Awesome, awesome place. I have never been disappointed with the Kinsale since moving to town in June.

Black & tan chips are always a good choice, as is the turkey rachel. I want to say they recently got a new chef + staff this year, so that's why the service (and food!) has greatly improved.

I go here for a late lunch often.

Beer is a little pricier than I'm used to, but they have a good selection on tap. Next week they are getting PBR on tap for $2.50, which will be the cheapest. Excellent spirits collection too.

Also: Wednesday is free trivia night!

Solid pub food with an upscale Irish lean. The building boasts being the oldest waterfront pub in American (1799) and certainly looks/feels it. Low ceilings and exposed beams, very Dan'l Webster Innish. It is directly across from the ocean and the sunset view is great....a true seaside inn. Cozy, a little classy but mostly a pub with a great selection of Irish beers, whiskies and food. They pour an excellent Guinness.

This place is nice and has a fairly good selection of food, beer, and entertainment, especially around St. Patrick's Day.  The few times I've been here, the crowd has been of the middle-aged/older variety, but I like it because it makes it less likely that I'll run into awkward high school acquaintances and other undesirable locals.  I've read some reviews on here with negative comments about the staff, which I disagree with - I've never had a negative experience here in that regard.  Parking is kind of a pain because it's down near the water in Mattapoisett, surrounded by one-way streets, but if you're willing to walk a little bit, you can find good spots on the side streets.

Went here during the day once to have a few beers on a nice summer day. I thought it was a great little bar. Got some hot wings which didn't disappoint. I mean this is a place you'd go if you were in the area. Just a small place on the water. Great view and location. Check it out

I've eaten at the Kinsale Inn a number of times over the past couple years and was pleased with the food and service but my last visit a couple weeks ago was underwhelming at best. Everyone in our party, who had all eaten there previously, commented on how disappointed they were based on previous experiences.  Not sure if they've changed chefs or were having an "off" night but I won't be returning, for the food anyway.

The service is so very bad and so very rude that I would be hard pressed to return even if Paul Bocuse were running the kitchen. The atmosphere is quirky one side is so dark and the other is so bright and cold that it has all the warmth of an Ihop.

I was up in Marion for a wedding and the rehearsal dinner was held at the Kinsale.

The food was fantastic as was the service.  Their calamari is great and it wasn't overcooked in the least.  The remoulade dipping sauce was very tasty.  I had a chicken club which was pretty good but the chicken seemed like it was poached rather than grilled.  I thought that was slightly odd since it killed any flavor it might have had.  Everyone else in the party was talking about how good the food was as well.

The bar was nice and the bartenders made sure to pay attention to everyone, not just the ladies which is really appreciated.

It also helps that this place is pretty much right on the water, which is beautiful to say the least.

Thank you S.Q. For your review. We were thinking of trying again. Haven't been in over 2 years for all the same reasons you described. The waitstaff & "manager" treat the customers as if they are an inconvenience to them and are putting them out to serve their customers.  I noticed the new signs & read about the "changes" (a bit confusing) apparently they just have 2 names & increased the prices dramatically....I guess because the kin sale is part of a chain & the owner spends more time in maryland, they have lost touch with the locals..many people told me not worth the try because of price but since rude waitstaff still exists.... I will still be staying away & know I am not missing much. So many other great places to eat & have fun & entertainment in this area & food much better & prices are reasonable.

The Kinsdale Inn really has it all going for it; selection, atmosphere, excellent service, and location. I have not had dinner there yet but will eagerly soon. After a game of golf we stopped in for drinks at apps that were superb. They run a 1/2 price special, I am not sure the details and have a very well stocked bar with my favorite scotches. I really had a great time there and looking forward to returning. the service was excellent as well as the apps. While there I did take a gander at the menu and was really exited to try some of the entrees that looked very interesting. I will report back.

Went to the Kinsale for lunch today (8/2/11)!  DYNAMITE!!!!!!  We were comfortable seated on the porch and had a tremendous experience. The male and female server danced around each other delicately as it was a bit busy on the porch!  I had a crabcake sandwich, which was to die for.  generous portions and all condiments were provided without request!  My friend had a cobb salad with grilled shrimp.  She was excited about the salad dressing offerings, our server informed us that the majority are made in house.  what a treat? overall it was a great experience.  the food was delicious and the service even better.  Highly reccommended

I was visiting a friend in Mattapoisett, and the group of us decided to go to Kinsale Inn for dinner.  We were seated immediately by the host in the diningroom that is separate from the bar area (that area was packed!).  Once seated, we were able to order drinks, but, unfortunately, we didn't get anything for another 7-10 minutes.  When our drinks finally arrived, we were able to order our meals.  While waiting, the waitress brought us a bread basket of pre-sliced Irish soda bread and raisin bread...yum!  Both breads were great.  For my entree, I ordered the Irish Reuben, which seemed like a good idea at the time; however, when I started eating it, I realized that the bread it was made with was already soggy from the corned beef and cheese!  Sad.  Along with my reuben, I was served mashed potatoes as a side.  This meal is actually supposed to come with Irish chips, but I asked for a switch.  Unfortunately, the mashed potatoes were a little too dry and grainy for me...not as whipped and creamy as I usually like them.  I happened to eat my friend's whipped parsnips, though, and that was delicious!  The company I was with had a range of entrees that included a salad (p.s. their side salads are humungous), steak tips, and chicken parma.  They enjoyed their meals, but we all agreed that the price of the food didn't seem to match the quality.

