The Golf Club at Star Ranch
1 review for The Golf Club at Star Ranch
To play at Star Ranch, you need to be able to hit a piercing 3 iron that is immune to wind and travels no higher then 50 feet off the turf.
If that phrase scares you, or worse yet, if you have no idea what it means, then either (1) stay away from this course or (2) have plenty of beer money with which to drown your sorrows.
The fact is, Star Ranch is a tremendously wonderful golf course. That said, you need a bag full of shots to get anywhere near your standard score. This is as close to "Hill Country Links style golf" as you're going to get. The wind is merciless, and many a Titleist or Top Flight have been struck solidly never to be seen again.
On the flip-side, if you know your way around the grass and are looking for a challenge, Star Ranch should definitely be on your dance card. The course is very well maintained and the holes are challenging but fair. In my view (good, far from great golfer), very few feelings equate with hitting a great shot at Star Ranch and walking down the gorgeous fairway admiring one's handiwork.
The clubhouse is cozy and rarely crowded and the bartenders are friendly and well-stocked.
If you're up for a humbling challenge and want to test your game, give Star Ranch a try. However, if you'd rather keep your 10 handicap intact, stay far, far away.
