Vegetarians & vegans, beware!

Think huge slabs of perfectly cooked meat plus a buffet of cold salads, bread, potatoes, and rice. All with a glass of wine included. L & L took me to lunch at this Argentinian Steak House. Actually, they were having a working, expense account lunch, and I was somebody's +1. Happy to be that. Happy to be that. I sampled the skirt steak, short ribs, spare ribs, chorizo, stuffed chicken breast, grilled eggplant, grilled corn, and grilled provolone. I also had the cold salad bar salads, a side of mashed potatoes, some of L & L's fries (they were covered in chimichurri), bread, and two glasses of tinto to wash it all down. It was an excellent meal. Pleasant service, although our server was struggling with English (glad I was with L & L... fluent Spanish speakers), neat, clean restroom, and (even at lunchtime) lively atmosphere. I'd go back. And if you are ever in Sunrise, Florida, near Sawgrass Mills Mall, I highly recommend you try this place. You really do need The Knife.

There are some significant positives (depending upon your point of view) and a lot more negatives for this Steakhouse.  I would really encourage anyone who can afford $25/person more (ie:  $50 total per person) for the meal to go right down the street to Fogo Vivo or to head down Las Olas to my all-time favorite meat palace in FLL:  Chima.

I've eaten at this place probably 8-10 times, because my colleagues just can't find a "better" option for a late lunch or someone wants meat and doesn't want to pay .. or we're just close by and give up searching for something better.  (ie mall shopping and it's time for dinner, etc)  So, I'd note that my experiences are over several visits and nothing changes.

Positives:  free bottle of wine per person, per meal.  Now, that's a pretty good value.  Granted, it's house red wine, but I recall that it's from Argentina.  Not bad, not bad.  You don't want wine?  How bouts 2 draft beers or soft drinks?  Also included!

Positive:  The service can sometimes be good.  The waiters and waitresses can be pretty attentive and sometimes even make funny jokes and can hang out and chat with you.

Positive:  live soccer matches.  If you like S. American soccer, pick your favorite upcoming game time and it'll be broadcast.

BIGGEST con:  the meat is low, low quality.  No matter how attentive the cook is you're not going to somehow take low quality meat and "viola!" turn it into something tasty and tender.  It's not tasty.  It's not tender, ever.  If you must, do the sausages, the skirt, the fish and get the rest rare, so you can get it down the gullet.

SECOND biggest con:  the salad bar is BAD.  There's not much of a selection for a meat emporium, when you've been to Fogo do Chao, Porcao, Chima, etc.  (If you don't know what those last places are, you might do ok here....)  I'm talking here of a lot of macaroni salad, some lettuce but not a lot of variety and some carrots... ouch

Con:  the desserts don't taste good.  And I seem to recall that they cost extra.

Now, come on - I don't mean to be unfair - this place does not pretend to be a good steakhouse and the price is significantly lower.  You're going to do a party of 4 for $100 here and at any of the majors you're going to come in at close to double that, without drinks.  Drinks at The Knife are included (what I mentioned above..)  But, the meat's bad and it makes the experience almost unbearable.  I hate eating french fries or some hearts of palm and poking sadly at my filet, only eating the sausages and chicken hearts, as they aren't tough and unchewable.  If you're desperate or just need a meat fix or haven't been to the majors, stop by.  But then do yourself a favor and go to Chima.

Word.

I like churascario's. What is that you may ask? A restaurant that
brings you meat on a giant sword. A friend of mine took my wife to
such a place in DC. She told me that he and his friend had a a song
for the place. It went, " Meat, meat meat meat. Meat meat MEAT!".

So, whenever I think of such a place I start to sing the Meat song.

It is Tuesday night. january 6. We arrive around 6:00 ish. There is a
sign out front describing the restaurant. I don't need to look at it
because I have already read the Yelp review. For $26 or so I can get
all the meat and salad I can eat. They will also throw in a bottle of
wine.

What a deal I think. Most churascario's are at least $40+ per person.

First the Bad.  The wine is corked (a wine snob term for bad).  Looking around the place it looks like the wine is stored out in the open.  In this heat that is not good and probably ruined my bottle of wine.  I figure what do I expect for included? (At least to be able to drink it).  They also have a
"premium" Malbec for $15 a bottle. This is a deal. Wow. What a bottle.
It is awesome.

The food: No dudes in Gaucho costumes with giant knives. You have to
go to the grill and tell the guys who are working their tails off what you want. They had a very nice assortment of vegetables, sausage, beef, etc. My favorites?  Vegatable: Eggplant with cheese.  Meat: Filet, Sausage and skirt steak.

Here is a tip worth your membership in Yelp.  The filet mignon is by special order only. It takes 15 minutes. I think it helps to get a really good size piece if you tip the guy and let him know you are tipping him. I ordered mine rare. It was perfectly cooked and was awesome.

Ordered a second bottle of the premium wine.  Disappointment here.  Though the wine was not cooked like the first bottle, it was clearly on the way to being bad.  I really think this is because of the way they store the wine.  I would have rated this place a 4 if the wine had been up to par.

Don't forget to save room for the dessert.  A large assortment of really good things to eat.

Are you kidding? This was friggin awesome. $30. All you can eat meat, salad, veggies, and sides, PLUS either 2 beers or a WHOLE BOTTLE of wine. There were 4 of us, and we drank 4 bottles of wine on top of all that meat. Crazy crazy meal.

Was there yesterday (Sunday) and it was amazing. What a great alternative to places like TX de Brazil, Porcao, twice as cheap (cuz its serve yourself type of place), on top of all the food at the buffet you get a bottle of wine and dessert, all for less than $30!!!!!!!!! Great variety of meats and salad bar. Meat is as good as it is in the above mentioned steakhouses. This is the spot to come and pig out and drink lots of that free wine. Im a fan and sure will be back for mo...

This place is soooo good. Just get up and start having some steak. ALL U CAN EAT! They ask you what kind of cut you want and then you tell them how you want it and there you go. They also have a little bar with different sides to go long with your steak. They have blood sausage and other stuff. It is pricey but if you have an appetite, your good. You also better beat the crowd and get there while they have all the types of cuts, don't come in last minute. Cant wait till i come home in the spring. I'm coming here again.

I just HAD to write about this place because it's freakin' fantastic and the best dinner deal you will find!  So, it's an Argentinian steakhouse... kind of similar to Espetus in San Francisco because they have every kind of meat you can imagine cooking on this huge, flaming grill, an extensive salad bar with all types of yumminess, and it's all you can eat.  Yet, a few key differences: it's buffet-style (so you have to go up to the grill & choose your meat), it's just over $20, and each buffet comes with a bottle of wine!  So, when I hit it up with 4 friends, we have 5 bottles of wine ready for consumption!  Now, maybe back in the day we could've done it but these days we don't dare try to make it to that 5th bottle... it's just nice to know that it comes with the meal!  AND, they even throw your choice of dessert at the end!  Now, I know this sounds too good to be true and this has got to be in some ghetto fabulous part of town, but it's actually in a spot done up really nice in the 'burbs.  There's another location in Hallandale Beach... I can't vouch for that one but I think it's the original.  They need to take this concept to all four corners and get one out to Cali!
