Nashville, TN
The Hermitage Hotel is Tennessee's only Forbes Five Star and AAA Five Diamond hotel., this hotel is over 100 years old and was beautifully renovated just a few years ago.
Even if your a local, it's worth stopping in just for the historic value.
Located smack downtown Nashville, within walking distance to TPAC (Tennessee Performing Arts Center), The War Memorial Auditorium, Tennessee State Capitol, the Bicentennial Mall, Bridgestone Arena and the Nashville Honkey Tonk District, 2nd avenue & Broadway.
The Capitol Grille is nestled inside as well as The Oak Room Lounge. -

The Hermitage Hotel was beautiful! It was a great location to the touristy streets (walking distance) which was really nice. The staff was extremely helpful, knowledgeable and and courteous. The hotel was beautiful and they have a really neat little "history" area with tid bits from the past.
Here's where I give the hotel 4 out of 5 and not 5 stars. We sat by the fire and had some wine and ordered food as well. The menu was okay, for my allergies there wasn't much for me to choose from. They were really nice trying to accommodate me but compared to their "sister" hotels, the menu was limited. At 2:00AM and 4:00AM there were couples SCREAMING and fighting in the hall. No one came upstairs to stop the fight which was frustrating.
Best part of the hotel, the cookies during the day and the muffins in the morning, delicious!! -

Rarely does a last minute hotel reservation rise to the level of perfection but our stay at the Hermitage did! From the telephone reservation to the bellman , front desk clerk and charming Justin who got us to our room, showed us the views and all we needed to know about the hotel . The hotel arranged massages as we had been driving all day and then made dinner reservations at the Capitol grille. ( the meal was good not perfect)
This is a beautiful hotel with an exceptional staff. I would return to Nashville just for a night here! -

What a beauty!
The Hermitage Hotel is not only grand but also very comfortable which is a combination that can be tough to pull off but they do it with such quiet grace.
My review is based off of attending the Share Our Strength benefit dinner here last weekend that was executed without a hitch. This is such a spectacular option to hosts small to large scale events such as weddings, special receptions, and fundraisers. The staff is professional and friendly while the spaces within this hotel offer up elegance and sophistication.
I truly appreciated the banquet servers too as they were very discreet and accommodating in ensuring that both my date (vegetarian) and my (vegan) diets were honored although the slated menu for the evening didn't reflect those options.
I am so impressed that I am tempted to treat myself to a weekend here to unwind and be pampered although it's just a few miles from my home!
TIP: This is a solid option to offer up to out of town guests as it is located near many attractions. -

Longview, TX
Great hotel in a town that I don't believe has many great hotels. As a matter of fact, this may be the only one.
The lobby is really picturesque. It is one-of-a-kind.
The rooms were nice, spacious and comfortable all the way around. The walls are a little thin. There was a yippy dog down the hall that was making a lot of noise (dogs don't belong in hotels, sorry!). The bed creaked excessively when you moved. Other than that, it was exceptional.
The staff was courteous, attentive and helpful. The girl at reception had an accent (russian?) so thick I understood about a quarter of what she said. Not a problem.
I can't see staying anywhere else in Nashville.
Smiley face and a star. -

Worst hotel experience. Stayed with a group at the Hermitage for a work trip. We all thought that there were so many flowers in the lobby that it was hard to breathe. They had double-booked 2 weddings on the same night and were holidng one of the receptions in the lobby which was off-putting. When we returned from dinner one of the door men chased us in to the lobby to 'confirm" that we were indeed staying at the hotel. Very rude. When trying to make a spa appointment I was transferred three times between the front desk and spa--no one seemed to know who was in charge. And then when I asked the concierge for a recommendation for another local spa (hermitage had no availability) they said no.
There was always a group waiting for the elevator to come to our floor-- so slow. And there were no stairs. When we did find a stairwell to use-- it didnt take us to the lobby we ended up in the kitchen.
Overall, the rooms were large and someone else might be impressed with the historic value but the staff was very rude and unhelpful. Not impressed at all. -
Review from Lauren S.
Overall: A fantastic hotel experience.
Rooms: The room I stayed in had a great view of the Capitol. The bed/pillows were extremely comfortable (trust me, i'm picky) and everything seemed very clean. I consider cleanliness a paramount for hotels right now given the bed bug paranoia out there. The bathroom had a big soaking tub and a separate stand up shower.
Food/Drink: I didn't eat at the Capitol Grille but have heard great things about it. It's not affiliated with the national chain. The little hotel bar downstairs is great for a drink/relax session. It's all dark wood/leather chairs. The drinks are expensive, but taste great and I definitely didn't feel cheated out of liquor. I give my thumbs up to the pear martini.
Service: Fantastic. The desk attendant was very polite & even opened the little store when we had a last minute need (even though it was midnight!)
Location: Far enough off Lower Broadway (where the bars/honky tonks are located) to be quiet but close enough to walk if you're wanting to get the full Nashville experience.
Cost: Start at about $260 and go up to $1,500 -

