Hit or miss... but when it's a hit, it's a HIT!

The Decent:
Cheese plate:  You can probably get all the cheeses in the cheese factory next door, but the pairings are done very well.  I really liked the Humbolt fog and sliced apple together and the St. Andre is always good (but they sell this stuff everywhere).

The Bad:
The first time I came here I had a nasty-ass sandwich with salty bacon which was dissappointing.
The Omlette was forgettable and the arugala salad was overdrenched
The waitress here was a huge bitch... i had a kind waiter the second time :)

The OH SO GOOD:
Turnip soup:  this was a special.  OMG...
Chickpea cake panisse:  hummuhnuh hummuhnuh... let me speechless and crying with joy

To be honest I've had a five star visit here, a one star visit, a two and today a three. I really, really want to love this place. Truly. That's why I keep on coming back, hoping to recreate that first time. That five star time.

But, why dwell on the past? Certainly, not the bad things which have been resolved.

Had a nice little lunch today (Saturday) and was seated right away without a reservation. Really enjoyed the sirloin burger although it was a little undercooked from what I ordered (or expected) and I didn't care enough to do anything about it. It was a rather tasty meal.

But, the flies in the restaurant are gross. Please, do something about that. If it was a one time thing I'd look over it but it seems like every time I've been there a fly is always buzzing around. Ick.

I guess at the end of the day, I'll probably keep on coming back because I've had more good experiences here than bad. I know that the service is either going to be fantastic or mediocre. I know that the food is mostly awesome.

Because I believe that I will come back. For another chance.

Ah "The Girl and the Fig"...such a cute little name for a restaurant in such a cute little town. How can you go wrong when you just wanna "ooh" and "ahhh" at everything? We walked in with a healthy appetite and high expectations. The ambiance was quaint and welcoming. The wait was not too long. And then things started to go downhill...fast.

On the menu:

The works - three selections of cheese, cured meats, seasonal fruit,
house-made fig cake & baguette. Eh, it was nothing special, not worth remembering, and not even worth mentioning. Moving on...

Duck confit & fingerling potatos - while the potato hash wasn't too shabby, I must admit, I think I've had my year's worth of recommended sodium intake from just one bite of the duck confit. While the duck itself was quite juicy, and not too dry, the entire experience was ruined due to the fact that my tongue partially lost its ability to taste due to the saltiness of the dish. What a shame, as I've had high hopes for this dish due to other Yelpers' recommendations. (Guys, you have let me down. Don't do it again. My emotions are not to be toyed with.)

Top sirloin burger - "top" sirloin burger?!?! Give me a break. This was a pathetic excuse for a burger and a shameful waste of good sirloin beef, if anything. The burger patty itself was so very, very bland. It probably needed a good helping of the salt that was in the duck confit. I'm a snob of many things, but dear God, how can you mess up on a sirloin burger? Salt. Pepper. Quality ground sirloin beef. Done. But I guess it's easier said than done because this "burger" was an abomination to my palette. We would have had a much better time at In-N-Out...or even McDonalds...

Pork belly - probably the only thing we didn't regret ordering. But I've had better...so yeah...

So overall...a complete waste of a swipe on my Amex card. The only thing I got out of the meal were the rewards points from paying via credit card...which will probably be redeemed for a gift certificate at a better quality restaurant serving better quality food.

Great little French bistro in Sonoma!  If you'd like to take a break from wine-tasting and want to check out the downtown area of Sonoma, this is a great spot for dinner.  It's located in an area of Sonoma that has that country-like, old-town feel to it.  It's great!

Food was delicious.  I ordered a pear martini, which was really strong (minus one star).  But, as soon as the food arrived, it helped with the strong taste.  My co-worker ordered a brie sandwich and I ordered the duck confit, which was tender and delicious!

Our server was fantastic and constantly checked up on us.