Even though this trip was a little disappointing because of the bad service, I would return again if in the area.  Maybe next time I'd have a nicer time in the bar area.  I've also heard that their cheeseburgers are good; so I might stick to bar basics next time.

I came here with a friend last Monday night and the bar area was dead at 8:30, which is a shame because on Mon night they have a fabulous $5 burger deal: all kinds of burgers with fries, onion rings (amazing onion rings!), or a side salad.  Yes, $5!  Great deal!  In addition to Irish beers, the Kinsale Inn has local beers, like Buzzards Bay and Wachusett, on tap.
Our bartender was excellent, funny, and very on top of things.  The website says they were open until 11, but around 10 various staff (not our awesome bartender) started turning off the lights and giving us pointed looks.  Yes, we were the only people in there, but I would have preferred if someone had just said, "hi, we're going to close up soon because you are the only patrons" instead of shutting off the lights and giving us looks.
The area around the Kinsale Inn looks really cute and it seems like it'd be a great place to hang out in the summer, especially with the back patio.  I'll also definitely be back for the $5 burger deal on Monday nights!

Our family has owned a house in Mattapoisett since 1944 and the Kinsale Inn (formerly The Mattapoisett Inn) has long been a staple in our places to visit when we're here.  This establishment changed hands several years ago and ever since then, it has become less and less desirable.  We attempted to have dinner there on 7/30/11 and needless to say the entire experience was horrendous!  Now, let it be known that we were definitely at fault for part of the issues, but certainly not all of them.  We had a large party of 12 and made a reservation for which we were almost a 1/2 hour late (our fault).  Once we arrived I was greeted by the manager, who was abrupt "may I help you" and I explained that we had arrived for our dinner, knowing we were almost 1/2 hr. late.  Her response right off the bat "don't even tell me that you're the party of 16" to which I replied "yes" and her reply "well, we just broke up the table - sorry" and walked away leaving me just standing there.  WHAT???  Are you serious - that's how you're going to handle this?  I meandered back to our group and explained what had just happened.  Someone else from our group went in and attempted to rectify the situation - outcome was that they agreed to put a table back together for us in the bar right next to the band that was playing.  It was so loud that one literally couldn't speak to the person sitting next to them.  We opted to just move to another restaurant.  After much back and forth we opted to give the bar table a try as it was now almost 9 PM.  So...we get seated.  We waited for at least 10 min. for a waitress to come over and take our drink order.  Thinking that we had now put beginning of this unpleasant experience behind us - we were about to find out that this was NOT the case.  The waitress finally comes over - and SHE starts in on us..."oh, so your the party of 16 that was a 1/2 hr. late...blah, blah, blah..." she then states that she's there to take our drink order and one of our party who was seated in the middle of the table places her order...NOT!  The rude waitress immediately looks at her and says "I'm not starting with you, I'm starting here (pointing) and ending here (pointing)"!!!  ARE YOU KIDDING ME - what waitress says that to a large party???  We all did placed our drink order and after she was gone we decided that was THE FINAL STRAW - we were not staying!!  We informed the (rude) manager of what had just happened (with the rude waitress) and then we all walked out.  Needless to say we were able to get a table at Ying Dynasty (formerly The Cathay Temple) and they WERE SO ACCOMMODATING!!!  We had a phenomenal dinner and the service was outstanding!  Bottom line - the Kinsale is NOT what it used to be and after telling others about our experience - they weren't surprised.  Almost everyone stated that they've heard or know of someone who had a similar experience.  RUDE, RUDE, RUDE...don't waste your time or money cuz they apparently could care less if you're there or not.  So sad...

Waitstaff was friendly and the inn atmosphere in the village is charming and relaxing.... it transports you back in time a bit.  But the food was relatively bland. The steak tips were overcooked and covered in sauce to cover up the lack of flavor in the steak.  The shepard's pie was pretty good but again quite bland (I think my mom made it better).  The food was affordable and edible and the desserts were amazing... try the bread pudding or the gigantic piece of chocolate raspberry cake. mmm. we'd go back again but probably wouldn't order what we tried this time.
