Great place. Great draft beer choices. Outside deck on a nice afternoon is the place to be! If you work downtown, but drive north on the tollway home, this is a great place to chill and let the traffic thin out.
Then, hop down Wolf St and hit the tollway. -

Ohhh my Favorite G-Man.. so delightful it is soaking up the rays of the sun along with your sweet nectar.
I am not sure where to begin. I love this establishment...from the porch , to vast selection of beer, and of course that its DOG FRIENDLY. Thats right, after work the pooch and you can enjoy some quality time relaxing and getting work done, thanks to the free wifi provided! Truly a one stop shop.
Not to mention the food. mmm mmm, I enjoy the Turkey Cranberry the most. The sammy comes toasted and hot. The cranberry sauce is delectable. The only negative comment I can say is that they simply forgot to place a spear pickle on my plate. No biggie, I told my server and two fresh spears were promptly brought out.
I love this place. -

Love this place! Definitely somewhere to go on a nice weather night, the patio out back is really great - big long tables which are great for groups.
The beer is amazing! TONS of beer on draft. More than I've seen anywhere.
It can get really really crowded on a Friday or Saturday night. I would definitely recommend getting there early or honestly you might not be able to get a table and this place really isn't a stand around kind of bar. -

I was in Dallas for a conference and was staying at the Hyatt Summerfield which is a mile+ from downtown. My friends and I were not all that impressed with downtown Dallas and so we looked for something closer to our hotel and came across The Ginger Man which is nestled in a rather pleasant neighborhood.
We went on a Monday afternoon for lunch and it was all but empty. The day was warm enough to sit on the back patio where we had a nice lunch and a couple-three beers. The draft selection offered a nice range of styles and breweries. I tried a couple from (512) Brewing Company out of Austin, which I had never come across before. The bartender was quite helpful in guiding me and my friends toward excellent choices.
The food was above average pub food. We shared a nice cheese plate and I had a bratwurst with onions, sauerkraut and mustard.
All in all, a rather nice find. -

This place gets CRAZY busy. But even with the place crowded, service is prompt. There's upstairs seating with couches and also a huge upstairs AND downstairs patio area.
Huge selection of all types of beers all over the world. Oh, and only beer...and a few selections of wines. They also have a snack menu to order from. Decent prices all day long, happy hour or not. -

My husband and I love this place. We go here for a reprieve from reality to talk and have a beer adventure! The outdoor seating in the front and back patio are great and the inside is spacious and fun as well. The parking is in a large lot next to the building or street is available so there's generally no trouble getting a spot. It's super casual and great weekday spot.
You should definitely try this place out if you've never been! -
Review from Matt D.
One of the coolest bars in Dallas. They feature over 100 beers on tap and have a great back patio and upstairs outdoor area for the days when the weather is actually nice in Dallas. Prices are pretty fair. Not a place to meet new people on a Friday or Saturday night but great for groups of friends and happy hours.

This is one of my favorites in Uptown. I generally prefer to drink a mixture of beer and liquor, but they have enough beer to make up for the lack of whiskey. I love the layout, which is one of the most important factors in a bar for me.
Main room is great, with a few safe dart boards and a water cooler available for hydration - Big props to the decision makers there, that's a wonderful and responsible thing to do. Bathrooms are decent, though the guys have to walk outside. Upstairs is pretty fantastic if you have a large group and can claim a spot. It's not large at all, but the only time I used it was with a party of 20-30 and we were able to claim the majority of the inside and outdoor areas upstairs and it made for a killer night.
The front patio seems chill for an afternoon drink, but I discovered this place in the winter so I haven't posted up there yet. The back patio has tons and tons of seating on picnic tables, good heaters, and is well decorated with metal beer signs.
I've had good interactions with the staff - Some great beer recommendations from the waiters, a pleasant manager who bumped into my friend and brought him beers periodically the rest of the night. The only bartender I've worked with has not been friendly helpful or talkative, but she was fast so I'm okay with it. I've also been pleased with the music when I've noticed it (it's not loud, but its good - I've only noticed 90's rock). -

