I realize there are a lot of reviews here and adding another four star review won't help....but I want to give my take on Kati Roll.

My first time here was SEVERAL years ago, it was a cold December weekend, my friends and I were in NYC for a bachelorette party.  After a crazy night of partying at an open bar club - we headed over to Kati Roll for some late night foodie.  It totally helped prevent the hangover that was looming for the morning.  We also couldn't believe that there was a 'bouncer' at the door. =)

My second time at Kati Roll wasn't that crazy, it was 4pm on a Friday afternoon.  I went in and ordered two rolls: Paneer and Aloo.  Both were great, and the packaging was awesome too - we actually brought it back to DC and ate it two days later.

Woot.  Love Kati Roll.

My first real meal in NYC; of course I was excited!

There was a lot of hype about this place before I came, and it did not disappoint.  Down to the long line that I had to wait in.

The restaurant has three to four tables, tops.  At any given time during our stay there were twice (if not more) the number of people.  And not many females...that was weird.

Regardless, the chicken undas (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) were delicious, greasy, and well worth the wait.

Way, way, way better than Columbia's Bombay Frankie roll -- love the oniony, slightly spicy egg roll, love the new chana masala roll, and love the cheap prices.

Tip: Bring wet wipes.  Your hands will smell like Indian takeout for weeks to come if you don't.

There was a long line of Indian people so we just got on to see what all the fuss was about. The unda chicken was dry and inconsistently made. One was dripping wet, another was dry, another had a raw onion bomb. Plus you hand will smell like curry for the rest of the night...

good quick grab. I went to the one in west village and this location does not have much place to sit and hang out with a bunch of buddies. The food is good and yes really light on your pocket. Go give it a try. you will like it.

Even in a coma, I could navigate myself to this place I love it so much.

Ridiculously simple yet so lavishly tasty food!
Prices are decent, the service is friendly and prompt.
Seating is extremely limited.

This location is MUCH better than their midtown store.
Open late for all your midnight munchie cravings.

Aloo Masala and Chicken Unda baby!

This would be great drunk-food, but i've only had the opportunity to eat it sober.

It's good stuff. I'm particularly fond of the paneer roll, but i cycle through the other vegetarian rolls as well. My main frustration with the Kati rolls is that i could eat 2.5 in one sitting, so i always only get 2, so i'm always slightly hungry afterward.

Also, it always takes longer than it seems it should, even when the restaurant is devoid of other customers, but it's still fairly quick.

This particular location is TINY, it seats 6 or 8, so if the weather's good, pick up your food and go eat in Washington Square Park.

quite possibly the best fast food has to offer. these piping hot, fresh kati rolls are perfection! which is why there is always a line and not just full of NYU kids getting their late night/post-drink/study munchies on, either, if you know what I mean... this is the real deal...

totally worth the line and wait. you might as well order 2 from the get-go b/c one is definitely  not enough.

Kati is very versatile.  Perfect for park picnics to resolving late night drunken stupors, this place is a go-to for affordable, tasty eating.

The place is butt small and the lines get long at times (especially at midnight on Friday), but once you get your Kati roll (chicken unda is where it's at), oh baby.  Seriously, oh baby!  All your desires have been met.  India has become your adopted motherland.  Your DVD collection has gone Bollywood.  You quote Slumdog Millionaire with aggression.  You choreograph for the world-class NYU Bhangra team.  Nirvana is now your paradise.

Tip for today is if you order two of the same roll, you get $1 off which you can apply to your next purchase of PBR at Fat Cat.

Straight up awesome drunkfood... and not the kind that will leave you feeling like your tum is coated with grease.

Really tasty, quick service, and made me feel lily white as I waited in line... I will say this much: one roll ain't enough. They seem like a good cheap deal when you walk in, but you straight up need to drop at least $10 to leave your gut in a good state.

Will return again while the weather is nice.

I came here when I was sober. I had the chicken & unda chicken. It was a bit too dry and spicy. I couldn't really taste the ingredients. I had chicken??

Maybe I'll try it again after a night of drinking. Otherwise, this place is a disappointment for something the size of a large-ish taquito for $5 each.

Disclaimer: This was the 5th lap out of an 8 restaurant, 10 hour food marathon and by far, the lap that found us the most fatigued. In other words, by the time we arrived at Kati Roll, I no longer wanted to eat let alone stand on two legs.

I find that the concept of a wrap combining all of the best Indian ingredients is always so great in concept, but lacking in execution.

I found that to be the case with the Chicken Unda Roll we tried from Kati Roll Co. The chicken and unda (egg) was extremely dry, the wrap didn't seem to be naan (which is what I expected while fantasizing about this concept in the first place), and I didn't find the sauce spectacular.

