This is my go-to place for home improvement and garden. Whether it's a new sink, paint, electric drill or plants, I never had issue getting them here. The prices seems to be cheaper on many of the items compared to Lowe's or Orchard Supplies. The staffs here are very friendly and knowledgeable and the hours are great. I never had issues with my returns but they will give you cash back on cheaper items even if you paid with a credit card.
Overall, this is a good Home Depot and they also have a food stand in front that sells a variety of food and drinks. -

Its BIG, expansive and huge inside lots of shelves many items great deals, you can build anything. But no one around to help you. I stopped by to give these guys on more chance at my hard earned dead presidents for one blind for a master bedroom.
Went to the isle #8 for blinds, found what I needed, also to be custom cut. Waited, waited, waited ( shaved and ironed a shirt ), to locate someone with a vest that said HOME DEPOT! I saw customers walking around with that stare like I had, heck I could have made a chili in a crock pot while I waited.
Walked to the customer service desk, asked to them to send someone to the blind department. Waited, waited, waited ( cooked dinner, ate and cleaned up ) still no one. Went to the paint department asked to send someone to the blind department. Waited, and waited took a nap, picked my nose and still no one. That's it you will never seen my old bones in a HOME DEPOT again. Terrible customer service, prices aren't all that great and the chili was really bad!
And you wonder why these types of big box stores are suffering!

I just spent over six thousand dollars on windows and had them delivered. Oh, wait, only a couple showed up. the rest were in the warehouse and they forgot to deliver them. This rating is for the lousy customer contact. My windows have been in but know one called me to tell me they were in. They told me they would deliver in the morning 8-12. Nobody showed up. I called at 11:30 and was told they would be there at 12. Well it's 1:30 and still know one showed up. has anyone ever heard of a phone call and say "we will be late".

I can always count on helpful employees at this store. I generally have a very negative experience at hardware store but Home Depot seems to go really care about helping me find what I need. The variety is somewhat limited on different items, but I can always count on getting thing at a decent price.

I tried to return two storage shelves I bought from Home Depot this morning. The storage shelves are too heavy to download from my car to a cart. I asked the woman at the Return Desk for help. She called someone to come out to help me. 10 min passed, and nobody showed up. 15 min passed and still nobody showed up. The woman seemed unconcerned. I asked her to call again. 20 min passed, and there was nobody. Finally, at 25 min someone came up.
The woman at the Return Desk was completely unconcern. She did not care how long I wait. Long waiting for someone to help at this Home Depot appears to be normal to this woman.
It was not that they were short of manpower. I saw many men wearing Home Depot uniform walking around inside the store. Anyone of them could have helped me.
The service at this store is one of the worst.Comment from Stephanie H. of The Home Depot 9/9/2010

Yay! They are totally sprucing up the service. I wanted to stain my vanity. The girl in the paint department (I wish I had asked her name) was super helpful. She helped me compile the materials, gave detailed instructions on the project and was flat out wonderful. I'll get her name next time, as the service makes or breaks this store. I also met a very helpful gentleman for the questions on lights etc. Overall, its improving. BTW, had a surprisingly good grilled cheese at the "cafe" outside, with tomatoes, jalapenos and cilantro!

I've always had a minor passion for building things, and Home Depot has always been close by. But recently I've been needing more parts and materials for my new house.
In the past I've always felt a bit intimidated by sheer mass of supplies, but after about 25 return trips for various, I feel that I am getting much more familiar with the store. I can understand why some people might feel annoyed and lost in the store because it's so large and some of the isles are not marked. But once you've been there as many times as I have, its like a grocery store.
The employees at Home Depot that I appreciate the most are Lenora in the Flooring Dept., Amanda R, in the Paint Dept., and Amanda N, one of the check out clerks. They've all been very helpful and friendly, never cross or rude. Also Michael in the Appliances dept. was very pleasant and direct. He got to the point for exactly what was needed for home delivery and parts.
Notes: If you feel intimidated by the store, don't be afraid to ask any Rep for help. A cheerful disposition will be quickly responded to. If you stand with a puzzled look on your face near the restrooms at the back of the store, you will likely get help quickly.Comment from Stephanie H. of The Home Depot 10/11/2010

After braving rush hour traffic and spending two hours at Lowes and Home Depo tonight, neither one had a outdoor firewood holder. It is now November and the boy scouts have already taken orders so wake up! I found it particularly annoying that both stores have plenty of room for xmas stuff but not enough for what people actually go there fo I went to lumber to buy some fence posts so my trip wouldn't be a total waste and they were all cracked. I am disgusted!

