This place probably doesn't need any more good reviews, but I'll add to the list. We've now had every meal at this place - breakfast, lunch, brunch, and dinner. I love that so many of the ingredients are locally and responsibly sourced. We've gone often for lunch and breakfast, which are delicious, and the daily specials keep us from getting bored. We went recently for the first time for dinner, though, and though the cost is higher, the food was fabulous, with generous portions (mine also made a great lunch the next day). I had the chicken, which was a little on the rich side with a cream sauce *and* goat cheese, which was delicious. My partner had the fish special, which was well cooked and came with a grit cake and black eyed peas, and was also delicious. The dessert was less stellar - I was surprised that they were offering strawberry shortcake in the winter, and the shortcake was hard and the strawberries seemed to have been frozen and then macerated with some type of liquor, but my partner happily finished it all. We can't afford to go for dinner all the time, but when we can we'll be there.
They had a musician there in the evening, too, who was possibly one of the best live-musicians-during-dinner I've ever heard. -

Their food is always delicious, the portions are large, they have lots of vegan options, the place is clean, and their wait staff are very friendly.
The only negatives are the cash only thing and the size of the restaurant. It's so small and the food is so good, that you often have to wait a while if you go during a "peak" time. -

How have I lived in Gainesville for nearly 3 years and never eaten here before? The Jones has everything from organic, free range, gluten free, and even vegan options. I'm a huge meat eater and I loved knowing where my meat has come from. I ate the buffalo burger, and probably cleaned my plate after 2 minutes. The food is great and not expensive at all!
This place is perfect for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. If you haven't eaten there yet you're missing out.
one last friendly reminder- they only take cash (which is a little annoying) so don't forget to stop by an atm before you go if you need to -

This is my favorite resturant in Gainesville. I had dinner here last night and it was such a peaceful and delicious experience. I had the tofu curry which is one of my favorite dishes here. It is spicy and done just right. They have a good small selection of beers and I tried one from Coronado, California that was good. Whoever edits their beer selections does a good job. I also appreciate the revolving art that is exhibited here, while waiting for my dinner I enjoyed the current display. I even like their music selections! The ambiance is great and the food is too. I only wish I had a resturant this good closer to where I live.

The Jones is my go to place for healthy restaurant food. I love their salads but I think the price is a little high for the portion. 8$ for a small (lunch) plate of salad is a little much. If they dropped the price to about 6$ I think it would be adequate. The last time I was there I had a carrot soup and it was good. Spices were similar to what I would expect with a pumpkin soup or pumpkin ravioli. It was a good combination. The texture was a little odd to me but it didn't ruin the soup. My friend had a veggie wrap with peanut sauce and really enjoyed it.
The place can get very crowded during lunch so plan to wait or get there early. Don't forget they don't take credit cards! Checks or cash only. -

Combine a welcoming wait staff with thoughtful dishes made from extremely fresh ingredients and you have The Jones. This small Gainesville eatery serving breakfast, lunch and dinner and satisfying vegetarians and carnivores alike is truly a hidden gem.
We stopped in for lunch and found The Jones offers daily variations on their lean Buffalo Burger. We were thrilled with the Cheddar, Bacon, and Fried Egg option. This combination worked so well, no condiments were required. The home-fries that accompanied the burger can only be described as crazy good: tender and well-seasoned.
The Falafel Burger with Quinoa was an immediate hit. The home-made falafel was remarkably fresh and had beautifully balanced spices. The generous serving of quinoa was prepared with garlic and sautéed onion and rounded out the dish nicely. The ginger dressing that accompanied the burger was far too mild, but we didn't feel it was necessary and didn't miss it a bit.
We ended our visit with a piece of Pineapple Upside Down Cake: moist home-made goodness with just the right sweetness. The Jones offers other tempting treats such as home-made oreos, carrot cake and blondies to name but a few. Check out the smaller blackboard on the front wall for the day's offerings.
Buffalo Burger (w/toppings) $9.95
Falafel Burger $8.25
Pineapple Upside Down Cake $4.25
Not that we'll ever remember before we get there, but it's CASH or CHECK only. -

The Jones is perfect for brunch. The food is great. Casual, good service, and inexpensive (especially if you consider the quality of what you're getting).
The breakfast potatoes were delicious. My friend ordered the cuban french toast (brioche with guava) and it was even better than what I ordered. Already planning on going back this weekend.
Eat here. You won't regret it. -

Went here at around 2pm, and this place was still packed. Customers kept rolling in as soon as we sat down, soon enough it was fully packed with people, customers had to start sitting outside, and it was a bit nippy this day. Very fresh, very local food. A must stop if you like good food! Be aware this place can get crowded, its not very big. Also its cash or check only, no plastic.