With all the stellar reviews from you stellar Yelpers, I'm still open to trying this place again (which I never do for 2 stars) but will certainly do so in different circumstances i.e. I'm starving, I'm drunk or I'm starving drunk.

Our friend introduced us to this tiny place after a very eventful night filled with highs and lows...

The menu is a huge poster board that has a picture of a chicken or potatoes or  blocks (I was told it was cheese) and the name of the dish under it. Reminds me of grade school posters. Kati roll is basically an Indian burrito and 2 will usually be enough to satisfy the late night hunger. The unda chicken roll is pretty good, but my favorite is the arloo masala roll with extra chutney, a nice spicy kick. It tastes similar to a burmese dish that I'd been craving. I'm a girl that likes her meat. If only they would combine the chicken + egg+ potatoes...then I'd be hooked, but until then I'll have to settle with one of each and alternating bites between the two.

Thanks Kati Roll. it was the perfect pick me up after a long night at the tow pound.

I ordered 2 unda chicken rolls, one each for my friend and I, and really enjoyed watching the guy mixing up the egg in a metal bowl, frying it ontop of the large round wok-like plate, and placing it below the fried pieces of dough. Though the kati rolls were yummy, I thought they were too small for $5.50 each!

Not sure if I'm willing to pay that much for a small snack, even if it is really tasty. FYI, they don't take credit cards, only cash. My suggestion: go here to try it out if you've never been before and decide for yourself if you want to go back.

A NYC delicacy of epic proportions. This place is everything I wish LA had, as I live here and was only visiting NYC in May for a week.

My trendy cousin led me here after a night of cocktails and fun and I was honest to say, dubious, of the hype that Kati Roll has received, from friends and family...but I let my all too knowing cousin take me there, with a little buzz still on.

We walked in, looked at the hilariously-graphic menu, and order chicken and paneer(cheese-like tofu) kati rolls, SPICY, of course.

Within a few minutes, we were given our rolls, to go, in aluminum foil and tightly wrapped plastic bags. When we arrived to the midtown apartment, we opened to find delicious rolls of meat and cheese and paneer.

I ate them so fast they didn't know what hit them. I loved the ingredients and as an Indian, that's a really good compliment.

Hopefully I find an imitation here in Southern California. Kati it up, New Yorkers!

Why on earth doesn't California have more chains like this?? We need kati rolls here!

This small and unassuming shop in the middle of Greenwich is packed with people (and only have enough seats for like 10 people). The line is usually store long but moves quickly. The rolls here are cheap and delicious - the menus are hilarious too. Instead of listing out rolls and what comes within, you get pictures - if you want a chicken and egg roti roll, there is a picture of a chicken, and an egg. Seriously.

I tried the unda aloo masala, which was good but a bit too 'sour' for my taste. It was a hearty roll and one is filling. Definitely a place to hit up after you've had a few drinks and need something hot and comforting that is easy to eat, inexpensive, and not something generic like a hot dog.

LOVE this place as a late night drinking, have the munchie, Im in the neighborhood, let's go kinda place! Doubt that I would ever come here sober.

Best part that makes Kati legit though, is that we were the only non-Indians in the joint. And that we popped out a bottle of sake and nobody said a thing.

The place is small, lines got even longer after 1am on July 4th weekend after we sat down, but worth the wait. I say get anything rolled up with an egg-- if you dont, the chicken may taste too dry. Best one we tried was the roll with egg and potatoes. All orders well seasoned and spiced. Yummy.

1 roll is good enough, but I'd get 2 for the roti roll alone. (Didnt try the whole wheat roll, but it probably wont taste as authentic). Love the picture menu!!

I totally agree with the other reviewers - a kati roll is like an Indian burrito.

The restaurant is small - basically just a counter with 4 or 5 tables.  That's not a problem when the weather is nice - Washington Square Park is right around the corner.

I got the Chicken + Egg kati roll and the Egg + Potato roll.  I thought the chicken + egg roll was great.  Not too spicy, but definitely had good flavor.  The Egg + Potato roll was also good, but I didn't think it was a real standout.  Nothing wrong with it, just didn't really do much for me.

Walking late night,in the streets of Greenwich village, there was this huge line and i assumed it to be a entry to some club, because there was a Bouncer!!!!!!yeah surprising Kati roll had a bouncer.Actuall it was Shocking!!!
It's a small place attracting hundred's of people with its best bread and huge chunks of cottage cheese and chicken.I ordered Achari paneer roll,i would say i enjoyed the bread more than the filling, because the chunks were massive and it kind of ruined the taste. But me,being a great fan of Mumbai franky's,i ended up having 2 of them and i did go go here to compare it to Amchi Pao,which was a street away.Amchi or Kati, guess the credit goes to those who enjoy Mumbai food and just wish to feel home :)

I'm not sure why it's taken me so long to review this place. I've been going here for years.

