The Good
* Rate: $109 on a Saturday Night
* The Room : large with couch
* Staff: friendly

The Bad
* TV - tiny, only 20 channels, and lousy picture
* Air - the fan was very loud

The Ugly
* Wetbar - the food in there was all stale.  For example, the Rice Crispies bar was apparently on its way towards petrification.

I had an interview in this area, and I stayed here a couple of nights.  The hotel itself was fairly spacious, and quiet.  It also includes free wi-fi.  Although the quality of the room did not seem to live up to the $175 rate (that was the rate i was offered).  I had a couple of nights here paid for me though, so I wasn't complaining too much about it.

If you're in the area on business, this hotel works out pretty well.  In addition to serenity, there is also breakfast and happy hour here.  I never went to the happy hour, but I did make the breakfast once, and it seemed a little better than the average free hotel breakfast.  If you're in the bay area to play, I wouldn't recommend this hotel.  There is not much going on in this area, and I would find a more interesting place/area to stay.

One thing to note, the first night I was there, when I had an interview the next morning, there was police cars or fire trucks driving by with sirens on.  This went on for about 20 minutes.  I have no clue what was happening at 2am on a Thursday night in Sunnyvale, but they caused quite a bit of commotion.  This didn't happen the following night, so I'm guessing it was a one time deal, but don't say I didn't warn you about the late night alarm service provided by seemingly all the cops in the South Bay...

For the business traveller this place is great.  Its nice, its clean, parking is free, there's free in room wifi, and there's a great continental breakfast that's included.  That said, I really can't speak to the prices as Google was nice enough to pick all that up for me, but I have nothing bad to say about the experience and would definitely recomment that people stay here if they are in the area.  Oh and the turn down service and complimentary chocolate left on the pillow was a nice touch.

On a lighter note however, I should mention that apparently either the maid or the guest before me left the window open which I thankfully discovered before calling down to the front desk to complain about why the air conditioning wasn't working at 2 am.

My husband and I had our wedding reception at The Tarragon on Murphy and decided to stay somewhere close by for our wedding night.

After looking around some, my husband decided to book a room at The Grand Hotel. We used the limo service from the restaurant to the hotel. The limo was out of commission, so we were picked up in a white SUV. The driver was cool and we chatted some on the way over.

It was pretty late when we got there and the lobby was attractive and deserted. We checked in and had to pay. I only had my debit card with me and was informed that they did not take debit. It was all I had, so unfortunately they had to make an exception. It was pretty irritating because the guy behind the counter was rude about it. I think they should have told us what modes of payment they took when my husband made the reservation, but whatever.

We finally got up to the suite and it was very nice.

The package that my husband had gotten was supposed to include champagne and chocolates in the room - which were not there. We called down about it and after a while they both came. The chocolate had fingerprints on it though. Like whoever plated it up wasn't wearing gloves - GROSS.

The next afternoon the maids came through while we were getting ready go grab something to eat. They were talking to each other (in spanish) about the state of the room, etc. It wasn't bad at all. We're not slobs or animals. It was our wedding night, but come on. We had our bags in the front room, my dress was in the closet and granted, we hadn't made the bed or anything... I thought that was pretty rude. Maybe they didn't think we could understand what they were saying, but that's even worse in my opinion. It just kind of embarrassed me and that shouldn't have been.

They did have a movie service that we took advantage of. It was free, but they did have to bring the movies up to us each time and not all of them were always available.

The hotel itself was nice, but I felt that the staff could have been a little nicer / more professional. Maybe I just expect too much from a place that touts themselves as being so "elegant."

The rooms are nice, but the evening hotel staff was extremely rude and very unprofessional.

When we had an issue with the room the front desk staff continuously tried to pass the buck to their manager. The entire time her "boyfriend" was behind the counter adding commentary to the conversation while he was leaning against the wall in what looked like dirty gym clothes.

Eventually I asked to speak to the manager... she eventually showed up and was dressed just as professionally as the "boyfriend" in a jump-suit. Like her coworkers, she evaded the issue and tried passing the buck, this time to regional manager.

I booked rooms at this hotel for our wedding and was pleased with the excellent service that we received from the start. The sales manager gave me an excellent rate on a suite for 2 nights. Our guests had no complaints.

