Royal Oak, MI
I adore the Inn Place. Small, great atmosphere, excellent service and so much fun! I will admit that I'm not that into karaoke, but you actually don't have to be to enjoy yourself. Watching the patrons of Inn Place singing is entertaining enough. Maybe some day I will get over my post-Grease solo singing disaster and sing in public again.
Inn Place had a decent beer selection and definitely doesn't stick with the limited selection of PBR and watery beers that sometimes comes with a dive bar. Drinks were not watery.
To make things even better, they have a mannequin in the front entry that they dress up according to the seasons. It's delightful.
One of my favorite new dives in RO. -

Cozy little bar nestled just down a block or so from the intersection at Main and 11 Mile? Excellent. Was in town for a wedding and met friends from college at the bar, and was pleasantly surprised by The Inn Place. I ordered two hard ciders, and if memory serves me, the bill was fairly inexpensive, even after tax and tip. The waitress was really friendly, and apparently a friend of an acquaintance, which always makes for interesting conversation. Better yet? They had karaoke. So fun, would definitely return.

I went there on a Friday night. They had Karaoke and we all had a great time!

Ventured here on a chilly autumn Friday night from my buddy's house a half mile away. Great atmosphere. It's small but it has an awesome dive bar vibe. Drinks are cheap. They have great craft brews on tap. Definitely worth checking out if you want to get away from the Downtown Royal Oak scene for a night.

Absolutely terrible! Only go there if you like waitresses on a power trip ignoring you and kicking you out for no reason. I have worked in many bars and have never thought of treating paying customers that way. Business must be good for them to allow there employees to abuse customers. Total dump. Don't go there!

Love when they open at seven for the midnight crew can have a brew after a long shift!!!

This is my favorite place in Royal Oak. Great, friendly neighborhood atmosphere. Lester, the owner, is one of the kindest people I've ever met. He always makes an effort to make us feel welcome and appreciated. Skip the big bars in Downtown and check this place out!!

Good service, greasy food, nice beer selection, and pitch black inside. The perfect dive!

Came here last night for an old co-worker's going away party. As soon as I walked in I felt like I had just been teleported to New Awlins! I mean it looked like Mardi Gras came through and threw up in there! There were beads, and streamers and signs and the whole shebang! The place is really quaint but they had plenty of room to accommodate our party of 18 :)
Our waitress was awesome, I can't remember her name, but she was great, she didn't even mind everyone being on separate tabs, which is quite unusual at most restaurants/bars with a party as big as ours. I had a Labatt light on draft and then everyone got a round of red headed-sluts which tasted amazing. Their food menu is typical bar food: chicken tenders, fries, mozzarella sticks, wings, reubens, grilled cheese, etc. I wasn't very hungry so I tried my friends fries which were definitely made fresh cuz you could see the potato skin still on some of the fries. They were crisp and lightly salted to perfection. Their mozzarella sticks however were kinda small and tasted like fish sticks with cheese in them... My friend really liked his chicken tenders though.
Don't be fooled by the cigarette vending machine in the corner, this place is surprisingly not smokey! And although only one stall, their bathrooms are also VERY clean for a corner pub.
The crowd here is more 30-50ish but it's a damn good place to get a brewski and chat with friends over a basket of fried mushrooms! -

For what it is (a small neighborhood-type bar) this is as good as it gets. It's a hole in the wall kind of place, only clean. There's also karaoke with a lot of regulars who know how to sing, so it can be pretty entertaining. Menu is small, but pretty good! I love the veggie burger.
Go on/near a holiday, any holiday. Their decorations are over the top and awesome, but somehow not tacky. I think you need to see it not decorated first to really appreciate the difference.
Love it! -