This is a beautiful property. We called requesting a handicapped room specifically a roll in shower for my father, I was assured this was available. Our room had a tub shower not roll in - not what we were told. The hotel told us we could move to another room and I could sleep on a rollaway. Really - a rollaway for 300 a night? We moved to another hotel.

We stayed here two Easters ago for a long weekend. Our room was really spacious and we loved coming "home" every evening to a fully turned down room, complete with bedside cookies and waters and classical music softly playing in the background. We also enjoyed the afternoon refreshments in the lobby and found the valet parking guys out front to be very polite, even though we were constantly in and out. The bathroom was very large and had Molton Brown bath products.
We also ordered in room service for Easter sunday brunch and everything was delivered quickly and cooked well. The biscuits were great. -

The nicest rooms and best service in Nashville, and among the best anywhere!
They capture the class and sophistication of a bygone era with grace and competence without it coming across as pretentious or arrogant.
Stay here if you get the chance! -

The best. I loved this hotel. It's just awesome. One of the most luxurious places I have ever stayed. Walked to the nightlife, restaurants, and the country music hall of fame. The Oak bar was great. Had dinner there and should have shared with my wife because we each could not finish our meal, so much food and delicious. The staff gets 5/5 stars, as they were spectacular.

Top notch hotel. The lobby is large, yet cozy with many seating areas and a fireplace. Very helpful staff who was there to help with anything we needed. Large room with huge bathroom. Lots of nice touches....coffee and muffins in the lobby in the morning, cookies in the afternoon, free wifi, bottled water to grab on your way out to sightsee....
Hope to go back to Nashville and definitely will stay at the Hermitage again! -

My husband and I recently got married and I will say that by far the best wedding decision we made was to get married at The Hermitage Hotel in downtown Nashville! Every aspect was top notch, from the planning to the ceremony and reception, down to the ease of checking out the following day. We received the 5 star service you would expect at a much more reasonable price than you may think. It was worth every dime! Kimberly is a dream to work with and everyone on staff makes sure your experience is peaceful. They think of everything so you can fully enjoy the most wonderful day of your life! And, it is a GORGEOUS venue!

I was fortunate to stay here four nights a few years ago during a conference. It's awesome. The beds are so comfortable and the rooms were very clean. They left warm cookies next to my bed each night with a little note telling me "sweet dreams the weather tomorrow will be .... " and warm sleepers and robes too! It was quite magical. Since then I have returned to the hotel for a special event once a year (not staying there unfortunately) and the place has not lost a step. Catered food is great. The scotch selection downstairs was great too. I hope some day I can afford to stay here again!

Absolutely beautiful historic hotel, impeccable service. I cannot come up with anything that could have been better! My husband and I stopped in with no reservation. Not only were we in luck, we got a top floor corner junior suite overlooking the Capitol. The room was so nice, we skipped going downtown for dinner and ordered room service. The bathroom...marble double vanity and shower, separate soaking tub with a flat-panel television, over-sized towels, and separate "water closet" (that would be toilet room for simple folk). I was saddened to come home to my own bathroom after that.
Aside from the usual amenities you expect from a full-service hotel (fitness center, spa, business services, etc), there is turn down service, three additional types of pillows stored in the closet if you don't care for down. luxurious bedding and bath products, afternoon tea (missed it darn it!), choice of newspaper delivery, and the list goes on. The hotel even offers a bath concierge-they will draw your bath to your desired temperature and allow you to select your salts-or rose petals! They are so damn service oriented, they might take a bath with you if you ask. They also take pets and offer special services to them as well. Crazy!
My husband really blew it with this one. We fly into Nashville about once a year. He better find discounted plane tickets to make up for my future stays here. It is expensive, but so worth it. -

