I love grilled cheese sandwiches, so I was excited to get a chance to finally eat here. Had half of the Cheesy Mac grilled cheese with bacon and a mozzarella with bacon. Both were exceptionally great, especially the mac & cheese. We also ordered a side of tater tots that were amazing as well. The right amount of crisp and far from my usual experience of soggy tots.
The downside was that the mozzarella grilled cheese was rather luke warm towards the middle despite us eating it moments after picking up our order. Prices were also rather on the steep end.
Employees were exceptionally nice and the wait was fairly quick. It's definitely a top food choice for me.
I have never experienced this whole food truck thing. My friend lived in Portland and she always talks about moving back to open a food cart. Food trucks are LA's answer to this I guess.
Soooo I LOVE the concept and I love cheese so I really enjoyed this. I got the harvest melt which I was worried about the agave syrup because I thought it would be too sweet but I have to say it was really good. I had a bite of the tomato basil melt thing too which wasn't as good. The soup was nice - very garlicy :-).
I have to agree with a previous review though.... for the price the bread could be better rather than regular sliced bread.
Anyways I love the fact I could walk a few blocks and try something different. Great concept.... I am looking forward to more food trucks coming to downtown. Bring it on!!! :-)
On our way to Subway for lunch today we noticed the Grilled Cheese Truck parked across the street. It wasn't quite open yet, and there was already a line.
Once it finally opened I ordered the Cheesy Mac sandwich and a cup of tomato soup. I wasn't too sure about mac & cheese in sandwich form, but it was pretty good. The soup was okay, but it could have been hotter.
I'm not sure if it was worth $8, but it was a fun experience anyway. I mean, grilled cheeses on a truck!? Amazing!
Yay they finally came to USC! They were parked in a pretty secluded area so there was no line when I got there, and I was super excited to finally try the hyped-up and highly anticipated gourmet grilled cheese truck (I'd seen it at Art Walk a few weeks ago and the line was insane).
My two friends and I ordered the Cheesy Mac & Rib sandwich, the Caprese sandwich, and the Dessert sandwich and we eat split them to try a variety:
The cheesy mac & rib was goooood - perfectly toasted bread, loaded with cheesy elbow noodles, pieces of pulled bbq pork, and caramelized onions in the state between crunchy and chewy.
Caprese lacked flavor after trying the mac & rib one, and it was pretty measly portioned. But the mozzarella cheese inside of it was definitely yummy.
The dessert one was good - you could taste the rum in the pureed bananas, and with the nutella and marshmallows it was a great ending
Okay so why am I only giving them 3 stars after raving over their sandwiches? It wasn't THAT great - for the price I paid. $7 for the first one, $6 each for the others. Didn't try the sides because they were kinda pricey too - tater tots and tomato soup. Also, it was probably not worth waiting a long line for - I'm lucky that there was no line, other wise I would've been more disappointed.
Really, now that I've tried the truck, I can go home and make my own. Maybeee I'll try TGCT again after they come out w/ the 'crusts', but for now, I'll just be inspired and experiment w/ bread + cheese in my own kitchen and save myself a lot of $.
Goodness I was SO excited to try this truck. I hadn't been able to make it out to anywhere to try it, so when they finally tweeted that they were at USC for the UCLA game (FUCLA!!)I got extremely excited and had to get some.
Wow. DISAPPOINTING.
Seriously. I LOVE grilled cheese sandwiches. My friend & I had been discussing this truck because I was like it's like GOURMET grilled cheese & they sell tomato soup! I got the Caprese melt & tater tots. They give you SO many tater tots but they really weren't very good and neither was the sandwich.
It definitely would NOT be worth waiting in line for. The only reason why I got some was because there was no line. The people working the truck were really nice though... But that doesn't really make up for the disappointing melt.
Gave it another chance at the Brig last night. There was absolutely no line, so that kinda had me concerned.
We ordered a bacon and gruyere grilled cheese sandwich and a dessert melt. The bacon and gruyere was nice and greasy as it should be. But then the cheese wasnt melted. Bacon wasnt good but whats the point of non melted cheese. weak. Then the dessert melt tasted ok, but its just bread and nutella.
you can make this stuff at home. and for the price, you can make it at home for days.
and they charge tax instead of having a nice rounded off price. stick with a real roach coach, or something with a better hook.

