11 reviews for The Hair Factory
It's Monday; all of the 'good' salons are closed, and I look like Sideshow Bob.
I headed to The Hair Factory because it was recommended to me by a salon owner and it just so happened to be open on Mondays.
When I arrived I was greeted by the nicest woman, Suesan- who addressed me as, "Mr. Jonathan." I figured, "This woman is REALLY trying to win me!" And she did. To be honest, as she was cutting my hair I was thinking, "OMG what did I get myself into." But at the end, I noticed that she really listened to me- and I actually like my hair more than when it was cut at a $70 salon (The haircut was $30 not including tip.)
While you're not going to get a super-edgy texturized look (I'm speaking to the guys here), Suesan gives leaves you with a clean cut, a heavier wallet and a smile on your face. She'll even pray for your mom! =)
i'd give 1 star not because the service sucks. but because they're liars. they charge you 30 bucks for a hair trim.. a half an inch hair trim. (no bangs/no haircut) ha... are you fucking kidding me. everyother place charges u 5 bucks. she did not tell me the trim price until she charged my card. then she said everything is 30 and up.. for fuck's sake i got a 200 dollar service done to my hair and she's still charging me 30 bucks for a trim... that's low.......... if you're looking for a rip off place yet expect to receive a good hair job then go to this place. otherwise there are many other places on el camino for a 5 buck trim.. not a 30 buck one...
they just lost a customer and i will be giving bad word of mouth to my fellow workers now...
Hate to rate this place so low, seeing as I've only dealt with one of its stylists, but Roya really did an abysmal job on my hair. She did basically everything I asked her NOT to do: I told her to err long, she erred short; I told her to balance everything, she left it long in the back; I told her to take in the sides a little and follow the curve of my head - I'm curly-haired, so this is necessary - and she left me "square-haired." And when I complained, in the end, that the cut wasn't what I had wanted, she told me that it WAS what I had said I wanted. Oookay then. I left feeling stressed, miserable, and as though I had thrown $30 out the window.
So far, I have gotten nothing but negative comments on my haircut. "Why did she leave it so long in the back?" "Was she even licensed?" "The sides are uneven, what's going on there?" "What a mess." Etc. The general verdict is that this is the worst cut I've gotten in at least ten years. I have friends offering to clean it up for me. If I thought at one point that I was perhaps being overly-sensitive or resistant to change, that is no longer the case. This was indeed a poor haircut.
To summarize: The other stylists here might be okay, but Roya really butchered my hair. Avoid her, especially if you have curly hair.
Laila has been cutting my hair the last 6months and I am never dissapointed. I had her highlight my hair for the first time last week and I am very happy! My daughter is going to see her Thursday and is very excited. I would definately give Laila a call!
Zoe definitely hooked a girl up-- she did EXCELLENT layering.. and tried very hard to listen to my requests. The bangs were a little off: I had to go home and trim/shape them out on my own...(but they were decent..im just a real stickler about my bangs) But, the rest of my hair is silky and she was very detailed with the layering. 30 bucks for the cut- 15 more for the blow dry and styling. I had a simple trim all around because my hair is fried.
What WAS 5 stars and impressive was how personable and cute she was. I didn't really think so on the phone, (other yelpers say she is sooo nice and sweet) until I met her and spoke to her. AND boy, that lady is walkin' hot stuff. As my bf mentioned, very reminiscent of those old school barber shops where cutting your hair is an experience. So to me, it doesn't matter that my bangs were slightly off (it's better to pay 30 bucks for a trim than 60+). It was a good experience.
I left feeling like my hair was refreshed---- and my mind. SO you can't go wrong. I will definitely be back for trims. [Drastic oomph to my hair style? I am still searching.............]
Upon a recommendation from a colleague, I decided to try out this place today. I badly needed a trim and my little son had to get his first hair cut. I went in without an appointment, but they accommodated us both. My son got his hair trimmed beautifully - just the way I wanted it - not too short not too long. Mine was a layered cut which the stylist - Parvin - seemed to understand and made it so, without reducing the length.
