One word: YUMMY! I started with the small Leaning Pear salad and it was perfect: romaine and mixed greens, goat cheese, spiced pecans and pear slices, with a light vinaigrette dressing. Then I thoroughly enjoyed the Texas Pecan and Black Currant Tuna Salad on marbled rye. OMG that was the BEST marbled rye bread I have ever had; it was so fresh and it tasted as great as it looked. The unsweetened blackberry iced tea was refreshing and with the perfect hint of flavor; I had two refills.
Cute outdoor patio overlooking the woods. Quaint inside if you can't get an outside table. The pear art work on the walls and the pear scented soap in the spotless ladies room enhanced the general theme.
Touristy little Central Texas towns don't tend to have the best food, and on the occasion that they do, it's usually still heavy on the fried, the cheese-covered, and the overly sweet.
Wimberly, luckily, has an exception to this general rule - The Leaning Pear. Tucked away on a side street near (but not on) the main square, the Leaning Pear is a bit off the touristy center of town, but it is worth seeking out if you want a flavorful, light lunch to revive you after a morning of shopping for gingham dress-wearing duck-related merchandise.
On a recent Wednesday we arrived right at noon, and the place was packed. We were not able to get a table outside on the big patio deck, but as it was pretty warm, a seat inside the old renovated house was preferable anyway, where we got a table within a minute or two. One nice touch - over the fireplace in the main room was a lovely painting of a pear tree in a simple primitive style.
Spouse and I split the house salad (greens, pecans, goat cheese and pear in a light vinaigrette), a large gazpacho, and a grilled pork panini, which came with home-made potato chips. The salad was perfect, the gazpacho was cool and refreshing, and the panini was flavorful, although it could have used a little more pork. Portions were sizable without being overwhelming. Total price was about $25, which I thought was quite reasonable given the quality of the food.
Leaning Pear will get my business whenever I'm in the area.
Feeling the need for some food therapy today, I dropped by The Leaning Pear. I'd read the good reviews, and was keen to see whether the place lived up to them. So, if you are a reader of exceptionally short attention span, here's the review for you:
Yes.
For those of you with more tenacity: I was immediately greeted warmly upon my entry and offered my choice of seats. I picked a place outside were I could watch a bit of Wimberley go by, as well as enjoy a view of their garden. After a bit of discussion of the pros and cons of the various items with the extremely helpful server, I settled on iced tea (a hibiscus, mango, and black tea blend), a Black Bean soup and the special of the day: a cashew/basil pesto pasta dish topped with a wheel of goat cheese mixed with citrus zest, coated with bread crumbs and fried. The soup was solid, the tea excellent, and the entree amazing. The goat cheese was the nicest I've ever had, and the pasta was savory and quickly devoured.
The place itself is small, a bit quaint, and quite comfortable and pleasant. The combination of terrific wait staff and the wizards who are evidently working in the kitchen make it a place well worth repeat visits. I'll be dragging my friends by, but only the ones I especially like, because I don't want to have to compete for a table with the rest.
Rooster Sr's Recipe for Valentines - For Valentines day; my thought process doubles and maybe then some. I had reservations at Clay Pit and Roy's. I strived for something more intimate. My mind drifted towards close to home and it paid off. I called the Leaning Pear in Wimberley and canceled the other contenders.
We arrived a tad early to a table that opened in minutes. Our usual and exceptional server made us feel at home as we selected our options. I've been waiting to have dinner year for the better part of two years. So here's the score ahead of time and some cliff notes of on some reasons to visit this amazing little place

This place prides itself on the best salad in Central Texas. My Organic locally grown Greens with the house accompaniments rocked as did Jenny's potato and leek soup. A generous sampling of Fried Oysters arrived afterwards and our server noticed my wife's "Oyster" look and delivered a salad. I enjoyed the crisp cornmeal batter as well as the Cilantro Jalapeno Aoli.
An Amuse Bouche of Herbed Goat Cheese, Beer Bread, and Beets followed and our entrees were fired at the server's request. My Braised Ribs were stellar with the Truffled Taters, Haricot Vert, and 5 Mushroom Ragout. Jenny's Pistachio Salmon was elegant with blood orange, and Celeriac, Dill, Caper slaw was flawless.
We fought over dessert as well as the check. I won both; successfully chosing the prize dessert of the century. Described as Sticky Toffee, the moist cake gave me images of some factory with me standing under a giant Werther's Original nozzle of the flavorful sauce. Jenny took a bite and wanted to trade.
The Leaning Pear hits my heart with its golden arrow on this trip. Stellar service, atmosphere, and food shows I've still got some skills in the journey we call love.

Wow! Exactly what I wanted. Delicious food with a calming and friendly atmosphere (like Wimberley itself). I had the Leaning Pear House Salad and the Caprese Panini. Out of this world!
So clean so fresh so delicious. You can definitely tell the chef thought out the food and not just slammed things together.
Highly recommend. I must-go to!