I certainly have a love/hate relationship with Home Depot...
Now - it's not necessarily this location itself, but the store policies that they have which I find unreasonable.
During the Thanksgiving weekend, my water heater decided to break down. I had originally replaced the water heater in my home back in 2002 - a brand new GE 40 gallon tank which was rated "best" back then. It had a 12 year warranty. It was within the warranty period - what was the problem?
In order for me to get a store credit towards a replacement water heater, I needed to bring the broken one into the store. Catch is - Home Depot does not provide a water heater installation service.
I explained to them that my significant other was away for the weekend, I drove a Mini Cooper, I have no tools to unbolt a 40 gallon tank from my garage wall much less lift the entire thing by myself to bring it back to the store. (This brings some comical visuals doesn't it?)
I did get my dilemma solved - but not thanks to Home Depot - and I did eventually get to take a shower.2 Previous Reviews: Show all »

Not going back to this store ever...
For PAINT ask for RUBY or ANYONE other than "Steve-o". You'll recognize him by his giant presence, loud voice and abrasive comments. My husband and I went in to get paint for our house and brought in an ICI Master Palette fan deck to get a color match. Steve said, "ICI...never heard of it." He dismissed our color choice and choice of sheen for the room we were painting. He didn't suggest another option, he straight up dismissed us as not being knowledgeable enough to pick the right paint!
By this point my hackles were up and I was really looking forward to leaving the store. As my husband was at the counter trying to convince this guy that we indeed wanted the color and sheen we had originally chosen, I went around the corner to get a gallon of paint for the color match, and "Steve-o" actually YELLED at me to come back, because I guess he had to pick the right bucket of paint himself. As I was out of earshot he said to my husband, "If she's like my girlfriend, she won't listen." WTF?! This person should not be in customer service unless you're trying to drive away business.
We came back a second time once we'd settled on a color for the rest of the interior, and unfortunately had to deal with Steve again. My husband was looking at a display of large paint stirrers (since we were buying a 5-gal bucket of paint this time), and asked me if we should get one. Steve piped up, saying, "I'll give you one. Hell, take two - one for you and one for her." I'm not exactly sure what he meant by that comment, but it sounded inappropriate. That was when Ruby, a trainee at the time, stepped in and managed to save the transaction by being thoroughly kind, patient and helpful.
My advice to anyone out there looking for paint is to AVOID this store altogether and go to Lowe's down the street. -