Again the ever road warrior, I found myself in Nashville this time. Semi lost and arriving way past the witching hour, you can imagine how surprised I was to walk into this outstanding building.
I was a) surprised b) in awe.
A) Because I knew we never stayed in places this nice for the project I was currently on.
B) Aesthetically it was an olympic adventure for my ever so tired eyes. A moment before I couldn't of kept them open but from the time I walked into the lobby I felt as if I had to take it all in.
The staff was divine, the rooms were exquisite, and I can't wait to go back. I don't even need a reason, but if you do:
Spa bathrooms with trays
Molton Brown toiletries
Marble showers
Towel warmers
Plasmas off tub
Buckwheat, Down, or Tempur Pedic pillows
Slippers, Robes, and special arrival packages
I would go on, but you get the idea... -

Wonderful dinner. It is definately worth your time. Salad was fresh. They pour a nice gin and tonic and the steak was delicious. Do yourself a favor and give it a try...preferably on an expense account.

I LOVE it here! Definitely one of the nicest places I have ever stayed, and it spoiled me. We stayed here during our honeymoon, and it was certainly one of the highlights.
Staff is SO friendly and kind to everyone.
For breakfast at their restaurant, they made me a special vegan plate that left me feeling full (a tall order at most places for breakfast!).
Our room was beautiful, so elegant and spacious. Like Heather C., we stayed in the room as much as possible, because we didn't want to leave.
I loved Nashville before, and I love it even more now. -

Nashville, TN
I give them 5 stars because they are the only 5 star hotel in town. If you are looking for old world Southern hospitality mingled with some amazingly beautiful historic architectural detail than this is your place.
I am mostly here to mention the Menes bathroom downstairs. I really hate public bathrooms and I can't think of much I find more repulsive than the men's public restrooms but my god this place is something. It has a shoe shining stand in it. More importantly when the hotel was restored the kept the art deco design motif that's been in there for ages. This is where they say dignitaries including presidents conducted business in this very bathroom. It's been featured nationally on the travel channel.
If you are looking for an off the beaten path thing to show an out of town guest that captures the history of Nashville then I say take them for a drink and a peruse of the Hermitage bathroom. -
Review from Courtney B.
Nashville, TN
This is reputably the best and most luxurious hotel in town and it's not hard to understand why. The Hermitage has been around for about a century and still stands as richly elegant and beautifully articulated as it did when it was built. It was purchased and renovated in the early 2000's, mostly updating the guest rooms. The lobby is covered in the Italian marble it was originally built with and the detail work on the architecture is astounding.
It's a bit pricey to stay there, you're looking at rooms going for about several hundred dollars a night depending on the season and how booked they are, but if you're bank account will allow it, I wholeheartedly recommend staying here. Even if you are short on funds, you should at least go visit the hotel. It's one of the more beautiful buildings in Nashville, both inside and out and it's regularly featured on the Travel Channel.
It's located in the heart of Downtown just up the street from the Capitol, and is in convenient walking distance to a lot of cool sights and happenings in Nashville. They have a fantastic restaurant in the lobby called the Capitol Grille that's great if you're looking for a fancy place to have a date night or even somewhere to impress your business client. They also serve holiday buffets here, which is a great way to experience the hotel and its amenities without having to stay the night.Listed in: Hotels

This historic hotel is absolutely gorgeous. The staff is wonderful, helpful and friendly. I didn't stay here, but I did have afternoon tea and dinner here at the Capitol Grille (separate review).
Afternoon tea: There's a menu on the hotel's website. Huge selection of hot teas and 5 or so varieties of the iced tea. We had white ambrosia and the iced white ginger pear tea. Delicious!
The full spread is $21 per person and you get:
* one tea of your choice (with as many refills as you like)
* 3-tiered tray of finger tea sandwiches (caprese, cucumber, turkey, salmon)
* Chocolate covered strawberries - mini balls of crispy chocolate covered half. Lemon tarts covered in raspberries. Apple pastry. AMAZING!!!!!!!
* Scones with Devonshire cream and strawberry preserves
Check out the men's art deco bathroom outside the restaurant. It's lovely. I posted a picture of the plaque outside the restroom explaining it's significance. -

Las Vegas, NV
We were severely disappointed in our stay at the Hermitage. We arrived at 7 p.m. on a Friday night and booked a non-smoking room several months in advance. When we arrived at our room, it wreaked of cigarettes and had not been thoroughly cleaned in quite sometime. We called the front reception desk to complain to which the front desk lady replied: "We appologize Mr. ______. What would you like us to do? Would you like us to send up some perfume for you to spray?" Rediculous. I have never experienced this level of service at a "luxury" hotel. Maybe we came on an "off" day, but still, the room and service were inexcusable. I would recommend staying elsewhere when in Nashville.