My husband and I decided to take a day trip to Wimberley during spring break. I read some reviews looking for a restaurant to visit for lunch and found high praises for The Leaning Pear. It really is lovely. We definitely weren't disappointed. (I wish I could say the same for Wimberley in general.) The restaurant is quaint with lots of character. They have a garden out back where they grow their own ingredients, which is visible from the outdoor waiting area and the patio. There is a fabulous covered patio with ceiling fans which is a perfect spot to enjoy an al fresco meal on a nice day. There was a cheerful sunflower on each table and the overall atmosphere was friendly and pleasant.
The menu provides only salad and sandwich options, but they do these two things very well. My husband started out with the spicy sweet potato soup of the day. It was wonderful, with a smooth creamy texture and fresh flavor with the perfect amount of seasoning. The fresh bread used for their sandwiches is delicious. I had the Grilled Chicken Club which was good, but after stealing a bite of my hubby's Slow-Braised Cuban Style Pulled Pork Sandwich, I had a case of food envy. The pulled pork sandwich was definitely the star! It was flavorful and very juicy. The sole sandwich side offered is fresh kettle chips that are some of the best I've had. They were thick and very crispy with a good saltiness (unlike the oily, soggy version that I've unfortunately encountered too often with fresh kettle chips.)
Another highlight of our visit was attentive service. The waitress for the patio came out and offered us a drink in the waiting area because we had been waiting for awhile. (Which wasn't unexpected to us at lunch time on a gorgeous day.) She offered to put in our order while we waited for a patio table, but since we weren't in a hurry, we didn't mind to wait. The staff recognized that we had a bit of a wait (maybe 20-30 minutes, but we were enjoying the sunshine and weren't watching our watches, so I'm not entirely sure) and apologized on several occasions for our wait. The staff did a great job of refilling drinks and we were really pleased with the overall experience!
Hands down this is the best restaurant in Wimberley. All the sandwiches are good and everything is made from fresh ingredients which are bought locally and organically when possible. There is actually a great organic farm in Wimberley called Montessino Farms and the Leaning Pear supports them. If you are lucky you might be there on a day when the special is chicken pot pie or meatloaf because the owner and chef Matt really does these two items right. I have always been pleased when dining here. They get really busy for lunch and parking can become limited quickly so get there early or call ahead if you can. The Pear does not as of yet serve alcohol so bring your own wine or beer. They serve a simple migas stack or quiche for brunch as well as there full menu on Sundays from 11-3 which I strongly suggest.
Last night we went back to The Leaning Pear for their Valentine's Day dinner. For a ludicrously low price for the quality of food we were served, we were treated to what was perhaps the best dinner we've ever eaten in our entire lives. I've previously written that if The Leaning Pear were a man I would ravage him nightly. Well, last night I was ravaged by The Leaning Pear, and it was amazing. I felt like I needed a cigarette after that meal, and I don't even smoke. Absolutely everything they served last night fell into the category of utter perfection, from the fried oysters with cilantro aioli appetizer to the pistachio-crusted salmon with celery root slaw and blood oranges entree. However, the absolute crowning glory of the evening was the Spanish churros with fondue chocolate and strawberries dessert. It was a Valentine's Day dessert exclusive and it was the sexiest little dessert I've ever eaten in my life. Hear me now, The Leaning Pear. If you don't add this to your regular dessert rotation I will be forced to stage a sit-in of your restaurant until the change is made. The sacrifice on my part will be great, but the cause is too worthy not to take up.

I too adore The Leaning Pear. It's a bit difficult to find as it's not exactly on the main drag but it is really terrific. My wife and I were recommended the restaurant by locals who said the food was prepared fresh and the staff would be helpful and friendly. They were more than right - I had the Cuban Style Pulled Pork sandwhich which I can honestly say was the best damned pulled pork sandwhich, uhm, ever! The flavor was warm (can a flavor be "warm"? I think so) smokey and the helping plentiful. My wife had a cobb salad that was bountiful and looked like a magazine cover of freshness monthly. This place was fantastic. The staff was helpful but never intrusive. A true 5 star place. I hope your experience is as wonderful as ours was. http://www.leaningpear.../
My new favorite restaurant when dining in Wimberley! The restaurant is very welcoming. Lots of locals.
The menu is very unique/gourmet and I had a hard time making up my mind. I had the Caprese Panini and soup combo (Tomato-Bleu Cheese), both were delightful. My husband had the House Salad and soup and he was very happy.
My children thoroughly enjoyed their grilled cheese sandwiches, which were on some very tasty thick bread.
We can't wait until our next visit!
I was skeptical when we walked in and saw that their menu was composed of salads and sandwiches- I wanted a restaurant, not a deli- but I was delighted by the specials that they served that evening. We started out with dessert, the sticky toffee cake, which was truely wonderful. that was followed by a bowl of their tomato maytag bleu cheese soup, which warmed me perfectly, and left a beautiful tang in my mouth from the cheese. My husband had a roasted duck breast in a wild grape sauce, on a bed of barley and carmelized onions. The duck was amazingly tender and flavorful, as was my chicken, which was served kind of spanish/morraccan style, in a tomato stew with chorizo and veggies over large couscous. Though we did not get a salad, we saw them, and they are truely a thing of beauty. Next time we're in the area, we will be visiting again!
What a great spot in Wimberley- if only they were open for dinner daily! Great seasonal, revolving menu & have yet to have a salad here I didn't love. Charming stone cottage & patio area. BYOB and linger- but def. come early if you're planning on dinner...I've yet to be there when menu items didn't sell out quickly.
This is a girlie girl must! The Leaning Pear is everything a girl could want in a quaint little package with lots and lots of parking! This is the place to have your girls day out lunches, or maybe take your mom. The food is uniquely gourmet with a beautiful presentation and perfect portions! The only down side might be weird hours and they are closed on Tuesday.
