This bar is soooooooo awesome!!!! They played metal the entire time we were there, and not only that, but Pete played requests for us! The drinks were very reasonably priced, the bathroom was cleaner than most bars, had soap, and paper towels. There was plenty of room to dance and play pool. Easy to catch a cab outside and comfy couches next to the pool table.
This is the kind of bar that you want to make your Cheers. Friendly, unpretentious, and inexpensive. Because if you're gonna be boozing daily, half price drinks (reasonably priced to begin with) from 4-9 help.

DJing is a lost art, I feel, due to the advent of the Ipod. Though one night I decided to play an Ipod set for a boy and it was "ALL ALANIS MORRISETTE AND MUSIC INSPIRED BY MEGA MAN" night, meaning I may just be the world's most horribe DJ...
...or greatest, depending on how much you appreciate Irony (and the song "Ironic" which I hate).
Where was I? Oh so a friend of mine and I went to this bar because the "Secret Squares" were DJing who I am not at all acquaintaces with. Anyway, we were drunk and in our tuxes and I remember hearing a foreign language version of a Damned song, which I thought hit the right note of uniqueness for the night.
I danced a bit and a woman in a cape came up to me, no lie, and she told me she made the cape herself. She told me that I looked big in my rented tux and so I wanted to naturally murder her on the spot, but instead I just walked away from her and she was left alone with her cape. Haha take that social outcast!
At any rate, the people are all weird, which is good, and the venue is comfy without being tight. Yes the pool table is too big for the bar, but I think only douchebags go to bars to play pool anyway so its no skin off my back avoiding them here.

This place is sweet! One long bar right when you walk in, one pool table and a DJ in the back. This was our last stop of the night so we were riding high on the drinkies already and hanger was a great place to end up. The crowd was great, we got not one odd look from the hipsters as we shook our junk on the 'dancefloor' also known as the space between the pool table and the couch. Nice bartenders, great people, cool DJ, short bathroom line. What more could you ask for?

We wound up here at 12:30AM on a Friday night. And the scene was as follows:
The fabulous: Me & my crew
The owners: Oh yeah. They were there. And one of my crew knew them.
The hipsters: Aplenty
The yuppie: Kind of out of your element, no?
And the ugly: Sitting in the back at the table by the toilet.
It was a lower east side soap opera of an establishment. The guy bartender couldn't see me through all his hair. But the female bartender took really good care of me. Nice to boot. The bar itself is not designed in a way that I particularly care for. There is a raised edge. And it's so dark in here that I can't see to put my beer down. Yeah I tipped my beer. And I'm sure I wasn't the only one.
There's a 15 dollar minimum on credit cards. Which is fine with me. That's something way easier to accomplish by yourself.
Let me just say that I have been hoping and praying for a place to shop after stores close and if this boutique mentioned that is only available during the week is as I imagined this will change into a 5-star review. But for now the DJ played Danity Kane in a random as hell set, the space is great looking (I love upholstered walls), and it draws a diverse crowd.
I could see people playing pool getting annoying but when I was here people were using the pool table as seating. Probably not the best thing for the pool table but it works.
Safe to say I will return on a Thursday to inspect boutique. To be continued ...

Ever wonder what it would be like if two hipster princesses got their hands on enough of daddy's money and decided to sell things? A boutique full of hipster clothes, or a bar with trucker hat wearing bartenders? How about both at once?!
Hanger Bar, on 3rd between Avenues B and C is the bastard amalgam that resulted. It fucking rocks. Not because of the bartender (with Von Dutch cap) in a cowboy shirt, so fashionable (or not), not because of the boutique clothes hung by the owner girls all around on sale for your drunken purchasing pleasure, not because they can't actually pour a Black and Tan to save their lives, but despite all of it. Despite all of the 'straight out of Williamsburg' stench, I liked the place. Hipster kids trying to fulfill their hipster vision, however fucking amusing it may be to normal human beings.
I love it. Also, they have real pint glasses. 20 solid British ounces instead of that goddamned 16 ounce American bullshit. Even if it is filled with fucked-up Guinness and Bass in one dark brown ooze. Also, I don't think the cup was very clean.
Still. Two thumbs up. But only three stars. For people trying, and kinda failing, but kudos nonetheless. I, for one, appreciated the effort. And the 2 for 1 happy hour yesterday. Stopped working at 2pm, stopped "working" at 5pm, was drinking by 5:30pm, was happily buzzed by 7pm. I feel I fulfilled my career goals.

EXCELLENT music, any night of the week. EXCELLENT drink prices (um, half off everything from 4 to 9 every day!) EXCELLENT staff. EXCELLENT everything! If you're not 100% satisfied with your Hanger Bar experience I'll buy you a beer there!
XOXO
Add Hanger as a friend and get first dibs on celebrity guest DJs like I did!

The bar is too small for that damn pool table -- I spent half the night trying to avoid getting hit by the stick. A good selection of beers at cheap prices, and $2 PBR. The servers were awesome.

By far the greatest place to wait for Croxley's 10 cents wings.
$2 pabst tall-boys, easy seating, and it's location make it a great spot to go hang for a bit. The boutique-ness made it feel like i was drinking in Mom's Kitchen, but that's cool, she knows I've done that many a time throughout high school.

Pool table, sufficient seating, and bar stools. Cheap drinks. It's not a hole. It's not a dive. But it's not a lounge or some other uppity BS place either. This, this could easily be a favorite of mine.
Don't be put off by the mullet wearing bartenders in here. I know, it's hard but dont judge so quickly. Sure, you're afraid these ppl are too full of themselves like the Vice pages of Dos and Donts. But trust me, they're surprisingly all friendly and nice and soft spoken and not insulting. You'll trust me more when you see all the ordinary neighborhood folk roll up in here.
Catch it early enough, you'll find it's comfortable with locals and a nice mix of all sorts: ordinary joes, geeks, hipsters. Stay later and the DJ might be too hip it hurts. But maybe not. I spied a couple Amanda Lepore wannabes but that was an anomaly methinks.
Look for the neon hanger sign in the window.

This is a great place that if you catch on the right night, may just become your cheers. The music is great, and the prices are right PLUS you can shop while you drink! (not on the the weekends though) Check it out.
A great East Village spot, this place is always perfect for not just having a guaranteed good time, but having an affordable guaranteed good time. Happy Hour runs late and the drink specials are creatively entertaining. Grab some candy out of one of the jars on the bar and sit back in a cozy, quiet corner with some pals and break out one of their many choice selections of board games. My favorite is drunk Scrabble, although who can turn down drunk Scattegories?
The owners have also smartly integrated a boutique into the mix and you can definitely come away with some cute finds! There's always a fun crowd which is doubly entertaining if you're there for one of their special parties, be it trivia night or whatever. The owners are super-nice, as are the bartenders--something that can be rare in the NYC. Probably one of my favorite spots in the city and I never walk by without stopping in! A definite must do!
