This place is right up my alley.  No glamor, no scene (the hipsters don't even seem to have discovered it yet).  Just GREAT food.  After a few days traveling through CT and the eastern end of Long Island eating as much seafood as possible, my friend took me here saying it would blow away all of the other lobster rolls we had tried.

She did not lie!  We had been to Lunch, Cyril's, South Edison and the Clam Bar out on L.I. as well as a few other spots...not even close!  The Lazy Lobster was cheaper than these places and in my opinion, MUCH MUCH better.  The lobster rolls were just that...a nice piece of buttery baguette (I had always preferred a hot dog roll before this...but now I am more enlightened) COVERED with huge chunks of fresh moist lobster.  Not lobster salad...just whole claws, whole knuckles and big pieces of tail.

OK...so I am from SF.  I'm sure readers from the north east all have their favorite spots.  I know I will tell my friends, when they are in the neighborhood, to skip the rest and come here if they want real lobster, not just some shredded lobster salad stuff.  It ain't a pretty joint, but you can sit outside and it's byob.  Like I said...my kind of place!

I'm torn about the Lazy Lobster.

I purchased the http://livingsocial.com deal their were advertising.

Their commercial and advertising is very deceitful.  The restaurant is dirty and their were flies all over the place.  The garbage can was so vile I didn't want to lift the lid to throw away my trash.

Normally I would run away but I was with a friend who told me to suck it up.  I tried to wipe down the table outside but it was impossible to clean.  It was ground in filth.  We brought some beers so we cracked them open while we waited for our food.

What looked like two homeless women with 1/2 pints of bottom barrel vodka sat at the table next to us.  Never ordering food, just drinking.  They started arguing and screaming at the riff raff across the street who were having a dance party at the adjacent corner.  A drunken hobo dance party.   Our bums thought the bums across the street were being too loud.

The food was fantastic.  We got the crab cakes and the lobster rolls.

If you look past the filthy restaurant, the local bums, the seedy neighborhood and the dirty tables.  The food is tasty.

I'd probably never go back, I'd personally rather an OK lobster roll somewhere less gross.   I also think they were making their soup out of one of the bays of their three bay sink.  But that could have been my imagination getting the best of me.

Solid 3 star place.  We had a full rack of ribs and I loved them!  My bf still maintains that the ones from "Taste of Charleston" in Norwalk were so good that all others pale in comparison.  For this place, the meat was super tender and I loved the molasses in the sauce so I give it a thumbs up.  My other friends had lobster and a lobster roll.  Yes, it's a bit overpriced, but if you BYOB it totally makes up for it.  No corkage fee!!!  Also, the outdoor seating is very chill.  it's a shame outdoor seating season is about to be over.  Enjoy it while you can!

I should have realized that this place might not have been the best choice for dinner, but I fell for the positive reviews by my fellow yelpers and thought that, what the hey?, sometimes divey places have good food.
    Wrong!
The positive reviews of this place must have been written by relatives--my experience was awful! Naughty yelpers!

The lobster roll I had was mingy and incredibly overpriced.
For $18 and change I got a grinder roll that had the smallest portion of flavorless lobster I've ever seen in a lobster roll. I was SO hopeful when I saw the oversized roll, until I saw that the sandwich was all bread with just a tiny amount of lobster filling.
There are too many places that serve better lobster rolls in the area: 7 Seas in Milford; Turks, Jimmies, and even Chicks in West Haven to name a few that have a greater lobster to bread ratio and use fresher tasting lobster to boot.

Funny, when I went to Savin Rock Roasting Company, I saw the ribs on their menu.  A little whisper in my ear said...."wait...wait my friend".    Apparently, it was a Lazy lobster whispering, and he was telling me to wait till today.  **smile**

The Southern CT Yelp group set up a meet up at Milford's Lazy Lobster.  While I'm not a huge seafood fan, I saw they had BBQ, Jen and I decided to give it a shot.

The way it was described, I was expecting a tiny shack.   The GPS bee-otch, told us we were there, but we didn't believe her.  The place is kind of hard to notice, in a large array of shops @ Milford's Walnut Beach.

It is a tiny, unassuming, one man operation.    He cooks, he serves, buses, and he reads the sports page when page he's got nothing else to do.

A small, well rehearsed menu, with a seasonal menu with lots of fresh seafood specials.  The small group of us had just about everything on our table.   I ordered the ribs.

Now I'm no rib slouch.  I have had them at the major chains (Tony Romas, Chilis, Ruby Tuesdays, Smokin Bones, and Apple-barfs, etc,   Even the strange, tangy sauced mystery McRib.)  I had BBQ all over CT, including Big Bubbas,  Russels Ribs,  and Little Marks.
The lazy lobster's  were the best ribs I have had in CT by far!

They were memphis dry rub style, with a tasty chili BBQ sauce on the side.  The meat was very tender slowly charred to perfection.  Look up "fall off the bone" in Encyclopedia Barbequeica and you'd see a picture of these ribs.  This is about as good as BBQ is going to get in New England, and that is fine by me!

