Dogs or not, this place rocks!
We used to camp at this lake as kids, so when we were looking for a place to hold our father's 70th birthday party, we of course started with the Lake County area.
We found Blue Lakes Lodge and spoke with the owners about our desire to make a weekend out of the event.
The staff was phenomenal, the rooms beautiful, the grounds pristine, and the event room fabulous! The staff took care of everything, from the cooking serving to the clean up after the event. Everyone was super nice and we have all decided this is where mom's 70th should be held next year. :)
Even the owner's husband hooked us up with a tour of the lake for a small group of us in honor of dad's day.
We love this place and we'll be back!

Our friends have been to Blue Lakes many times and stayed at Pine Acres. Since we have a dog and couldnt get a sitter on short notice we booked our stay at Lodge at Blue Lakes. We are glad we did.
We stayed in room 7 with a kitchenette which was handy since there are no restaurants within walking distance. The lodge did have coffee, juice and cereal but after swimming and kayaking you kind of want more food. The small kitchen had a 4 burner electric stove and oven, compact frig, microwave. The room was comfortable and clean. Bed was slightly harder than I'm used to but I slept well. There is slight road noise but it didnt bother me a bit though I'm a light sleeper.
Our room looked over the lake and the lounge chairs on the lawn were comfy. The other guests were all very quiet and the lodge is more of an adult setting than the other resorts across the way Pine Acres was crawling with kids. Nice if you have kids.
Sylvia the manager checked to see we had our continental breakfast before putting it up. She offered biscuits and gravy on Monday but we had to pack up early.
Blue lakes is beautiful and clean. Excellent swimming. The docks at the lodge made it easy to check out a kayak. I saw a guest catch a nice sized trout and use the fish cleaning facility right there at the lodge.

My wife and I, and our dog, spent Labor Day weekend at the Lodge at Blue Lakes. All in all it was a great place to stay!
The price was reasonable. Average rate was $140/night (they counted Sunday night as a weeknight, even on a holiday weekend. bonus!).
The setting was gorgeous. The lakefront room we stayed in opened 20 feet from the lake. The lake itself was very clean and I spent a lot of time swimming and kayaking. Kayaks are provided free - big plus! Although it would be nice if they could just leave the paddles by the dock instead of having to check them out from the office every time but I imagine that's an insurance thing. There were a bunch of rope swings around the lake which was fun too. There was very little development around most of the lake (most of it private homes) so it was very serene and quiet.
The room was fine and it was clean, but the bed was hard as a rock. I even pulled up the sheets to see what kind of mattress it was and found a foam egg crate so clearly we weren't the first to complain. The entire room was furnished with IKEA so it did feel a little like staying in an IKEA show room.
It was perfect for traveling with a dog. The lakeside area is nice and grassy and is great for having your dog off leash. It's also fun because it was a good way to meet and chat with many friendly dog-owner guests.
The owners were very nice and great hosts. They even took us out on an evening boat cruise to the far side of Blue Lakes.
On the minus side:
It's situated next to a pretty busy highway. I definitely recommend a lakeside room.
The (free) breakfast is marginal. Just some miniature muffins and donettes from the convenience store next door (I'm guessing), plus a few hardboiled eggs. Neither tasty nor sufficient. There are no restaurants or diners nearby so this is pretty much it unless you want to drive a bit.
Some other reviews said breakfast was delivered to your door. This was not the case when we were there so I asked the owner. She said they only do that if there are a small number of guests.
The entire property is fenced in against the lake except one large breezeway that leads out to the parking lot and highway. A couple times our dog ran out and I had to quickly chase him down. If the owners would just put a gate there the entire place would be completely perfect for an off-leash dog.
The area in general does not have a lot going on as far as restaurants, night life, etc. and all are at least a 15 minute drive away (farther if you're going to Clear Lake). Best to go here if you just want to lay low for a few days and hang out by the lake reading a book.
There's a very good chance we'll be back next summer!

I found the Lodge at Blue Lakes online and was really surprised by how beautiful the rooms looked on their website. I called and confirmed that the room in the picture was the one that we would actually get and they verified that indeed it was. It was only $120 for a Saturday night for their Deluxe King room, so we decided to take a gamble and drive the 2hrs and 45 minutes from the peninsula to Upper Lake. It's a really nice drive through the Golden Gate and Marin. You take 101 the whole way and then take 20 and you're there, so it's really simple to get there, just a bit of a long drive. There were parts of the drive that reminded me of Yosemite. Our room, it was absolutely beautiful... King size poster bed, travertine tile throughout, 2 person jacuzzi tub (outside of the bathroom), 2 person shower, TV w/ DVD player and satellite. It was gorgeous. I was so surprised! Then, you walk out the back door and the lake is there in all it's beauty. They have cute little chair sets outside so you can sit on your "back porch" and take in the beauty of the lake. I heard that they rent out kayaks for free to go explore the lake during the warmer months. It was a bit chilly, but the lake was beautiful. They even deliver breakfast to your room at 9am. It was a great stay and I will DEFINITELY be going back.
