    My favorite standard Socal burger.

For people who compare it to In N' Out - personally I like the Habit a lot more, but I also can't stomach greasy food that well and obviously the Habit charburger is a bit pricier than In N' Out. But the ingredients feel a lot healthier (?) and the fries are more standard and crispier, not skinny semi-cooked what-am-i-eating fries from In N' Out.

Usually get the charburger - goooood (and cheap!) Got the salad once too, I think, which was good too. I love their potato fries and our family usually got that but now we converted to sweet potato fries - much healthier, much yummier.

Like any other Habit restaurant, the Veggie Burger Protein Wrapped is the best.

This location is particularly small, but the outside patio is nice and spacious.

Grilled Chicken Salad...yummm! Service....yummm!! Table full of hot firefighters enjoy their burgers...EXTRA YUMMM! My salad instantly tasted a million times better once that group of hunks took over the table next to me. I have been here twice, during the lunch rush, and have always received my food in a timely manner. Never had to wait too long for my delicious salad. Although the chicken is pretty thin...it's awfully wide and lasts throughout your entire meal. It's not like other places where after a few bites of chicken, you just have a bunch of lettuce to eat. I will have to try their BBQ salad next although I am not so sure about BBQ sauce on my salad.. it comes with guacamole though and guacamole always makes me happy.
Their fries are also really good and I am excited to try their onion rings. I read they are pretty tasty.
The people that work there are also super nice. They even clean up after you which I am sorta uncomfortable about. I don't like people cleaning up after me at a fast-food joint...but they all seem so cheery when they do it. I really like seeing happy people especially when I am having lunch/dinner with my brother. That's a pain already, I don't need bad service added to that.

I like this place - but I have to go there very early on the days that I do go there because they are packed by lunchtime and on weekends.  The employees are always very friendly and the quality is A-plus.  There seems to be a somewhat high rate of turnover in management there .... none of the managers stick around for long, but they keep the operations going along smoothly and I appreciate that.  Their prices are excellent - they're underpriced actually!  They're competing with In & Out.  BK and McDonalds' burgers are disgusting and overpriced.  Wendys' burgers are not even as good as Habit's and they're overpriced too.  The Habit offers excellent salads and they're as popular as the burgers and sandwiches.  And they have ice cream cones for 99 cents and shakes for only $1.50'ish.

After being unimpressed at another location this Habit is a refreshing change. Char burgers have a nice smoky taste and the whole wheat bun w/o seeds!!! is just right for a seed sensitive guy like me. But...shredded lettuce drives this burger across the finish line. Great quality control here as each order is checked as it departs the kitchen.Nice ingredients, good cooks, friendly staff  and a clean envionrnment make this Habit a regular spot for me to dine when working in the area.

Was in the valley to pick up my dad from work, before we headed off to sin city and decided on the Habit. I really like their teriyaki burgers on wheat with everything on it! My sister ordered the Chicken sandwich on sourdough and I have to admit while my burger delicious, I kept eyeing her sandwich. I'll definitely have to order that next time I visit any Habit location. I'm not a big fan of their fries so I always order their onion rings.
The service here was exceptional! The place is very clean and hardly a speck of dirt could be found. The peppers and condiments were very organized!

Nice spot for a quality burger or sandwich.

I ordered the tri-tip sandwich on sourdough with fries. Fries good. The tri-tip was good, but hard to eat because it was nice and thick and it was hard to get a clean bite through the bread and meat with out it falling apart.

Went here yesterday before heading over to the Winnetka 21 to Watch X-Men. The food was great and not too greasy or salty. We both got the double char-burger combo and converted the fries to sweet potato fries(almost the same as getting brown rice instead of white rice) for 1.50each extra. The whole combo with a diet drink I think came out to be under 1000 calories. Not too bad for stuffing my face with a double burger w/ cheese and fries.
Oh yeah, there is 3 different peppers and a bunch of sauces/ketchup at a station near the soda fountain.
The cashier was nice, cute and always smiling. I think Ariana was her name. The decor was fun and relaxing which gave the nice vibe for my dad and I to just relax and shoot the sh_t for a while. I would definitely rather come here than In-n-Out.

Ooh yeah! one of the few semi-fast food burger joints where the meat is actually flavorful. I'm also a big fan of In-N-Out burger... but I think The Habit Burger is just one notch better. Five Guys Burger... thumbs down.. but I'm not gonna dwell on that.
The location is in the same plaza as the movie theater and it's surrounded by a lot of office buildings so the place gets packed.
Nevertheless, clean place, friendly staff, snappy service.

Decent burger with crunchy onion rings.  Some were a little burnt.  This was my first time there.  Brought back lunch for a large group.  Comments were the same among everyone.  Chocolate shake was good.  Price was very reasonable.  Tried a few french fries and they were acceptable; a little on the salty side.