SCUM SCAM SCUM!!!
Long long time ago my water heater broke. I went to my neighborhood home depot and tried to get a premium grade replacement...
HD: "GE... 12 year warranty...you cant go wrong"
ME: "OK do you work with a recommended installer?"
HD: "Sure, It's "Water heaters only". You need to pay for a permit in addition to parts and labor"
Signed the contract paid the big bucks, then came a guy who gouged me another few hundred bucks on the spot for bracing, pan, etc and he almost destroyed my main shutoff with a hammer and I had to threaten to call the cops if he didnt stop. That was a story of the past.
Fast forward lil less than 9 years. Water heater decided to turn into Bellaggio magic water show this am...and then starts the mental gymnastics
Me thinks, "Aha, it's got a 12 year warranty. I am covered"
Called home depot and they said "NO I cant find your record. Do you have the contract?"
ME: "Well I have the receipt, the water heater serial number, and the contract with me. (haha)"
HD: "Hello... I can't hear you... hello, let me transfer you to the department that can look up the receipt maybe.... BEEEP BEEP BEEP, you have been transferred to an invalid extension...."
Heck I should call GE...
GE: "What's your serial number?... oh sorry to hear that. You can bring it to home depot between 8 to 5 for a full refund but we don't cover the labor"
OK at least something is covered so i thought. Off to HD I go.
HD: "Well your heater is over a year and you didnt buy the extended coverage plan so we can only refund you a credit towards the purchase of a new water heater."
"Extended??? The guy who sold the install contract to me never mentioned extended. He said the heater is covred for 12 years. Anyway do you work with an installer?"
"yes we do. It's Fast water heater at 866 673 5933 in fact they stock these water heaters at their warehouse."
FAST: "$329 for labor, $300 for environmental fee and license, $106 for parts."
ME: "Huh??? I thought the last time we installed it everything was brought up to spec with all the additionals I paid? $300 environmental? parts?"
FAST: "well that was the spec in 2002 but as of 2009 you need to bla bla bla"
ME: "environmental fee?"
FAST: "Well there is this new greenhouse gas legislation..."
(WHO THE HELL ARE YOU TRYING TO KID YOU SCAMMER????")
ME: "What about the old water heater under warranty? Are you going to help us haul it back to HD for a refund?"
FAST: "No we don't do that."
After searching around we found a nice gentleman whoz willing to do it for a reasonable price and help us haul the GE water heater to HD.
HD, "We can only give you partial credit of max $200."
ME: "YOU SOLD ME THE BILL OF GOODS AND YOU WONT HONOR THE WARRANTY. NOW I AM A FEW HUNDRED BUCKS INSTALL FEE OUTTA POCKET AND YOU WONT EVEN HONOR GE'S WARRANTY?"
Well, we got our credit back but not without a lengthy argument with the manager.

Needed a house key made on a sunday before monday. After failed attempts at two other locations, I spent 3 hours round trip on the bus to get to this Home depot. The lady was real nice and gave me a free upgrade because they were out of "regular" keys. I got home and the keys she made me don't work. A waste of $4 (no big deal) and 3 hours on my only day off (big deal) and now no way to lock my house monday. (Huge deal.) I held the copies to the original, they're not even the same shape. I should have checked that before I leave, but you guys should definitely have noticed it wasn't an exact copy before I left :( I want to give an extra star for how nice the employee was, but I'm really disappointed I wasted so much time and some money.

Expecting the staff at Home Depot to know enough to be able to help customers is like expecting great doctors at Kaiser. In most cases, you have to do all your own research beforehand, then do the thinking for them.
The staff are mostly eh, sometimes really friendly and many times really crappy (as another Yelper pointed out, they act like they can't speak so they don't have to help you). So, I only go there if I know for sure what I'm looking for and where to find it.
It sucks that it has to be that way because the store is so vast and can be time-consuming to navigate when you're buying an item for the first time. Of course it would be better if the workers knew more, like indicated in their commercials. I mean, really. A few times they have tried. They've searched aisle after aisle for precisely the wrong thing. Upon the 15th or so explanation of what something is, I'd rather just look for it myself or online.
Speaking of online, this is one area where HD knows their stuff, in my experience. They offer free shipping on many items that I buy regularly. And otherwise, the shipping has been reasonable. I love that! Saves me the hassle of know-nothing staff at the store, and don't have to stand there while four gossipy butt-crack-exposed employee girls chat amongst themselves like the people waiting in line are invisible.
I've had really great luck with their rug bin. Picked up two 5' x 8' rugs for $20 each -- never seen that size at that price in fashion colors/patterns. That even kicks Big Lots' ass, which is a tall order! They've held up for going on two years despite being claw-sharpening stations for some very active cats.
I love their gardening department when they have their new haul for early Spring -- hot damn! You don't want to get in the way of my shopping cart when I'm on the trail of new selections to work my green thumb. Hands off my chocolate cosmos and blue delphinium, baby! There are also lots of landscaping trees and bushes for curb appeal staging at a good price! If you know when you're going on the market or having an appraisal done, plant ahead of time to give them a chance to fill in.
Hint: you want to sell a house, plant yellow flowers. It won't compensate for a bad market or overpricing, but yellow is the most memorable color. Ever notice that model homes always have marigolds planted out front? (Assuming it's spring and they're in season) Plus they're cheap! Watch out for snails!
The less common plants sell out SO fast. Why wouldn't they -- the varieties are awesome and the prices are so much better than most anywhere -- and you can pick up whatever other home supplies you need at the same time? I also love their selection of soils, manure, and mulch. Yep, that's me with the stinky, gorgeous front yard, thanks in large part to HD.
Once in a while I'm lucky to find an employee who's a gardening snob like me. That's always best 'cause I learn something. People who can't teach me anything about what I'm buying bore me to death. Yeah, I can read the little spikes that come with the plant, but it's not the same as being pointed to a certain plant by someone who knows that in this climate, this one is likely to make it through the winter and a certain one probably won't. I've had better luck with staff in the gardening area at HD than at OSH.
In summary: for a good shopping experience at HD, don't expect the staff to know anything. Be pleasantly surprised when they do know something. If you can comfortably get their merchandise online, do that. If you want plants other than the standard box store fare, hurry in during March (or whenever the first sunny week or two of the season happens to be) or risk missing out.Listed in: Home Prep, Best Place to Shop, Bathroom Renovations

