This place is beyond amazing. My best friend and I often do the walk around the lake before heading into this paradise of pastries. The muffins! The muffin loaves! And yes, the gingerbread cookies. The coffee cake muffin loaf is delectable. Just get yourself here for a taste of heaven.

I'm writing this review in real time as I eat my first gingerbread muffin.

-It's just sitting here on my desk, looking beautiful.  Never have I seen such food beauty.  It's just looking at me.  It can see me.  It can see THROUGH me.

-Oh god, the first bite was amazing.  I'm chewing it right now.  The powdered sugar is the first thing I taste, followed by the mouth feel of the rich soft gingerbread... and yes.  Good heavens yes, that's cream cheese icing INSIDE the muffin.

-I'm now on the website as I'm eating my second and third bites.  Everything here looks amazing.  I need more of this.  Now.

-OH NO!  I dropped a bit of the icing on my desk!  No one will know if I lick icing directly off the corner of my workspace.  No one will know...

-...Ok, no one saw me.  What a thrill.

-I think I'm getting emotional now that I'm halfway done.  What will happen when I finish?

-I have flipped the muffin over and am now eating the bottom.  These folks clearly know the top is where its at, since most of the weight is distributed towards the overflowing top.  But the bottom is still good.  Flavorful and rich.

-These people are going to cater my wedding.  Now, to find a bride.

-That was the last bite.  I'm chewing it as I type this.  What a journey it was.  What an adventure.  The sweetness of every bite was so perfect.  Everything was satisfying.  There is no wrong way to eat this muffin.

-I don't want to eat the rest of my lunch.  It's like not wanting to wash your hand after it shakes Tom Brady's or something.  This was the perfect muffin.  I will cherish it always.

This is an Insiders Perspective:

Where do I start-  How about with the Man that owns the place. On the first day that I was there he was SCREAMING at this young girl- (probably 16 years old) She was crying and saying that she thought that it would be okay to put the 1 hot muffin in a bag in stead of a box. WTH.. Was that necessary to do that in front of all the customers, and that poor girl!

Next, day I used the Employee Bathroom to find Poop on the floor. Yes a Swirly pile of Poop. I contacted the Manager and she said " they are doing it again" . Again? And who are "they". I found out quickly when she went to the BAKERS in the back. She told me that they are from another Country and that using the facilities isn't something they are accustomed to doing. WHAT? Where are they from that they don't have a Toilet!  And if they are not using the toilet you KNOW that they aren't washing their hands- YUCK!

The third Day, and My final day I might add... I entered the place to find the workers assembling the fruit muffins. Upon Closer inspection of the fruit I noticed Worms- little guys that you would find on fruit- I mentioned it to the Owner and asked what he does about that. He said " We pick them out"  Then I ask him what he Cleans the Fruit with After and he stated " nothing- if we wash the berries the water will run into the batter." Okay- I had seen and Heard enough- I left that day and will not go back.

I wish that I was making this up because I Really liked their muffins, but alas I am not.  :(

You know you're addicted to yelp when there are two locations of Gingerbread Construction and you've already been to the one that's closer to where you're staying.  You go the extra few miles because it will give you just one more review.  I'm coming up on a milestone 500 reviews, so can you blame me?!

I was craving the delectable strawberry shortcake muffin with the soft yellow cake, subtly-sweet homemade whipped cream and strawberries and it was every bit as wonderful as the last time.  I brought 3 Gingerbread virgins with me and everyone had a big grin of satisfaction after polishing off every last bit of their muffin.

I haven't been to many muffin places besides Dunkin Donuts, so I figured this trip would be an interesting experience, and it was!  The twists that they put on their muffins was great and I am kind of jealous I didn't think of it first.  This place was fairly small inside, but its anything you would expect from a bakery.  There was a nice display of the food except I wish they had the names of the muffins on display with the actual muffins.  We were a little confused on what was what.

The muffins were definitely the best muffins I have had, due to their creativity.  The Boston Creme was pretty good.  The chocolate on top was sweet, but not too sweet.  I wish there was a little more creme inside, but overall it was good.  The strawberry shortcake was the best muffin i had.  The actual muffin was pretty tasty and the cream and strawberrys added a refreshing touch.  The chocolate creme was also decent.  Again the cake of the muffin was good.  I like how they put some powdered sugar on there.  It worked well with the cake.  The cream inside was a bit too much like frosting and not creamy enough.  Finally, the lemon poppy seed muffin had delicious lemon inside the muffin and again was sprinkled with some powdered sugar.

Overall, I thought this place was great and I commend them for their creative twists they put on muffins.

Where can you spend $8.00 and impress four of your co-workers with your exquisite taste?

The Gingerbread Construction Company, that's where.

