It's a nice place to go for a romantic dinner or a small group of friends. You can go here either dressy or casual. It can get really rowdy when its the weekend and its later on in the night.

The service is really helpful and knowledgeable. The waitress was able to help pick a drink ( Flirtini) as well as entrees. For the price and portions - it is a fair deal.

    Things I suggest:
Crabcake appetizer : the sauce is VERY spicy but super yummy.
Tacos: any tacos they have, they make it well and the size is huge. I can never finish it and always take it for next day's lunch
Sorbet: its a nice assortment ( 4 types) and its very refreshing. Its a nice way to clean the palette after eating so much food.

The Green Room def. reminded me of a new york city lounge, once I walked in. The set up, decor and ambiance was just what I was used to being from NYC. This was my first visit to Vermont to see my girlfriend and we went to this place on a whim as well and if def had a nice laid back casual atmosphere.

I would love to go to dinner here next time I visit. The only thing I can say was, we had two amaretto sours my girlfriend and I, and they were made to perfection. The dj was also really good bumping the beats, it wasn't packed which was disappointing, a place like this should always be filled.

I don't understand how this place doesn't have more reviews...

I came here on a Sunday evening, it was nice out on VT standards so there was outdoor seating with people sipping on cocktails. Me & my date opted to sit inside underneath Van Gogh themed paintings which were for sale. Restaurant is dim with a candle on each table & carpeted floor. Menu's pretty simple & our waitress was extremely helpful/attentive without being a bother.

After we ordered a bottle of 2007 Malbec ($24), we were served  very warm & yummy bread with a side of garlic/olive oil which we asked for a second round of! We started off with the Creamy Artichoke Dip ($8) as an appetizer which was served on a red lettuce cup & bread sprinkled with olive oil. Perfectly creamy & flavorful without being salty.

Next, we tried the Vermont Rabbit ($12) which came with a cute little sunny side up quail egg. We're both rabbit virgins & I'm happy we had The Green House deflower us.

For entree we split the Black Angus Strip Steak ($25), we asked for rare & baby, they gave it to us jusst right! I am always soo happy when restaurants actually cook it according to how I ask. It was perfectly brown/seasoned on the outside & nice/raw on the inside. Served with a mushroom sauce on top of potatoes, we were satisfied.

Lastly, we HAD to try the Sorbet Trio ($6) for dessert. It came with a scoop of pineapple/strawberry/blood orange & topped with a dallop of fresh whip cream... yum!

The restaurant is a cute little spot with simple yet delicious food. I had a wonderful experience & would definitely come back again.

I came here with a large party, and had arranged for a private room. I was told we were too big to use the regular private room, but we would be accommodated in another room, fine.

We arrived to tables pushed together in the regular dinning room as our "private room."  The private event contact was not there and apparently unreachable.  The restaurant was dark, like a bar, which led me and other to believe that it was to cover up the very old and dated decor and most likely the grime to go with it.  There was one other table, and from other yelpers, this seems to be common.  Unfortunately, since we were 18 people, we couldn't go anywhere else.

The food was actually better than expected after my initial disappointment/frustration/etc. We had chosen the menu prior to our event and had four choices of the $8 and $16 menu.  The service was friendly but a little slow.  Although the food was better than I expected I would not return. I believe there are better restaurants in Burlington with a better ambiance, and ones that would plan a proper private dinner.

This place is top notch.  Great food, drinks are always flowing and best low key vibe within the green mtn state.

Good people, high quality staff from bartenders to waiters and if there ever is a problem mgmt is always on point.

One quick side note if ur ready for a good bite to eat treat yourself to a duck taco...

Food so bad that I had to send it back (for the second time in my life), unapologetic server, lame crowd (except Laura Cheney...and us) and mediocre drinks.

There are so many great restaurant/bars (see Daily Planet) in Burlington, and I get back to VT so rarely that The Green Room will not likely get a second  chance.

We just ate here tonight as part of the first Vermont Restaurant Week.  So I can't speak to the whole menu, but I can say that our experience was excellent.  Salads were well made and balanced, our cocktails were creative and interesting, and our main courses were wonderful.  Lobster risotto was creamy and loaded with lobster and shrimp.  My steak au poivre was everything you want the dish to be: pepper with a rich and savory sauce served with roasted potatoes and some delicious greens.

For dessert, I had a butterscotch crème brûlée and my wife enjoyed a trio of sorbets that were loaded with fresh fruit flavor.

It was an excellent meal and I'm glad that we were able to enjoy it during restaurant week.

I'm shocked that I had such a different experience here than the other reviewers.  I have been back here several times, and I have yet to come across anything to complain about.  My first couple visits we only sat in the couches and drank good wine, ate great tapas, and listened to good music.

Last Saturday I had some of the best hummous (curried hummous with red grapes and grilled pita) followed by some great spanikopita with feta dip.

The food presentations here are creative and appealing, and the staff has always been thoughtful and knowledgeable.  I try to come her as often as I make it to Burlington, and I find it to be a relaxing atmosphere most of the time (sometimes the music is quite loud and it is more like the other downtown bars at that point.)

First as you stroll into The Green Room, you notice how empty it is. The bar runs along the left side of restaurant and there is a lounge to the right, with black leather chairs. There were a few patrons milling around the bar, no one seated in the tables or in the lounge. Granted it was six o'clock on a tuesday night and there were more people when we left later.
We requested a table to for six and were escorted to vinyl table in the middle. The faint smell of ammonia and the empty room was not a enticing environment.
My partner and I ordered the pork belly appetizer and smoked salmon skin crostini. The pork belly was rich and crispy. My complaint was that they only gave you one slice. The salmon skin crostini was subpar. Caviar on salmon has been done before, and this was not executed well. There was a ball of salmon skin and a measly sized portion. If the dish indicates there is to be salmon skin, I would expect more than half a bite-full of the said skin. The salmon lacked flavor, no salt, no chives, and no creamy sauce to bind the dish together.
Also, the The Green Room is extremely disorganized! The entrees were few and on a separate menu. The tacos that were advertised on the website, and were not on any of the three different menus available. The desserts were not on the menu at all!
We ordered a trio of sorbets: fig, lime and strawberry. The fig tasted like they actually used figs but my favorite sorbet flavor was the lime.