We ordered our VIPLEX windows through this Home Depot. The guy in windows was fairly helpful. The VIPLEX contractors did a good job and we are very happy with our windows, 5 years later.
We've had several custom colors of paint done at this location and the main guy (forget his name) was knowledgeable and helpful.
We also bought our hardwood cherry floors here and installed them ourselves. We didn't buy enough the first time so we had to go back and found that the rest of their supply was way up on the very top shelf of those tall shelves. It took them 45 minutes to get enough staff to block off that aisle, bring in the forklift and lift down 2 more boxes for us.
We were lucky and got a really good deal on a washer and dryer one weekend. I can't remember how it happened but the person in that department was very knowledgeable and was definitely interested in helping us to save some money.
The people in the garden department are stupid (yea that was blunt).
I have to say that half of the people who work here don't give a hoot about their jobs or customer service.
For this location, you have to know what you want, what you are looking for and how to do the things that you want to do in order to get what you need in this store.
I do like the self checkout service esp when I have smaller items and not a huge stack of 15 foot long boards or pipes.... -

I had more bad experiences here than I can even remember. I'll tell you one story of several...
I found a Weber grill on their website, but I wanted it delivered to Home Depot to save on shipping. So I went to pick it up and they lost it. The customer service desk had no clue what I was even talking about - had no idea you could even order online and pick up at the store!
So I ordered it - AGAIN - through the store this time. The customer service rep took the information down that I had (Sku #, etc) and apparently placed the order. So 2 weeks go by and I never heard back. I call and ask what the status is...they don't have the order!
Of course, I flip out and talk to the manager. Make a long story short, I finally got the grill - a MONTH after I ordered it online. And I never went back to that Home Depot again.Listed in: My 1 Stars

This experience has put me off Homedepot for life. I had gone to the Sunnyvale Homedepot today to pick up a patio table. The very nice girl at the checkout counter looked it up and told me that they had two of those in stock. My husband and I looked around and couldnt find it. So we went to the services desk and tried to get them to see if they had any. First of all the lady! there was reluctant to get up. But she came and started looking and couldnt see anything. Another guy, supposedly the manager was looking for it and said he couldnt find it. My husband noticed that there were some boxes on the top shelf which said wrought iron table. But we couldnt see the name. So we told her to ask somebody to bring it down so we could check. She said the Manager (the other guy looking for it) didnt want to bring it down/open it as it might not be the one.
Is this customer service for you? They turn a paying customers away because they cannot do their job. The girl kept trying to convince us that the box was too small and then she was afraid we would call the manager so she kept insisting that guy was the manager. The ads show that they are very helful but they are not. They should take down the ads. I am disgusted by such bad service
After this review i am going to call their complaint department and complain about them. -