The Cheesy Mac & Rib sandwich makes me alllllllmost willing to stand in a 50-minute line again....ALMOST.
Last week on a Friday I was climbing the walls dying to finally get out of the office to take a lunch for the first time all week. I saw that GCT would be a short drive from UCLA at the Brentwood Market so I loaded my 'stang with a coworker, student worker, and old buddy and off we caravaned.
We rolled up about 15 minutes post GCT arrival and already the line was stacked up. It actually didn't look like THAT long of a line but looks are always so deceiving which we realized after standing there for 10 minutes and not being able to advance forward even an inch. Hmmm. We thought we'd give it 30 minutes max but as we gradually inched closer and smelled the artery clogging goodness we decided to wait it out.
The wait is also a killer because it gives you more time to think of MORE things to buy off the menu. I think I changed my mind about 5 or 6 times. I wound up getting:
Cheesy Mac and Rib ($7)
Gruyere + avocado + tomato on wheat ($4 + $2 + $0.50)
Tater tots ($3)
Pickles ($0.50)
After tax that ended up being around 20 bucks!
The Cheesy Mac and Rib is really the only thing I'd go back for (although I am interested in tyring the "crusts" when those come out). This thing was giant food bomb in my tummy but it was SO GOOD and filling. The "build-your-own" I should have skipped. I saved it for later and it ended up being an oily soggy mess. Nothing spectacular there. They do give you a lot of tater tots in each order so you might want to split an order with a friend or two. I was sad that the orderof "pickles" was NOT one nice whole pickle but instead was a tiny cup of about 8 round slices of pickles. Tasty but c'mon! I want more pickle! I also tried a taste of the "shot" of Carrot Ginger soup my friend got...I might grab a cup of that the next time around too as it was hearty and flavorful.
Bonus points for the cute little silver sandwich wrappers that are the perfect size, more bonus points because it took less than 5 min from the time I paid 'til the time I had my order in my hands and even more bonus points for all the condiments available.
Like many others i was eagerly anticipating the launch of this truck. And like others i was disappointed. I had tempered my expectations based on some of the early reviews, but was still underwhelmed.
The mac and cheese with pulled pork and onions had decent flavor, but everything was the same texture-soft. Maybe if i had gotten one of their crusts(which didn't seem to be available) or if the onions were fried a little it would have given this sandwich a nice crunch. Everything was also rather sweet, and the sandwich could have used some peppers or maybe a hotter sauce.
The Harvest melt was again, decent. The squash was nice but i couldn't really taste the agave.
I love the concept and the staff was very freindly, but i think ill be making my own grilled cheese for now.
when i first heard of this truck, my immediate reaction was "how cool!... a truck that specializes in grilled cheese!". so when they finally opened, i had to try their food.
predictably it was their first day so the lines were long and the service slow. they also had mechanical problems so they opened about two hours after they were supposed to. but i'm not docking them because of those things.
anyways, i ordered cheesy mac melt, a plain and simple melt made with gruyere cheese (i didn't know there was a cheese called this either!), and for dessert... the dessert melt. the cheesy mac melt for me was the highlight... it was macaroni and cheese with sharp cheddar, bbq pork and carmelized onions. this was really delicious and perfect if you're at a bar and this truck is in the area. the gruyere cheese was good. however the dessert melt was way too sweet. it was melted marshmallow, roasted banana spread and nutella. could only eat half of it.
so yeah the food was okay... but then reality sets in later. i just paid $4 for a grilled cheese sandwich. $4! the cheesy mac melt was $7! and the dessert melt was $6. so the obvious impression is that the food is just waaaaaaaay overpriced. if they're going to charge that price, they need to not use regular items like plain sliced bread. the ingredients need to be more "gourmet" if you ask me.
i think a food truck works and gets popular because of the unique food that they serve. a lot of the other trucks out there satisfy that need. the grilled cheese is probably one of the few trucks where most people can make most of the menu on their own at home for a fraction of the price. i really think they need to reduce prices especially for the plain and simple melts... at least to $2, which is still expensive.
so i enjoyed the food, cos who doesn't like grilled cheese... it's just over priced.
My friend and I had seriously sworn off all food trucks. But we had a weak moment today. We agreed ahead of time that if the line was more than 10-12 people deep we were bailing. No truck, no matter how enticing the offering, is worth anything more than a 15-20 minute wait.