Very cute spot, I'd come back for dinner again or even just a cocktail!  Great place for a meal with girlfriends or a date.  :)

1.Overpriced
2.No A/C on a hot day & flies flying around.
3.Tables are not well balanced- you play teeter-totter at the table while eating - very frustrating.
4.Food is...blaaahhh...seriously, I've had better.

This experience was during lunch time on a weekend. Just go else where, seriously .

Good thing to hit up the wineries along the way to wash the ickyness away and start building a new appetite and put you in a better mood.

An amazing Grilled Cheese Sandwich.  I've been here twice.  Once for lunch and once for dinner.  The only reason for the four and not five stars is I have had overcooked frites both times.  Hostesses are very helpful.  I got in both times at the exact time I wanted.  Was seated right away.  This despite the fact that the restaurant was packed.  I'll definitely go back.

Must I be the first to say it? Overrated.

For a restaurant that boasts country food with a French passion, I expected wholesome, fresh ingredients executed with masterful technique. The first major strike was in the salt balance.

After the argula and fig salad we were left sucking down water. More figs, more acidity in the dressing, definitely less NaCl. Yet we were still hopeful, eager to fork into the duck confit. The meat was dry and salt masked. There was little frisee and what had to be no more than two fingerling potatoes accompanied by sweet roasted garlic which offset it nicely.

The saving grace were the mussels sitting in a broth of heavy with fennel and a splash of pastis, imparting a lovely anise flavor. They were not robustly plump nor remarkably orange, but they were tasty enough and provided the only break in our meal of disappointment.

Being noontime with mom, I abstained from the drinkage though the bar menu would be the only reason for a return. Local spirits decorated the shelves and flowed through the taps, and the wine list had many a varietal that would have made a tourist's head spin.

The lush garden patio with its unique metalwork is definitely worth a gander and a lazy afternoon. Next time, I'm sticking to cheese, charcuterie and tipple.

The Girl and the Fig.  The name suggests, to me at least, something a bit bohemian.  The location in Sonoma suggests local, sustainable, fresh food.  The menu suggests something vaguely french.  The Girl and the Fig is a tease.  It suggests a great deal but fails to fully come through on anything.

I opt to begin with a signature dish: heirloom tomato salad with watermelon and feta cheese.  An awkward tower of alternating watermelon and varieties of tomato, one slice spread with feta cheese soon arrives.  After toppling the tower I find that some tomato is mealy, some overripe, and one slice improperly cored being accompanied by what remains of the stem.  The plate is too salty, its one redeeming feature being the ripe watermelon.

Duck confit is a bit dry.  The potatoes that accompany it a bit oily.  The frisee salad off to the side doesn't integrate with the other components of the plate.  But the duck has a crisp exterior that partly compensates for the other deficiencies of the plate.

Flounder is properly cooked and fresh but is served over some overcooked spinach and a potato puree that is a bit oily.  Some oil surrounds the food and doesn't help.  But capers liven the fish.  OK but nothing more than that.

Service was distant.  My waitress inquired how I felt about each plate yet never made eye contact or evidenced any concern of what my answer might be.  Mechanical.  Bored with her job and my presence.

Came for lunch on Saturday w/o a reservation, and I knew right away that this is where I wanted to dine no matter how long the wait. Turned out to be less than 30 minutes, and they even call your cell phone so you can wander around the square while you wait. They are able to pack a lot of people into the official dining space, but they also have a full service bar & a lounge (that sometimes will have a server assigned).

Lots of options on the menu & all descriptions simply mouth watering. We ordered:

-Fruit & Cheese Plate (3 choices of cheese from current day's offerings, fig spread, nuts, fig cake, and fruit)
-Grilled Fig & Arugula Salad (a signature dish; perfect portion/balance for the cheese plate for people like me who cannot eat THAT much; delicious, but a lot of arugula)
-Top Sirloin Burger (another house specialty on dutch crunch; great choice for burger lovers; the bf got it with brie..and they were very generous with the cheese)

Next time I go, I need to try the steamed mussels. All starters are good portions and can probably make for a full meal. Don't pass up on the cheese plate. I haven't stopped thinking about it since!