I was in Dallas for New Years. On my first night in town, a small group of friends gathered here to catch up. Its very laid back, perfect for a chill night before the ridiculousness that is New Years Eve unfolded.
They have a very extensive list of beers on draught. Too often to I go to places that claim to have a vast choice of beers on tap and am disappointed. I ordered an Anchor Steam, which I have never seen on tap on the East Coast. Needless to say I was very excited and pleased.
The dark wood sets the perfect atmosphere. The staff is friendly and attentive. There are darts if you're looking for something more active to do. Overall, a great place to catch up with friends. -

Original Post: "Not very impressed. I came here for a birthday party, and even though the party was over by the time I got there - I was completely ignored while standing outside, as servers asked "everyone" around me if they needed anything.
I say "Everyone" because it was not busy at all, and being a Saturday night - at 11:30.... I know why. Service sucked.
So why even give it 3 stars?!?! There are a few yelpers on here whose reviews I respect, and my experience could be a one time thing - so I won't completely judge them....
But I am not tempted to go back immediately to find out."
UPDATED: So... I have to give credit where credit is due, and being personally contacted to accept an apology for "Unacceptable" behavior is a very classy, and admirable trait I truly appreciate in a business.
Although I Have not been back, that simple gesture is enough to bump them up in my book.
Maybe they will get 5 stars when I get to experience the real Ginger Man. -

Definitely the place to come to be super laid back.
The beer and wine selection is vast.
Sadly for a bourbon girl like me these are the only options but this doesn't deter the hubby at all.
The front and back patio areas are perfect for wasting a warm afternoon or night away with pints, cigars, and friends.
I have ordered the food but in the middle of great conversation and perfect weather it honestly didn't make any impression at all other than it must have been good or I would remember.
If you are a cigar afficianado come and find John from Up in Smoke on the patio, he will offer great conversation and possibly a smoke, even dinner if you are cute lady. ;) -

There are a lot of bars with good or even excellent beer selections in uptown but the Gingerman takes the beer cake. They have about every style of beer other than bad. All this beer is served in a charming atmosphere. Choose between bar areas, front patio, beer garden, perhaps upstairs and the outdoor area there. The Boll Street location is only a minuscule distance from the main strip on McKinney Ave but being on this quiet side street makes sitting on the front patio just a bit more peaceful, especially during the day on the weekends.
The main draw here is beer, there is food that compliments great beer, the atmosphere is perfectly designed to enjoy a great import or craft beer, so if you like great beer and are willing to shell out the dough for it, you can't really go wrong here. -

This is a LARGE bar with a GREAT beer selection and LOTS of outdoor seating... soooo if that's your thing, I would definitely suggest it!
I don't get over there too often, but it is a cool place and I'm sure I'll be back! Once it's cooler out, those patios will be a great spot to relax in the evenings!Listed in: Dallas Can't Miss!, After Work Drinks!

LOVE The Gingerman! To show my "age" I've been going here since I turned 21 about 13 years ago. The best time to go is when the weather is just right and you can sit outside and drink from some of the best beer options in the area. It's just a comfy, cozy little spot that always gives me a warm fuzzy feeling when I go there with friends.

The Ginger Man never lets me down. Why? Because good beer never lets me down. Until the next morning maybe. One of the best selections of beer in the city. One of the more laid-back establishments in uptown. They don't serve liquor, so that limits the type of clientele that come here, which is more than okay with me.

I love this bar!! Love love love it! The bf took me there last night after dinner and we had a blast! Walked in the door, saw the dart board and started playing. (my first time playing darts but I was all about it and I won the last game AND got a bulls eye but that's beside the point)
We both ordered Young's Double Chocolate Stout and it was perfection in the form of beer. Subtle tast of chocolate so it posed perfectly as a dessert to top off the evening.
The growd was laid back and fun, played amazing music, lighting was great and you couldn't help but feel at home at this place. Whether it's for a fun night out with the guys or gals or a quiet night to catch up with your best girl... definitly check this place out! I'm just sad we went on the last weekend I'm here in Dallas. -