Service was very good.  Very happy the cashier doublechecked each order and put in a separate bag with the right name on each order.   Prefer Five Guys burgers and fries.

I'm definitely a fan of the Habit. Discovered this place like 2 years ago in Glendale and always got really excited when we were eating lunch here.like how there's a self serve bar so you can grab as much peppercinis,

The cheeseburger is really good, so are their (new) sweet potato fries. I or hot sauce, or whatever kind of sauce you want. Also I didn't feel guilty asky for thousand island for my cheeseburger. Even though it's a fast food joint, they still come by to ask if you need anything and clean up the tables for you. I also really like their steak sandwich...though I'd stick w/the cheeseburger combo since it's right under $6 (versus their sandwiches which are $6+, with no fries or drink). Their salads are not bad here either.

Very good service. They also have calories on their menu!

Yummy inexpensive tasting burgers that's all I have to say!
5+ star plus quick service for being extremely crowded!

First time at The Habit which was highly recommended by my sister and it was an interesting experience.  I don't know the crowd in the valley but it was like a party of teenagers!!!! But thankfully we ordered and got to sit outside in their nice outside patio deck where we could relax and chill after a long day at the beach.  Like I said the burger was excellent I ordered the BBQ bacon charburger $3.85 with soft drink and fries (can't remember the price).  That was cheap!  My sister and hubby ordered the charburger which was only $2.95!!!  I didn't taste it but I believe it was just as tasty as mine except for the BBQ and bacon.  I think next to Johnny Rockets I love the HABIT!!!  NOw- question is are they located up in N CAL?

I probably go at least once a week since it's so close to my job. The cashiers are polite, the food gets made fast and taste good, and they always verify your orders before they give it to you.

The only reason they don't get 5 stars is that you can't order your food for pick up. You have to go, order your food and then wait until its ready. Its not so great for people who are on their lunch break. Also they don't have combo's.

    Still yummy though.

We were vacationing in SB several years ago and had lunch at the Montecito coffee shop.  I ordered a cheeseburger and it sucked in a big way.  I sent it back, and left.

Still hungry as we were walking on State Street and I saw the Habit for the first time.  My first Char burger.  It was and still is the best burger for the money.  Fresh, delicious, burger perfection. I was hooked.  I've had several over the years.

One day my GF and I decided to hit In and Out in Northridge.

    Limited menu, burgers, fries.
Uncomfortable seating, hard red plastic booths.
    No music.
    Crowded.
    Red and white everything.
Double Double, way too many onions.  Lousy.  Ate half the burger and trashed the rest.

Navigated over to the Habit in Chatsworth.

Bigger menu, lots of options, salads, sandwiches, burgers, onion rings!!  The best onion rings ever!  Dipped in ranch!
Great looking restaurant, earth tones, stacked stone walls.
    Comfortable cushioned booths.
Background music, Blondie when we walked in.  Cool.

Let's talk customer service.  They go out of there way to be nice.  They come up to your table and ask if you need anything.  What fast food place does that?  Only the Habit.

Great food, great burgers, the Habit is the real deal.

I always get the albacore tuna sandwich on sourdough but my family likes the burgers.  The albacore is nicely grilled and very good.  It's not the biggest sandwich in the world but makes for a decent lunch.  I really like the fries which are thin style (McDonalds size) and freshly fried.  They get the orders out pretty fast and keep the place clean.

My only gripe is the cost.  The only have combo deals (burger, drink, fries) with the burgers, so if you want the grilled tuna for example, you pay for a drink and fries individually so with tax you are over $10!!!  Way too pricey in my opinion.

Great burgers!!!!  I do like this place but I don't feel it warrants a 5-star.  The food is good and they know how to make french fries. The burgers are well made and taste great but avoid during peak lunch hours.

They do have a ton of tables and chairs but getting around and refilling your drink can be a pain in the butt.

You can order their combos for under $10 and that comes with a burger or sandwich, fries and drink.  You have to fill your own drink and they have a cool condiment bar with ketchup cups that are big enough to prevent that return trip to the bar.

Once upon a time, while I was working out really, really hard to continue losing weight and tone up my body, I watched my calories, and for 2 months, stopped eating any red meat without thinking twice about it. Then, I started feeling dizzy and just-not-right with myself. I complained to my companion-soon-to-be-mister, and he said maybe you're anemic. I was puzzled. Companion-soon-to-be-Mister told me I was beautiful the way I am, and took me to The Habit Burger Grill. Said I could order anything I wanted, even the chicken. But oh...anemic me said yes to the beef, but was fickle between what type. Do I want ground beef such as the Original charburger..! Or steak such as the tri-tip sandwich?? I eventually ordered the tri-tip sandwich, and he had the charburger (so I can try it too..he always sweet like that)

The charburger was goooood.. but OMFGOMGFG...the tri-tip sandwich was excellent. GREAT cut of beef, tender, juicy.. the caramelized onions just accentuates the flavor. Very good!! And best thing? It actually has less calories than the chicken sandwich! Go figure! I was satiated, and stopped feeling dizzy and anemic.