Found this spot on a random search, thanks Yelp App! I originally traveled out to Livonia for Mediterranean but that restaurant just changed owners and wasn't open. I'll digress on that place and review it later.
I'm not a cheapskate but I'll take free parking in Royal Oak anytime. The Inn isn't located right downtown either which can be a plus as well.
Idono, I liked the place the minute I walked through the door. It was rather dark inside, and although small, it was only about half full at 6:30 on a Wednesday evening.
A taller slender and I'll add cute women waited our table. She was pleasant and provided good service.
The Chicken Wings: Good, and not too greasy. They tasted like regular chicken, only they were much smaller. I prefer hot wings, but no biggie.
Mini Tacos: Pretty darn good! Again, not greasy. They may have been out of the freezer but didn't taste frozen to me.
Potato Skins good.
Onion Rings good.
Beer cold.

Royal oak's Inn Place is an unexpected and quite hidden gem. The tiny white building on Main Street is easy to pass by, but once you've had some greasy snacks, enjoyed the company of the welcoming regulars and bartenders, and dump a few bucks of quarters into the awesome jukebox, you'll certainly always remember where it is.
This tiny bar, with low light and no fancy martinis, shot girls dressed in bikinis is the perfect place to go when you just wanted to grab some drinks with friends, listen to some tunes, or get in a little or lot of karaoke.
I'm not sure how I first stopped into the Inn Place, but I'm certainly glad I did. The bartender greeted us with genuine hellos and the other bar goers with warm smiles. My mixed drink was not only well made, but well priced. Oh, and the jukebox!!! This is probably the fanciest thing in the joint! It is loaded with everything from Brandi to Blondie to Johnny Cash to Al Green. It's awesome and makes fro a wonderful casual experience.
On Fridays, this marvelous bar offers karaoke and although I've never been, I've gotten word that it's a pretty slammin' time. And if the karaoke selection is anywhere near the jukebox selection, I'm sold.
So, for those of you who are looking for a great local bar with no over the top umbrella drinks on fire, the Inn Place is a comfy and cozy joint to relax, rock out to some tunes, and sip a few brews. -

Royal Oak, MI
This is a fun little dive local bar I enjoy going to on occasion when Im in town. I usually get rockstar parking by the door to I go for Karaoke nights which are Thurs and Sat. They have good grilled cheese sammiches and mac and cheese fried bites. Drinks arent to strong but mad well to make your spirits high. Bartenders aren't friendly enough until you go there often. People who go there are usually locals and pretty friendly and encouraging if you sing. I always feel like a rockstar when I go. I never had a bad time there and would rather hit that place up or Luna then going to a rowdy bar around Royal Oak.

I've never actually been here for "normal" business hours, just early in the morning at the end of a long midnight shift. The place opens at 7am Monday-Saturday with a small breakfast menu. It's the perfect place unwind after work, I'm sure the same holds true for the rest of the day.

I can't remember the price range because I was drinking. I do remember the place being awesome and the people being nice. I thought it was too small for a karaoke machine at first but I was wrong. The drinks were great. Also, you can leave your car there overnight with no problem in case you, like I, was drinking...a lot. Also, walking distance from a Leo's Coney Island.
I can't wait to go back. -

My friend with two first names and I got drunk here a few times. As far as Royal Oak goes, this place is the best place to get drunk. The drinks are cheap, the food is good, and the service is very friendly. I kind of want to get drunk now after thinking of this place. In fact, I'm going to.

