Review from Mon R.
For a unique golfing experience, head over to The Islands Golf Center where you get to whack balls off in to the water that are marked with islands that mark the distance.
Prices are cheap and although the mats are not kept in the greatest condition, there's something about this place that makes it a fun as minature golf.
Keep in mind the balls are a lot lighter so you won't get the greatest accuracy with these balls. But, hey, how else are they going to float on top of the water? -

it's a good place to go whack balls (no pun intended), but if you're looking to practice in any serious capacity, not the best place.
first of all, the ENTIRE place is on a slant, so the tee is typically a few inches above your feet. second, balls are, as many mentioned, lighter and according to their website, travel on average 10% less than regular balls.
but it is cheap, $7.50 for a large bucket, which equals three ball tokens. i normally buy two and spread it across three visits.
this place is entirely unique in that you hit into a lake, which is kinda fun, but again, not the best when you're practicing on your accuracy. -

I go to this driving range by default because its the closest one in terms of distance. I like to go here during my lunch breaks and hit a medium bucket worth of balls. Prices are average with the large bucket topping out at $7.50. You should always buy the large bucket here because they give you tokens to put into the ball machine. If you don't spend all three tokens, you can save them for next time.
The few things to consider when playing here:
- Floating balls (fly slightly shorter than regular balls).
- Hit off mats and only some of them have shade.
- Random mix of balls (old and new)
- Can't test out "rolling distance" or "bounce" -

When you first arrive, you're all into the islands and trying to make your shots land on them. After a while, you're over it like as if you have ADHD.
The range prices were pretty cheap compared to what I'm normally use to which was a plus.
They once had a Roger Dunn attached to the site but it is now closed. The entire facility itself isn't in the greatest shape. The golf balls leave a lovely white taint on your clubs since they spend most of their lives sitting in the mirky waters.
If you just want to work on your swing and shots in general or maybe jusr want to kill some time at the driving range then this is an okay place to practice. If you're on a date or looking for a fancier spot, I'd recommend you going somewhere a little more up to "par."Listed in: Happy Gilmore says FOURRRRR!

Fun but expensive...
Pretty cool trying to land it on their many isolated green isands or sand box circles...but my favorite is trying to sink their boat.Listed in: Golfers Anonymous

Came on a Saturday afternoon and there was plenty of space -- theres a small putting green as well as the driving range into the water. The cool islands make the driving range interesting/exciting for even non golfers or for children who are just learning -- they also let you use loaner clubs for just your ID

Pros: friendly service, free coffee, cheap price, fun to hit in the water. Also I like how they sell balls till 9:45pm and close at 10:30pm.
Cons: a little dated, poor/fair mat conditions, poor lighting, light balls but for obvious reasons so they float. -

They are open until 10pm so you can go late if you wanted to. It's nice because you are hitting into water instead of grass but it is kind of hard to tell just how far you're hitting since the yardage signs are painted on the floor and most of them are worn off.
It's never too crowded so you can always find a good spot to practice. The bad thing is that there are lots of bugs flying around, a little distracting. -

For a local driving range its not bad. The prices are more than reasonable compared to other ranges in the area. Especially since we go to the range almost daily if we're not playing on the course.
The nicest thing about Islands is that they're open until 10pm daily so for those of you who work or simply like hitting a few balls after dinner like we do..this is the only place to go.
Some of the mats are old and beat up and some are pretty new. Either way conditions are pretty decent.
Note: Around 7pm when the sun is going down it gets hard to see the ball. It kind of gets lost in the horizon line. Once its dark its fine though. The lighting is pretty ok for the place. -

