Preface: I'm not primarily a beer drinker, and beer variety is the specialty of The Ginger Man. Yet, I am in love with this place.
We arrived early--which is key to finding a bench/stool/lounge chair --which seriously improves the experience.
Our server, though busy, suggested a few things he thought I would enjoy, and he was right! That kind of knowledge is worth the slightly higher prices here.
Lastly, the food is wonderful. The guiness stew consists of chunks of beef soaking in a rich and fatty beef broth--that might sound awful, but it is a wonderful thing on a cold night with a warm baguette. The chips are home made, and everything seems to suit the beer, which is the star. Oh, and warm pretzels!
Also, in context, a few drinks and dinner, plus pretzel and tip were less expensive-and more enjoyable--than some mid-priced sit down restaurants.
A million beer choices.
Cool old-world atmosphere.
Comfy couches (in the back...if you can grab one).
Super crowded after work.
Hot pretzels!
Ever since I moved to NY, I was dying to try this place. It took me a year to finally get there. It was everything I had hoped for - so many beers to try. I grabbed a table and waited for my friend while I sipped on their house beer, which was delicious.
My friend came and we drank a few beers and had so much fun chatting at the people at the table next to us against the wall. My friend and I were really broke so we split a hot dog covered in cheese and bacon. BONUS - side of tator tots instead of plain old fries! What a great idea!!
I am taking off a star because I wish it was a little cheaper but the beers are good and worth the money.
Big fan of Ginger Man. Great beer list. Sadly they carry Bud and Bud light for the lame people that real beer drinkers bring with them when they are sick of sports bars. The bartenders are knowledgeable of the beers and styles which is hard to find. Like the one in Greenwich as well - it is a bit more cosy. Wish I had one in my neighborhood.
After a rehearsal dinner at The Cornell Club, a large group of us ended up meandering over to this place. I must say that I was impressed with it.
As a Bay Area girl, I have a laundry list of San Francisco establishments that I avoid because I find the crowds pretentious and obnoxious. *coughs coughs* Marina District. And, because I am naive of most of New York (which is how I ended up booking a cheap hotel in a ghetto neighborhood in Queens), I was worried that I would find similar crowds at this place. I am happy to say that I was wrong. While it gets quite packed rather quickly, I am pleased to report that I saw no popped collars. Lots of over-sized handbags that cost my month's paycheck...but that's all over NYC. I liked this crowd very much. I even scored a date for the following afternoon.
They had very efficient wait staff working the floor because it is nearly impossible to actually get the bar staff to wait on you...or to even elbow your way to the bar for that matter. As such, the curly-haired fellow took good care of me.
I had Manhattans in Manhattan! Look http://static4.px.yelp... (The bar is not really that dark. iPhones can't do flash photography. Let's be patient. They only just recently started being able to text photos.) And the curly-haired fellow somehow knew exactly what I wanted. I ordered a Manhattan and he's all, "With Maker's Mark?" And I was like, "Yeah, actually. That's exactly what I wanted." Sweet!
Is this a New York thing? All the Manhattans that I've had (in CA) come in martini glasses. I've never had them on the rocks before. That was very dangerous for me because it disguises their strength. I....um....had a bit of a rough taxi ride home....and a rougher morning....
Oh yeah, and if you actually like beer (which I do not), you'll be impressed with this place.
If you're looking for a big selection of beer - then go to the Ginger Man. I tried a bunch of different types, even a chocolate beer - very interesting.
Good atmosphere, okay menu but for drinks, this place is a home run!
The bar has a great beer selection, including some German beers that are harder to come across in the States (Schneider Aventinus, more than one Kölsch) and a rather thorough stock of Québécois bottles. The food is also good - I would recommend the tater tots, but while they are at times excellent, they have turned up bland on at least one occasion.