Jen got the boneless rib sandwich called "Ribby Roll", which I thought would be some tiny sad, McRib look alike.  What Jen ended up with was like a rich rib meat chili in fresh bread roll.  Darn tasty and fargin huge!

The seafood looked fresh, and as the name suggests you can put a hit out on a lobster and the owner/waiter/cook will make it for you.  I had the clam chowder, and I enjoyed it a lot.

It is little pricey, as most good seasonal places are but well worth it! Close to work.  I can't wait till I have an extra 20 spot in my wallet so I can pick me up some Friday take out! Highly recommended!

Lobster is lobster, it's always good.  What makes this place stand out is the ribs.  For me it's all about the ribs - so good you'll want to punch yourself in the face for not getting your ass there sooner.  It's in Milford, in a cool spot and Walnut Beach Creamery is just across the street.  As good as Ash Creek Saloon's any day.  The owner is a real salt and cool if you want to bring an alcoholic beverage in to enjoy with your meal.

And did I mention the ribs?

I don't have much of a review to write seeing that Mike has already covered all of the bases :)

I had the ribby roll which was much bigger then I had expected.  It was really tasty but next time I will definitely have to order the ribs.  They looked insanely good and according to Mike, they were!

After a trek down there, Randy S., Lawrence W. and I hit the Lazy Lobster, only to find, of course (this being NH county) that they were out of lobster. I can't review the lobster, because they were out. A place called the Lazy Lobster, did not have any lobster. Okay, okay, okay.

    So, a few things...

    1) This place is very casual. Some plastic tables inside, some plastic tables outside. A cooler that "doesn't work", plastic utensils. I wasn't sure about that going in.

    2) You order from the counter and wait for the large proprietor to make your shit, which is an excellent system, because he's genial and rad in general.

    3) The guy, however, got our order wrong and it took so long for him to make it, the wait to have it redone seemed interminable and not worth it.

However, in spite of all that, it was a pretty great experience.

I had a half-chicken (which I hate half-chickens) and so did Randy S. Randy S. swore it was really quite good and I hate half-chickens, so I can't say. Lawrence W. had an amazing 'chicken roll' that I ended up with half of.

The chicken roll consisted of a toasted, cut baguette (pretty amazing), chicken chopped off one of the half chickens, by hand, while you wait (pretty amazing), potatoes (awesome), corn (corn), and BBQ sauce (which was great).

The combination was stellar... Lawrence W. and I both agreed we would go back just for the chicken roll. Amazing stuff.

Given the overall quality of the food, which was high, I would have no doubt that the lobster would be really good.

We tried to take it to go and eat on the beach, but were attacked by millions of New Haven County gnat-fleas. The worst kind.

Good lobster, great ribs.  A little pricey but they accept credit cards.

BYOB and they give you an ice bucket!  (pssst, we brought Lipton Green Tea as well as a small bottle of Chardonnay - they both fit!)

I really don't want to write this review, because everyone has had such great things to say. Anyway- I got take out last weekend and I was really disappointed. I got the lobster bisque and the crab cakes. the crab cakes we abysmal, I really have never had worse. They had celery instead of green peppers,  the crab was not in lump form but separated all through the cake. The seasoning was weird, kind of like- and I hate to say it- like stuffing. It really tasted like crab with stove top- pretty gross, I only got through a quarter of a cake. The bisque was good, but I got really sick after eating my food.

Great Ribs..... at the Lazy Lobster?  It's kind of like going to get great Ice Cream at a Mongolian Barbecue joint.... or getting your taxes done at Jiffy Lube.  But don't trouble yourself with such trivial wonderments, just get in your car and go there and eat the best ribs you will ever have in your life.  Sweet Lord almighty, those succulent, tasty ribs.  People, trust me on this.... they're the best ribs you'll have anywhere.  And I'm an original southerner.  They're amazing.  "Fall off the bone" is a cliche that gets overused, and I think I'm going to start suing places that throw this terminology around loosely.  These ribs truly do fall off the bone.... very tender and juicy.  The portion is just staggering.... you better bring your A-game.  Also, the barbecue sauce is simply phenomenal.  I could taste the brown sugar in it, and the sauce reduced in lots of places, so it's almost like molasses-like in spots.  And they bring you out extra sauce.... I may incorporate this stuff into the ol' bedroom routine, it's that good.  Perhaps a bit pricy, but I would have paid a small fortune for these things.

I used to think that Outback's ribs were pretty decent... and they are.  I also enjoyed the non-babyback variety I had at Savin Rock Roasting Company.  But these are definitely in another league.  Nothing against Chili's.... I have eaten there many a time.  I generally like chains from time to time.  But the next time I frequent a Chili's and hear someone order the ribs there, I will grab that person by their shirt, give them one of those Three-Stooges-style paintbrush slaps to the face and ask them what the hell they are doing.  Okay, maybe that's a little harsh... especially if they don't know about the Lazy Lobster.  But anyone who does know and gets their ribs somewhere else deserves to get hit on the head with a mallet.  A big ol' mallet.

