I love to support independently-owned, small businesses that are trying to make it in up and coming neighborhoods. Needless to say, I was very excited to find this place.

We found this place on http://Restaurant.com and decided to use a gift certificate on it. The website looked appealing, and I loved how close it was to where we live.

When we got there, the owner greeted and seated us, only to tell us he revamped his menu and was no longer taking the http://Restaurant.com certificates. However, we decided to stay because the menu still looked appealing and the prices were so affordable we couldn't have done much better anywhere else.

It turns out I'm very glad we stayed. The margarita I ordered was very strong, and well worth the cheap $5 I paid for it. We ordered the full rack of ribs, some chicken skewers, salads and some sides. A very fulfilling and satisfying meal with adult beverages turned out to be less than $40, which is certainly a rarity in any of the five boroughs.

The whole staff was very accommodating and made sure we were taken care of the entire meal. The owner came out to check on us repeatedly and told us where our food was whenever we wanted to know. When the food came out, it was delicious! The barbecue sauce was tangy and interesting and the food tasted authentic and homemade. The full rack of ribs was also massive, and splitting it between two of us was almost enough to fill up on.

Overall, I'm very glad to have found this place and just had a wonderful feeling as we left. The staff was very appreciative for our patronizing them and it always feels great to be appreciated for spending money somewhere, especially when the food that you're spending money on is so good. This place is definitely worth the ride on the jMZ into Brooklyn.

My boyfriend and I ate here a few weeks ago. The menu asks you to review them on yelp so here goes.

The food was great. I was a bit worried when we walked in. We were the only diners, one guy came to get take out while we were eating. The server seemed more like the owner. He didn't seem very comfortable as a waiter. He forgot silverware, things like that. He also forgot to charge us for our side of mac and cheese. But all in all he was friendly.

The chef with googles is no joke! The smokey smell is intense, but I guess that's the nature of hibachi.

The decor is cool, but they have spent some serious money on a sound system, fish tank, rainforest cafe inspired tree wall... think man cave. But the mop bucket was just sitting in the middle of the dining room. The place seemed a bit unfinished, but on the right track for tiki bar. Once they have their liquor liscense, this would be a neat place to hang out and drink something with a paper umbrella in it.

I had the tuna and boyfriend had a steak. Both were really good! The mac and cheese was some of the best i've had at a restaurant. Definitely the most promising aspect of this place.

Anyway, you can tell they are trying, and if they make it, this place is going to be awesome but for now they are still working out some kinks.

The owner, Lorien, was really nice and accomodating.

The omelette was delicious and the fluffiest thing next to the Bounce teddybear!

The ambiance is awesome, a nice faux tiki above the beautiful bathroom, dim red lighting, cozy booths to snuggle up next to your boo and lose yourself in the quite affordable drinks.

Adjustable tables that accomodate you if you're perching on a stool and lounging or sinking into the couch after you've gorged yourself on smoked BBQ

    $3 guava and mango mimosasa!!!!!!!

$3 guava and mango mimosas, that's awesome enough to list twice.

And live jazz with Sunday brunch among other performances, I just came from there and the band was veeeeerrrrrrry good, and friendly!

I'll definitely be back, maybe tonight for some BBQ!!

Remember the smoking ban? Apparently it does not apply to the kitchen here. Even the owner came out to greet us wearing goggles around his neck. The beers and wines are reasonably priced, but if you come expecting tropical drinks with cocktail umbrellas be warned there is no full liquor license. Luckily, the food was amazing.

I ordered the grilled coconut curry swordfish steak and my friend got the seared tuna. The swordfish was absolutely amazing. Moist but not raw, with just a touch of lime coconut curry on the outside. They were out of the coconut infused rice, but substituted my choice of side (mushrooms sauteed in white wine and butter). The waitress said most people had been ordering sandwiches (the lunch menu was still out, so I assume they were serving off that as well Saturday night?) and that she was interested to see the seafood.

My friend said the tuna was absolutely perfect, the best he's had in New York, and he'd eaten tuna at some  fancy Manhattan place the night before. The seared tuna was devine, prefectly pink in the middle as it should be. We snapped a picture because it looked gorgeous presented on a bed of spinach and orzo. He raved about the creamy orzo, and I snuck a bite and it was absolutely delish-like mac and cheese and risotto.

So here is the truth:  Tiki Hut needs better ventillation. It could be five stars for being cute and clean and reasonably priced and tasty and close to my house, but I left smelling like BBQ. My friends even said so at the next bar. On Sunday morning, I smelled smoke in my room and realized my Tokidoki bag had been grilled too. At first it's "mmm smokey yum" but after five minutes you're outside getting some fresh air.

Also, the booths are cozy, maybe even small. We sat at the high tables in the front which is cool for regular sized people, but I'm 5' and don't really like sitting in high chairs when I'm eating. Another reason to consider take-out.

Oh, and the bathroom has the most confusing set of buttons to raise and lower the door that I have ever encountered. It's so bad the menu has an explaination of how to get in and out of the bathroom on the front. Then there are signs at the bathroom on how to use the buttons. I wasn't even sure I did it right when I ducked out, apparently there is another button to raise it more but if you do it wrong you're going to shatter the sink. Bad planning. It looks really cool, but it depends on how much you love Indiana Jones if you're going to get in and out of there without frustration.

BUT THE FOOD IS SO GOOD. I'm even considering hopping on the J train during lunch today and trying a sammich, but take-out this time.

Went to check this place out after seeing the post about them on Bushwick Bk.  My friends and I were highly disappointed.  First off, they were severely understaffed with only one man serving as cook, host, and server.  This one man was none too friendly, nor concerned about the customer experience in the slightest.  I had to get us menus, napkins, etc.

The food was nothing to write home about either.  The steak on my steak sandwich was way overcooked and dry.  My friends weren't too crazy about their burgers either.  We will not be returning.

Great place with great food and a cool vibe.  I've played there a couple times with my jazz trio and the owners are always super chill and welcoming.  If I lived closer I would be there all the time just to have a hang and enjoy the food.  Definitely a killer place to go!

Courtney's review is pretty spot-on... I just got back from a PERFECT New York Strip. It was so tender and juicy. And the flavor - the wood-burning situation is definitely doing the trick! The front of the menu talks about their dedication to quality of meat and to cooking method - after eating the steak it was apparent that they're totally serious about both. Didn't use the bathroom, but laughed at the explanation of how to get in and out on the menu. I found it cute.
The bottom line is that we have ridiculously slammin, affordable steak right here in Bushwick.

This place has improved a lot.  Last time I was in here I had the ribs and they were pretty damn good.  They're glazed with a very unique homemade BBQ sauce that has hints of fruitiness in it.  If you're looking for standard BBQ go somewhere else.  If you want to try a different spin on BBQ come here.

Visited the Tiki Hut 3 days ago. Food was amazing. Great to have a different choice in the hood. The fish tank set-up is sick. Seating is a little tight but I am a big guy so I am use to that. Over All..Great Place. Owner was Cool..real down to earth. Food was fresh and healthy. Will go again ..and again..