This used to be my go-to bar for beer in the neighborhood, but since discovering Rattle 'n' Hum three blocks away, I only stop by occasionally. The main reason for this is the atmosphere. The Ginger Man fills up quickly every day of the week, making it hard to find a seat for more than a person or two. And the crowd isn't the best: this is Murray Hill, after all, and the bar apparently suits members of that demographic just fine.
So I recommend the Ginger Man, if only tentatively.
I ventured outside of my Brooklyn-lower Manhattan bubble last night up to Murray Hill (it took me a minute to remember that I knew where that was) to The Ginger Man. I read (thanks Yelpers) about the killer beer selection and felt like I was well-prepped when I got there. It was packed to the gills and a little tough to get the attention of the bartender, but everyone seemed to be calm enough to make room for the hordes as they continues to squeeze in. I was told, though didn't see for myself, that there was a lounge with a lot more space to the back of the bar, but I was content to stay near the teeming bar area.
I had two delicious and strong Ginger Man Ales. It was a belgian-style beer with ginger in it-- made it spicy and tasty. I was in trouble.
I cannot imagine that I would come back here any time soon, since I am never, ever in this neighborhood. Also, I always sort of assume that the house beer is going to be the cheapest option-- this may be true at The Ginger Man, but if that's so, I'm dismayed. I don't want to pay $6.50 for a pint, I just don't.
Exceptional selection of beer, including cask ales. The variety of domestic craft and imported offerings were chosen well, and made for easy pairing with the menu. This has a more adult atmosphere - a place for people who are serious about their beer. Nice set of couches in the back area too. Prices not too bad for Manhattan.
My experience at the Ginger Man was cruising right along a 4-star kind of route until the end of the night. The bartender was attentive and when I asked her to surprise us, she delivered the delightful Anderson Valley Amber, and it was everything good she said it would be.
In fact, things were going so well, that our party of three sat down and settled in. We all work full-time, and the following day was a work day, but we were quite enjoying each other's company and the beer and the atmosphere, and soon we were among the last people in the bar, though let me note that closing time was still 1.5 hours away.
We were thick in conversation, and our glasses soon were emptied, and cognizant of having to be bright-eyed and bushy tailed the next day, we twice politely declined when the server asked if we'd like another round.
Now I understand that we were loitering at this point. But we were also happy campers and likely to be happy repeat customers. And had the server, in her third approach to our table, kindly said, "Hey guys, if you're going to stick around would you mind ordering another round?" or some other direct statement, we would have kindly obliged or kindly left.
But when without a word she started spraying down our table with cleaner, we took our cue, and I took my future business right out the door.
Come on, we were wearing our work clothes, and the spray was hitting us!! Thank god it didn't leave bleach spots on our slacks. I'm not sure what warranted this passive aggressive shooing. It wasn't like it was closing time and we were refusing to budge. Though heavily immersed in conversation and no longer drinking, we would have taken well to a polite, direct request to be better customers, which indeed I would be had the Ginger Man had better closing time etiquette.
Everyone raves about their selection, but what impresses me the most about The Gingerman is how well they maintain their beers on draught.
I estimate I've downed 150-200 pints and goblets here over the years and not once have I ever been served a beer that was in anything other than top condition. Once I had a taste of a beer that at first seemed like it was a bit off, which really surprised me since it was a German seasonal. After taking a second sip I realized I thought the brew just really, really sucked.
That's why it pays to go for a taste of a style you never tried before,so you don't blow $7-$8 or more on some beer that just isn't for you. Gingerman does have a sign stating they'll charge you for any beer the bartenders determine is in good condition and I can imagine why they need to put that up. Surely from time to time someone who's never even tried a Sam Adams before will go and order a Belgian Quadrupel and demand a refund when it doesn't taste just like Miller Lite.
Asking for a sample might not be a stellar idea during the extremely busy peak hours, so perhaps it's best to stick with something you know and love then.
