at most hotels.

I must admit, I was less than thrilled about traveling to some remote village in Idaho for work.  However, I've been pleasantly surprised - the people have been extremely friendly, my hotel is fantastic, and I've been enjoying surprisingly good food around town.  I'd not be disappointed if I had to return.
