My first stay at Gracie Inn was in June 2006 and easily 5 stars. I recently stayed at Gracie Inn again and was so disappointed - mostly with the poor customer service (explained under "cons"):

Pros:
1. Clean, cute B&B with kitchenette inside room.
2. They have comfy robes.
3. Reasonably priced.

Cons:
1. The breakfast is pretty shoddy. You get a choice of a stale muffin, bagel, or croissant with juice and mediocre coffee.
2. There were no staff/innkeepers present 95% of the time we were there. When we checked in, we had to call a # to find out where she hid our key. The next morning, we had to call again to hunt someone down for breakfast and check out time. Upon leaving, we dropped our key at the desk and didn't get a receipt, let alone a "hope you had a good stay."
3. It's a little off the beaten path at 81st between York and 1st. About 10 blocks to the nearest subway, which isn't a big deal except it rained the whole time.

In comparison to the first time, in which we were able to overlook the crappy breakfast and location, at least we were greeted and there was a really nice person at the desk to get us oriented, take our breakfast order, and check us out. This time around it just felt like things were disorganized and there wasn't the typical hospitality that you expect at a B&B.

Unfortunately for them, their half-ass job gets them 3 stars.

History

Established in 1993

Building was built in 1893 as a single family home which the original owners lost during the depression. I was taken over by the state and turned into a boarding house. After WWII it was sectioned into 9 railroad apartments. It was renovated in 1992 adding an elevator and the fire escape to the front facade - reopened in in 1993 on it's 100th anniversary.