Coming for a late lunch works out well if you have time to sneak away from your desk, except for the fact that there's not much on the menu worth ordering. A couple of the sandwiches have been underwhelming. I'm not a fan of the Pullman bread they serve and the meats left me facing the conundrum that the food wasn't that good and the portion too small. I'm leery of trying anything else from that section of the menu, but I'm sure at some point I'll get bored with my usual order.
Generally I go with the bratwurst platter; the sausage is tasty, the sauerkraut and potato salad fine, and the mustard has a decent kick, though I believe they just use some product of Maille's.
During a recent early-week visit around supper time I acted like a wild man and ordered the Cobb salad. According to their menu this is prepared with chicken breast, bacon, avocado, egg, bleu cheese crumbles and shallot vinaigrette.
As I am not a fan of blue cheese, I asked for that to be omitted and was happy to see that missing when my salad arrived. I wasn't thrilled in regards to the absence of avocado. Now I realize leaving out the avocado from a Cobb salad is not quite the transgression as would be forgetting the avocado in a serving of guacamole. Still, avocado is a rather vital ingredient in what makes a Cobb salad a Cobb salad.
The amiable bartender explained to me that even though my Cobb salad was lacking in avocado, that didn't mean Gingerman had none on the premises. She ensured me that the kitchen did in fact have avocado, only it wasn't ripe enough to be served.
Now I may be out of bounds here, but having avocado doesn't really do me a whole lot of good if it can't actually be included in a dish which requires avocado. And given how much a spoonful-sized side of guacamole goes for in this city, Gingerman could at least shave a couple bucks off the price of the Cobb salad when their avocado is unripe.
But then you don't go to the Gingerman for the Cobb salad, so I suppose I shouldn't set my expectations in that area so high. Given that it is the best beer bar in the city, and not known for its food, the only thing dumber than ordering the Cobb salad would be to carry on about it for five paragraphs in a review of the place.
Errrrrr. Ummmm. Oops!
The bartender was kind enough to ask if there was anything she could do to make it up to me and I probably could have ordered any beer I wanted on the house, even the Belgian Quadrupel; and I can't believe I'm actually going to write this, but:
I just didn't want another beer.
Phew!
I was worried the earth might stop spinning after that pronouncement.
When I used to live in Murray Hill years ago, some Sunday afternoons I would walk in with a book, order a pint of one of Gingerman's finest ales, throw a couple of bucks into the jukebox, and play all the longest selections by John Coltrane and Miles Davis; Charlie Parker and Theolonius Monk. I would relish having that big back room, which must be eight times the size of my old apartment, all to myself.
On occasion, some people would have the gall to join me back there, taking a seat on one the sofas and breaking my sweet solitude. When that happened, I always wanted to start raving like a lunatic off his medications, or perhaps just let out a big fart, in the hope I could drive them away.
But I never did.
Because I'm far too much of a gentleman for that.
At least in my better moments I am.
Ginger Man is a beer lover's paradise offering up a vast selection of various brews from all over the world.
Not only do they stock the popular brands but they also have some of the more obscure and you're more than likely to discover a new favorite here. For those that don't drink beer, they also have a solid selection of various liquor for every taste bud.
Given it's location and great selection you'll often find this place packed right after work hours with it constantly buzzing with folks all the way till closing. The bar area can become a bit cramped and I'd highly recommend you try to get some seating away from the walk way, unless you enjoy constantly getting bumped and potential spills on your back.
Staff including bouncers are all very friendly and the dark rich atmosphere make it a very low key laid back lounge to drink the night away.
Ok, so the place has an incredible selection of beers. It has massive amounts of space. And it is generally low-key. However, far and away the best thing about this place is that they have Bob Dylan's Time Out Of Mind on the jukebox. My favorite thing to do at this place is to grab a few drinks, and pick the last song on Dylan's album, Highlands, a 13 minute track. Nothing like 13 minutes of Dylan storytelling to let the late night hours drift away.