Our server was not especially warm or attentive, but she did a good job of giving recommendations. My 2 complaints are that (1) there were flies throughout the entire meal and (2) the fig cocktail - while very tasty - was 3/4 ice. Each table near us just kept on swatting the flies back and forth to prevent them from landing on their food. It really affects the dining experience.

Overall, however, it was a great meal & I would definitely return next time I'm in Sonoma. You can even visit the tiny store (in the lounge) and purchase some of their jams/sauces to go. BUT, just in case you forget (and don't want to make another trip back to Sonoma), I recently saw the same jam at my local Whole Foods for the exact same price.

A nice little restaurant on the Square in Sonoma.  I eat here every time I'm in California.

I would describe this as more French/noveau American than "French country" per se.  It's moderately light, and as the name would suggest, they do try to work figs into a number of plates.

The wine list is fantastic.   They are very focused on Rhone varietals, mainly from California.  In fact, I don't think you can get your standard chardonnay/cab here.

Came here for dinner with some friends. I could barely decide what to order because everything looked so good. We got a cozy table outside by the fire and it was just lovely. I had the pan-roasted wild salmon (a special that night) and some fig ice cream -- both great. My dining companions all "mmm" and "yum"med their way through their meals as well.

The service was great, the atmosphere was lovely, and I'll definitely be back.

Just went here to cap off a great weekend in Sonoma, and were looking fwd to dining at what many consider to be 'the' place to eat in town.  To our shock, the food was awful. I was utterly confused by the strongpositive word of mouth from friends and also the good reviews on yelp.

We had:

tomato heirloom soup - tasted burnt, and pretty flavorless

smoked trout salad - the trout was more soaked than smoked, needed to be accompanied by the pickled onions and toast points to be palatable; on its own it was bland, moist and bordering on gross

heirloom tomato and watermelon salad - again a disappointment, and surprising since it was - hello - tomato season.  lackluster tomatoes, slightly over-ripe watermelon.

salmon entree - not bad, but nothing to write home about

pear brulee - a hard lump of flavorless ice cream, with some nicely glazed slices of pear on the side.

overall - a dining disaster, and from looking around the outdoor dining room, not many happy-looking diners either.  this spot has clearly outlived its legend.  better off trying the el dorado kitchen, had a terrific dinner there the night before.

First food stop in Napa Valley with the GF.

I had the Duck Confit. Garlic & parsley roasted French fingerling potatoes, frisée salad.

I don't think there has been any duck I've ever come across that I didn't like. How can you go wrong with duck cooked in fat? It had a nice crispy skin and went well with the acidity of the frisee salad. The fingerling potatoes were nicely roasted and had actual cloves of garlic. YUM!

The GF friend had House-made bacon and green tomato tartine. Open faced sandwich on grilled country bread, little gem romaine, pickled vegetables & gribiche sauce. I think my re-addiction to pickled vegetables started with this dish. I usually don't like tomatoes, but the green tomato on the tartine was pretty tasty. My only gripe with the tartine was that the bread was a bit too toasty, making it a bit hard to take a nice bite of the whole thing.

If you like bistro style french food, then this is definitely the place to be.

Unbelievable. It was so delicious!!! We were there for brunch and loved everything that came out.

We started with a cheese plate appetizer. The wait staff was knowledgeable about the cheeses and made some recommendations for us. We loved it! They have some really delicious cheeses and a pretty great variety, too!

I got the eggs benedict, which I had never had before in my life so I don't know what to compare it to. I did like it, though. I think it was a little lighter on the hollandaise sauce compared to other places where I've seen people get it, but it was certainly more than enough. One of the other girls who I was with also got it and said it was one of the best eggs benedict she had ever had!