As much as I love home improvement mega stores, I often find the employee service and knowledge to be almost nonexistent. That was certainly NOT the case during my last trip, as I was blown away by nearly every home depot employee I interacted with during my lengthy visit!
First I met Kliff, a friendly manager who helped me cut lumber while I waited for their primary lumber associate, Jun. Now, it's not often that I'm impressed by folks doing their standard job, but Jun seriously impressed me. This fellow left his lunch early to help me, and was apologetic that he didn't arrive sooner! He helped me quickly whip together a cut list that saved me time, money and reduced waste!! I was confident I had to use two sheets of plywood for my job, but with some clever questions about my construction goals, he found that by reducing a cut by a mere 1" (an acceptable deviation in my case), he was able to fit all my cuts in one sheet. AWESOME! How often does an employee go out of his way to save a customer money like that? Jun is seriously sharp, and he was able to bust out all my cuts almost as quickly as he expertly designed my cut list. My hat's off to him, he's a great guy!
Later in my visit, I met Larry. This guy is about as friendly as can be, and helped me pick out the exact carpeting I needed for my job. Once again, I was impressed at how much thought these people put in to their customer service. Instead of just cutting the amount I asked (which was a total guess on my part), he said "well hey, let's think this through together! I use to do projects like this all the time!" It was really great to connect with a guy like this, and truly topped of my visit with a smile.

This location is easy to get to by taking the Fair Oaks exit from Central Avenue. The service here is marginally better than the Santa Clara location. Service will always be better at OSH (I haven't tried Lowe's).
Home Depot in general: They will probably have whatever you are looking for from a hardware store, and you can sometimes find someone to help you locate it. The store and the selection are both huge. They don't offer zero-VOC paints and various other eco-friendly alternatives. The garden center is good, but I prefer the lifetime guarantee offered by OSH. I find that most Home Depots smell bad, like a construction site, and this one is no exception. -

I'm going to write a similar review for Home Depot Sunnyvale and the one in San Carlos. We bought many things in both places as we prepared to move into our new home.
Home Depot has a reputation to be hard to deal with because it's hard getting helped and difficult finding what you're looking for. Here's what's hard at Home Depot. The people struggle with their computer and ordering systems. But if you're patient and really willing to be helped, there are very competent people there who try their best to make you happy. And the prices are very good too. -

Tonight reminds me of why I can't stand Home Depot. I needed something but Lowe's did not have it. So, I decided to try Home Depot because it is just a few blocks away. I arrive at 9:50pm and all the doors are locked. Employees are walking around inside cleaning up but no one would let me in even though the store hours specifically states that they are open until 10pm. And even when they do let you in, nobody ever offers to help you and are rarely friendly. It's as if I'm bothering them with a question. What a freaking joke! I'll stick to Lowe's from now on no matter how desperate I am for something.

We've spent hundreds of dollars here over dozens of visits, and we keep coming back. It ain't perfect, and some of the bins are disorganized, but overall it's got so many of the things we need for remodeling and fixing our house and garage, that it turns out to be a good place to go. Lowe's has a better selection of upscale, decorative stuff. Home Depot has all the basics. Barron Park Supply has the best plumbing selection.
Home Depot staff are all friendly. The ones who work day time during the week seem the most knowledgable, and if there isn't one around I've found that during those hours the other customer in the plumbing aisle is usually a plumber full of knowledge, an electrician in the electrical aisle. Weekends are more hit-and-miss for knowledgable staff.
They've also made a policy to buy FSC certified lumber when available. It's good to see a large firm making environmentally positive changes, since big companies have big impacts. -