But in all seriousness, you DO have to get here early because it gets crowded quick, and this is a place to bring friends to chat. This is not a place to try to meet strangers at the bar. Despite being in Murray Hill, the jukebox makes it all worth it.
Alright, You were def great tonight. Though I just got home and I'm pretty much done, I feel like I need to tell you this.
Even though I was pretty much done even before I went inside, you welcomed me with open arms. Alot of people were inside of you already, but still you had enough space for me and my pals.
Even though I had to pee pretty bad, you were open to my uncontrollable bladder. The bathroom was clean and didn't have any lines; only problem was a broken towel dispenser...but it was nothing my drunk self couldn't ignore.
Even though my half-drunk friend broke a glass, your server (which I unfortunately forgot her name) was cool about it and didn't give us any crap. For that, I definitely love you.
Oh Ginger Man, your freakin' awesome liqour list is beyond my comprehension that I would've ordered every item on the menu if I wasn't already done. Good wine list, scotch list, tequila list, etc. list....and by golly, a beer selection that spans the entire world (almost), from belgium to germany, from across the sea to our own NYC home brews, I LOVVE IT. Great and fast staff had the refills on time. I love it and I love you Ginger Man! I am sure to visit you again!
A warm and personable pub, the Ginger Man is a nice little place in Murray Hill. I used to work near the Ginger Man, and although that was a while back, I was able to gather some nice memories of this little place.
I went here for the first time with members of my office for a business lunch, and came back afterwards for more casual lunches. I actually took my dad here for lunch when he came into the city for the day. He ordered the Guinness stew, which I am told is very good, while my entrees of choice at the Ginger Man tended to either the maple glazed turkey and brie or the fresh mozzarella sandwiches. I've seen people tackle the Ploughman's Lunch here, which is no small feat.
All in all, the Ginger Man is a really nice, casual pub of the sort that you don't often see in NYC. It has a low-key, British pub type of atmosphere, and it comes complete with framed Guinness posters all over the place. And who doesn't love the little lamps scattered across the length of the bar?
Worthy of note: I've only been to the Ginger Man around lunchtime. I've never visited in the evening, when it is apparently massively crowded. Therefore, my experience and my review should be weighed differently than that of someone who has had to elbow their way through a crowd in order to get to the bar at the Ginger Man.
Great selection of beer, but you gotta get in here on the earlier side. Cause it gets uncomfortably packed, fast. But if you can get a couch in the back locked down for a bit, you are set.
Service was great, despite the fact that it was getting more and more crowded. Our waitress was at the ready as soon as my glass was empty. I'll definitely come here again.
As I judge beercentric bars, I usually look at what they stock their taps/fridges with, determine how good the bartenders are at pretending they know something about beer, and if the decor/ambiance makes me want to pound 2 or 10 drinks. Needless to say, I had a good experience at The Ginger Man.
The had Reissdorf Koelsch (in bottles unfortunately) available, which always puts me in a good mood (German Koelsches, not "Koelsch Style nonsense), and my subsequent choices just got better and better. My buddy ordered up a $30 750ml bottle of beer, a whiskey cask brewed porter, which the bartender elected to inform us was "one of 6 bottles he gets all year" and wouldn't let us have the 6th as he wanted it. He was even good enough to "try" the bottle we bought. He did know his trade though, so kudos.
Our other choices included Mead (stay away...), and multiple other draughts.
Ambiance-wise, the dim lighting, and taps that lined the back of the bar added evne more to the atmosphere. Good noise level, and ample room. Not great, but not shabby either.
All in all, I would come back here any time. Amazing beer selection, good ambiance, intelligent staff, and they have a stranglehold on midtown beer joints (outside of the next door sister bar). Enjoy.
Excellent beer selection. Very good service. Come here for drinks after work and to socialize... not to chill and watch games. Not sure if there's even a TV in here. Food is good, too.
I first drank at this place exactly one week before leaving NYC for Seattle after living in NY for 11 years... Why have I not found this place earlier damnit???