If you're in the mood for fast, cheap, and delicious food in the NYU area, here's your place. As my friend Phillip elegantly coined them, kati rolls are in essence Indian burritos. One roll tends to be enough for me, but I know that some people need two. My favorite is the paneer roll.

A couple of things to consider:

- The place is super small, so if you go at peak times it might be hard to get a table. (Perhaps get take out and eat at the newly renovated Washington Square Park?)
- It's open late at night, so if you're drinking in the area and want to mix things up and not get your standard slice of pizza, this may be a good option.

I'll surely be back, as it's one of my favorite places in the city.

The rolls that Kati Roll serves are like 'naaninis', or sandwiches with a bread that is like naan. They're used to wrap the meat, potatoes, egg, etc. fillings that go inside.

Today I came here with a friend, and I initially got a chicken and egg roll for $5.75. I thought it would be sufficient for me, but as soon as my friend pointed out the dinky little rolls that were sitting on a guy's plate at the front, I was like, whaat? That's all $5.75 here gets me?! So then I got the potato and egg roll, too, which was $5.25. That's an $11 lunch, guys. Isn't this a little much to ask for when you're around NYU?

The chicken was well cooked and tender, and the bread was satisfying, but the potato filling didn't seem that well seasoned. Not sure this place is a standout in the area, especially since I know I can just go down a few storefronts and get an amazing falafel sandwich or something similar at Mamoun's Falafel for next to nothing. I'll take my money and bring it there instead.

It's open late and one kati roll will fill you up!  What more can you ask for?

I was the only non Indian person ordering which made me think ohhh must be good.  I like the unda chicken roll and the shami kabab roll (minced mutton).  I don't know what spices are in the unda chicken roll but sometimes it has a bitter hint to it.  The shami kabab is very meaty with the right amount of spices.  Sometimes there is a long ass wait

Holy %?&%?&!

This place is AWESOME.  If you like Indian food and have the munchies at 3am - there is no better place in the city, not even the famous cart on 46th and 6th.  Yummy tasty, well-spiced, greasy Indian food all rolled up in a little sandwich - YUMMMMMMM.  You can get meat, paneer, or many other choices.  Honestly, the best time to have this is really after a night out in the City... that is what this is meant for.  I CRAVE the paneer kati Roll - it reminds me of the kind of authentic, unhealthy stuff you get on the streets of India - LOVE IT!

All I can say is WOW (pronounced VOW)!!

Please note: there are other locations in the city as well... I believe there is one in Curry Hill

It's a small little place with a couple of tables inside.  Got the beef and egg and a potato one (forgot the name).  It was the first time I've had one of these rolls and they were very good I thought.  They're about $5 each but it's a decent amount of food and 2 of them should be enough for a meal.  The line can get bad sometimes so if there are a lot of people in front of you, it could be a slow wait as they don't necessarily turn them out that fast.

In the end I strongly recommend it and think it's the perfect quick meal!

After a long night of un-ts un-ts un-ts go get some un-da un-da un-da.

Kati roll.  That mecca of late night greasy yumminess that will satisfy you in ways that sex never can.

Cow, egg, chicken, potatoe, paneer.... ok, I have to stop here.  I'm getting hungry.  The fact that the menu has pictures of the whole animal you are about to digest just makes it that much better.  Of course, I'm not really sure what they were trying to achieve with the paneer sketch cause that could just be about anything that is lumpy and white.  Well, except me.

I really really love kati roll.  The way the delicious meat juice runs down your wrist as you nibble your way through the roll, the way you get little bites of paper along with your paratha and beef....  What could be better?  This is truly the best after hours, alcohol absorbing, spicy treat on the face of the earth.  Even better than that cart guy on 6th and 53rd.

Yeah, I love me some kati roll.  Now bring me some.  Now.

Kati Roll is my neighbor and like any good neighbor I visit them weekly. Ok, that's a REALLY good neighbor but if you were my neighbor and you made me hot, greasy rolls full of savory spices...chicken...onions...mmm. Yes, you wouldn't be able to get rid of me.

The first few times I had this it was too spicy for me, despite requesting the wussy spices. And then, suddenly enlightenment came...or I'd dulled my taste buds enough to tolerate all that flava. When this happened I plowed through two chicken tikka rolls in less than 10 minutes. I've never looked back. I can't speak for the beef or other combos, but I'm pretty confident that two chicken tikkas washed down with an orange Fanta soda will knock you off your foodie feet!

