I have to agree with everyone else - The Great Indoors is a unique and over-priced place to shop. When I first walked inside, I was overwhelmed at the size of the store and surprised at all of the household items (kitchenware from plates to blenders; clocks and bric-a-brac that may well have been plated in gold; furniture and bedding). Our intent was to find a kitchen island, which we did - $400 and of obviously poor craftsmanship, the wine rack portion in the middle had absolutely NO straight edges (it was supposed to). For $400 I'm quite sure I can find better quality "furniture" elsewhere.
Hitting up the clearance areas (I found one) are probably your best best, unless you're loaded. Then you can probably have a great day at the Great Indoors :)

The Great Indoors is actually not that great because I've encountered staff who are pretentious and will not generally assist you if you show up in your weekend "Work on the house" attire. !!!!
Hello !!! This is a overpriced Home Depot !!!
Also, the prices are high and although the store itself is clean and meant to draw housewives who make financial decisions; the knowledge of the staff can also be limiting (i.e. try talking about your project at home and it seemed our sales associate was loss and more concerned about whether we'd purchase the more expensive product).
In short, it's a nice place to get ideas about what higher-end products are out there but it's probably just easier to pull into your neighborhood HD or Lowe's where you don't need to show up in your Italian clothes to receive prompt service.

I've been to great indoors on 5 separate occassions. I have purchased two different things from them. The first was a Pedestal sink and the second was about $1000 of marble subway tile.
I don't think I'll ever go back.
The reason that I had gone there in the first place was the selection. They have a huge store and a nicer quality merchandise. Unfortunately, they also have sky's the limit prices to go with their nicer quality merchandise.
There is nothing that steams me up more than to pay $17 a square foot for tile and find the same tile at a regular, privately owned business where it retails for 9.50 a square foot. Pardon my French, but wtf? Perhaps I am guilty of not 'shopping around'. Perhaps they are scam artists. Either way, my informed brain tells me that if I shop a larger retailer, it was because of their larger selection and also to take advantage of their economy of scale. Right? High quality and reasonable prices - wouldn't you think this as well? I was wrong on both counts. Can I say "What the duck!"? So, lesson learned. They got me, but they won't get me again. How did Georgie Bush say it once? Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, . . . Georgie didn't quite get that right though did he? I think you get the idea though.

The Great Indoors has a nice selection of items you'll find on your home's Christmas list. Grab a cup of Joe or whipped dipped sugary of sin from Starbucks and waltz around daydreaming of what you could have. Then imagine the sticker price and land back on earth. Buy from Great Indoors and you can expect a little sticker shock. Most of their items are overly priced.
Needless to say I did find my light fixtures and microwave here.
2 stars for being overly priced and being too pretentious to their customers.