The best selection of beers (rare and popular) in NYC. Did not have any food since I wanted to save more space for beer (can't remember, but I think i payed for that later). Will most definitely be back there when I'm back in NY
This place has one of the best beer selections I've seen in NYC. The waitress was knowledgeable about beers and was fast to bring my beer - but then disappeared. The bar wasn't even that crowded at this point (around 10pm on a Wednesday). Generally, I'd describe the clientele as preppy and the after-work crowd. I will definitely come again but probably not during a peak time in order to enjoy more of the ambiance. What I appreciated was that we didn't feel rushed out; one of the people in our group had been there for 5 hours!
OH MY HECK!!! This place has left an impression on me that no where else outside of San Francisco has. I had so much good and unique beer here. I discovered GooseIsland's Bourbon County Stout here as well as a very tasty stout made in (believe it or not) Sri Lanka called "Lion". The main bartender there told me he's had about 1500 beers. It inspired me to make myself count my own beer and make a beer site: http://web.me.com/wcyw... (the site's not complete yet)
This place is equivalent to SF's Monk's Kettle, but bigger.
One problem is that it get maaaaaad crowded. I don't know when's the best time since I don't live there, but it seems week nights get really packed because of all the yuppies go straight there before they head home. So quite possibly it's better on the weekends, but it really depends.
***UPDATE***
One of the bartenders (some British guy) was being a complete asshole to my Brit friend for absolutely no reason. My friend brought it up to the waitress that was working there and they brought a very nice beer as an apology, which was a good move on their part.
Ginger man has a bad ass selection of beers on tap so, if you're a beer drinker, you should definitely check it out at least once. The bartenders also know their stuff and will gladly help you pick you drink of choice. If you still can't make up your mind, they offer $11 flights which gives you four small sampler glasses of any of their tap or cask beers. This isn't a crazy awesome deal but I think it's worth the money. Another thing, they have some pretty decent food deals. There's this 'Ginger Man' dog on the menu, which is a hot dog with a strip of bacon and cheddar cheese. You get the dog and a side of chips for $5, which is a steal in my opinion. They have several other dog options, all for $5. So, let me break this down for you...You can get a yummy craft beer, a cheesy bacon hot dog and some potato chips for like $12-13 with tip. Sold!!
Went in twice on a recent visit.
One of the best beer selections I have ever seen and I've been to both Toronado's (I live near the San Diego one) and a knowledgeable bar staff. The latter is the most important, of course. They had a lot of things I had not tried that are brewed on the east coast, so I thought it would be a good idea to check some of those out, but get impressions, first.
All were right on.
Also, they had some killer California beers that I'VE not even seen on tap here from Bear Republic and others. She said it was due to beer week. Still, it was a nice surprise.
I'm still a west coast ale person, but I liked being able to get a taste of more "local" things while on the other side.
On both visits, it was busy in there, right at capacity at the bar, and most tables taken, but service was quick and friendly.
It's in midtown, so you'll get a lot of suits and ties in there, but I tried not to stare.. Guess that's better than spray on tan d-bags!
Just hung out here for two hours and had a blast! Great music, ambiance, and people. The bartender lady was awesome and friendly! Check it out.
I am normally not a beer drinker but I love the place. Not just because I use to live a block away but because if its great selection of beers and friendly atomesphere.
Bardenters were very helpful and fast which is always a plus. And you can always find groups of interesting people having great conversations through out the bar. I thought I would never say this but if there is one place a girl can fancy meeting a decent guy and having a good conversation it's probably this place :)
Great backroom for group gatherings and plenty of seating areas by the bar. If you love something so much you can always get a Gingerman jug and refill it everytime you stop by!
Props for the high ceilings too!
It's very difficult not to like the Ginger Man. I mean, there's a wall of beer taps. A WALL! Yeah, it's insane. In the front there are long tables, so it's pretty easy to meet new people or get a large group of people there and all sitting together, and then in the back is couches and more intimate settings.