Very cute restaurant and definitely a place worth stopping at when you're in downtown Sonoma!  Here's a rundown of the things I liked ... and disliked:

*  Great for brunch with an excellent selection of morning cocktails - bellinis, mimosas, bloody mary's ... definitely the best selection I've seen at a restaurant yet!
*  The salad here is SO GOOD!  The dressing is tasty yet subtle and the mixed greens are super fresh.  I love how they served salad with breakfast!
*  I ordered the Fritatta Basquaise, which was beautifully presented, but I didn't really enjoy the taste of it - the sauce was sweet tasting, which was not what I expected at all.  I had to add a bit of Tabasco sauce to give it a better flavor.
*  The Eggs Benedict and Duck Confit tasted excellent, according to my girlfriends.
*  YUMMY YUMMY lavendar creme brulee!!!!  Definitely the best I've had yet!! :)

Not bad - nothing special here but very friendly service and reasonable prices make this place more appealing.  I prefer their sister restaurant a ways down the road called Estate.  The food is average, the vegetarian dish with chickpeas was not bad, neither was the burger that my friend ordered or the sole that another in our party ordered. But nothing really stood out.

The cocktails were, well, also average -we had the lavendar mojito, fig bellini and pear martini.

Our server was friendly and attentive, and the place was packed on a recent Saturday evening.  I probably wouldn't go back as there are so many other lovely restaurants off the square.

The Girl & The Fig describes itself as country food with a French passion.  I don't usually eat country food or French food, so I had a hard time deciding what to get.  Every single thing on the menu was so out of my comfort zone.  I decided to ask the waitress for recommendations but received no help.  "Everything is really good," I was told.  K, thanks...back to the drawing board.  My boyfriend and I ended up sharing the crispy pork belly, heirloom tomato and watermelon salad, soup of the day (heirloom tomato soup), duck confit, and wild flounder.  I repeatedly insisted that it was too much food, but my boyfriend reminded me that we're not in Texas anymore.  I love being right, so I waited for the food to come out to say "told ya so."  Well...HE was right!  The first three items were teeny tiny!

So how do I describe the food here?  Quite simply, The Girl & The Fig takes a bunch of different food items that you would never pair up, and they make it work.  It's brilliant.  My favorite was the tomato and watermelon salad.  I would NEVER eat tomatoes with watermelon and feta cheese, but it was so good!

It's definitely one of those restaurants that you were glad you tried but you wouldn't put in your regular rotation.

Great food, but price / quantity a bit high.

Being French, I was pleased to see some duck confit on the menu, and enjoyed it very much. My wife got a succulent crab / avocado / melon salad. and I really felt like being back in France for a second: the portions looked ridiculously small compared to Californian restaurants I got used to by now...
The cheeses were good, but nothing exceptional compared to any "fromagerie" in any given town in France. OK, I stop now, as I know I'm spoiled ;-)

Ten stars in my book!
Our first visit, simply divine, over the moon with this place.  Order duck confit, aunt had flounder, cousin had sea bass...and we were joking that we would drive 1+ hour just to eat here.  Guess what?  We ate there yesterday 11/9, and are now planning a return trip this Saturday!!!

Everything was lovingly made to perfection, melts in your mouth kind of food, home goodness cooking, made with great care.  Everyone there should be very proud of themselves.  One of the top places I've visited in months!!!  Food to perfection - what more can I say?  If you're in the area, or live hours away...it's worth the trip.  Enjoy!!!!!  We will again this weekend!!!!!

Probably one of the best brunch in sanoma.

The day before, I made reservations for sunday and they had a short line.  We were seating outside on the back patio next to two water fountain, which was very cute!

Had duck confeit with poach eggs was  simply amazing! It always comes with a fresh side salad. After a day of wine tasting... this was very good hang over food.

The omlettes here were pretty good also.

Pricing is reasonable brunch prices.  I highly recommend trying this place when you are in town!