Healthy options with great flavor! I will come here for the coffee alone. Everything is home-made, and made with the freshest meat and produce brought in by local farmers...Gotta love that! Seating is limited but it's definitely worth waiting, we try to go at off-peak times. Cash only

The Jones is quaint and quirky with great food. I love the good eats in the Northeast and Downtown Gainesville area!
It's bustling and noisy in a small, cosy, neighborly atmosphere kind of way. Excellent food, most things you can customize and it's very vegetarian and vegan friendly with tons of options and extras. Plus they have fantastic gluten-free desserts and baked goods. The GF chocolate chip cookies are fabulous - thank you, baker extraordinaire. I have sampled a lot from their menu and they have some great standing items (burrito, breakfast foods, salads) and delicious specials (I've particularly enjoyed their fish and their raw food dishes). This is a lovely place with delcious, healthy food, a homey vibe and great service. Thanks!
Cons...minor...
The Jones is so cosy, be warned that you can't really have a private conversation - the dining room is tiny and the tables are close together. Wish they took credit cards (it's only cash or check).
Note: In the peak of summer, what with the open kitchen, it is uncomfortably hot in the dining room but you can sit outside. -

Okay, so after hearing so much about this place, I was a little bummed. It was good but not THAT great.
The atmosphere is fun and I liked the music they had on and the menu choices were interesting but it took forever and overall wasn't that incredible. I kind of compared it to Civilization and there's really no comparison. Civilization is much better. -

Very small restaurant on the east side of town...who can't decide if they take reservations or call ahead... we called ahead and they told us they only take reservations.. luckily we were able to get in a table of 6 without a problem as the place was not too busy at 10:15 on a sunday morning...
it did fill up quickly thereafter.. funny thing is that a group came in later saying they had called ahead for a table of 6 and were easily and readily seated...
is it reservations or call ahead?...at least be consistent...
Apparently the AC was broken, because the place was at least 84+ degrees (according to the thermostat facing us, even though it was set at 69)....hopefully this is not a permanent thing...
they at least tried to counteract this by turning the fans on full blast during the last 5 minutes of our stay......
I ordered the black cherry kombucha, and was pleasantly surprised... never had kombucha before but its basically tea, but it comes in a nice wine glass although definitely nonalcoholic...
The daily special really looks a little sad. it's only $5.50, and comes with 2 eggs, toast, and a side of either grits vs. homefries. ...they are your standard cheesy grits... nothing special...
The salmon omelette was a pretty tasty. Omelette wrapped around salmon with dill cream cheese.. The best part about this dish was the home fries, they were perfect... and the omelette wasn't so bad, just could have used a tad bit less cream cheese which seemed to overwhelm everything....
And they only take cash or check... and the bank of america nearby has closed... gas station maybe?Comment from Maya G. of The Jones Eastside Eatery 8/22/2011

One of the Daily Specials: Steak and Eggs Benedict
When you have an eggs benedict made with quality hanger steak instead of ham, and bagels instead of an English muffin, you have slightly elevated the dish. But then when you bread the poached egg in panko and deep fry it without managing to rupture the delicate oblong; you have sent it to the stratosphere!
The hanger steak, as mentioned, was excellent quality (no gristle, ideal "toothiness"/chew, and non-gamey-but-still-very-meaty flavor) and pan-seared or griddled (not grilled). It was cut on a bias, against the grain, and cooked to an ideal medium!
The panko breaded deep fried poached egg was an absolute triumph! I was impressed that it was executed perfectly-- this is not an easy thing to do.
The reason this review is four stars (and not five) is because of the hollandaise sauce. It was, by far, the weakest component of the dish. In short it was a bit too runny. However the rest of the dish was so good that it almost didn't matter....almost.
It is plated with one egg, on top and in the middle of, the steak slices which bridges two halves of a bagel and drizzled with hollandaise sauce. After eating half of the dish, but with the entire egg consumed, I arranged my knife and fork to the finished position. When the server came to collect my plate she looked concerned: "Was it okay? Was there something wrong?" She asked.
"It was great!" I said emphatically.
"I'm just trying not to overeat." I added.
Which is true (my new diet is to eat *at most* half of what I'd eat normally...that way I deprive myself of nothing but quantity), but very difficult to do, especially when the food is this good.