Two words: mini tacos. Okay, one more word: karaoke.
I have a friend who WHENEVER I want to hang out with him, he says, "Meet me at the Inn Place." At first I was annoyed, like, why does this guy only hang out at the Inn Place.
Well, he can walk there -- a GREAT quality in a bar, wish I had that -- but now I can't wait to go meet him at the Inn Place.
It's really small, but the bartenders are so nice and they remember you the next time you come in.
Great cold beer, great hot mini tacos. And grilled cheese. Mmmmm, the grilled cheese. Great chili, too. Actually, I haven't had anything I didn't like. Nothing too healthy, however.
Thursday and Saturday nights are karaoke and it is a-mazing. The sign in slips, get this, AREN'T slips. You just step up to a keyboard, type in the first few letters of an artist or song name, browse around for a bit, choose your song and type your name. Then, they seriously put the queue (thanks, Netflix, for introducing Americans to this term) up on the screen after/before every song.
If you like to have a beer in a laid-back atmosphere - and let's face it, who doesn't? - there's no possible way you can be disappointed by the Inn Place.
Also, the 17-year-old joint just got a cute-as-pie makeover inside, complete with black subway tiles behind the bar, a nice navy paint job, big flatscreen TVs, and a huge sturgeon (swordfish?) on the wall.Listed in: Yummy When I Don't Have Money

This is a good locals bar. The bartenders are friendly, introduce themselves, and make a genuine effort to get to know their customers. Their bar food is perfectly fine for bar food. Plus, their Friday night karaoke is pretty entertaining, though the place can be packed for this.

Great bar! Very unique mix of everything. Decent food, including microwave popcorn, good drinks. Reasonably priced and karaoke around the weekends, what more could you ask? Newly remodeled too...

Love the well-concealed Inn Place -- reminds me of my polish grandparents' steelworker bar in East Chicago, transplanted to a detroit suburb. Good drinks, great gutbomb snacks.

Gotta give it up for the best dive bar in Royal Oak! (And yes, i mean the best over gusoline alley!). This is a place that you can sing karaoke, drop your peanut shells on the ground and let loose. Sometimes they have open mic night which is just awesome. The food isn't anything special - but it is your delicious bar food that tastes great after a few brews! This is just a little place to go out when you don't feel like doing anything with your hair, face or outfit. Just a great place to relax and have fun!!

Review from juston m.
i find myself in a karaoke mood every once in a while and when that happens i choose saturday night at the inn place.
i found myself becoming slightly a regular a few years back and wasn't too unhappy with that prospect. lately i haven't been that often, but it is still a place i like to stop in.
as far as the food goes, it isn't the best ever, but its wonderful after 2 pitchers of labatts. as far as the location, its down by hollywood market, away from the congestion of royal oak and has its own parking.
the regulars are serious about karaoke here and the system they have probably has the most songs i have ever seen. you will be entertained.
the bar itself is pretty small, but somehow seems to fit 50-75 people inside. the bathrooms, which are a weird thing to review, are small and very clean. its always nice to go in the men's room and not smell urine.
the drinks are very cheap for royal oak standards. the crowd is surprisingly anti-drama, always a good thing at a bar.
hopefully you get jane the waitress when you go. she wasn't there last time i went, but i think she's still around. she's a little grumpy, a little rough around the edges and looks a lot like the lady from "throw mama from the train" or mamma fratelli from "the goonies", but she always remembers people and she always gets the orders right. and this is a lady who is the only waitress in the whole joint.
a good place to restore your faith that not all of royal oak has lost its personality.
love, juston -

No gimmicks, no frills. Crazy karaoke, cramped space, fried snacks, decent beer and great staff. The kind of place many people would like to consider as one of the "locals" or regulars. Get there early or stand all night.

I don't drink much, I rarely eat bar food, I dislike most bars and I never experienced karaoke until this month. I came to the Inn Place last weekend, however, to attend a karaoke fund-raiser for a former colleague. My children and I had a fantastic time. The karaoke was a hoot and the guy who ran it was very friendly, as were the bar patrons who helped my family learn the karaoke system. The Inn Place staff and management were friendly and helpful, and we felt welcome and comfortable. I would definitely come here again for a special event or during regular business hours.

The best thing I can say about the IP is they know how to decorate. Every "holiday" looks great. However, service and food are quite variable. Sometimes the place is full with no waitstaff except the bartender and service is glacially slow. The food can go from "pretty good" to dry and badly-cooked. I used to go there a lot, but no more. I don't have the patience or the stomach.