I was excited to eat here as I loved the name. Got there on a Friday around 2, was told there was a 35 minute wait, put name on list, returned, went to bathroom, noted five empty tables, told hostess who told me my table was being set. Waited another twenty minutes, (by that time I could have set a table for twenty for Thanksgiving dinner) then seated in 14 more minutes, then another ten before the owner came to take the order. The food, who knows? too enraged to notice

Sometimes, it's a lot of hype and you end up being $64 poorer for a breakfast for 2, AND you leave the restaurant still hungry.

This is exactly what happened to us today. Checked out the brunch menu on the website, and was pleased to read that they had duck confit hash brown with bacon and poached eggs ($14.95).
Got there and was served a horrid burn tasting coffee, which I sent back. Then the dishes came: well, it was not as I anticipated a plate full of hash with bacon and  soft boiled eggs. Instead, 1/2 of the plate was a green salad (for breakfast, are you kidding me???) and the hash was barely covering the underside of the soft boiled egg. Worst of it, the hash, which was really a soggy meddley of vegetables, did not even come hot! And the bacon: MIA!!! We ordered dessert, because we were still hungry, two louzy profiteroles, described on the menu as being in a puddle of chocolate sauce!!! It was barely a freaking "Z" decoration of chocolate sauce on the plate.

Bad, bad, bad and did I mention overpriced? They can kiss our wallet goodbye!

Spent a long Fourth of July weekend in Sonoma and had a chance to go here for dinner and brunch.  I think that the couple of 1 star reviews here are a little harsh.  My meal used some fresh seasonal ingredients and was well prepared.  For dinner, I believe that I had rabbit, which I only seem to enjoy or be able to find outside of the country, so I was excited to have some in the U.S.  Also the waitress had some great wine suggestions as well and she wrote them down so that we could find them on our own.  The duck confit hash was a delicious way to start the day and was not as heavy as you might be thinking.  Girl and the Fig may be a little pricey, but the service, food, and ambience is worth a try.

Had an absolutely wonderful lunch here.

My dining companion and I shared a blue crab salad, the turkey sandwich, the grilled cheese sandwich, and an excellent bottle of Westwood rose. The sandwiches may seem like pedestrian items, but they were of the highest quality and executed perfectly.

The service was as warm and friendly as it gets (the server's name was Lisa) and it didn't hurt that the weather was perfect and we were seated in the back patio.

Overall, a great experience.

This was an excellent dinner, right on the Square.

I started with the shellfish sausage -- something I'd never heard of before and didn't know you could make sausage with shellfish!   It was good.  It didn't keep it's form very well, but you wouldn't want a thick sausage skin around delicate shellfish.  It was served with shaved fennel and was delicate and tasty.

As an entree, I got the pan roasted black cod and I daresay it was the best roast cod I've ever had in my life.  The skin was so perfectly crispy and flavorful while the fish was soft and flaky.  A truly outstanding dish.

B. got the "Fromage Tower" which the waiter warned him was "a lot of food".  It was.  After I finished my dinner, I stepped in to help with his cheese.  It was all delicious.  A good blend of goat, sheep, cow and hard and soft cheeses. Served with sliced apples, bread, walnuts, fruit compote, a terrine and other delicious items I can no longer remember.

For a $15 corkage fee, we were able to bring our own wine that we'd bought at a vineyard that day.  That actually allows you to save a lot of money on wine.  Do it too!

First off, the service here is fantastic.  If you look up from your meal and glance around, you'll notice the place is just stuffed with staff.  Our waitress was very courteous, had a slight French accent (do ethnic places deliberately hire people with the appropriate accent?), and was very helpful in explaining each of the wines in my wine flight.