Just ate lunch here for the first time. It's cozy and the decor is well done for what it is. The menu features a lot of unique offerings that even appeal to a meat-eater like myself. I had the buffalo burger - my first time trying buffalo - with pepper jack cheese and sweet peppers...decent. The meat itself was well seasoned but it could have used a dressing of some sort. The baked potato and bacon soup was not what I expected, big chunks of potato rather than a cream style. Still, it was alright. The server was very nice but we didn't hear from her from the time we ordered until the time we received the bill. A check-in to find out I needed hot sauce would have been nice.
So, pretty good, not great. I may try it again some time.
And remember to bring cash - no cards accepted. -

It's a serious situation that it has taken me this long to eat here. I have no justification aside from the fact that I rarely go to this side of town. However, when my boyfriend (who is in the Army) came to town we decided to try it on his first night in. I will say I was a little shocked at how it looked from the outside, I even doubted I had come to the right place, but oh my goodness how cute inside!
We came on a Monday so there was live music (all very tasteful and groovy). Anyway the food was delicious, very reasonably priced and the service was excellent. I have absolutely nothing negative to say. The menu was also very extensive, especially for vegetarians and vegans, which tickles my fancy. I am so disappointed in how long it took me to go here! -

Well..I caved and went back to The Jones for dinner. At least it wasn't 120 degrees in there tonight. But, it was yet another disappointing experience.
I ordered the Nooner Burrito with sour cream ON THE SIDE and broccoli for my side dish. After 30+ minutes, the burrito came with tons of sour cream INSIDE and the broccoli was ice cold.
The waitress didn't write down the orders, so I guess either a) she forgot what I said or b) the cook just got it wrong. Either way..not what I ordered. I don't have any explanation for the cold broccoli.
The waitress never came around to check on us after she delivered the food, so I didn't get a chance to tell her I was unhappy. And we waited so long for the food anyway, I didn't want to send it back and wait. So, I tried to scrape the sour cream out and eat around it, and just left the broccoli.
Oh well. That place is always busy, so I'm sure they'll survive without my business.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Wanted to take a friend to lunch, somewhere special, different, local, healthy. Just as she and I were headed out the front door of my office, undecided on a place to eat, I saw my friend Jessica post on Facebook that she was at The Jones'... ah-hahh, that's where we'll go.
It's been a month or two since I was there last, but I knew the place would be cozy and quaint, plus we could run into Jessica and say Hi.
We both ordered Quinoa with veggies, I had a kambucha, it's one of the few places that has both of these items, so I usually take advantage of the opportunity every time i'm there. Ordering this same thing repetatively is not my usual habit, but like I said, it's been awhile and I was craving the healthiness of grain, veggies and energy.
The restaurant was crowded but not packed, and no waiting line at 1pm... they even had a few tables on the front patio. We took the last two seats, service was prompt, the food was good. Mostly i go here for the delightful atmosphere, so my only complaint is that the food isn't GREAT, it's just good. I'll keep going there because of the ambiance, it's small, unique and healthy, but the quinoa could use some flavor.
I like when my friends post on FB where they eat, so I checked in at the Jones' too, so anybody who cared could do so as well. Always good to remind other folks what's out there for restaurant choices! -

Interesting.
I really like the food! We started with the brie appetizer (I LOVE brie!) I had the Stir it up with Tempeh. The portions were a little small, but it was really good. I ordered a mint lemonade that I was really looking forward to try, but it never made it to my table :(
I would definately go back here again, but not that often. For the prices, I would expect more food.
Also, they have art on the wall! I love places that have art on the walls!
But then, it's cash only.
There are really awesome things about this place, and also really annoying things. So, it's stuck in the middle star range. -