We got to the truck right before 1 pm. The line was within our range. Within minutes, there was close to 40 people behind us! Don't do it!!!
FIVE REASONS WHY THIS PLACE WAS (BARELY) 2 STARS:
1. THE FOOD WAS NOTHING SPECIAL. We tried a couple of sandwiches. The Cheesy Mac and Rib (macaroni and cheese with sharp cheddar and we added the bbq pork and caramelized onions) was not good. Do not get it. The macaroni was okay, but the bbq pork was nasty - the worst pulled pork ever. The Caprese Melt (with mozzarella, heirloom tomatoes, basil and balsamic syrup) was a better choice, but mozzarella is not a good melty cheese. We also ordered a couple of the soups. The tomato was more like a pasta sauce. I liked the flavor, but you might be disappointed if you're expecting a smooth soup. The carrot and ginger had a smoother texture and was nicely spiced. We also brought back a plain sharp cheddar melt for someone in the office and she thought it was meh.
2. THEY RAN OUT OF STUFF BARELY INTO THE FIRST HOUR. We wanted tater tots. Out. We wanted pumpkin soup. Out. What else were they out of? Don't know. I stopped asking.
3. FALSE ADVERTISING. Don't trust the prices on their website. They're not necessarily true. I didn't take note of everything while I was there, but a cup of soup is $3 (not $2) and tater tots are $3 (not $1). $3 tater tots?! You better be getting a whole bag's worth.
4. SALES TAX IS EXTRA. Come on, we're ordering from a truck. What's with the mysterious "read the fine print" pricing? Add the sales tax ahead of time.
5. SOUP SAVED THE DAY. Okay, this would've been 1 star for me had it not been for the carrot and ginger soup which was only offered because they ran out of pumpkin. I liked it, but I wouldn't wait in line for it.
(UPDATE: One of the owners emailed me based on this review. Very kind. They did say they will be doing their best to improve. I can always appreciate that. And did offer a free melt. As the weeks go by, I'll be checking out other yelpers reviews and hopefully it will entice me for a return visit. I wish The Grilled Cheese Truck" all the best!)
This is definitely a MEH.
Tried their mac n cheese and pulled pork and it didn't have much flavor. I say, for $4 bucks more, less of a wait and more side options, make your way to Lemonade in Venice, to try their version of a MacNCheese with Short Rib sandwich. Hunkin servin of mac n cheese, thicker bread and a tastier meat.
I also tried the mozzarella and heirloom tomato grilled cheese. Great flavor, good amount of mozzarella but mozzarella just don't melt that well and the sandwich was a bit soggy.
Tried their tomato soup. Very good flavor but was thick enough that it could be mistaken for a marinara. Good dip for the sandwich. Carrot Ginger soup wasn't as thick but was extremely strong in flavors. Pretty good. Also you can get "shots" of these soups for .50 cents. I'd probably go that route if I ever went back.
If you see this Grilled Cheese Truck and it's more than 10 deep, walk away - just not worth it. Also, we got to the front and they ran out of TATER TOTS.
At the end of the day, if you're feeling nostalgic and want a grilled cheese sandwich? I say, make it at home and don't feel guilty about using processed Kraft cheese - hell it's got a helluva melt to it.
the truck just made my friday! i ordered the gruyere grilled cheese with tomatoes ($4.50), cup of tomato soup ($2), and tator tots ($3 - a HUGE portion that i actually had to split with a friend). thats aLOT of food for $10!!
the portion sizes were perfect, and you could tell everything was freshly made and the ingredients topnotch. it was absolutely delicious and i can't wait until they visit burbank again!
After months of my coworkers, friends and I looking forward to the opening of this truck we were completely disappointed. I stood in line for an hour and a half only to find that they had run out of pretty much everything. No Gruyere, no tomato soup, no tater tots, no basil. Did I mention they were parked in front of a supermarket? I'm pretty sure Pavilions has Gruyere and basil.
I gave you the one star because the cheesy mac & BBQ melt was pretty good as was the plain and simple cheddar melt. That being said they weren't good enough to get return business from me or any of my friends. The other star is because despite not having half the menu items, the workers were quite nice and I appreciate good, albeit very slow, service.
Went to the brig for their first truck service. It was windy. It was cold. The line, even getting there 45 minutes before opening was already long. Hell, just to get there you had to navigate around a maze that was Venice Blvd. with all the fallen shrubs and dried branches.