We made a reservation (on my iPhone) and asked to be seated inside, and instantly regretted that decision as we walked past the outdoor patio on the way to our table.  We were shown to a table in the corner a tad close to our neighbors, but what I thought would be a cozy location.  Unfortunately, the seating ended up being rather uncomfortable for me -- my chair was located on a slight slant next to a ridge in the floorboards, and hardwood floors had been recently waxed.  The result was I kept on sliding around as I tried to keep myself located in a position that would facilitate eating.  The chairs are a tad on the small side, which over time grew annoying (I'm 6'1").  Interior decor and atmosphere in no way were up to the standard of the exterior; in particular the paintings on the wall seemed out of place and uncomplimentary.

I ordered their three course prix fixe menu, which consisted of fried oyesters, scallops, and a poached pear in a pistachio nut sauce for $35.  The oysters, which consisted of two pieces of deep fried oyster meat, were quite simply not very good.  The three scallops that made up the second course were tasty, but that was really all there was to the dish.  In the middle of the plate was a decorative pile of finely chopped vegetables that were delicious, but these were insufficient to complete the dish and I felt that between the three scallops and the vegetables something was lacking.  Desert was good.

My sister had a soup of chilled, pureed corn that was well made, and she ordered the mussels appetizer and it also was tasty -- but then with enough butter and wine it's really hard to mess that up.

Overall, I was disappointed.  With a price point like this place demands, in particular my prix fixe meal, you can't be hit or miss.  The answer to the question "where on the menu do you put items that aren't quite up to standard" is that you simply don't put them on the menu.

This place was magnificent! We were told that there was outside seating available, and when we indicated that it may be to cold. They turned on a heater in advance for us.

The waitress was very  helpful, and she was patient with us when we did not know what wines to pick. She allowed us to taste several ones until we found something we liked.

The meal was great. I had the chickpea panisse cake that was delicious. One of my friends had the steak which was really good.

Oh - did I mention how lovely their back seating area was? I totally recommend this place.

Went there for a late lunch on a weekend after wine tasting. No reservation, but NO problems getting seated likely because of the time, and the hostess and servers were friendly.

For appetizer, we tried the Works - three cheese selections, cured meats, some fruit, home-made fig cake, and mini-baguette. It's a great sampling of what's available, and sizeable for two.

We had the omelet and fish as entrees. Both were good, but I thought the omelet stood out for the fillings and the greens on the side.

While this is not budget food, the ambiance is nice, food is good, and location in downtown Sonoma is a plus.

Enjoyed lunch on a hot Saturday afternoon after some wine tasting, and after returning to The Girl & The Fig after a four year reprieve, it was as delightful as I had remembered.  Made an OT reservation for 1:15p, was seated inside promptly at a table for two.  They have a brief menu of refreshing and creative cocktails, I enjoyed the Belle Fraise which was a tad more of the muddle cucumber that I would have liked, but still refreshing.

I also find it hard to choose from their menu selections, but we shared a selection of three goat cheeses, a plate which is accompanied by a glazed cherry, cranberry and fig garnish as well as toasted mixed nuts.  I chose the Duck Confit served with fingerling potatoes and a frisee salad....the duck was perfectly cooked and the plate was well balanced.

On previous occasions, we have been seated outside in the back garden patio and I would recommend it to anyone on a warm or cooler day than we had this past weekend.

I really like sitting outside on the patio on a warm summer evening and sipping one of their well made cocktails. The burgers and  string fries are top notch and fairly priced.  Some of the dishes are a bit overpriced but overall I think the food is worth it. Another good thing is that they are open quite late so if you show up before 10:30 you will get served. Good bar, nice setting and the fig hand lotion that they sell is to die for.

Love this place.  Great food, service, & ambience. Eat outdoors if you can.

We ordered the mussels for appy's to share & they were delicous. The broth was so flavorful & great for dipping the included garlic bread in. Our only gripe was that they only gave one big piece of garlic bread when we would have welcomed a 2nd.