Two words: HUEVOS RANCHEROS.
I'm not a big egg eater, but pair 'em with some tortillas, black beans, salsa and sour cream and I'm sold. The Jones does this dish very well. It's a small place, so expect to wait on weekend mornings. They use fresh ingredients, much (if not all) of them organic. The staff is friendly (and cute!) and besides the aforementioned ova, offer a bevy of breakfast options that could probably please anyone. I'm looking forward to going back.
Oh, and I'm sure this has been repeated ad nauseum, but The Jones is CASH ONLY. Plan ahead.Listed in: The Fest

I regularly eat here for lunch.
My number one choice is the buffalo burger. Toppings vary by day and are hit or miss. The best for me were mozzarella, bacon and mushrooms. The worst was some kind of sweet potato slices piled twice as thick as the actual burger.
I have also had the salads which include a made- in-house dressing. You won't see ranch or bleu cheese as an option. The ginger and lime dressings were good.
You won't find a salmon omelette anywhere else in Gainesville.
If you arrive during the lunch crowd it can be hard to find a table. Cash only! -

It was Labor Day and most everything in Gainesville was closed (*ahem*! The Top...Satchel's...) as we passed through. A friend recommended The Jones, so we stopped in. Cute little place, and it was bustling. Service was slow and you could tell the waitstaff was working their tails off. After about 10 minutes we snagged a seat up at the bar area. I ordered the tempeh reuben with a side of fruit and the boyfriend ordered The Primo -- a roast beef sandwich pressed on a sourdough baguette with caramelized onions, Swiss cheese, arugula, and homemade horseradish spread with a side of new potatoes. We were quickly informed they ran out of roast beef. Okay, so he subbed in turkey. Then after time passed we were informed they'd run out of new potatoes. Okay, sub fruit instead. Our meals arrived and were nothing special as far as presentation goes. I added 1/4 avocado to my reuben. It was good, but the bread was dry and not toasted. His sandwich didn't have the horeseradish spread.
Would like to maybe try again but think The Top (when open) is much better for a fun little eclectic spot in Gainesville. -

The Jones reminds me of one of the many hippie themed eateries that are plentiful in California from Berkeley, through the Haight, all the way up to Humboldt County. The servers and cooks are all tattooed, unshaven, and hip. The rear section of the establishment is a giant chalkboard where specials and announcements are written in colorful chalk.
Its a perfect place for Smuggsters to go and feel superior to the local Alachua County Residents, or ACR's as they are called by the hip here. Everything is purported to be free-trade, organic, holistic, reverse-osmosis, etc. Sure you pay for it, but its a small price to pay for the feeling that comes with knowing you are better than others. Apple posers, Prius groupies, and fart tasting is all welcome here.
Unique Gainesville joint for good, locally grown, hip food. I enjoyed the Jones Juevos Rancheros with a side of of sourdough toast and the fresh squeezed OJ. Reasonably priced and great service. -

I can't believe how long it took me to finally "discover" this place. I really love it here.
Biggest issue: space. The restaurant is lovely inside and very cozy, but there simply is not enough dining room for the rush hours of breakfast and lunch. The sole reason for 4 stars is having to wait forever. And cash only because I never have cash on me. Okay, the service is a little slow sometimes too. But it's absolutely worth it.
The first time I came here I got a TLT (tempeh, lettuce, and tomato). Good sandwich, but I have had better. Second time I got breakfast food, can't remember what the entree was, but the definite star were the home fries. Best home fries ever. My boyfriend got the buffalo burger (which I haven't seen much of in Florida, especially locally supplied) and my friend got the salmon omelette. I can't say I'm a fan of fish and eggs together, but she raved about that omelette. Oh, and you must get the fresh citrus juice- particularly the mint lemonade.
I will definitely be visiting again, so long as I remember to stop at the ATM first. (don't forget cash on a Sunday... the pawn shop next door that has the ATM is closed!) -

