Ok, although I live only about two miles from Sweet Auburn Market and have for a LONG time, I'm embarrassed to say that I've never been here until this past Saturday.
I'll definitely be back again soon to visit The Greek though! Menu is traditional Greek food, like gyros, hummus, spanakopita...PLUS the most delicious pizza ever. I wish I had known about this place sooner. We had a slice of pizza with fresh tomatoes and basil, and a slice with gyro meat and tomatoes. The produce was FRESH--real food, not canned crap and they didn't skimp on the basil like pretty much every other pizza place that does slices. The crust was amazing too and I'm very picky about crust. They also gave us a sample of spanakopita, which was some of the best I've ever had! We ate there (they have some bar seating and tables nearby), but it's more of a "get it and go" type place in my opinion. We'll be back for take out this Saturday fo sur! -

**WOOP WOOP!!! HOT DOCTOR ALERT!!!**
Judging by the eight or so smoking hot guys in white coats, The Greek is a favorite of the Grady Hospital crew, which means the eye candy is hard to beat. Thankfully, the food is hard to beat too.
I was anxious to see how this joint stacks up to Nick's, just around the corner, so I stuck with my typical order: a gyro salad. Unlike Nick's, The Greek puts their gyro meat right on top, and it's a very well seasoned blend of beef and lamb. Unfortunately, it's also pretty dry, and no where near as greasy as Nick's. This is both a good and a bad thing.
However, the salad itself has Nick's beat by a mile. This is a true knife and fork salad, with tons of big pieces of romaine, thick slices of peeled cucumber, and tomatoes, all covered with a generous sprinkling of feta cheese. My only complaint is that I wish the dressing and tzatziki sauce containers were switched! I still had lots of homemade Greek dressing left, but I was scraping the sides of the tzatziki sauce container.
It's a bit smaller than the salad at Nick's, with considerably less meat, but it's also $2 cheaper. Add the air-conditioned seating area, short wait, and friendly staff, and I think I've found my new go-to to-go place.Listed in: Lunch Bunch, Low-Carb

Calling all Pizza experts! The Greek Gyros and Pizza should be your next stop!
I came by today for their Opening Day festivities and picked up some free pizza! Whatever it was I had, it was gone in approximately one minute and twenty three seconds.
I tried a piece that had pepperoni, sausage, and some sort of other meat. The sauce on the pizza was one that I could actually taste. A little sweet, a little spice... typically sauce is not my favorite part of a pizza, but that was the case today!
The crowning glory is the crust! Unlike the current pizza faves around Atlanta, the Greek Gyros and Pizza's crust is substantial. It's a little thick with a buttery crunch on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. The actual pie part of the crust was thick enough that I could actually hold the piece with one hand and eat it, without any toppings falling off.
I missed what the prices are, I think $2.25 a slice, but it's definitely worth it to get an entire pie. I'll be back!Listed in: Lunch at Work (Downtown)

Alright, I am usually not so hard on pizza places, I subscribe to "pizza is like sex..." When I picked up my slices of course I expected thin, NY style slices. What I got was thick slices that had the shape of Pizza Hut (thick & semi deep.)
So I decided, even though that is not my type of slice, I'll try to be objective and enjoy it for what it was. Nope, sauce and dough was bland. it was all bread and no flavor. The salad was alright. -