This hotel is part of history. The lobby is beautiful old world. The restaurant (capital grill )is like you wan't to believe the old south was. The rooms are good sized and very comfortable. Service is as good as you would wan't it. Don't miss visiting the men's room on the ground floor and read the plaque outside. In fact the restaurant hostess will give you a tour,

The Hermitage Hotel is a real Five Star hotel. It's a safe bet, if a rock star is in town, they are staying at the Hermitage. It is really a beautiful hotel, just being in the lobby is a great experience. The lobby is very formal and ornate. The Oak Bar is a classy small place. I spotted Mr. Bon Jovi having a glass of wine here one evening. Oh boy, he looks as good as he does on the silver screen. Also, the Detroit Red Wings stay here every time they play against the Nashville Predators.
It's just a beautiful hotel that hosts some very notable guests. So, if you want to have the five star experience, stay at the Hermitage. -
Review from Blair S.
The Hermitage Hotel is truly a classic and easily the best hotel in Nashville. The rooms might not be as big as some hotels in this price range but the decor and service more than make up for that. As you may have heard, the men's bathroom in the lobby is really an attraction. The rooms are comfortable, well-appointed, and classy.
Like most other high-end hotels, the service is very attentive and accommodating. They help when they can but know when guests don't want help. How many times have you had hotel staff grab a small bag and carry it a few feet then look at you expecting a tip? Won't happen here. That said, if you're cheap, this isn't the place for you - unless you're on an expense account!
The location is great too. It is walking distance to many Nashville attractions, including the Honky Tonks, Country Music Hall of Fame, State Capital, State Museum, and even the Colosseum. Upper floors and the rooms on the north side have great views of Downtown or Capitol Hill. -

I had a chance to eat at the Hermitage while visiting our legislators in Nashville and I was really impressed! For one thing, the restaurant is gorgeous and has some spectacular architecture-don't know how old the building is but really nice. I had the grilled pimento and fried green tomato sandwich with the slaw and yummy! Everyone I ate with enjoyed their meal-the only negative was they have one fishy smelly dish that whenever the waiters walked by with it, we were all thinking "phew, I'm glad I didn't order that!" Very nice for lunch, will definitely return when in town.

I've never eaten here, I've never stayed here, but I have been in the men's bathroom. (Say Huh?) And yes, I may have a bi-gender name, but I am female. The men's bathroom located in the hotel's restaurant has two very interesting and noteworthy amenities.
First off all, there is an entrance to a tunnel that supposedly leads to the Capitol building across the street. Rumor has it, that's how former politicians would get ladies of the night to visit them discreetly. Secondly, the bathroom is famous for it's 1970 art deco. There's even a little plaque explaining all this. It's not abnormal to find a group of girls wandering in to see both of these aspects.
Be careful though, my friends and I totally confused some foreign gentleman. -

One of my favorite things to do in this town is to take beer in the Oak Bar. The atmosphere is dark, warm and enfolding. They bring you salty snacks. I know, everyone says this ('cause it's true!)~ but the staff is hospitable and you always feel welcome.
I've only ever been to three or four other Teas in my life, but the Hermitage Afternoon Tea goes down as my favorite, partly because of the gorgeous lobby. Great tea selection too: the white ambrosia was the unanimous table pick but I liked the black currant. The scones with cream were sublime. -

I'm giving this place 5 stars without even having to stay here. That is because I am barely rich enough to take a piss in the john at this place.
This place is immaculate. It really isn't that expensive if you just get a regular room. The place sure looks real expensive though. The staff at this place is on point too. I came back around 1am, needed to grab something from my friend's car in valet. No problem. I needed a cab, we got a cab immediately.
The little pub downstairs is really nice as well. They make the drinks strong, just how I like it. If ya got the scrill, make sure to hit this place up. -

The Hermitage is truly worthy of its 5-star status. I've never stayed at a hotel where i really couldn't point a finger at some flaw or another. It's a class act.
Some of my favorite details about the hotel included the selection of pillows (buckwheat, memory foam, etc), the luxurious bathrobes, the plasma TV in the bathroom, the super-fast high-speed FREE Internet connection, etc.
For dining, the Oak Bar is a great setting for a drink and an app. The main dining room has a wonderful menu and great service. I highly recommend trying both during your visit (I also hear taking Afternoon Tea is also a great experience, but I didn't try that).
Lastly, if you think you can't afford this place, try http://priceline.com during mid-week or off-season and you can definitely find a deal. It's no more expensive than the Hilton, Sheraton, etc. and definitely has a lot more character. Put it on your list if you're in Nashville- you won't regret it. -