This is my new favorite restaurant in gville!!! I've been craving for some healthy eating while not skimping out on the flavor side, and boy did this place deliver!!! I was initially referred to there by a friend so my boyfriend and i decided to check it out. The place was in a little plaza ( i love discovering little hole-in-the-wall places!) It's a really small restaurant but it's small size didn't deter people from eating there judging by how busy it was when we got there! The only downside was that since the place was small, there were only two waitresses so service was only decent but our waitresses sure accommodated us! Since she forgot to bring my boyfriend's drink, he wasn't charged for it and she also let me try their house coffee (which they roast themselves) for free!
I didn't even get to the food... What drew me to the place was when my friend said they only use fresh, organic produce from local farmers which I thought was really neat. Although I'm not a vegetarian, I thoroughly enjoy vegetarian dishes from time to time to balance my palate and simply because they can be just as enjoyable as meaty dishes. Anyways, I ordered the Quin-what and added broccoli and I was floored by the flavor!!!! It was soooo delicious and the serving size was generous. Meanwhile my boyfriend, who is very picky mind you, decided to get the shitake chicken. Needless to say, I found myself reaching over every so often to take a bite off of his food--it was sooo good! And most importantly, he loved it too! The freshness of the ingredients was very apparent in the savory flavor of the meals! We loved it and I'm definitely going back!
Although they promote lots of vegan and vegetarian dishes, they also accommodate those that are not vegetarian so they have an array of food to choose from. It's usually hard to find a place with this kind selection since my boyfriend and i have different tastes. Plus, the price is right for the great quality of food they serve!
Next time I'm going to try their breakfast, which i heard was also noteworthy!!! -

The Jones has a real dedication to eating local and they seem to have really put some thought into where and which ingredients they use.
I went for breakfast with a few friends. I got the Jones Rancheros. It had all the pieces there, everything was bright and fresh, but was just bland. It left me staring at my friends' omelets/french toast which they said were delicious. Although underseasoned, the meal seemed healthy (I have low standards for the word "healthy") and gave me energy to survive the crowds at IKEA later that day. They had a lot of bread options. Also, I really liked my mint lemonade.
I will try this place again for lunch. I really liked the atmosphere and their menu looks great so my hopes are high.
They only take cash and call it an "eatery" instead of a restaurant. Know what you are getting into. -

This is my favorite local Gainesville place to eat; fresh and healthy!
Although I love how laidback the servers, the service is rather slow. I have had to get up the last four times I have gone to ask for my check or ask for a refill on water. -

I have only eaten here once so keep that in mind.... i was very underwhelmed with this restaurant. I had a tempeh wrap which was bland bland bland. My dining companion had a chicken entree which she enjoyed but I didn't think was very special as it also was under-seasoned and yet over-sauced. It is a trendy little joint and the menu looked like it had potential. Perhaps they were having an off night based on the previous reviews. I also got the impression that the staff felt they were cooler than everyone in there.

This place is not perfect but it is as close as anyone has gotten in Gainesville. Remember Kessel's Coney Island? This reminds me of that but updated with the knowledge we have today. Does that make sense? Let me explain.
Kessel's was an old Gainesville symbol of ideology in food and hippy attitude. The food was simple and very alternative at the time in that they had vegetarian items. The atmosphere was dotted with Lenny Kessel ceramics that are now probably pretty valuable. It was real and they tried to keep it that way. Ah the childhood nostalgia of a boiled carrot dog.
The Jones is real too. There will never be hippies again but ideological thinking was passed on to the next generations. This coupled with present day sharing of information, innovation and the motivation bring us what has become an experience known as The Jones.
From there raw food sunday special to there immense use of local and seasonal ingredients, they offer more in there tiny dining room than most of Gainesville combined. Somehow the food is fresh, innovative and inspired. These are the traits that made other restaurants in town successful. Let's just hope The Jones doesn't lose the spark like so many have.
There are flaws of course but where would we be without The Jones? I don't want to know. -

Man oh man was this place good! The huevos rancheros were fire (though not literally spicy). Everything at this place tasted fresh, from the fresh squeezed juice to my tomato basil toast. I sampled my friend's plates as well, the salmon omelet & eggs benedict, equally famazing. Also, please note, the rosemary sourdough toast is to die for, I don't usually like sourdough bread but this was out of this world. I will definitely be making another stop at this place the next time I'm in town.