Frustrated with playing Golden Tee at the local Pizza Joint and getting kicked out because I was punching and screaming at the machine. I took my Tiger Wood ass over to Islands Golf Center. I've been eyeing this place for a while because I'd drive pass it everyday from work.
Now you can't help but get flashbacks of Caddie Shack and Happy Gilmore scenes when you're at this place. I mean the putting green is the most sorriest thing I've ever seen! It's like they purposely leave it alone so people could actually laugh at it.
The attendant that handed me over my Large Bucket of balls, $7.50 is pretty El Primo Cheapo, didn't even bother greeting me! Pretty much looked at me with total and utter disrespect. Dude..Not my fault you're a loser handing out balls while I have my fun whacking them!
Anyways, made my way over to one of the 30+ stalls. I instinctively choose the furthest stall because my friend Miller and Lite was chillen in my bag waiting to see the light of day.
Now what I like about Islands is that they have..well..Islands to aim for. You have BIG islands at 180 yards. small itty bitty islands 30 yards out. If you feel so inclined wait for the boat dude to retrieve the balls out of the murky water and just take aim!
-----------------
Rye's Notes:
- Balls are lighter and not standard golf balls because..drum roll..it floats
- Bring alcohol and chill at the furthest stalls. "Serious" golfers are at the entry way
- Bring a jacket it could get a bit cold at nightListed in: The Bubble ..a.k.a Orange…

Unique experience, but there are a few pros and cons...if you're bored outta your mind with expensive places or shitty places, and want a fun range experience try it out...
To the review 2 below me: The islands are real, they are floating plastic islands, why would they sink, wouldn't Hawaii sink with all the rain they have based on your train of thought...strange, not cute or clever FYI.
-Great way to test your aim, distance, and club selection skills
-Super fun place to get competitive with your homies and have some playful contest
-Mats suck, not "real" balls, as they must float to work with the place...
-Lots of spaces, lights at night
-NEW REAL Grass Putting Green
-Insider tip- Absolutely fantastic SHORT GAME course! (when its open and maintained properly) You almost miss it coming in and out of the parking lot
-Ask about their packages, if you spend some dough, you can get a LARGE bucket down to like $4.50, worth it! -
Review from Just us ..
Garden Grove, CA
It was dark...and gloomy...
I wonder what happens when it rains and the water level rises... do the islands disappear?
Overall it was ok, but being close to the far-side, it was rather dark and you can only see the islands, nothing beyond it. The balls plop then float.. that was interesting. I guess the cost for the basket of balls is average. -

Good for hitting balls, and aiming at targets, bad for learning how your shots will finish with bounces and rolls. Lots of bugs at night...

Do you suck at life? Do you think it would suck less if you came here and stroked some white balls into a watery abyss? You know, you're right, you would feel better. I came here and felt pretty good and I like that you can take your beer and hit some balls with the utmost ferocity.
I'm not a driving range connoisseur but if I was I'd say this place is... par for the course. Funny, right? No? Go eat a golf ball after you've come here, then. -

reasonable prices and fun to go mess around with friends. only problem is at dusk the bugs come out and you lose sight of your ball on the hoizon.

This place is fun to come out with friends and hit some balls. I love the concept! It's always great when you're the first to hit the target island! Nothing fancy but definitely worth at least one visit. Great date spot!

Great place to practice your swing. Even more fun with friends and a little competition (to see who can make it onto each island). Staff is friendly and always willing to answer questions. Nice putting green and chipping area across the road. Small golf shop, but it carries whatever you might need.

I give it "FORE!" stars...get it? It's easy to get to, the staff is helpful.. not overly helpful.. just kind of... there...-ish. The islands are neat, seems reasonably maintained except for the putting green whatever the fuck that is... is that a joke? Anyway, you come here to drive, and if you do that before 10am, you get the early bird special.. large bucket five bucks, can't beat that with an R9 Driver... But neither can I, that's why I come here a lot, because I need practice. They do need more awnings though because when it gets sunny it's like you're standing in hell, which exacerbates your already terrible abilities.

La Mirada, CA
This place is a wreck. I would never go back. The guy at the counter was a jerk. The place is just tore up. We ended up walking to the end to try and find a decent place to hit. The greens are worn down to the rubber and the 'range servants' are all broken. Everything is old and run down, not to mention the bad customer service...it's overpriced for what it is. Take your business elsewhere.

the concept of this place is unique to say the least. once you're past that then there is nothing special about this place. i gave it three stars because they have a small roger dunn here which is nice. nothing fancy just the bare bones. i still practice here.

This place is so much fun! I went twice in the same weekend, and it was my first experience at a driving range. The employees were very prompt and helpful. Even though it was a gorgeous sun-filled weekend, my friend and I were both able to easily find spots to practice. It's a great value for your money!