Moral of the story: Eat beef.. it can actually be good for you. Eat at the Habit... their burgers and sandwiches are delicious!

Funny a vegetarian reviewing a "burger' joint, but I must say they are much more...  Technically, I'm a Pescatarian, I eat fish and things that are fishy. :P Came here the other day, and expected to get something in the salad genre... I look up and see the Albacore Tuna Sandwich... SCORE! I ordered that, and a side salad which was HUGE by the way. I couldn't have been happier. The Sandwich was KILLER, and the salad totally fresh, lots of veggies, and I wasn't picking thru spent or brown lettuce. Definitely coming back here at least once every week and a half.

It's a pretty flippin good burger.  Get it?  Flippin good?  Cuz it's char-grilled, and you flip the burger?  Eh, never-mind, I've lost the funny.

Set back in the parking lot for a huge Pacific Theaters, this new addition to the Valley is gonna do awesome in this location.  Not only because there isn't much else to eat in this general area....but the burgers are awesome.  The meat could be compared to In-N-Out quality, which is saying alot.  And I'll tell you what...their fries are even better.  Thicker and bigger in comparison.  That's how i usually like em.  owwwww!!

If you aren't into the meat, they have chicken sandwiches, veggie patties, as well as salad options, and their shakes looked pretty effin tasty too.  Its a chain worth checking out....if you are in need of a quick burger and there isnt an In-N-Out around, or you happen to be with someone who just wants more variety.

SCORE!! Very good quality burgers. Better than In N out, however In N out has superior fries. The ones here are standard. However, the onion rings here are some of the best onion rings I've had. Really good!!

95 cent cones looked tantalizing, but I fought the temptation.

    A very good quick burger!

I just stumbled on this place in my neighbor hood a few days ago. It is a chain that originally started in Santa Barbara, Ca about 30 years ago. I'm glad that there is one nearby now!

The burger was very tasty and delicious. I have friends that are crazy about In-and-Out, and I have friends that are crazy about Fat Burger too. I think the Habit is a good combination of the two of them. Their burgers are on the small side much like In-and-Out, but they pack a very meaty and fresh taste more similar too Fat Burger! I don't know where their beef comes from, but with all that flavor, it must be from a pretty good purveyor.

The wholewheat buns are very good and they bring out a gourmet taste to the burger that separates it from In-and-Out. You can also ask for cheese, bacon, and other toppings as well. I definitely recommend this burger if you are in a hurry, or cannot afford a $10+ burger at a swanky place.

The first time I went to a Habit my expectations were pretty low.  It looked like an overpriced burger place to me.  I loved their food then, and I still love it now.
Today was the second time I have been to THIS location and both times it was very busy but the employees were working so hard that the food was ready pretty quickly.

I have also never had my order messed up.  This is a big deal for me because I don't eat cheese so I have repeatedly had my orders messed up everywhere I go, for as long as I can remember.

I love their burgers, they are so much better than Fast food burgers and they are even noticeably better than most restaurant burgers.  The fries are very good.  There is nothing that makes them very unique, but they are very good.  I am NOT an onion ring person; I never have been.  However, the Habit has the best onion rings I have ever had.  I just had one of their chocolate shakes today, it was fantastic.  If this thing had alcohol in it I would have happily paid $9 for it.  All their food is really good.  I guess they have some healthy stuff there as well, I'm not really sure, I just eat the burgers.

I was really close to giving this place a 4 star because they could have really made some more space for people to stand when they are waiting for their orders and it can get pretty crowded.  In the end though, I just went with the 5 star because I have yet to wait very long for my food.

Hunny & I first went to the Habit, after getting smoked out at the Winnetka Pacific Theater two weeks ago. Yep, L.A.'s Finest showed up with three huge trucks loaded with fans to air out the lobby, but that's another story.

Needless to say, I thought the foul smell of burning/burnt/charcoaled popcorn would be the end of my appetite for the evening, but then I remembered my co-worker telling me about this place.

We pulled right up in front, and DH & I went in & ordered a couple of burgers with onion rings. The real smell of truly flame-broiled burger patties made me forget all about the yuk popcorn smell. Within just a few minutes our order was up - and in another few minutes, the food was all gone! We CHOWED! Just thinking about it, is making my mouth water.

Best part about it, they put a good portion of avocado on their burgers, not a measly slim slice or two like some places. It was easily an 1/8-1/4 'cado, which is amazing given prices of 'cados right now.