LOVE this place! Cant believe I lived here forever and didnt even know it existed until recently...
Local, vegetarian friendly, with a great atmosphere. I've done breakfast and dinner, the staff are super duper friendly and our waitress even put our favorite beer, Old Chub, on the 'speical's' list for us at dinner when we asked, for just $1! Nice!
The only downside is that sometimes when I order something, it tastes almost exactly like my own cooking, especially brown rice/quinoa dishes as I do that a lot at home! I like to eat out to have a break from my own flavors lol, but at least I know its healthy! Thats the best thing- I can walk out of The Jones and NOT feel guilty for overindulging etc- I feel good =D
Their tomato/basil toast is to DIE for.
Dont forget to bring cash with you!! -

My girlfriend and I absolutely LOVE this the Jones!
I was searching for a place to take her out to, some place that was really unique, and I stumbled upon this place. I really had no idea what to expect.
The restaurant is a little hard to find if you don't look carefully. It's located right next to a gas station along with a chain of stores. Upon walking in, I immediately fell in love with the decor. Nothing super fancy, but very creative, very well.. quaint. There's a huge chalkboard painted on the wall with a list of specials among other things. The walls are lined with paintings from various artists and the tables are very simple with a dash of flowers for more appeal.
The waitresses are always very friendly, and my girlfriend especially liked the curly nature of one of the waitress's hair, but this review is about food and not hair, so carrying on...
The menu is awesome, with a mixture of common and unique items. The item that stands out for me the most is the salmon omelette, absolutely amazing. If you can't decide what to get, get that!
All the items I've tried were just amazing, so fresh and nicely priced. I would think a restaurant that served organic fresh foods would be priced a little higher, but no all the items are priced around $9.
The place has never been too packed, I usually come for breakfast/lunch, but I have been here for dinner I think once before. I've never had to wait more than say 10 mins, and that was only once.
This place is just amazing, don't pass it up if your in the area! -

LOVED this place-- delicious locally sourced food that works for vegetarians & meat-eaters alike! My boyfriend & I went last week- I had a buffalo reuban sandwich & the bf had a smoked salmon sammie. Both were tasty, but the standout of the meal was the baked brie with artichokes, spinach & garlic. The savory flavors meld perfectly w/ the brie & the puff pastry. It was to die for.
The big chalkboard was a great focal point of the restaurant & the service was good.
My ONLY complaint was that they only do cash or checks-- who doesn't have a credit card machine anymore? We rarely carry cash anymore & had to head over to Publix to use their ATM. -

The Jones is a great place. Still being discovered by many and mainly known for its amazing breakfast, there is a lot more to the Jones. The chef Mike is great, I loved his food when he was the head chef at Ti Amo(couple years ago now), and I still love it now. The specials is where it's at because those are specially prepared and thought up by Mike himself, but if you are feeling something else on the menu, it's all high quality foods.
The place uses lots of organic stuff, and I know the greens, veggies, and meats are picked up a couple times a week from a local organic farm and the farmers market so you can guarantee it's fresh.
They also display local artwork for sale, and accept CASH only! Seating is limited so make you check ahead or you might be in for a small wait. I checked no for groups, but I would say it's okay if your group is no bigger than 6, it's gonna be hard to seat anymore than that in one area. -

I was hungry for something new again so April O and I hopped over to the Jones Eastside Bakery.
Eastside?! I rarely go over there, I think the last time I ate in Eastside was my freshman year of college where I went to some Southern Cooking buffet (the name escapes me...). Pulling in, i could feel my heartbeat go up, where is April telling me to go?!
Walking inside...*phew* it's fine. The first thing I noticed was the large chalkboard of specials and the tiny space. The salmon omelet was screaming for me and that is what I quickly ordered.
The service was pretty fast, which was fortunate because I was famished. I loved the saltiness of the smoked salmon inside the omelet, which mixed well with the cream cheese dill and perfectly cooked eggs. The cream cheese was slightly overwhelming, but only because my health conscience was kicking me in the butt. The bread from Flour Pot was fine, and my side salad was very fresh. I had the ginger dressing which was a nice new twist.
Overall, I liked the food. April O. had the Le Coq Royal which was delicious because the french toast was not oily and the baconw as extra crispy yet still meaty.
This is a tough choice. On one side, if I give a 3, you might next this restaurant, but a 4 also seems too lenient. Oh well, I liked it, and I probably will go back :) -