I had to try this out. It's been weeks hyped up and well, If there was ever the perfect setting for the comfort food that is a grilled cheese and tomato soup, last night was it.
Around 8:30 the truck was suppose to open... all that happened was the line got twisted around into the Brig's parking lot. By 9 they weren't open yet... It was getting dicy and some people were starting to get restless. Michele came out with some samples of the grilled cheese and then it was announced that only one half of the griddle was working and heating correctly, so there was going to be a delay as they called in the fix it man.
To those who didn't stick it out. Your loss. But seriously, it was the first truck outing and there is going to be kinks to work out. The fact that Michele walked out with endless supplies of tomato and pumpkin soup as well as a never ending line of tots just showed that they were making the best of a troubling situation.
While the hour and a half wait was a bit of an issue, the fact that they fed us through it with what they could was great on their part. These things happen, especially on their first try out.
Once the griddle was working, and it was fixed to serve up folks, the line moved right along. Now with a lot less people standing in it, to boot! and moved quickly enough as orders were placed.
On to the food;
The Caprese - Fresh Mozzarella, Heirloom Tomatoes, Fresh Basil $6.00
-It was really good. I enjoyed the Heirloom tomato in it. Tasted really good. If you're not into meat but want something with some jammed packed taste that is not over the top, this is the one for you.
Harvest Melt - Roasted butternut squash, Gruyere, Agave syrup, Fresh thyme and Balsamic reduction
- I have to be honest, I didn't like this one at all. It had way too much going on. It was as if there was a party in my mouth and someone just gave me a mixed drink that had way too much of every liquor in it. The squash was slices and not all that easy to chew. It was more like a squash sandwich than a grilled cheese. Which is a tough but hard line to make sure you don't cross in this sort of situation.
Sampled the Mac Melt - This is the one I'll be getting when I go to their truck again. It was good and while I didn't get a full sandwich, my attempt to try the others got the best of me.
Tots were great warm, but much like any tot, once cold they suck terribly. So eat them quickly.
The Homemade pickles were spicy as all hell but well worth trying.
Considering I had a lot of the soups before, I didn't need anymore warming up. But let me tell you this, I would chug a gallon of the Pumpkin soup. That was beyond delicious in every possible way.
Tomato soup on the other hand tasted a little too much like Marinara. So I'm sticking to as much Pumpkin soup as long as I can possibly eat it in this season. Though, I am one that loves anything pumpkin flavored.
While they had hang ups, the fact that they gave out 1/2 vouchers for the future order to those in line (again, those who left to soon.. you shouldn't have left) and that they were doing their first run, It was a great experience. So why can't I give it the full five?
Cause it's too soon. As great as it was, it still has a few kinks to work out. First off, their menu. Why would you put the plain grilled cheeses on the top of it? Why even offer a 1 cheese plain grilled cheese. Even if you could customize it, it's still two pieces of bread and a slice or two of cheese for $3-4 bucks.
Start the menu with the highlighted choice. Mac Melt or the Caprese would be good choices. If someone wants a plain one, put it at the bottom and make it interesting in that it has three or four cheese combination.
I think that, unlike Kogi that offers a unique meal, a simple grilled cheese has no place on the fusion chart. I like the idea the grilled cheese truck is going with the off the beaten track melts. Even if I didn't dig the harvest melt, I'm sure someone did and it's great to get something special like that from a truck. Offering a plain grilled cheese, even with additions, seems like a waste. Kogi might as well offer a carne asada taco.
Tax not included is also another factor. Something with street food is that they're catering to people on the street. I'd rather my $5 Mac Melt cost me $6, as long as I don't have to carry change in my pants. This way I can do the math in my drunken state well in advance in the 20-30 minute line wait.
I'm going to go seek them out again. I liked what I tasted (minus harvest) and the experience was overall good. so they got my business.
Pretty good. I'm sure this will be a hit late night or at festivals around town. I got the mac n cheese sandwich with pulled pork, Harvest and tater tots. The mac n cheese sandwich was awesome and I would definitely order it again, maybe without the pulled pork though because that was very filling. The harvest was different...there's a lot going on there. And the tater tots were just like all other tater tots I have ever had. I would definitely try this truck again and hopefully without the long line to order food.
I hate giving bad reviews.