I had the sirloin burger w/fried onions & brie cheese -- delicious also, in particular because of the special crunchy'-topped bun they used.  Includes skinny matchstick fries w/aoli sauce for dipping. I was so full that I gave the last few bites of my burger to my friend.

My friend ordered the quiche lorraine, but I didn't hear much enthusiasm about it...maybe because I was busy enjoying my burger.

We were too full for dessert but this place is a "must visit"..and the crowd it attracts seems to be very hip...like it's a place to 'be seen'.

3.7 stars.  I've eaten here several times in the past few years, and on this most recent visit, I enjoyed the food, but felt the portions didn't warrant the prices.  Then again, I don't know where else in the area that you could find this style of food for less money.

We didn't order any entrees, just drinks, starters and dessert:

-the salad of the season (yummy dressing, blah salad)
-three tomato soup (fresh and wonderful tasting)
-grass fed steak tartare (my first time, sorta pleasant)
-cheese and aged sausage (cheese rocked, tasty but skimpy meat)
-cheesecake trifle (everything it should have been and more)

The Lavender Mojito was lovely (hold the mint, I told them, and they did) and my husband liked his Sazerac (rye whiskey, pastis, et al).

We sat on the back patio, which because of the heat of the day had tarp-like coverings overhead.  It was glorious when it finally cooled off midway through dinner and they pulled back "the roof" to reveal a dusky sky and fresh air.

It was a delicious experience, but not satiating or ambiant enough (bring back the provencale fountain!) to warrant the $90 tab (incl. tip), though the gratuitous olives and bread almost make it so.

On a recent weekend trip to Sonoma for my sister's birthday, we were looking for a great restaurant to eat at after a day of wine tasting and relaxing in the pool. I jumped on my Yelp iPhone app to search nearby and The Girl & The Fig came back with consistently good reviews. I called in on a Saturday evening and got reservations for an hour later. The hostess warned me that we might get seated outside and to bright a light jacket.

So we show up, get seated outside and it's absolutely charming! Cute back patio with a fire pit, covered dining area, great heat lamps.. The service itself was a little slow, but for a restaurant like this, I suspect they want you to relax and take your time.

The dinner was amazing. We had seafood sausage, a cheese plate, rabbit roulade, halibut and something else. All were excellent dishes! The dessert was definitely high quality - lemon meringue tart was the best of the three we had. I crave it now.

The next morning, our hotel recommended some Cafe next to Girl & The Fig for breakfast, but when we got there, the line was out the door. I wandered over to Girl & The Fig and saw that there was no wait, so we had brunch! The stuffed french toast was delicious, tuna open faced sandwich was fresh, garlic potato soup was to DIE for.

If I'm ever in Sonoma again, I'll stop by for sure! Love the food.

We had brunch here before a day of wine tasting.  I made reservations, and we were seated immediately upon arrival.  It wasn't terribly crowded when we arrived (12:15pm), but when we left ~1:45pm there was a crowd at the door.

On the positive side, I had a very yummy cocktail of peach puree, peach infused bourbon, and orange juice.  It's breakfast w/ a baby kick. The omelet du jour was quite tasty, albeit not mind blowing.

Now for the bad, I was really excited about this place because they had a charcuterie plate on the menu and I so rarely get to order it (long story).  Anyways, when the plate arrived, we were sorely disappointed.  The selection of charcuterie was rabbit mousse, smoked trout, and a third item which I can't quite remember but it had vegetables mixed into it and was the texture of a rillette but was not a rillette.  The smoked trout was the best thing on the plate to me.  I still don't think that smoked trout belongs on a charcuterie plate, but I was more disappointed in the rest of the plate.  I was really craving just a good pork rillette or anything resembling charcuterie plates I've had before.  To add insult to injury our waiter would just disappear, we had to flag him down to get any service.

Overall, I have to think there are better places to go in Sonoma for brunch.  If you do come here pay attention to what other people are eating, there seems to be quite the disparity in portion sizes based on what dishes you order.