First, it's probably a bad sign if this Home Depot is off Fair Oaks in the middle of nowhere? I mean, Kifer is a major street, but this Home Depot is pretty much hidden.
Second, it's another bad sign if everyone in the store is either unwilling to help, or act like they don't speak and they're mutes.
Third, it's another bad sign if their machine either doesn't work, or they use it so little that they forget how to operate it.
My boyfriend and I came here to pick up a few blinds that were put on hold for us by another Home Depot which happened to run out. We were told to ask for Marita (spelling?). We went straight to the flooring counter, and we ran into a man sitting behind the counter, so we asked him if Marita was there. He just looked at us and said that she was coming. We waited a few moments, and then I asked him how he knew she was coming (she wasn't expecting us, and we didn't set a particular time to meet). He finally got off his chair and sauntered away. A few minutes later, he came back with her, and she greeted me (my boyfriend was away) with a surly 'yes?' and when I asked her about the blinds that were being held for us, she said she hadn't bothered getting the blinds yet and that the day was 'crazy' and that she'd go get it now. I asked her if she needed the dimensions for how we wanted it cut and she waved me off like I was some ignorant five year old. I told her I was going to run to the car to get the measurements and she said yeah, whatever, it'll take me five minutes to get the blinds and that she'd be back. I ran outside to the car, came back, and then my boyfriend and I dutifully waited. And waited. And waited some more. Finally, my boyfriend went to go look in the blinds aisle to see if we could maybe just buy the blinds and leave. He ran into her, and then she followed him back to where I was still waiting to say 'Hello? I've been waiting?' I was like, I thought you said you were coming back!
Her demeanor got considerably nicer after my boyfriend was around, and she spoke to him nicely, and when she spoke to me, she spoke in the same singsong voice but she would say things that implied she thought I was a dumb broad. She couldn't figure out how to cut the blinds, and ended up cutting them and measuring them wrong, and then in the end, she just gave us fresh ones and said the machine was broken and that we should go somewhere else.
The only redeeming part of the visit was that the manager of the store, Chaz, gave us 10% off the blinds since we were owed the discount from our previous blind purchases but we had to split the purchase due to the parts not being in the same store, which meant we didn't have the coupon anymore. -

It is interesting that I am here writing again this time on something unrelated to products but Home Depot's business itself, it reflects what we see in Corporate America. Some numbers, Home Depot's stock is at $33 and a market cap of 55 billion. Profitable company on a quarterly basis. Having said that I witnessed numerous times an old man (Maurie) who is about 70 loading these heavy items, I really felt sorry for this person whilst more able people are walking around aisles. I myself have helped the aged home depot customers who are not physically able to load some of the heavier items such as soil/fertilizer bags which weigh around 40 Lbs each. Being in the business they are in can't home depot put able people in this department, profits and greed are not the only things to consider when in business, welfare of employees and safety of customers is very important. I wonder if anyone will reach out to me as the last positive review prompted an acknowlegement from corporate. They have one aged person doing the loading and I feel bad when I shop and run into this all the time.

I stopped by here about a half an hour ago to buy some steel hanging wire to rig up my exhaust until I can afford to fix it. I expected to wander the isles for at least 20 minutes until I found what I needed. Instead, a Home Depot worker asked me if I needed help finding anything almost immediately. He walked me over to the item I wanted, then I told him that I needed something to connect it with and what I was trying to do with it. He totally understood ( I half expected a funny look) and suggested another product. Needless to say, I got the job done quick (because I'm here writing a review) and it seems sturdy. Thanks a bunch, Cory!

I've given up on this Home Depot. No service. I've been in this store a dozen times and have yet to get help from any employee. Such a contrast with the new Lowe's in Sunnyvale. At Lowe's they actually have people who will try to help you.

The location and prices are good. The service is horrible. Several long-time staff members are rude to customers. Nori talks to you like you are an idiot.
Since there are other options (Lowe's, OSH) nearby, I never go here anymore. I got great, helpful, friendly service at Lowe's. That is important when you go to huge stores like these and don't always know where things are. -

DO NOT BUY WINDOWS OR DOORS FROM THIS LOCATION.
It is a shame you can't give a negative number of stars. I give it one star because otherwise it won't get posted.
The millwork team are completely useless and unknowledgable.
The only guy who tried to help was the one who wasn't trained. He called for the resident expert (jerry) 3 times on the intercom. Finally, Jerry appeared only to say he will come back in a couple of minutes. He was in the middle of an "urgent customer issue". We followed him back to his customer only to find he was actually re-arranging some crap on one of the shelves. I was embarased for the guy who was trying to help.
I returned through the week, thinking I would meet someone more knowledgeable but it was more of the same. I asked some questions regarding patio doors and the answer were a bit suspect. So I called the window company directly when I got home. Long story short....the advice I recieved from home depot was wrong, really wrong. The window company hinted that they had issues with this location also.