Tried the truck opening night, happened to be in Venice. Waited over an hour, their grill broke, had to leave. They handed out free samples as consolation those were tasty enough to make me want to try it again.
Tried it again today near office in Brentwood. Waited 45 minutes in a line of fifteen people ahead of me. That's all, just fifteen, I counted. Ordered and paid for a grilled mac and cheese with bbq pork got a grilled mac and cheese no bbq pork. It was cool, cheese unmelted when I ate it on the walk back to my car.
Didn't complain because there was some poor girl ahead of with a complaint already logged and about 30 people still in line. I didn't want to be a jerk. So I ate it. Wasn't nothing special, however it wasn't what I ordered either.
So, now that I bagged my first restaurant here is my advice to anyone who runs into this truck or follows it on Twitter.
Let them get their kinks worked out and give them a try. The owner seems like a nice lady, the guys are working hard on the grill. Right now they're the John Gosslin of food trucks, they can't handle the hype.
I myself plan on trying them again if I run into them and there is no line. I don't imagine that being soon. If it's a better experience I will revise my rating. I think this is a clever idea and I hope they do good.
After much hype and anticipation the truck has finally opened and it's.. umm... alright. Nothing real great and nothing to wait more than 15 minutes for. I ordered the cheesy mac and rib with BBQ pork and it was pretty much what you'd expect from the description, although the BBQ sauce kinda tasted like something you'd find in a sloppy joe.
Verdict: Not bad. I would go back if it happened to be in the area I'm venturing to but definitely not worth tracking them down.
I was there at The Brig. It was a cold and windy night.
I stood in line. It didn't move. I stood longer. It still didn't move. No one was getting grilled cheese.
They came out with tomato soup and pumpkin soup samples, which were good (especially because they were warm and it was cold). Then they came out and introduced the woman who did the truck's art work. That's nice. I'm hungry. The line's not moving. No one is eating.
While they may have announced the problem to the people at the front of the line at some point, they didn't say a word to those of us in the back. We were there for about 30 minutes and when they handed out the soup, they didn't say anything like, "Sorry the grill isn't working. We'll make it happen. Please stick with us." This repeated when they introduced the truck artist...lots of happy talk but not a word about the problem. People were buzzing in the back of the line about the line not moving, so the lack of information was not limited to my wife and me.
Eventually, I wandered forward and looked inside the truck. I saw a lot of scurrying around, but no grilling happening. So, we left.
Another review from that night says they came out at some point and announced the grill wasn't working. That's nice. With a line like that on a night with inclement weather, they needed to keep the information flowing. Some would stay (we probably would have), some would leave, but they wouldn't leave with such a bad taste in their mouths.
Information is a good thing. Show respect for your customers by keeping them informed.
On Edit: The Grilled Cheese Truck contacted me after the review was published and offered me a couple of free grilled cheese sandwiches to make up for the opening night fiasco. It's always a good thing when the people running a business actually care.
Food: 6/5
Wait: 4/5 (expected given line length)
I have visited the cheesy truck twice now and not been disappointed.
In order of preference i have had :
1) the mac&cheese with pulled pork (wow! the pork adds a nice salty-ness),
2) the harvest melt (has a hint of sweetness) and
3) the caprese (i added bacon, also great taste, but it comes in third cause the cheese does not get as melty).
I also tasted a friends tator tots. they tasted like tator tots. no more, no less. Might be good to dip in soup which i hope to try next.
They had the computer up today which really sped up the ordering. Still a long line means be prepared to wait. price you pay for trying the latest food truck.
For those complaining, keep in mind they have been operating for 2 weeks now. Give em a chance to get the bugs worked out or give it a rest until the hype chills out.
Go with friends, make friends in line. people it's GRILLED CHEESE, have fun.

finally got to try this truck. i've been procrastinating because of several bad reviews.. but decided to give it a try anyway when they were in hollywood last week..
the food overall was ok. i think it was a bit overpriced for what it is. and i don't think i'd wait in line more than 15mins for that kind of food. if the line wasn't as long, i would've given them 3 stars but for now, it stays at 2. 1 star for the fact that it doesn't take long for you to get your food AFTER you've ordered it. and another star because the dessert melt was yummy, despite it being pricey at $6. the tomato soup was ok. nothing special. the cheesy mac melt was ok too. it was good and filling. but nothing was really special when it came to the food. most of the stuff you can probably make on your own. which gives you less of a reason to stand in that long line.