Seriously; if you are the muffin man once a month, you'll make a lot of friends.  I know I have.  I dont' know why they call them muffins.  I mean, I guess they're shaped like muffins.  Probably made in a muffin tin.  They have that muffin wrapper on the bottom.  That's where the similarities end.  Otis Spunkmeyer ain't got nothin' on these fantabulous culinary confections.  You can't go wrong  with anything here.

Try it!

These are the best muffins in the world! Really, there are none better. They are more like cupcakes, that's a good thing...........my favorite is the signature gingerbread with cream cheese frosting, the strawberry shortcake with real strawberries & whipped cream is also yummy.

You know the new $3 gourmet cupcake thing where the cupcake is the size of a nickel?  Well, the muffins here are half the price, twice the size, and better than anything resembling a cupcake that I've ever had.

I first discovered this place on the way up to skiing one morning.  Right off of the highway and open at 6AM, their coffee was fresh and I instantly fell in love with their muffins.  Truth be told, the muffins I go for are more like cupcakes with a muffin top than normal muffins.  (See photos: http://www.gingerbread...)  They have normal muffins without any cream, but once you see the creamed ones, you'll understand.  The whipped cream is lighter and less sweet than cupcake frosting.

I've introduced various friends to these and have brought them over to dinner parties, where they've always been devoured.  Yummy after dinner muffins!

My fiance bought me a gingerbread house for Valentine's Day from The Gingerbread Construction Co and it was adorable!  They make them seasonally for Christmas, Valentine's Day, Halloween, etc.  The next time I'm in Wakefield, I'll have to stop by and try all the pastries that everyone raves about.  :-)

AWESOME muffins - they are actually more like a dessert.  We just moved to the area and buy these for every time someone is coming over for their first visit..  they've been a huge hit every time.  My favorite is def. the strawberry shortcake muffin - it's so light and there are real pieces of strawberry (-:  Little piece of Summery goodness anytime!

I hate myself for not noticing this place earlier. I hate myself for not giving gingerbread a chance. The word "gingerbread" would strike fear in me. Flashbacks of the over-spiced, hard-as-a-rock that it chipped my tooth piece flashed through my mind. It all changed that fateful Christmas when Dina brought over their muffins. It was the chocolate dreme. I was confused, is it gingerbread or is a muffin? She cut me half and for then one, I was hooked. Then we moved to Melrose and I decided to show my significant other the lake in Wakefield that I use to walk around. As we're walking, what do I see at the end? Lo and behold! The Gingerbread Construction Company! Ever since, for every special occasion or even just because it's Saturday, I make a visit to the Construction Co. I'm hooked and thank you for forever changing my mind about gingerbread. Now instead of flashbacks of chipped tooth, I have drool-filled dreams about chocolate dreme's and their strawberry shortcake.

These muffins rock!!!! around the clock!!!!

They are huge, and delicious and so many to choose from. The only thing I wish the management would do would be to label the display so you know which muffins are which and don't have to ask.

Other than that the staff is friendly and the muffisn rock .

Check out the Winchester location as well on Washington St.

I just don't really like the muffins. I know that leaves me in a group with few people, but it's true. My co-workers love them, and pick them up on at least a monthly basis, but I just don't like them.

Don't get me wrong, I eat them, but the chocolate chip muffin is dry. I don't like lemon goop on the top half of a lemon-poppy seed muffin and sometimes you just don't want frosting at 9am.
I wish they were good, because I know I'll continue to eat them. 'Sigh.'

My favorite guilty pleasure.  Chocolate Dreme Muffin.  Try it.

The coffee is great too and if you go to the Winchester store, they'll make you a hot chocolate you won't get anywhere else.

Staff is helpful and very knowledgable and move quick to accomodate long lines on weekend mornings.

I've been to this location twice now and have received good (not fabulous) service on both occasions. The muffins are delicious and their frozen drinks (not quite a smoothie), are very refreshing in the warmer months. It is a good thing that lake Quannapowitt sits between me and this place because I could eat my weight in their muffins without thinking about it!

Every time I've brought these out-of-this-world muffins to meetings or clients, they're the biggest hit ever.  If you're in sales, you will win clients for LIFE by simply seducing them with these devilish treats.  As for me, when I stop at the shop in Wakefield to buy muffins for myself, I always buy two: chocolate dream and their signature gingerbread.  Yum!  Usually as a reward after I've run the lake, of course.