Awesome little pub in Dallas that I want to start frequenting more! Even though there is a Gingerman in Plano only a few minutes from my house. I still prefer this one over the Plano one due to one thing, the patio area! I am a sucker for some patio action on a nice day and Gingerman Dallas has one of the best patio areas Ive seen!
They have a ton of micro brews on tap and plenty more in bottles. A few dart boards line the inside of walls and a jukebox for songs. Wait staff has always been very friendly the handful of times I have been there.
Food wise, I have only had their cheese board and artichoke dip, both of which were very tastey!
All in all an awesome place to hang out with some buddies and have a few beers! -

Dallas, TX
Hands down the best beer hall in Dallas. I love everything about this place. The beer selection is fantastic and features lots of Texas beers that you can't get anywhere else with a constantly updated menu (the current oktoberfest menu has at least 8 new craft beers for the season including my favorite, Franconia Alt).
The staff is incredibly knowledgeable about the beers on tap and are available as a resource to help find someone that suits your palate. We've discovered some of our favorite beers there including the Real Ale Devil's Backbone, which is my fiance's favorite beer now. Also, the $5 per pint for beautifully made craft beers is VERY reasonable.
And a random point for any music junkies out there: the Ginger Man juke box is the best juke box in Dallas. I've spent many a Friday night pumping dollar after dollar into it.
This is the shining gem of uptown. A diamond in the rough, if the rough was a street full of douchey bars. I met my fiance at the Ginger Man and we both love it so much that we're trying to figure out if/how to have our engagement party there. If someone from the staff could message me about it, I will give you a kidney.
I've been in the city for 21 years now. The Ginger Man is my favorite thing about Dallas. -

This place is GREAT if you like beer. I do not:-( So therefor there was nothing for me to drink here LOL but I still had fun. The patio was THE place to be. I wouldnt bother with the indoors...it was creepy, I dunno why I just got bad vibes inside lol who knows. SO yeah I would go back but make sure I bring my mini bottles or come drunk since I do not like beer:-X

I don't even like beer and i come coming back here! I order the ciders just to keep them in business.
Seriously tho - The Ginger Man in a nutshell, is just awesome.
The laid back scene, the house structure, the patio with the live band, the community seating, it's all very Austin-y, especially considering the Uptown crowd can really be the anti-Austin.
GM is charming and I shall return and have returned many times. -

I've been here twice and I'm a fan. Being new to the area, I yelped "bars" in Dallas and this was the first place I tried. The ambiance is relaxing and there isn't a "stuffy" feeling of normal bars. There are plenty of tables to sit at just enjoy your drink without having to stand up and potentially having someone bump into you with his/her drink. The patio area outside is nice too with waitress service if you can snag a seat!
There's a large selection of draft beers and they're all specialty/imports. There are domestic beers but if you're looking for a Coors Light, this place isn't for you. I haven't had any of the wines yet but I'm sure they're just as good as the beers. They also have event nights where you should make reservations like the one coming up called "Christmas in July" where they bring in winter seasonal drinks!
Personal favorite - Shiner Blonde Light
If you're in Uptown...stop by here for the chill ambiance, especially if you're looking to avoid the crowds and want service. -

I've been coming to the Ginger Man for several years now but decided to come tonight because of a comment from another Yelper about a free pint glass with logo for the beer of the night. So, I decided to add to my glass collection! (btw- tonight is Fireman's 4)
I love the Ginger Man, and not because I'm what some might call a ginger myself. I love it because of the nooks. Live music, at times, up in the front and darts too, the upstairs study-like room with leather couches and bookshelves, but I especially love the huge outdoor patio. These nooks appeal to any drinking mood on any given day.
Speaking of any given day...you should probably go on Tuesday b/c apparently there is a bad arse and highly competitive trivia game each Tuesday. There was a nice balance of current events, pop culture, movie/tv trivia to suite any regular Joe, so bring it.
This is a beer drinkers place. The beer selection is vast. Drink beer; it's good. They have the other stuff to drink here and pretty good food too, but c'mon, just drink the beer!Listed in: My Neighborhood, The Places I Go Out, In what year did...

This is a cool place to go in Dallas... not too crowded, and the scene is nice..(not your typical dallas scene!). It's a very chill place. They have a great patio area out back and often play live music. Definitely stop by this place for a drink!

