The Governor is a nice place to stay at when visiting the Rose City. It is one of the few 4 star hotels in the city, and its decently priced. I got it for 150 dollars on Hotwire. When you approach the Governor, it looks like nothing special, but the lobby will change your mind. The rooms are clean and nicely appointed. It sorta reminded me of the Sheraton a bit. The bed was one of the most comfortable bed I've slept in in a while. One drawback was the view. I had a nice view of a vent out of one window, and a view of a wall out the other. I think this had more to do with me booking the hotel on Hotwire though. If you are hungry, Jake's Grill is located off the lobby. Read my review for it!

Stayed here one night. Hotel is located in central downtown. I had a car but saw plenty of streetcars and buses go by the hotels. It's only $2.05 by streetcar from the airport. Bathroom was updated without losing its' grandeur style. Mattress was great - very firm. I fell asleep right away. Only drawback was the shower. Water wasn't hot enough and water flow was not forceful enough.
I fully planned on walking myself from the Amtrack station down to the Governor, gloating on how I hadn't spent any money on gas, contributed to traffic, etc. etc. And then I missed my train. Sigh.
So I pulled into Portland, headed downtown, and found the Governor rather easily. I circled the block hoping they had a self-parking lot, and they didn't, only valet. Damn. One star off. Valet was pricey, but I figured what the hell I just saved a bunch of money by driving (yeah gas prices are high, but not as high as a round trip train ticket) and did the valet thing. Feeling snappy, I headed inside. The Governor is pretty classy. A really nice hotel, real comfy inside. Free WiFi throughout, a Starbucks off the lobby, and a work-out room somewhere. I didn't waste time on that, I checked in with the friendly people, got my card and headed up.
Elevator was an old thing that took forever for the door to open and close, but I found humorous. I could almost hear the arthritis in its sliding door. I got to my room and was impressed. Not huge, but I've been in smaller. It was really comfy, nicely decorated, really classy. My only complaint is I wish hotels would leave a box of tissue by the bed, as my nose was running (and my feet are smelling). Nice little bathroom as well -- with the extended curtain rod that pulls the curtain away from you. I kinda like this, as for whatever reason I don't like touching the curtain while I'm showering.
My view was of the inside courtyard of the building, but honestly who cares, I wasn't planning on hanging out in there much.
The Governor happened to be located, according to Google Maps, "69 feet away" from the Green Papaya, the location of the Yelp Elite Event I was down in Portland for. I didn't plan on that, I chose it because there was a pretty good web special on the room, but that was an added bonus. I headed out and walked around a bit, and found that the hotel is also located within walking distance of Pioneer Square, the Pearl District, and many other locations Downtown.
In fact... it's pretty much walking distance of Burnside should one wish to cross the bridge to the east side. Or to the East Sider. Or rather... should one wish to just walk back FROM the East Sider. I bar hopped my way back to the hotel and had a blast doing it.
I'm not sure what time check out was, but by the time i rolled out, hang over and all, it was around 11am and no one gave me a hassle. I yelped for breakfast spots, and when I asked, the girl at the desk handed me printed directions to get to several different breakfast places, like Mother's Bistrou, and the Bijou Cafe. Nice.
At the end of my stay, the valet only took a couple minutes to bring my car around, and then was kind enough to offer up directions to get to the freeway from where we were, unasked. Thanks man, didn't have to get charged for data on my phone for google. :)

Stayed here while on business trip. Place is a Historical building, and the ornate ceiling artwork definitely transports you back. The "oldness" of the building is combined with modern touch. No parking garage, valet only so that will cost you $27 a night. The staff are super friendly and courteous. On my first night I must have called the front desk 3 times and each time I was helped by a friendly voice. They brought me toothpaste at 11:30pm, then I remembered the box I shipped to the hotel and called them at 12:15AM, within 10 minutes my box was delivered. Then at 12:45 I called for a wake up call.
My first room was HUGE! Two big comfy lounge chair with ottomans, the working desk, and two queen size beds. The hotel has free wifi so that was a nice added bonus. My only quip - no refrigerator for their honor bar. Since my trip got extended, I ended up moving to another room. This room is in their newly renovated portion. Smaller and cozier room, but wonderful view of the city and river. King sized bed with flat screen TV.
Overall, good costumer service, wonderful location, and a great place to stay.

Got a screaming deal on Hotels.com - $99/night, top floor, view of Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Hood from our balcony.
Room was fine - older but fine.
Great location - walk anywhere downtown or in the Pearl.

Beautiful from the outside, and charming on the inside. The room was darker and smaller than what I'm used to, and the decor and furniture a bit outdated. It seemed quieter and less busy in this part of downtown, which made it a more peaceful stay. It's also located close to the MAX light rail stop, so you can basically go anywhere from here.

Just like the first to review said I was also only here one night and arrived in the evening and left in the afternoon. Architecturally, it is a beautiful hotel. The rooms were nice and I also noticed some things were dated like the sofa in my room.
It is within walking distance to many shops, restaurants and bars so you have a lot of choices where to go.
The staff was very friendly and helpful.

I was at a conference at the Governor Hotel and also stayed in the hotel for 1 night. Beautiful facade and interior - as a historic property I thought it was really nice. The elevators and certain hallways and corridors were definitely dated, but I was pleasantly surprised at the size of the rooms. No mini-bar which was a bummer, but the bathroom was nice. The staff was very friendly - ate Jake's Catering which was just ok.

Loved the Governor...nice room great staff, highly recomend. Great place to stay in the Pearl.
The Governor Hotel is a very nice hotel, in my opinion. The room furnishings were a bit dated, but they were full of charm and comfortable. The room itself was huge ... probably the size of three regular hotel rooms in New York City combined.
On Expedia, the room was about $110 for a Monday night stay.
Free high speed Internet access via ethernet cabling in the room - that rocks, right? :)
I liked Jake's Grill happy hour pricing after 9:30pm especially - $1.95 for a 1/2 pound burger and french fries or a chicken sandwich and fries (*as long as you bought a drink - and who wouldn't want a cola or beer to drink with dinner?).
I had a brief stay (less than 10 hours), but I will certainly return if visiting Portland again.