I had just read about a friend catching the Grilled Cheese Truck on Facebook and was so excited when we caught the truck near my office. I ordered the Harvest Melt, was worried that I wouldn't like agave syrup but the sandwich was so good I was glad I went with it. The owner actually came out and spoke with us for a while and surveyed the long line forming outside the truck. I also ordered the tomato soup which was great. I really enjoyed the food along with the fun of chasing down the truck with friends. It was worth the wait for a great grilled cheese, enjoy!
Thumbs Up!
I vouch for the Cheesy Mac and Rib Melt and a side of tomato soup on a cold night.
My first complaint was that when the truck posts that they are going to be at 416 Canon in BH, they should mention they are in the back alley behind the store of that address. After wasting 10 extra minutes looking for the truck it ended being a positive thing as I am sure some people couldn't find it and gave up, which making the line a tad shorter. When I got there the line was solid, but not ridiculous. It took about 20 min in line, but enjoyed waiting as I conversed with fellow food truck fanatics. After the extremely friendly ordering process noticed that tax was added. This truck should do what most all of the other trucks do and bake in the tax to the listed prices, as it gives more even, convenient totals. This could also make the line faster with easier math and less change for the server. Anyway, once I ordered my food came rather quickly. So line length to waiting ratio balanced out fairly well. Now on to the food:
-Cheesy Mac & Rib melt with caramelized onions, but the onions were absent in my order. ($7 + tax)
-Custom Grilled Cheese - American Cheese, bacon, avocado, basil, tomato, onions....but it was missing the tomato and basil ($8.50 +tax)
-Shot of tomato Soup ($0.50 +tax)
-Pickles ($0.50 +tax)
Other than parts of my order missing, this was still really good....but it is grilled cheese. I have never really had bad grilled cheese and I am sure I could have made this just as good myself. Soup was pretty good, but not amazing. The fact that they had sauces and seasoning out on the counter to add was great. The concept and friendly service are really good and its following shows. Food is exactly what you expect, nothing better, nothing worse. How can you go wrong with grilled cheese, bacon and avocado. The custom grilled cheeses add up, but the sides are well priced ($2 tater tots, $2 cup of soup or $0.50 Shot of soup). Shot of soup is a brilliant and great idea, as I just wanted to try the soup and not commit to a whole cup. Next time I will try something with the balsamic syrup and if that is really good, then they will get some unique/special points from me. Great truck to try once or twice, but the 5 hour food coma and doubt in my health after were tough to deal with.
Friendliness - 5
Ordering - 2 (Tax and missing toppings were negatives)
Speed - 3.5 (long line, but due to success, quick after ordering)
Presentation & Menu - 4
Food Taste - 4.2 (It is grilled cheese)

I wanted to love this truck. I wanted to dream about my return visits to this truck. But my cheese and bread lovin' heart was broken. I checked them out at KCRW's Halloween Masquerade with my sister. We spilt a macaroni and cheese sandwich and a caprese. Both tasted fine, but my issue with them is temperature. They were barely warm. C'mon Grilled Cheese Truck! Grilled cheese should be a hot, ooey gooey melted goodness combination of cheese, bread and butter. Both sandwiches fell flat. Not trying it again, unless they can guarantee a pipping hot sanwich.
Mmmmmmm! No need to say any more than that! You want cheesy goodness done right? This is where it's at! Had an American cheese melt, AND (that's right, I pigged out!) the cheesy mac and rib melt sammie! TO. DIE. FOR. OMG OMG OMG!
My only regret is that I didn't try a dessert melt. For sure that's next! Don't miss out on the yummilicious, oozy, cheesy goodness when it's nearby!
let me start off by saying that i really wanted to like this truck because of how much i love grilled cheese, and how these guys apparently compete in the grilled cheese invitational every year. i also really think it's a cute idea and a pretty good and filling food to eat while milling around, being a street urchin and all.
1) line went by really quickly. ordered a plain & simple with gruyere, and another one with fresh mozzarella. cash only. friendly girl at the counter is a plus.
2) our sandwiches come out pretty soonly afterwards, no more than 5 minutes wait. this is also a plus. the guy at the pick up counter was also friendly.
