I loved this place as soon as I saw the little green door. From the outside it looks very unassuming and as you walk in you get enveloped in a cozy, warm, organic yarn experience!

The yarn products were eclectic with a great inventory to choose from, many of yarn bundles had small knitted samples out to inspire your imagination and creativity.

Leslie, the proprietress  was lovely and very knowledgeable on the sources and sustainability of every item she sold. While i was there someone came in looking for last minute help on their sweater and she was able to help solve their knitting woes.

There was a pot of water brewing on the wood burning stove for tea and I immediately curled up on the couch.  I could have stayed in there for hours gabbing and knitting!!

I live in Southern California so now i get my fix online using their website http://www.greenthread...

This place is full of heart, go and enjoy!

This is a gem. Small, cozy yarn shop with the two nicest gals running the place. And a cute collie dog to boot!
All the yarn was organic or sustainable. There is a comfy large couch in front of the fireplace. Very inviting. I was just looking for a cable needle and ended up finding a treasure. Would have loved to spend the day knitting there, if I'd only known. I did get a great set of bamboo cable needles and some Lorna's Laces yarn, as well.
I have never seen "aloo" yarn before. It's like twine. They have a cool pattern for a large bag that used this product. Tempting!!
They teach classes here, too. I'll be stopping back by here for a look see next time I'm in town.

My husband and I visit the Eastern Sierra area at least three times a year and this visit, I wanted to visit the Green Thread Yarn Boutique. What a treat! Leslie made me feel welcome as soon as I entered the homey, cozy store. If you are a fiber addict, this is the place to come! They have a wonderful selection of TOPS related fiber and recently, have started carrying local Benton raised merino wool yarn. I try to collect local yarns from different places we travel to, and it was so nice to find another addition to my collection. I had a question about how to knit a certain pattern and Leslie took the time to visually show me how to do it. Last, but certainly not least, after I bought my yarn gems, Leslie asked me if I would like a recycled bag to put it in, which certainly backs up their green philosophy. I will definitely visit when I am in the area!

History

Established in 2007

The Green Thread began as Leslie Willoughby's vision of  a sweater shop to provide income for women working in cottage industries worldwide. Then she  learned to knit and You Know What That Means.

Yes, Yarn: color, texture, the one-size-fits-all substance of which creative dreams are spun, and a medium for a message of caring for one another and for the earth.  Yarn itself: a more affordable, accessible, flexible message than any single sweater could sustain.

Who has not imagined living in a small yarn shop (or perhaps your own stash has grown to that proportion)?  November 2007 The Green Thread opened in a closet-sized room.  Customers waited in the snow with their dogs for a turn inside.

The Green Thread seeped into the laundry room and flooded the kitchen.  That was Tim's last straw: he could no long cook amidst all the yarn.  A holiday makeover was in order.  By mid-January, the store conquered their former living room.

more space + yarn + employees = more happy customers