Need I say more?
Definitely the best place in Dallas to try a new brew or ale. Don't like beer? One of the barkeeps will blend beers to make it just like the cocktail/wine/beverage you usually like! You won't be disappointed.
Food here is great - better than your typical bar fare. They have a turkey cranberry sandwich that I'll skip lunch for any day!
Back patio and porch are fantastic - even in the dog days of summer - thanks to the G'man's fans and cold drinks.
Birthday party, family in town, casual date, end of the night - the Gingerman is definitely the place to be. -

I love the comparison to Spider House (Austin). It's so true. Quirky, off the beaten path, yet so well known.
I like getting there early and snagging a seat on the front patio, or, if we're lucky, the much coveted upstairs coner patio seat out back. The rest of the backyard is communal type picnic seating so learn to love your neighbors - if they're here, they're probably good people. Darts and more tables inside. There's really not a bad spot in the house.
Hit up logo pint night on Tuesdays. You get to keep the mug and try out a different beer each week, so it's a win-win! The beer selection (esp draft) is probably the best in uptown and they do serve wine, if that's more your style, but you won't find any liquor here. I'm usually gone by dinner time, but if you stay long enough for food, the soft pretzel is pretty tasty.
Wednesdays used to be trivia night. I haven't been in awhile but I assume they still have it. They have live music on weekends and always participate in the big chili cook off in the spring for Scottish Rite and the crawl for cancer.
This place gets a 5 from me! -

Met a friend for happy hour as I found this place on yelp. The reviews really did this place justice. They have a ton of beers to choose from and wonderful atmosphere. We ended up hanging out upstairs, since the weather was cold, but I would love to go back and have drinks outside.
The only downside is the parking. Be patient as you will probably drive around the block a few times. -
Review from J B.
Bona fide beer lovers, take note of this bona fide beer bar!
Ginger Man, while overpriced, even relative to the increasingly expensive craft beer bar scene, is a great place to drink beer. Here, you can learn about new brews while finding old, craft favorites. I love the concentration of great TX beers (keep your eyes open for the Saint Arnold Divine Reserve beers, which tend to be incredible, yet are tough to find unless you sneak into the GM). The bartenders and servers are generally very knowledgeable and, more importantly, honest. Once, a bartender told me to avoid a beer that another patron had enthusiastically ordered because she thought it was overpriced and overserved. So she gave me a taste, allowed me to agree with her opinion, and happily served me a better glass of beer (thanks, Jim Koch!)
Other valuable info: they serve food, though it tends to be in smaller portions (sandwiches and apps), they serve wine, though the focus is clear on beer, and they serve cigars. There are two patios, both of which allow patrons to enjoy aforementioned drinks and cigars, and the location is close to several Uptown restaurants and shops. -

I don't know where to begin.
Atmosphere-wise, it's very similar to the Spider House (Austin) in that wooded house feel. It's got plenty of seating area on the patio, the first room you walk into, the upstairs library area, the upstairs patio, the upstairs lofty patio, then downstairs by the stage. If you can't find a place to sit, this place is probably paaaacked, and you're SOL.
Service is great here. Everyone's super friendly. It seems like they've got a couple of house dogs as well which is just precious. I haven't ever been there when the upstairs bar is being used, but maybe it does get used from time to time.
The first time I came here to actually sit down and enjoy it was with a dear friend. We played darts, cuddled on the couch, and enjoyed the night so I'll always have good feelings for this place. Minus the fact that the darts ended up on the wall or floor more than the actual board. Heh..

