The Hellenic Cuisine in 2009...
From the Mediterraneo to Miami and the beaches, is hard to find a Good Estiatorio(Restaurant for the Greek)
"The Greek Place" at Bal Harbour is a great Greek restaurant for all ages.
They have some really excellent dishes that bring me back to my ancestor's cuisine in the Mediterraneo.
All the dishes are ALWAYS Fresh. Among them a Crispy Spanakopita, Tiropita, Organic Style Horiatiki and of course the "Grilled Catch of the day" is really, amazingly fresh food.
Service is always fantastic when Jenny and her Greek Crew is in charge of your table.
Missing dishes on the menu: The "BRIAM" with Potatoes, Eggplant, Zucchini, Garlic and Onions and artichokes according to my great- grandmother as well as the famous Greek Dessert: Galaktoboureko.
A Family Greek Restaurant within 0.1 to the Best Beaches in Town...
I admit that good ol' TV advertising peaked my interest in wanting to visit this restaurant, as I've caught their commercial on several different occasions. But during a stroll this past weekend in Surfside, we happened to stumble upon the restaurant instead. Serendipitous? Maybe!
Although the restaurant has outdoor seating, all the tables were filled. And given the predictable rainy Miami afternoons, we opted to dine inside instead (and sure enough it did rain later on). Inside the walls are lined with pictures of the Mediterranean and each table has a vase with fresh flowers. You can't miss the columns in the middle of the restaurant which lead to the bar area. It's very cute, but my boyfriend said it reminded him more of something you'd see at a wedding.
The service was a little longer than we would have liked, but it was very busy with what appeared to be regulars as the wait staff knew many of the patrons by name - so I can't fault them on that. Aside from this, our waitress was extremely pleasant. We ordered the hummus appetizer (served with pita and seasoned toast) and she offered to bring out more bread at no extra charge. This certainly worked in our favor because the toast they serve is addicting.
As for the food, I had a hard time trying to choose what to eat for some reason, maybe because it all seemed delicious. The wait staff would walk by with different plates and it all looked appetizing (especially the pasta). With so many choices I just decided to go with something familiar, the chicken and gyro platter, which was delicious down to the very last bite. The chicken was seasoned to absolute perfection. The flavors of the rest of the dish blended together harmoniously - especially the lemony sauce they included - whatever it was, I would easily buy a jar of it to put on just about anything.
All around this was a nice find.

The Greek Place in Surfside is a great neighborhood Greek restaurant. They have some really excellent dishes, and a great Greek wine list that you should try.This is a little gem and you should stop in one day.