My husband and I stayed here on our wedding night and decided to return for our 1 year anniversary last month. We don't usually live extravagantly, but this may have to be our annual exception!! The Hermitage is the ULTIMATE luxury. From the second you almost step in the door, to the second you pack up and leave, you are well taken care of. The hotel made every effort to make sure that we had a perfect stay, they even put us in the same room we were in on our honeymoon night! The bed is amazing, the bath and shower (seperate) are the best I've ever had. The business center is a nice touch. Lemonade and cookies in lobby in the afternoon. Cookies and water by your bedside in evening....
The list goes on!!! If you want to splurge a little, this is the place to do it! -

My experience at this hotel was one of the highlights of my trip to Tennessee. After strolling through the ornate foyer we were greeted by friendly staff....Upon entering our large and comfortable victorian suite, the phone rang - "Was everything alright in the room?" Really nice touch.
Walked around the neighborhood (90 degrees at night, I like TN)- a few blocks distance to a lot of live music (including Tootsie's) and yet, if you want to chill in the room and order room service, you won't be disappointed. Take a bath, maybe a shower, slip on a classy robe and climb into the Frette sheets.
Only downside was that the bar downstairs was pretty dead, but it was a Sunday night, and anyways, you can walk to many bars easily.
I want to check out the other historical hotels, this one met my expectations! -

You have to forgive my hard scoring. It is partially a reflection of my own bad decisions. You see, this place is VERY expensive. But I was unfamiliar with the city, and wanted to be sure the place I went to was awesome. And yes, it is everything you'd ever want. All the good things said about this place are true. But I overpaid, and I will take it out on them in their rating. So, in a sense, it is a 5. But you can certainly have just as good a time at the many other places, only a few blocks away, at a third of the cost. Easily.

Daly City, CA
Stunning and I mean STUNNING stay here over the holidays/new years. We stayed in a suite that was absolutely gorgeous. The service was IMPECCABLE from the moment I stepped out of the car. They valeted our car, escorted us up the stairs and the front desk greeted us with champagne and already knew the name of the reservation (from mentioning it at the front door). We were checked in and our baggage arrived shortly after we arrived to our beautiful suite (a present from the boyfriend for our first New Years together). We had reservations downstairs at the restaurant and took us (even though we were late). The new years dinner was absolutely to die for too (their duck confit is infamous and rightfully so). When we got back upstairs to get ready to go my boyfriend asked if I always arranged my makeup so neatly. What? Never. I walked into the bathroom and while we were gone they had come in, hung up our stuff and had neatly arranged my makeup on the counter on a towel in the bathroom that I'm sure might be larger than my bedroom at home. (Actually I'm sure it is.) We had some champagne and chocolate dipped strawberries that we had ordered waiting for us and took a bubble bath in the jet tub large enough for the brady bunch to fit in. Unfortunately we were watching TV while the jets were going and blew a fuse. Luckily they fixed it after we called.
We were beat by the time we came back and slipped into bed. I unfortunately lost my boyfriend to the west wing of the bed (HUGE bed) in his drunken stuper of tossing and turning but it was fine. I was exhausted. The beds were the only mediocre thing (they were large but not the softest). The next morning we ordered room service (after leaving our orders on the knob outside) and everything was correct and they were prompt in bringing things we forgot to make note of to ask for on the form.
I could live like that...but I'd become overweight, spoiled and overly pampered. I could actually be okay with that if a proposition was made by The Hermitage. That place is BEAUTIFUL. Highly recommended if you want a great stay in Nashville (also close to Broadway and the Ryman/Opry to honky tonk it up!) -

First and foremost, the staff was truly exemplary, exuding a genuinely cordial yet polished and professional southern hospitality. The hotel itself is absolutely stately with fastidious attention to every detail as one would expect with regard to anything carrying the name of Andrew Jackson's fabled estate. The junior suite we stayed in was a luxuriously adorned blend of modern convenience and old world style providing a wonderful view of the greek architecture of Capitol Hill and ultimately making it an absolute ordeal to tear ourselves away.

I can't say enough about how great the experience here was! Had a wedding here and things couldn't have been better from the valet services to the food! Great location, great service all around, and a great venue! If you are in need of a high end place to stay or place to host a large party this is it! Rooms are very nice too, pricey but worth it with the service you get here!