Sunday Brunch

Bellini - good, but not great
Bloody Mary with Pernod - very tasty change to the original
Fritatta - great flavors, wish it was a little warmer, but I was too hungry to send it back. Also could have been a bit bigger of a slice. comes with a side salad which basically took up half the plate since the slice of frittata was quite small.
French Toast - tasty

Would I recommend this place? perhaps if you're in the area - is it out of this world? No. But very quaint place with lots of options on the menu. We made a brunch reservation...probably not necessary if you go right at 10, but then again doesn't hurt either b/c it looked like the place filled up a bit. I think the portions could be a tad bigger because I was hungry about half an hour later, but then again, these are probably how real portion sizes should be.

With so much emphasis on figs it would have been nice to have them serve some fig jam with the bread and butter they give you when you sit down, but i'm sure you could have ordered some if you really wanted it.

All in all I'd go back if I was staying in Sonoma, but don't think I'd make the drive just for the restaurant if I were coming from elsewhere, but would also want to try lunch or dinner before I do brunch again.

Enjoyed a lovely brunch there on Thursday, 9/10/09.  Sat at the bar and Melanie, the bartender was very nice and friendly.  I had the arugula and fig salad and quiche lorraine.  Both of the dishes were lovely and delicious.  The salad was insane and I scarfed the whole thing!  Definitely worth getting.  Quiche was light and fluffy and the crust was *just* crispy enough and was served with frites that were a bit too thin to really dip in the sauce, however they were still yummy.  Would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting the area.

My sister an I ate here a few weeks ago and it was good. I like that on Fridays they serve food until 11pm.
The cheese plate was good, not super impressive, but good for sure, and I was glad the waitress was able to tell us what everything was on it. Pretty nice wine selection so that made us happy. The only issue was that the fish I got was a little dry and bland, but not bad at all.
Also, our table was all the way in the corner and totally smashed in by another table, so when I got up (and seriously I'm like a toothpick) it was a little uncomfortable scooting my butt past the two ladies seated next to us. I think they could be a little bit farther apart and it would have worked better.
All in all, I like this place, I think the bar seems like a fun place to be on a Friday night. Sissy and I will come back to Figgy again soon, I'm sure.

Good food and outdoor patio.
Friendly service and incredible pea soup.

Menu choices were limited in my opinion but they may be the owner's preference.

You people can't be serious.  Please, someone tell us what the hype is all about.  Is it the cheese?

We've been wanting to eat at The Girl & The Fig for a couple years and have we've been hearing rave reviews from everyone we know.

We walked in and the hostess acted like it was an inconvenience that people actually want to eat there.  Oh, and our reservation was for at 9:30pm.

We went to the bar, had a drink, and it was great - the mimosa was better than the strawberry something-or-other.  We didn't order anything to eat the bar, but a couple next to us ordered the grass fed steak tartar and it looked delicious.

We did get sat right at our reservation time.  So, thank you The Girl and The Fig for fulfilling that obligation.  We got to our table and was greeted by our waiter who was consistently late and rude.  When we asked our waiter after an hour where our food was, he couldn't believe we were bothering him.

Bar/Wine:  Corkage was $15, and their wine list looks a little expensive but amazing.  We loved the bar and the bartenders.

Appetizers:  A salad that was so boring we don't even remember it, Cold cucumber soup - not good but it's cold soup.  Does anyone really like cold soup?

Entrees:  Wild Flounder - very good, the highlight of the meal.  Good balance with the potato puree, spinach and caper sauce.  Roasted half chicken - not good.  The watercress salad on top was SO bitter.

Location:  Conveniently located right in the middle of downtown Sonoma.  Great place to do some afternoon shopping followed by drinks and dinner.  Check out the Laughing Queen store.  That place cracks us up.

Clientèle:  Not pretentious foodies, however there were a few people that looked like they wanted to be.  Ahh, Sonoma...we love you.  We really do.