O-Rings were faboo - my only complaint being I ran out of ranch, but they gave us extra with no prob.

Good food, patio dining, decent prices - an all around good place for before or after a show (or instead of, if the theater catches fire :D  ).

I'm the total buzz kill of the 5 stars here, sorry.  I had the bbq char burger and I will say mighty good.  It's like the best burger you could make in your backyard.  In-N-Out still reigns supreme in my book.

This was my first run and I'll be back.  They have other food than just burgers, like tri-tip and chicken sandwiches.  The fries were so so.  Kind of reminded me of high school cafeteria fries.

The place was crowded, I guess lunch time will do that., so finding open tables might be a challenge.

Overall, good food, average prices, clean and friendly environment.  .

Their ingredients are fresh and their french fries and onion rings are also delicious.

There is a pretty long line during lunch rush hour and their prices are slightly higher than most fast food places.

don't even think about In n Out if you walk into this place because they have their own taste.  The Habit simply makes a really good burger.

my favorite is the Teriyaki Char, which is now the better and improved Teriyaki Char with a slice of grilled pineapple!  don't get me wrong, the Original Char is really good, but the Teriyaki Char is better to me.  the fries and onion rings are good and they have a nice little selection of sauces for you ranging from ketchup to A-1 steak sauce if that's your thing.

their service is great and if it's not too busy they'll come around and clear off your tray and ask if you need anything else :)

Yuuuuuuum!  I grew up in Santa Barbara, CA where The Habit chain began.  Some of my family has relocated to the SF Valley and I'm so glad that The Habit opened up a location just a few minutes from one of our homes.

The Charburger with cheese is amazing.  It's got that "BBQ'd at home but better" kind of taste.  The fries are fresh and cut thick enough to grab onto the right amount of their delicious Ranch dressing.  The onions rings are freakin' amazing too.  I have also tried the Chicken Teriakyi sandwich and Tri Trip sandwich.  Both are really great options if you don't feel like having a burger that day.  Oh, and the milkshakes aren't too shabby either.  Personally I'd rather spend my calorie bucks on the Charburger, fries and onion rings than on the milkshakes.  Everything in moderation, right?  Hahaha.. But if you must, the vanilla is probably my favorite flavor.

All in all, The Habit is always a reliable choice for lunch or a casual dinner.

Like a more sit-down version of In-N-Out, with a few more options for how your burger is built.  Friendly service, fairly large portions, and fair prices.  But then again, how good is In-N-Out?  If you're comparing it to the other franchises, yeah, pretty damn good, but if you're comparing to a sit-down burger joint, ya gotta admit that In-N-Out leaves something to be desired, right?

That's my mentality when it comes to my opinion on The Habit: yeah, it's a lot better than the franchise places, but how does it square up against the actual burger joints and greasy spoons?  Mmmm, ehhhhh, s'okay.  Case in point: go to Island's and order the Kilauea burger.  You'll see what I mean.

3 stars for a pretty decent burger.  Good if you're in the area and want a quick burger.  Just don't let the packets of ranch dressing scare you away haha!

I love this place. The Char Burger is awesome. For some odd reason when I ordered this burger I didn't ask for them to take off the onions.. MMM carmalized onions were on point.

I also loved the chocolate shake --- extra thick for me though. Great place to grab something to eat instead of going to Mc Donald's all the time. Its also healthy ;D yum

First time visit to this location... in fact, to any location of The Habit.  How could that be?

We actually went to get Japanese at a nearby restaurant, but the kure of the smoke from The Habit made us want burgers instead.  I'm so glad the smoke was in the air!

I like eating at dives and dumps; this isn't anything like that.  My first impression is that The Habit is sooooo clean.  A good start.  The seating is sparse and every table was full so I prowled the restaurant while my wife ordered.  My quick look at the menu left me both impressed and looking forward to my meal.  There was plenty of options to chose from and the menu is very logically laid out.  I decided on a #2 combo in less than a minute.  Everyone else setlled in on a choice quick, except my wife who seemed to be asking the girl at the order desk 1001 questions.  I don't know why, but she tends to do that.  Other first impression is that all of the girls working the counter were smiling.  I like that!

We proceeded to the self-serve beverage area but still no tables available.  We (Me, really) opted for the patio tables that were completely available.  Food was ready quickly and looked great.  A minor confusion about the fries was resolved quickly and with no fuss.  We just started dining when the team lead (manager?) came by our table and asked if we'd like to have the heaters turned on.  By that time there were two other tables occupied on the patio.  The heaters were a nice and much appreciated gesture!

Food was so good there was no conversation... and no leftovers either.  Portions were PERFECT for my gang.  Everyody was full and happy.

The value for the money is right on here.

I'm looking forward to future visits to try other menu items.  This place is a winner!