I spent about 4 hours here trying to fix their phone line ( I work for Verizon) last week and after about the 3rd hour I was offered a drink. The manager, a very nice woman, gave me an iced coffee. Now, I'm not a big coffee drinker, but I have had my share of coffees in the past so I would say I'm a decent judge of quality. This iced coffee was the most delicious one ever. Since then, I've been back 4 times already. Every one has been just as good as the first one, and that's what's so great about it. Dunkin Donuts is always so inconsistent. One iced coffee would be good, then the next one you got would taste all burnt and weird. I think it's why I jumped off the coffee bandwagon long ago. Well, Gingerbread Construction may have just picked me up and put me back on the bandwagon. I'm hooked. Not to mention their muffins are full desserts.

Holy crap.. talk about good muffins and baked pretty little things. My Christmas in Boston was all good after a couple of tastings from this place. I seriously am not one to have the sugary tooth but these were extremely dessert/snackable worthy.
Till now, I've always thought Roy Rogers' cornbread+whip cream+artificial strawberry topping was the best... Gingerbread's Strawberry Shortcake really blew my mind.
You know the top of the muffins that everyone prefers over the spiraled bottom? Well they actually cut a little layer off and fill it with some good stuff to tease your taste buds...then put the top back on! SO GOOD.
The carrot cake was superb also. It wasn't over powering with some nutmeg crazy spice so that you can't taste anything... it's quite delicious. Not too sweet either.
The name of this 'company' throws you off but you should definitely stay on track to get to this place.

HOly MUFFIN!!!! I am totally hooked to this place.  They have the most delicious muffins ever.  My fav is the gingerbread muffin.  This delectable little treat has part of the muffin top cut off and it is filled with tasty cream cheese frosting.  It is then topped with powdered sugar.  When I eat these, which isn't too often (high in fat im sure), I savor eat itty bitty morsel.  The selection is wonderful from carrot to cranberry walnut.  I hear they have great coffee as well.  Staff was friendly and the establishment was spotless....so clean you could literally eat off of the floor.  The only downfall is that you don't want to walk out of the door.  Easy access off of the highway.  Maybe a bit more parking would help but overall a wonderful find.

If it's not too far out of your way, stop in and buy 4/8/12 and make your office mates smile. Works every time for me.

The gingerbread muffins are by far the standout (imho), but the carrot cake are pretty good too. What am I saying, they're all tasty! Just note that the lemon poppyseed always seems to be kicking around until lunch time. ;-)

You think you've had muffins?  Not bloody likely.  You haven't lived until you've tried the orgiastic offerings at Gingerbread Construction Company.

These muffins are almost more like cake.  Forget all the dry, crumbly, bland breakfast muffins you've had before.  Many of these are scooped out, filled with yummy creams or puddings or fruit and topped with icing or sugar or chocolate or more fruit and cream.

Chocolate Raspberry  -  fresh hand-picked raspberries and topped with whipped creme and chocolate flakes, then drizzled with chocolate

Boston Kreme  -  hand-filled with Bavarian Kreme and finished off with homemade chocolate creme icing

Lemon Poppy Seed  -  filled while hot with a zesty lemon filling and sprinkled with powdered sugar

Strawberry Shortcake  -  Hand cut fresh strawberries and a pile of whipped creme fill the inside of this delicious yellow cake muffin

Carrot  - Full of fresh peeled and shredded carrots, walnuts, raisins, coconut, and pineapple then topped off with our special cream cheese icing

And these are just a few of the eclectic flavors they offer.  Sure, they have the traditional corn, blueberry, oat bran, and banana walnut, but their take on your old favorites will make you an instant fan.  Guaranteed.  Diabetics be warned!!

Update: The Winchester location has proven itself to be fresher and with a more professional staff than the Wakefield location.  The last time I went to Wakefield I got there at 7:15 AM and the teenaged girls behind the counter were already serving muffins that were pretty dried-out.  Uncool!

Haven't been to this Wakefield location, but I go to the Winchester one. It's like walking into candyland. To one side of the wall, there are pre-made gingerbread houses you can purchase...i assume they're great for gifts. Right across the front...is a long stretch of glass...totally filled with muffins...some stuffed with fruit, some stuffed with creme. How can you resist a strawberry shortcake muffin, or a chocolate lover's muffin (filled with chocolate creme, of course). There are also cookies by the pound available....also very good. Stop by this place at least once....you'll be hooked for sure.

Very unique little muffin shop, also the 2nd closest supplier of Orangina to my office building.

The muffins are extremely sweet and heavy, plan to buy a few and share them.  My family often quarters them up as one is often too much, plus who wants to miss out on trying the strawberry shortcake and the carrot cake muffins?

Shop early as they are not open in the evenings.

My Friend brought these muffins to my New Year's brunch.  I assumed they were just your ordinary muffins, but Oh was I wrong!  The muffins from this place are out of this world.  They have a selection of delicious muffins like boston creme, carrot cake, chocolate with whipcream and many other flavors I can't even describe.  Just get there and give it a try.   I think this is a good Zipcar trip.