Long story short, Parvin gave us both the perfect hair cuts. Bottomline - no complaints, and 5 stars on Yelp!!!
Very accomodating!
I called Sousie (sp) one morning when I needed my hair set that afternoon and she was beyond nice! She treats you like family. I haven't had anyone else there cut or style my hair, but most are all very nice.
It gets fairly busy on Fridays, so make an appointment if you can. It's a touch pricey, but considering other places, well worth it!
I think a wash/cut/blow dry runs me around $45.
Though I'm not particularly loyal to any one place, I have yet to have a bad experience and Sousie is truly sweet and caring.
Convenient, too with Jamba Juice and Starbucks right there! So even if you have to wait you can just walk around and get a little treat!
I went to The Hair Factory because all the other reviews were so positive, and it was just around the corner. But my experience, unfortunately, was less so.
I'm new to the area and had made an appointment with them a week ahead of time for an up-do for a wedding. I specifically asked if they were experienced with up-dos. They squeezed me in but I ended up with the hair wash gal. She didn't really know what to do ... started fumbling around for hot rollers, curling irons, and started putting my hair in Velcro rollers. She misunderstood me and thought I wanted a half-up do, and proceeded to curl the back half of my hair Goldilocks-style with a 1/2" curling iron. The stylist next to us saw what was happening and told her to take all the rollers out and started TEACHING her how to place and pin down chunks of my hair neatly for, you know, a simple up-do. Meanwhile my hair is hosed down with hairspray each time a chunk of hair was pinned down. An hour has gone by for what normally takes 45 minutes to complete ... and they're still not done. I would have left and gone somewhere else, but I'm not familiar with the neighborhood and there was simply no time. 1 1/2 hours later I have this huge, loose, bee-hive like pile on my head. It was awful. Zoe finally sees what is happening and comes over and quickly fixes my hair in 2 minutes, tightening down all the loose swirls to salvage what she could. It was still very frizzy but I had no time to re-do my hair, and went to the wedding as is. My hair reeked with bad-smelling hairspray all night too. I would have given only 2 stars, but Zoe really is as good and patient as the other reviews say. Otherwise, I think this place needs to get their act together and not let the novices experiment on clients' hair, especially for a special occasion.
My recommendation is to make a reservation with a specific stylist with this place. Chances are that you will have great results with Zoe, or whoever else has had honorable mention here on Yelp. Otherwise, watch out!
Susan is wonderful! I just got a cut there and it's one of the best ones I've ever had. The final damage was $30 for the cut plus $7 for the tip (she was really sweet). I've paid a lot more for not-as-good-cuts in SF, so this is dirt cheap to me. I almost felt guilty for paying that little. If you want a cut plus the professional blow dry/style it's $45 (30 for the cut, 15 for the styling). My haircut is chic, polished, and looks styled even when air dried. I will definitely go back! 5 stars for the cut by Susan, minus one star because reception messed up my appointment by an hour. Even with that, I'd still recommend this place to my friends if they didn't already have their salon place set. Check out Susan! She really pays attention to the shape of your face and the quality of your hair.
Sometimes a girl needs her hair done stat! I had woke up bored with my hair and decided I would dye it as close to my brown roots as possible. Since I don't have a permanent hair stylist, I went for the first place available, that caught my eye. I walked into the Hair Factory and thankfully they were able to accomodate my hair emergency. The whole experience was great, the ladies were all very nice, and the dye job turned out very well. One star off because another stylist (not my own) practically burned my ear off with her talking.
After years of going to Supercuts, I needed a change. This place fits the bill. Great stylists, ask for Zoe in advance. Very thorough, takes her time, knows exactly what she's doing. Didn't know there was so much variety, but there's a bunch of ways to get your hair cut, and she explained them all. Highlighting is her specialty I was told, so if your hair is seriously messed up, she'll fix it up.