3) our sandwiches were barely melted. the bread is really nice and toasted and very wonderbread-y, but the cheese is in solid blocks and in the case of the mozzarella sandwich - still cold.
we were grateful for not living too far away, as we pretty much ended up finishing the sandwiches on our own stove burner. and yes, while melted, it was delicious. i would've gladly waited another 5, 10 minutes just to make sure my sandwich was a grilled cheese sandwich, not a regular cheese sandwich. hopefully they'll work out what they need to in the future, but for now, sadly, this won't be a truck i'll be following.
I am a huge lover of grilled cheese, so I was reallyyyy looking forward to trying this out. I walked away somewhat satisfied but underwhelmed.
A friend and I shared a mac and cheese melt, a plain and simple gruyere, the caprese melt, and the dessert melt (we wanted to try it all!).
The caprese melt was just okay, fresh mozzarella really isn't the best cheese for a grilled cheese, but I love caprese salads and the flavors were all there. Don't know that I would get that one again, but it was my friend's fave, and I did like it.
The gruyere was not melted AT ALL. It was basically just two pieces of unmelted cheese between toasted bread. I was really disappointed because I love gruyere. Seriously, after a 45 minute wait in line I happily would have waited one extra minute for a sandwich that was actually done.
The mac and cheese melt was the biggest winner, I really enjoyed it and the noodles in the sandwich gave it an unexpected but nice texture. My fave for sure.
The dessert melt was gross...whatever you do, don't order this one. I love love love nutella but there was hardly ANY in there at all...and the bananas were weirdly sweetened and gross. I took one bite and was done with it.
They were also out of tomato soup, which was annoyinggggg because I was looking forward to that as a dipper.
All in all, I still give it 3 stars because I really did enjoy the mac melt, and I think the gruyere would have been good had it been more melty. I would go again...on the condition that I didn't have to wait 45 minutes in line like i did today! But for a 15 minute or so wait, it's a good fixer for your grilled cheese cravings.
Looks like I was there the same day Marta N. was there, see her review. We really wanted it to be great and it was eh. We waited in line on Wilshire Blvd. in Brentwood for over an hour. They ran out of cheese and then ran out of everything! After our long wait, we were only able to order a regular grilled cheese-american cheese only-with tomatoes. As a consolation, they passed our free pickle pieces as we were waiting. Bad planning and we won't be back in that line soon. It was a good try.
Was wary of trying it b/c of the negative reviews on yelp but I was very pleasantly and deliciously surprised!
Got the Cheesy Mac and Rib (mac n cheese, sharp cheddar, bbq pork, carmelized onions on white) and it was cheesy and melty and yummy!
Would definitely have it again. Want to try the Harvest one next.
Had a taste of the tomato basil soup; not the best I've had (heard comparisons to marinara) but it was OK.
Cash only but they say credit coming soon.
Get Your Act Together.....PLEEEEZE.
Waited ONE HOUR last night on Abbott Kinney.
These guys don't understand you cant do volume cooking offering dozens of options and variations. It was a disaster.
They should see how the Korean BBQ guys do it. Several great dishes...all prepped before they get to location. Just take the money and serve,
There was a lot of hype about this magical grilled cheese truck (although most of it came from my roommate) so, at the urging of the aforementioned roommate we went to hunt it down.
After hitting an ATM - it's cash only, and we are perpetually without, we located the truck and then parking. The moment had finally arrived.
The line was about 8-10 people long and took about 20 mins to get to the front. Once there, I ordered the cheesy mac melt, plus bacon, a dessert melt (nutella, roasted bananas and marshmallow) and a coke.
Cheesy Mac Melt- it was pretty good. The pork and onion might have been a little better than my own bacon, but both were good. ($7? with the bacon?)
Dessert Melt - eh. The bananas tasted weird. Would have been better with slices instead of roasted banana mash. ($5 ish)
I am also morally opposed to paying $1.50 for a can of coke - I'll skip it/bring my own in the future. Also, my friend's tater tots were still frozen - yuck.
I wish tax was included in the prices.
I would go again if I just happened to be near it and have cash to burn. Otherwise, I can steal their ideas and make them at home for waay less.
The Grilled Cheese Truck...What a concept. And oh so good. I haven't tried everything yet, but what I have tried is oh so Delicious. Friendly staff. Very Professional. This is one of the greatest things to hit the streets. I will be trying many more