Let's start with what I love. The menu is well-rounded and very vegetarian-friendly. I'm a breakfast whore, and can personally attest to most of the items on the breakfast list (that don't include meat). Their coffee is better than most places in town, and their baked goods/specials are always awesome.
That said, there's a lot about Jones that I just can't stand. Let's start with the size of the joint. You have to turn sideways as soon as you open the door, and I hate getting awkwardly seated within 2 inches of another table. Then there's the cash/check only issue, which I seem to always remember right as I'm pulling into the parking lot - leaving me no choice but to use either the sketchy pawn shop ATM or go to the sketchy gas station to get cash.
My last, and biggest, problem with Jones is that they are CONSTANTLY running out of their best menu items. Biscuits and gravy, hands down, is the best thing on their menu. I'd say 1 out of 10 times do I actually order it and get it. They are always running out of biscuits, gravy or both. How hard is it to realize it's your most popular item and make more of each? Grrrr.
I'll keep going back, ordering B&G and getting disappointed by Jones until I eventually find something I like better in Gainesville (which may be never). -

This has become my favorite place to eat breakfast while in Gainesville. The spinach garlic omelet was absolutely delicious and
Every bite better than the next! The home made multigrain bread was scrumptious. Homefries crispy and full of rosemary flavor. The grits were made with real corn grits made the healthy home made way. I can't wait to go back again! This place is a definite must! -

I went in early this morning (around 9am), and I was greeted immediately upon entering. I didn't know what I wanted (my first time and all), and was given adequate time to decide. The service was fast - there were only two other tables occupied during my meal. I had a coffee with milk, and the coffee was tasty, the milk organic (Organic Valley) served in a separate container so I could put however much I wanted (kudos on that), and I had the Le Coq Royal - two eggs, two slices of French toast, and bacon. It's not on their menu, just so you know. I canceled the bacon and requested a fruit cup (with actual deliciously fresh fruit, not some canned junk). The eggs were great and cooked perfect, the French toast very nice also.
The bathroom was sufficiently clean, and the atmosphere in the restaurant is relaxed and calm, which is perfect for catching up on worldwide news or brainstorming. By the way, the food took maybe 5-6 minutes to arrive after ordering, and that's quick. Sure, my food was the only one currently on order, but at least you know no time was wasted. My meal and coffee and fruit cup came to $13 something (since the Le Coq was not on special). A little higher than I would like, but you know what, the organic milk and fresh fruit did it for me. It's my new favorite breakfast place. But let's keep that between you and me, shall we? ; ) -

The food was good but the service I received from the hostess absolutely insulting. Waiting to be seated the hostess walked passed me twice looking at me both times, then waited on a couple that came in after me. A few moments later the hostess walks up to me and says, "are you here to eat." I was flabbergasted. I ate there anyway and my server was very nice, however I will never set foot in the Eastside Eatery again.

There are several places in Gainesville that serve as local as they can. In comparison, The Jones did not meet my expectations. My husband and I went here for dinner one evening and found our table service a bit slow, the portions quite small for the price, and the food left a little something to be desired.
THE FOOD: My husband ordered a buffalo burger that amounted to about the size of a slider with a thimble of gorgonzola cheese. I ordered the tempeh provencal, which was much blander than I expected. The portion size was OK but I felt it needed a side of something. Given what we got, we felt the food was overpriced.
THE SERVICE: They might have been down one person (there were 2 servers) or more frazzled by the larger group of 8 right next to us, but we felt pretty ignored. Once we got our menus and drink orders in, it took way too long for him to return to take our order. Once our food came, it again took too long for the plates to be cleared and get the check.
My friends who recommended we try it because they love it, had only had breakfast there. Reading some of the other reviews, it seems positive experiences stem from ordering breakfast here.
