I have to rate this one low. Please see my review of the main restaurant, Euphemia Haye.
The Haye Loft's main claim to fame is a "Burn's Steakhouse"-like, 2nd floor desert room. This would be great if it wasn't a) a rip-off of Burns and b) had deserts on the same culinary level as the restaurant.
All the cakes presented looked half-melted. The disaffected teenager walking you through the choices makes one begin to wonder if this is a mistake. Then you'll buy a slice of cake or pie and realize that it is, indeed, a mistake.
Such a disappointment compared to the main restaurant. The allure of going upstairs for a cocktail and desert will definitely pull you, but be wary. One piece of cake for two people and 15 minutes are all you'll want to devote to this dark, hard-wood chair, slightly creepy Friendly's that will erode your experience of Euphemia Haye.
I was looking for a cozy spot with better than decent food, and the Haye Loft accomplished that. I sat at the bar. The bartender, if I overheard correctly, has been there 15 years and he knows his stuff...friendly, knowledgeable, and makes one feel comfortable. I had the house speciality--roasted duck. The preparation was very good, crispy, and way too much food for one person. I knew that before I ordered but decided to try it and take home what I couldn't finish. Not the best duck I have ever had but way above average. The Caesar Salad was okay but the lettuce was soggy whereas the dressing had a nice anchovy kick. Clearly this is a local hangout. Pricey. The Duck cost about $35 which is on the high end for me for an entree.
Well I ended up here after dinner. It was a Friday night and I knew no one in town, so I thought "what the heck I'll check it out" when the waiter asked me if I was interested in seeing the loft after dinner. The loft contains a very appealing looking menu and had I not been so full I would have definitely ordered the white chocolate creme brulee...it looked so tasty! If only I had not eaten so much! Oh well... There was entertainment across from the dessert area, so I figured I'd go hang out there for a little while, enjoy a glass of dessert wine and let my food settle! I sat down and it wasn't very crowded there considering it was a Saturday night, but then again it was late and well the snow birds probably do not stay out that late and that's probably the type of people that place attracts. Immediately the Bartender attended to me. I asked him for a wine menu and he gave me back a huge listing of wines. The bar had a huge selection of fine alcohols. It was a lush's dream! All the top shelf bottles you could think of! I could not decide what to get, so when I asked the bartender what he thought of the Moscato that was on the menu, he poured me a small tasting so that I could decide for myself! Wow, I thought...most places would have never done that! Everyone did seem to know each other there and it felt very at home! I ordered a glass of the Moscato...it was good! Then I saw him pouring a dark colored drink, but it was in the Vodka section, so I figured I'd ask what it was he was pouring for people. It was the Van Gogh Double Espresso Vodka he explained to me and told me I had to taste it, so again he poured a small tasting in a glass for me! "How cool" I thought to myself!? I only hung out for one drink just because it was rather boring there by myself, but I thought how fun it would be had I been there with more friends!! The bartender is definitely great and like mentioned in a previous review...he knows his stuff!!! Definitely go there if you're looking to just chill and have some drinks!