This was my very first time visiting the Sweet Auburn Curb Market in Edgewood, and I freakin' love this place.
Any establishment that houses, all under one roof, African cuisine, gyros, and at least two separate vendors that will sell you a whole pig is going to win me over pretty quickly. The market has a great vibe to it, and if I worked or lived in the area, I would be there constantly.
My first stop for the afternoon was the Market's newest restaurant, The Greek Gyros and Pizza. In fact, The Greek is so new that it hasn't even opened yet. At least, not according to their website or any other news blogs that I've read. They aren't slated to actually open until April 14th.
Leave it to FoodieBuddha to somehow stay ahead of the curve and know they'd be open 8 days early. And by "somehow", I mean that he follows them on Twitter.
So, by now, we all know that I'm a complete slut for the following: Chicken biscuits, Cuban Sandwiches, and anything that is seasoned with, consists of, or has shared cutting board space with some form of pork. But did you know I'm also a total whore for a great gyro?
Well, now you do.
The Greek, which is basically a countertop food court stand in the middle of the Sweet Auburn Market, is no-frills, straight up, Greek fare. With selections such as Hummus, Stuffed grape leaves, pizza, gyros, and kabobs, the menu reads like almost every mom-and-pop Greek joint that you have been to. And I say that in a completely positive way.
I'm a big believer in the philosophy that simple, classic, well-executed food can stand up to the most fancified or "revolutionary" take on any cuisine under the sun. And if you want a solid gyro, The Greek is a great option.
I know it's not a very flattering picture, but this is the Gyro Wrap. As any good gyro should, this contains rotisserie roasted lamb and beef, tomato, red onion, and tsatiki on pita. We also added some extra feta, which I would recommend. Granted, I had a few mouthfuls that were ALL feta that weren't my favorite, but it was still good feta cheese and all of the evenly distributed mouthfuls totally made up for it.
Everything in here worked. The meat was juicy and (I believe) freshly shaved, the tomatoes were ripe, the pita was soft, and the tsatiki was creamy. In trying to describe this to Buddha, I had to choke down the phrase "street food", mostly because that is already my foodie equivalent to the most recent Kings Of Leon album- played out. But that is the only way I could think to put it. If some dude at a cart served me this gyro in New York, I'd wolf it down on the street corner with a shit-eating grin on my face. And I'd probably come home talking about how we need guys like that in Atlanta.
Buddha also had a slice of their cheese pizza (white cheddar, feta, and provolone cheeses) that was pretty damn solid as well. I love the buttered-up pan style crust that you often find in Greek pizza, and this hit the nail on the head with that.
There is nothing revolutionary about the fare at The Greek, but I don't think that there should be. It you want a tasty, messy, old-school, delicious gyro, this is a great place to find one. -

I know pizza is all-the-rave at The Greek, but I was all about th gyro. And it was amazing. I'd never seen so much lamb wrapped in yummy pita! Couldn't begin to finish it all, so I took it home and had it for 2nd breakfast. :)
And the surprise delicasy was the potatos. Oh my god were they delicious. No understatement here: best I've ever had.
The owner is as full of character as they come and 100% pure Greek.
Super nice guy, who is clearly passionate about his food. -

For everyone looking to follow the next resto craze. I said it first, the Greek's pizza is the jam. I am not huge pizza fan to begin with. And I think we can all agree that Atlanta is sorely lacking in even decent ZA. That being said, I have found my newest indulgence.
I procured a large sausage, pepperoni and onion pie. The smell wafting from the box is enough to make you drool. The pie was huge and heavy. Insanely loaded down for those of us used to overpriced, under dressed delivery. I was impressed from the first bite due to the crispiness of the crust. The sauce is fresh tasting , not too sweet or spicy. Just right, The cheese is so much better than I expected I had to ask what the difference was. It's white cheddar. Well dang! It's way more tasty and has a bit of a sharp bite to it that complemented the meats very nicely. It seemed way less oily as well. The sausage was a great spicy accompaniment to the pepperoni. All in all I would say it was a delightfully tasty treat. Not too heavy but very filling. I was very surprised at the price. 15$ for a hearty pie. Less than a 20$ for a real handmade, freshly topped ,crispy crust, kick ass ZA!?
Sign me up.
The only drawbacks are that you gotta get down there at lunch and the market's parking lot is a little hectic.. The SACM has limited hours. But it's pizza, they age well. And they do not have bacon as a topping. Dang! But I hear the Gyro is the jam, so I'll forget the bacon as soon as I try one of those.Listed in: You will find me here

Some of the best Gyros I've ever had. Johnny is a friendly and fun guy too. Stop in or order out for lunch, you won't be disappointed.

I've never had Gyro on a pizza before. Let me assure you, it's wonderful! The pizza at The Greek is absolutely delicious. The crust is and tastes homemade and the sauce is incredibly tasty. Overall, a very homemade-tasting pie! My buddy had the Greek Sampler Platter and is still talking about it. I'm definitely going back and soon - very anxious to try more of the menu!