3 things though- we had some special requests that didn't go as smoothly as we hoped. No big deal, but it still happened:

#1- After the first night, we had asked the bellboys to move my husbands belongings into the suite (we slept in separate rooms the night before the wedding). By the end of the night, his belongings were not there. We had to call the front desk and remind them to bring them up. They did, but they shouldn't have forgotten.

#2- my mother had arranged breakfast to be available in my suite as my bridal party got ready. They were supposed to bring the breakfast table up to the room by 7am, however it did not make it there til about 8am. We made a couple of phone calls to see what was going on, but their response was that it was on the way.

#3- we used the hotel limo to drive us to the ceremony site. The limo wasn't very clean- there was a shrimp tail on the floor (gross!). They should have vaccumed the car before using it that day.

Otherwise, the staff was fine, the rooms are gorgeous and very luxurious. The bathrooms are HUGE. And the price is right!

For our out of town wedding guests, we had a block of rooms at The Grand Hotel.  After checking out their rooms, my husband and I decided to stay there on our wedding night.  They offer airport transportation and a free limo ride to and from our reception site (The Del Monte Building).  The room and bathroom was HUGE (we stayed in their regular room).  They offer free breakfast with waffles and all and drinks during happy hour.  The staff is friendly and helpful.  Since they are a business hotel, they have great rates during the weekend. If you need to check in early, don't be afraid to ask. We checked in at 11am (so the bridesmaids could get ready there) and had no problems!

We purchased a night at the Grand Hotel at our daughter's school auction and decided to use to celebrate Father's Day.  The rooms are big and nice.  Our kids enjoyed jumping from bed-to-bed as they do at most hotels.  Because it is primarily a business traveler's hotel and we checked during the weekend, we pretty much had free run of the place.  The pool was nice and well-kept and the hotel hosts a happy hour that includes free drinks (from a full bar too) and a nice spread of veggies, fruit, chicken skewers and cheeses. The wait staff was exceptionally nice and a lot of fun.  The front desk person though could not have been less friendly.  We really enjoyed our mini-vacation nonetheless and would recommend the place to others.  Just take it easy on those free drinks at happy hour --- I learned the hard way!

RE: Night Auditor

To whom this may concern;

Saturday evening after driving from Sacramento from visiting family, I had arrived in Sunnyvale around 1:30am on Sunday. I had to use the restroom. On my way home I saw that Grand hotel and decided to stop and ask if I could use their restrooms. I walked in the lobby and there was an older gentleman slouched on the counter looking at a computer. I asked him if I would be able to use the restroom. He just stares at me for a whole minute without saying anything. So I said okay and proceed to the restrooms. I knew the hotel well all ready because I have picked up people that have stayed with you from my company.
As I am already almost in the restroom I hear him mumble a no as the door was already closing to the restroom. As I walked out of the restroom I walked up to the counter and asked the gentleman for his name. He asked me why. I told him that I had asked him if I could use the restrooms and just stares at me with no response and waits until I am half way in the restroom to say no that that is not hospitality nor customer service.
He continues to refuse to give me his name and states that the restrooms are for customers only and that is private property. I said okay and that I can understand this but initially when I asked he should have stated this instead of not responding at all. His response to this was that he was busy on the computer and this is why he did not respond.
As I comment on him not giving me his name and not wearing a nametag, which I know is part of hotel uniform. He threatens to call the police on me. I asked him why would you call the police on someone that is just asking for your name. He continues to pick up the phone and pretend to dial. I told him that I would be contacting his manager. He continues to follow me out to my car and take down my license plate number like I am some criminal for using your restroom.
Now I have in the past worked for many years in the hospitality industry. I would never treat anyone the way he treated me. I am not a criminal and I do not look any thing like one. Maybe I wasn't a "actual" customer that night but like I said I do currently work for a company that stays with you quite frequently and this showed me that this maybe the caliber of service you provide.
I would appreciate a response to this. Like I stated the gentleman would not give me his name but he was an older man in his 50's or so with an accent. Thank you in advance for your timely response.

This letter I had wrote to the manager and I have never heard a response from her. I have had people stay here as well while visiting me and it has never been a great experience. There is nothing Grand about this hotel. Hotel itself is okay but if you do not have the service when spending 200 some odd dollars its not worth it. There are so many hotels in the area where you can get a great hotel with great service!