This is a restaurant that trying to be fine dining. It does not have the capacity to produce the quality food that it claims to make. Will not be back unless extremely desperate.

A lesson learned, if you want dinner out in Burlington on a Saturday night it's a good idea to make reservations.

My boyfriend and I has a restaurant all picked out for dinner, but upon arrival found out it would be an hour wait, which didn't sound that great considering we were hungry and it was raining out. We wandered for a while and ended up at the Green Room.

From the outside it looked cute. Regular tables, but also some couches and low tables for a more relaxing dinner. We were seated in the back corner of an almost empty restaurant, which was odd, but at least we weren't bumping elbows with anyone. The weirder thing was although they had some nice seating with the couches, the rest of the tables and chairs were the type you'd find in a bad Chinese takeout restaurant. Totally uncomfortable and didn't match the prices on their menu.

The menu said it offered vegetarian selections, which we asked about before being seated. We were told you can basically substitute anything on the menu to make it vegetarian. Cool. When the waitress came over I asked about substituting the meat for veggies in their quesadilla, she started to tell me they were pre-made and didn't know if that would be possible. This is not cool on two levels: pre-made food and totally contradicting what we were already told.

So in the end I got my quesadilla and my boyfriend ordered some peanut noodle/fish special. We both started with the herb salad, which could have been good, but the herbs were not in small enough pieces. I don't want a whole mouth full of parsley or cilantro, but it's great to get a bit of the flavor. Our main courses were good, but we waited forever for them. The drinks were blah. The menu there was very uncreative to the point that maybe we shouldn't have even ordered anything.

There are so many great restaurants in the Burlington area that I would not go back here again. It wasn't terrible, but it just wasn't good.

Where to begin?  Food was pretty bad.  Service was terrible.  Their beer lines need to be cleaned because the Switchback that I got there tasted worse than any other Switchback I've ever had.  AND, to top it off, they stole from me!  I signed my credit card receipt for $52.32 and tipped in cash, and it showed up on my account as $63.32.  The server added an $11 tip to the cash tip that I left!

So in conclusion, if the bad food, service and drinks weren't enough to keep you away, maybe the fact that they steal from you is.

    Don't go here.

Most people that are local forget they have food.  But, the duck quesadilla is what keeps me coming back.  A friend loves the duck taco's and another did not.  But, the menu is interesting.

Great decor, good music, nice staff.  In the summer (and warm weather) great to sit outdoors.

8 of us enjoyed a special 40th birthday here and had an excellent time. We gathered with drinks in the lounge - mellow and a nice build up. Our waiter was both well versed and adjusted to our style. They have a great tapas menu with good variety. I tried tried the Wasabi Beef Tartar. I knew they had a great reputation for fresh meets and fish, so I was pretty psyched to give this a go. It did not disappoint - far from it. I loved it and shared (conservatively) with two who had never tried tartar. They loved it too.

I actually joined Yelp just to put the word out about how awesome this dish is.

    little plates, big flavor...
i've had a lot of hummus in my vegetarian days and the yellow curry hummus is a true winner - bursting with complex flavor!   the daily (the toppings change) crostinis were simple but absolutely delicious as well: apple gouda,  garlic havarti, shitake goat cheese and tomato pesto.  my husband also tried the crab cake - it was a large serving.  the server even convinced my mayo-hating husband to try their homemade chipotle mayo and he liked it!  $5 wine by the glass and $3 drafts - bartender-calls-it - was a great deal.  my only complaint was that we visited the green room to hear music.  we arrived around 8PM and because of a private party, there was a guest DJ supposedly scheduled at 9PM... we stuck around but no music.  this is probably as "sceney" as it gets in burlington - but still very laid atmosphere.  a definite must visit.

the food is pretty good, but i almost always refuse to go here to eat- the interior is in dire need of a makeover.  that carpet, those horrendous chairs, if i wanted to eat in an airport bar from the 80s i'd get in my delorean and get up to 88mph...

My brother and I were headed downtown last Saturday and we had it narrowed down between Asiana House, American Flatbread, and Green Room.  Man am I glad we ate here.  Decided to sit at a table in the bar/lounge area and got our drinks promptly.  We agreed on three menu items to split (it's Tapas style) and all three exceeded expectations.  While the Patron marinated mahi-mahi ceviche and the crab cake with house-made chipotle aioli (SPICY!!!) were great, the real star was the venison carpaccio.  It sat on a dish with fois gras toast, olive tapenade, capers, and egg.  Sort of like a niscoise on steroids.  Anyway, it was one of those amazing dishes that only comes around once in a really long while.  We just sat there snarfing and sighing and just barely held ourselves back from ordering a second plate...we didn't want gluttony to get in the way with the sublime experience.  The dish was $16.  A bargain.  I'm in negotiations for my brother to Fed-Ex me a second helping over dry-ice.

My favorite bar in Burlington, which has amazing cocktails made with fresh ingredients in a great environment where you can choose to chill at the bar, sit at a table for a fancy dinner, or hang with friends late night on comfy leather couches.  The food is outstanding...the curried hummus, the spicy crab cakes, the cornish hens...it's ALL good.