You owe it to yourself and you owe it to your neighbors...

Yummy, yummy in my tummy.

Went out Saturday night and came to Kati Roll for some late-night drunk food.

I had the chicken + egg roll and it was soooo delicious.  Tasty marinated chicken + yummy chutney and crispy onion.... perfect blend of flavors.

If I lived in NY I would go there all the time!!

P.S. The place is small. And it seemed like it took FOREVER to get our food. Not sure if it really did or if that was our drunken perception of time. Also, you cant eat inside after 3am.

Kati Roll is ideal food for the end of a long night out. I've only had it pre-night out. It's a little on the greasy side for that.

Think of it as an indian burrito. They use a bread more similar to a paratha (rather than naan) which - is flour, water, and ghee or oil. Not sure what these guys use.

The fillings are pretty good on taste, but not the curry explosion that I crave when I have indian food.

Overall, if I'm in the area, I'd probably pick Kati Roll over Mamouns, though the price is a little steeper.

What phenomenon brings us to Bleecker and MacDougal every Friday and Saturday at 4am after a long night of drinking? What is the one place where we don't mind waiting in line in the cold for 30 minutes until the bouncer lets us in?

No, my friends, it is not a club... it's not even a bar. It is the amazing Kati Roll.

My friends and I cannot get enough of the delicious magic-in-your-mouth paratha bread rolls filled with saucy goodness and happiness in the form of potato, chicken, beef, egg, and a million other mind-boggling goodies.

A drunken night in NYC is never complete without a Kati Roll... maybe two.

My friends and I have love for Kati Roll that goes beyond just enjoying the food. We love the bouncer, we love the super efficiency, we love making friends with everyone in line, and we love watching our friends pass out in Kati sauce in between rounds.

Kati Roll for life.

This place has a BOUNCER at night!!!  Not that I blame them, it's pretty rowdy on weekends... all those tipsy undergrads eating up a storm, demanding their kati kati kati rollies at the same time, fighting hordes of others just like them, all trying to satisfy that munchie craving.

Chicken, egg, paneer, potato rolls are good.  Did it live up to the hype?  Not quite.  But yes, I will gladly join the rushing of the bulls if it means that I will get my munchie fix at 4am in square.

I got 2 sandwiches, the chicken tikka and achara paneer (Indian cottage cheese marinated in spicy pickle).  The chicken tikka was quite spicy, but still at least the chicken wasn't overcooked.  I preferred the more mild-tasting achara paneer, the cheese was in cubes (?? ) and not very melted.  The roti was crispy and not too oily.

Tiny place with maybe three 2-person tables, great to just grab 'n go lunch...or late-night snack =)

I visited this godsend on a recent trip to NYC with a friend who spoke highly of it for a while. I was like 'Ok, this place better be good. I have eaten actual 'Kathi Rolls' in India so we'll see..' Holy #(*&#(*!! This place serves better kathi rolls than some places in India!

Ok, first things first - the menu itself looks like something right out of a 1st grade book. For someone going in for the first time, picture representations help more than you think. It covers all the basic kathi rolls - egg, chicken, beef, mutton, paneer (cheese) and aloo (potatoes). Needless to say, you can order a mix of any two of the above too. The rolls are served fresh and made with real Indian spices. You can tell when you're eating good Indian food - your nose starts to drip and beads of sweat collect on your forehead. Ok, thats just me.. I ordered two rolls - Unda (Egg) Chicken and the Shami Kabab (minced mutton) roll. Both were extremely rich in taste and very very satisfying. If I was still an undergrad, I may have chomped down on 3 of those suckers!

The rolls are medium sized.. if extremely hungry, don't feel like a glut eating more than one. It happens to most people that walk into this place. Both locations for this restaurant are convenient although I'm unsure about parking. What else? There's only that much to say about kathi rolls. The rest is up to your taste buds; which might I add are mildly challenged if you don't enjoy the food here.

Oh, the food is heavy on oil, as are most Indian dishes. So its probably best that people on a diet don't go here. Because so help me lord, I hate to listen to 'Omg, this is like 100000 calories. That's like an extra 40 hours at the gym'. You know you could just throw up after, right?

Delicious and the best drunk food! These buttered Kati rolls do not have a overpowering spicy flavor that is present in all other indian food. It is a decent size and goes well after a good night of drinking.

The place is a hole in a wall, and I like the old Indian movie posters in Eastman color adorning the wall. The best part is the menu hanging in the wall with animal pictures to help you understand what each roll means (you will never have to ask- "what is in it?")

The only drawbacks are the long late night lines and the health aspect. If you are watching your weight, then this place may be worthwhile skipping. Oh, and the price are reasonable.