I don't know if there is a bad night there from Wed-Sat. If there is, feel free to let me know. Every time I've been there it's been pretty packed, but a good packed, not really uncomfortable. It goes pretty hard until 2am or so, then dies down a little.
If you're looking for an absolutely insane beer selection (Lindeman's Framboise on tap..yeah..on tap), then go here. Tell them Billy sent you..I don't know who Billy is..nor would I say this..but you should just so I can laugh.
I love beer bars and you'll find plenty of great beers here. But this place doesn't stand out like some of its competition.
I mean, I'm a fan, there's no doubt about it. There's no need to explain why.
But seriously, work on the service, Ginger Man!
You could make more money that way.
Just think about it.
If you're a beer drinker, then The Ginger Man is a great place to try a few really weird ones and enjoy the fact that, well, you like beer. Because otherwise you may as well not bother, unless you enjoy a predominantly wood/1850's saloon feel. It also has this nasty amber light to it - rell
I disagree that the place is well organized - much of the seating is cramped if you're there with more than three people, and good lord do I despise those side-sofa type things.
The food is actually good and well-priced, along with the beers. I just feel despondent any time I drink there.
I'd been here before and it was great, so this review is only for the past time.
My friends were in town for the weekend and we were looking for a decent pub-like place for lunch. I suggested the Gingerman, but two girls weren't drinking, so I'll admit, going to a place known for beer was already a stretch.
However... the waitress was awful. She brought water for half the table, no ice, no lemon for one girl as requested. The food was kind of cold and once it was down on the table the waitress was no where to be found. Actually, she was sitting at the bar, chatting with her friend who had come in. We tried flagging her down after 30 minutes or so, finally giving up and going to the bar for refills and napkins.
I do understand that it was a slow Saturday afternoon, and I do realize that with our 5 person party the waitress was guaranteed an 18% tip per the restaurants guidelines, but she didn't have to flat out ignore us the whole time.
I was so embarrassed that I brought my friends there I ended up paying for everyone. I won't be going back to the Gingerman, and neither will any of my friends.
I love this place b/c it has little bit of everything for lounging. I used to hang out there more often when only thing I drink was beers. The 20+ (?)beer taps lined up at the bar wall. The open space feel with high ceiling. The front, it looks more like wine bar (since it looks clean cut with dark lights). The back, you have some sofas and dim lamps for cozy intimate sit down and converstions. In the middle, there are dart boards to play and some TVs for sports events. So much things to do there - as I said little bit of everything.
The beers are very fresh and they let you try different beers at the bar until you find something right for you. A lot of imported beer selections and dark beers that I like. Never disappointed.
I love the cheese and fruit platter from there. So yummy and good deal for the size. It goes down well with beers, too! Usually order to sit in the back with bunch of friends.
The catch phrase in the middle of the place gives some thought everytime I go there. i am not going to spoil.. See for yourself.
Highly recomended.
For the beer, 5 stars and still my favourite place in the city, although new pretenders are catching up fast. Other places are perhaps as good for the tap selections, but once you dive into the bottle list here - with the help of the super-informed staff - you realise this place is still the daddy.
It's perfect on a Sunday evening when relatively quiet and you can take your time chatting about what's new, trying tasters and chilling out.
The food is average but that's ok, I'm not taking a star off for something that's not the focus.
The star gets removed for the place being a victim of it's own popularity. I will not set foot in there on a Thursday - it's impossible to find a place to stand let alone get served. The annoying thing is that more often than not, the people crowding me out are after-workers drinking generic, mass-produced lagers.
The other gripe is that it does feel under-staffed at all times. There have been plenty of times when we know it'll be quicker to get up, walk 3 blocks to Rattle N Hum and order a pint there rather than wait for the waitress' attention. So that's what we do.
These issues aside, Ginger Man will always be on my favourites list and a regular haunt.
