14 reviews for The Gramercy
went here for a friends birthday saturday.
very diverse crowd which is always nice. they played a mix of the usual club music, and also some salsa and merengue.
i tried the pumpkin cheesecake martini...blah. it wasnt good. but im just a sucker for seasonal drinks.
it was shoulder to shoulder when i arrived around 12 and that's always really annoying....but it did clear up which was good.
This used to be a dive bar (Lounge Ax) that had bondage shows... and was converted into a wannabe NYC club - hence the name (from Gramercy Park). it's definitely got cool decor, food is fancy schmancy and a little pricey, the music is too loud to talk
Synopsis: a trendy, upscale pub that seems a little out of place in a campus-dominated area... especially when it gets populated by rugby stripes and chinos. I guess that's what happens when you forget the $25+ NYC cover. ;-)
Tech Cocktail 2 was here last week and it was a really good time. Lots of networking, ambient music and awkward interactions between nerds and the opposite sex. Go awkward!
The Gramercy was a nice enough venue. It's all white 'n stuff. My only complaint is that it's so damn narrow! Sure we overcrowded the place by at least 100 people but even so, it was like trying to get from the bar to the stage at The Metro. But with less rock.
I wouldn't go there if I was just out and about, all in all it's an alright bar that has the shape of the Lounge Axe which used to live in the space but none of the charm.
Mixed feelings about this place...
Clean, nice bathroom attendant, really cool look to the whole bar.
Mediocre music, a total jackass bouncer, spendy drinks, and it was put best in another review... a "weird" vibe. I'm all for weird people (I myself being one of them), but this place was sort of like a soup with too many different ingredients.... a little "off" in a subtle way.
Ooo its all white!
Sleek and modern. Nice.
I found myself here for someone's birthday and it wasn't horrible (as I tend to pre-judge every L.P. bar).
I enjoyed my martini (Got the Liquid Gold because it had Jameson in it!) and the company. But still not special enough to become a destination for me.
This place is ok I guess. Always empty during the week but it draws a bigger crowd on the weekends.
I like the decor. The all white is a nice touch, very classy, but it really doesn't fit the area. It seems a little out of place in the depaul/lincoln park area which is more casual and laidback.
The saving grace is the food and the drinks. The food is excellent. The drinks are great. Try the sweettart martini!
The music is ok. I think it's better during the week. You'll get a more loungy atmosphere and you can enjoy good food and drinks. I would definitely skip the weekend crowd.
Went to Chicago Summerfest in Lincoln Park and stopped off in this place. Thought the decor was alright but I have to say the white couches had seen better days. All the wear and tear from drunk chicks standing up on them dancing in stilettos has done some damage. Thought their drinks were overpriced (captain and coke~$10) and I did not eat here so can't comment on the food. Some eye candy but very limited! They played older electronic music and thought that was OK but they had it up LOUD. I don't frequent this hood much so probably would not go out of my way to come back here.
This place is slammed late night. Great martini pours and a young Depaul oriented crowd. Excellent after midnight place.
After a recent art opening, a friend and I decided upon Gramercy for an evening dinner. We thought it would be expensive based on the decor...all white and very clean lines...looked extremely trendy. We were pleasantly suprised to find that not only were their entrees, drinks and dessert reasonable, but extremely good. Another plus...they make guacamole from scratch. Which means for this cilantro hater A +.
Was here on my birthday, saw a J CREW model so that was cool, but all the Tools and Dorks hitting on the girls trying to get you to sleep with them was super annoying. If you are up for some sweaty dudes trying to get down your pants and you having to basically hide in the bathroom and then run out of there, go for it. Overrated, sterile bar if you ask me.
My girlfriends and I came out of a show and walked right into a friend of ours who is the door guy here, and so we checked out the place. It has a sleek white interior giving it a clean relaxing type of place, but the music mixes that up because they play hip hop here. This is perfect for dancing, They also serve food here, which looked good from what people had ordered. The drinks are nice and strong here. The place seems to attract an African American crowd, and I was surprised it wasn't more diverse. I don't think that will stop me from coming in, becasue I really did enjoy the music and wanted to dance. I hear this place gets packed the later it gets.
Very cool decor, and I had fun, but deciding on the signature martini was a bad choice. It wasn't that good, it was overpriced, and it left my tongue a not-so-sexy shade of blue which showed up in pictures for a good part of the night. Also, the attendant in the ladies bathroom was very nice, but really - dispensing the towels isn't that much of an inconvenience and I don't mind. Not a huge fan of feeling guilty for not tipping the towel-dispenser lady. I appreciate the attempts at being a classy, upscale bar, but sometimes those extra amenities just aren't necc.
Is this place still open? I'm so not a fan....the all white decor is kind of scary and on the few occasions i've been there i've foundthe crowd to be a bit weird.
I've had great times at the Gramercy. The decor is very chic for this neighborhood that is filled with college bars and drunks. The decor is great..Looks like it doesnt belong in the neighborhood but in the goldcoast. Good music and drinks. Love the seating areas in the back.