I look forward to going there a second time and sampling the Lobster Roll.  I saw them preparing one and it looked amazing.  As has been said, the atmosphere is a bit quaint, and we were certainly warm on what was a warm summer's day.  But we stopped by a package store on the way over, grabbed a 6 pack of Magic Hat Number 9, and within minutes, we were in rib heaven.  We also had some of the best Corn in the Cob you can get around here.  And all the wet naps we needed, and we needed a lot of them (I think I ended up with barbecue sauce on my shoe.... now that's the sign of a good meal!).   And the people brought us our food with a smile, and we got asked by 3 different people how everything was, to which I told them something I'm sure they've heard a million times, that those were the best ribs we've ever had.  But you could tell they were proud of what they did, and were genuinely glad to hear validation.  Not the stock "did you enjoy your meal" you get from the gum-chewing cashier while she's swiping your Visa.

So I'm not sure why a place that seems to have lobster as its selling point makes such kick-ass ribs.  But who cares.... they just do.  And it's good to know that my wife and I have a place we can drag our rib-loving relatives too.  Forget Pepe's, Louis Lunch, any of those other supposed culinary landmarks you drag out-of-towners to.  Everyone loves ribs... well, nearly everyone... and there's just no place else you should get them from.  Period.

Poor, poor vegetarians.... I admire your strength and determination, and your ability to conform in a world that's so challenging.  But when it comes to something like this, you just don't know what you're missing!

Other reviewers have mentioned the BBQ, which unfortunately I have yet to try, so this review is solely for the seafood.

I'd give this about 2.75 stars...

I've been here a few times over the years, and unfortunately I think the quality has been steadily decreasing.  The seafood (for the most part) is fresh, but the attention to detail is missing.  Lobster rolls were made with poorly cleaned meat -- I had the digestive vein still in the tail on my roll, and a friend of mine had clumps of roe, as well as some black gunk.  I know some people enjoy the roe, but it just appeared unappetizing and wasn't what we expected on the roll.  Also, the amount of lobster we got for the price was pathetic.  Finally, it was thrown on top of a buttered piece of bread -- not sandwiched in a roll.  I know they used to toast delicious french baguettes and actually construct a sandwich, but somewhere between last year and this one, they stopped making sandwiches and started making soggy lobster bruschetta...  Maybe I'm just extra sensitive, but I was really offended that the person who made the rolls didn't take the time to make sure the meat was cleaned!

The cajun shrimp are delicious -- highly recommend them.  They're a mess, but well worth it.  The steamed clams are decent, though some of them seemed a bit suspect (not fully cooked, or maybe not fresh?).  Not something you want to worry about with seafood...

As for the coleslaw, skip it.  It tastes like nothing.

I love supporting local restaurants, especially ones that specialize in two of my favorite cuisines -- seafood and BBQ.  I hope there's an improvement in the quality, because at the crazy expensive prices, I don't think this place will stay around much longer without it.

Very mellow atmosphere. Great for take out or take outside. I've heard many good things about the Lazy Lobster but had never tried it until this weekend. Its located on beachy East Broadway in Milford and I had the best lobster roll I have ever had!  I was apprehensive when I saw the Lobster Roll was $15.95 and actually uttered the words "this better be the best lobster roll ever" and it was!! It was also accompanied by a side of balsamic/mayo coleslaw that was to die for. The bun wasnt a hot dog bun at all, it was a crusty, buttery piece of greatness! The lobster meat in the roll was huge and succulent. The steamers my friends had were huge and they spent the meal trying to figure out what the broth was made of since it was so great.  Many people came in ordering live lobster platters and RIBS of all things! I've also been told the Ribs are great. Service was with a smile and I will definately be back. Cant beat the fact that the Milford Ice Cream Creamery is across the street if you leave room for dessert.

Had lunch at the Lazy Lobster first the first time last week.  Ribs are excellent , but pricey at $11.99ish for a 1/2 rack.  Full rack I think was $20.99.  (Don't bother with the paper menu, as prices are printed lower than what they really are.  There's a reason they're not posting menu prices on their website.  That price fact alone may keep some potential patrons away)  Lobster roll was very good, but small.  What really makes it is the crusty buttered roll it's on.  Very little lobster meat though.
My husband had the Ribby Roll.  He liked it very much.  That was around $10 and was a huge sandwich.  (Although it was not as described on the paper menu)  All in all, we spent $40 even for a Ribby Roll, Lobster Roll, and a 1/2 rack of ribs.  Lobster this summer is not in great demand, therefore I've heard the prices have come way down.  Not the case here.  I could easily recreate that at home.  Now, back to the ribs -- they are definitely worth going for.  You don't even need to bbq sauce that comes on the side.  The sprinkling of sea salt they add makes it a real treat.