I'm not sure why I feel so lukewarm about a spacious bar with so many beers on tap. I just do.
Ginger Man has the ambience of a sultry lounge and a beer selection similar to the Yardhouse, for all you West Coasters! The lighting is sexy, the waitresses were attentive, and if I worked closeby, I'd be here often!
Tried the beer flight (sample of 4 different types). They don't serve flights between the hours of 6pm and 10pm...I think...don't quote me on that. Anyway, we came at around 11pm on a Wednesday night, so the place wasn't too packed or too busy! Great place unwind with coworkers or some friends!
Amazingly for a city like New York large-scale quality places like the Ginger Man are far and few between. There seems to be no shortage of indistinguishable tiny bars. To be sure plenty of bars with a few cool features too but still plenty of forgettable ones.
What makes Ginger Man memorable is obviously it's beer selection. It is also extremely large inside and has a nice back room with Winston Churchillesque arm chairs and vintage beer paraphernalia. The bar is also in the bar scant area of Murray Hill.
The beer selection is indeed fine but craft beers and rare exports, aka the entire point of drinking here, can quickly start to run you some serious dollars. We are talking Murray Hill too lets be real...
From my experience going earlier will help alleviate some of the crowd cramps but even early you'll probably be standing.
Overall, the Ginger Man hype paid off. It's one of those places I'd pass on for a casual drink with a friend but would love to hit up with an adventurous group or out-of-town visitors, sample everyone's tasteh ales and make an evening of it.
Very impressive beer selection. That's about the only thing going for this place. The waitress was okay, but kind of hard to track down at times. The crowd is typical Murray Hill (30-something men in suits). My friends and I were the only group of women in the entire place and it was packed and I mean so packed that we had to push people out of the way to get to the bathroom. Most of the tables are small, except the sofa area in the back, so I wouldn't recommend for groups larger than five. There were 10 people in my group and we crammed into a small table near the front.
It's also worth nothing that their card minimum is $15.
Really nice space & people
Do you know the ginger man
the ginger man
the ginger man
Do you know the ginger man
I don't know the rest of the words
But who cares? (arms in the air with shoulders shrugged)
Invited to happy hour by one of my co-workers
The Ginger Man knows exactly what you want
Great spot to catch up but it can get packed and you might get bumped, a couple of times
The best beer joint in Manhattan. I love going just to see what their new brews are every few weeks. They have endless amounts of drafts (I think 70+) as well as loads of bottles. I've never quite gotten to the bottles, unfortunately. If you like pale ales, the Stone IPA and Oskar Blue's Dale's Pale Ale are solid but not too hopped up. It's also fun to try the specialty brews like the framboise, chocolate, etc.
I enjoy eating here and find the prices quite reasonable. I'm a big fan of the Ginger Man (hot dog with cheese & bacon & special sauce), although sometimes the tater tots can be a bit mushy. Even the salads are fair-sized portions. Pub food and sandwiches are similarly solid.
As far as the scene, it definitely dies down later at night. It's much more of an after work or first stop on a night out type of bar. But for those things, it's great. I have felt comfortable going to the Ginger Man with anyone from friend to father to colleague.
Have you seen the wall of taps they have? Have you tried to read their menu and decide on just ONE beer? Have you ever had to decide between bottle and tap? Well that's not really hard, but Ginger Man never disappoints. Huge selection of beers, HUGE! You just have to figure out what you like and the staff will take it from there.
Their food is pretty good as well. Hmmm bratwurst, don't look at me like that! Their cheese platter was pretty good as well. Yes we ordered strange stuff. The Flight they have where you get a sample of 4 beers is pretty good. Course its not available at certain times cause during the week the place is packed with people. Insanely packed where you can't even stand! I guess work really does get to you.
Aside from beer they also have hard liquor as well if some of your friends feel like drinking scotch. If you like beer, if you like to drink beer then go here. This isn't Homer's beer place, though its not that far off, its just got more than just Duff.