If I could live here, I would.
GOSH - this is one of those Dallas bars that serves as a sanctuary from the stereotypes this city is capable of serving up.
Vast array of refreshing, delicious brew and even a smallish menu that has some awesome staple items (a hot dog wrapped in a pretzel served with spicy mustard? Yeah, that just happened).
I like to go here, request that the bartender selects my beer choice for me, and just enjoy life. They have a freaking awesome back patio that's really spacious and has a lot of seating, and the music they're bumping is usually perfectly hipster with a splash of rock. Awe-sum.Listed in: Totes Chill, Out on the Ti-Zown

This is the best bar in Uptown. With dozens of draft beer options, even more by the bottle, The Ginger Man is a haven for beer lovers. Where else will the bartender recommended a BPA ("Belgian Pale Ale") and educate you on the subtle differences between that and an IPA?
Besides the great beer selection, Ginger Man is set in an old house with about 5-6 tables on the front porch, ample seating inside, and then a large outdoor patio (with long tables) out back. They usually have live music (nothing too loud) on the patio as well. -
Review from Adam W.
Love me some G-Man... Easily the best selection of beer in Uptown, and I would venture a guess that it poses strong competition to others in DFW in general. Have been here a few times when they give out the mugs or glasses for an additional few dollars, and some folks like to collect those, so that's kinda cool. Otherwise, this place has been host to some of the better nights in Uptown I can just barely remember - Texas / OU when a guy was randomly dancing in the corner, didn't realize that his pants had fallen down, and continued to dance as everyone laughed and yelled, haha...
Also of note, the sandwiches here are pretty good so if you need some grub there are a few options available. Always enjoying walking in and seeing what is new on draft or in bottles... Always a fine job by the folks here. -

Uptown is better than Shops at Legacy
Forgive me for being a little lazy on this review, but I can't think of anything to rave about that hasn't already been mentioned in previous reviews of this location. It's an unassuming pub that is full of character and comfort. No snooty pretentious-ness here.
I can agree that the service was great. I am a complete clutz and spilled a beer. (Party foul!) Sure enough, our waitress was right there helping clean up the mess before I could even blurt out an apology.
I love that there is a jukebox with a great music selection. When it started playing Radiohead, I was in love!
The only negative thing I could think of is that the bathroom stalls in the ladies' room were tiny crowded. If I kept one stall door open, it would've locked in whomever was in the other stall! After a couple of beers, I was bumping my head into the stall door, lol. But I'm a clutz, remember? Don't know if other ladies have the same problem here..
All in all, my favorite pub in Uptown! If I ever had to host an event, this place would be first to come to mind.Listed in: Wild Nights with Maxine

4/24, Stop 1: The Ginger Man
We (J, T, T's friends that we met at Rocco's, and I) came here for a drink. It was about 10 of us. It's a beer place and they had a really good selection. They also have wine. J was on water by now. I had a glass of wine (Louis M Martini Cab) and T had a Bluefin. I don't know what the others had.
The Ginger Man looks like a house (like a lot of the places in the 'hood) and is one of my friends' regular haunts. It's 2 stories, huge patio, wood, and cas. It's a nice place to chill.
We stayed for 1 drink. T's friends were a part of a wedding, so we ventured off to Stoneleigh P to meet up with the rest of the crew. However, I liked The Ginger Man and I'll come back again. -
Review from Daniel L.
Ginger Man: you have been my favorite since the night I turned 21 years old and celebrated with my frat over [many] nice pints.
Perfect location in Uptown.
Set off from the big street enough to be able to find parking. On Tuesday I was even able to park in the lot, a real rarity.
Plentiful beer options from the rock solid Fireman's #4 to the expensive bling-bling options like Dogfish Head.
Patio seating - most excellent.
Dartboards.
Creaky old staircase leading up to the awesome sofa and lounge-y second floor.
Friendly waitress.
The fun backyard
This place is perfect - don't change anything! -
Review from Jean L.
Solid 3.5 stars.
I went here on a slow day: it was for the most part pretty empty.
I'll admit I was kind of disappointed. Having heard that this was a beer-dominant bar, I was expecting more selection.
There food menu was also a bit limited.
I was there on a night when the waitresses were training, so it was a bit hard to get opinions on local brews (there weren't very many, anyway though). The bartender seemed preoccupied, and for how many people were there (not many), I would have expected slightly better service.
The establishment set-up was pretty fun, though and had a good laid-back feel. -
Review from Scott L.
It was a lonely Monday night and I needed a drink. Happy music and laughter came from a brightly lit patio.
On the front porch were intimate groups slowly drinking pints and actually having conversations. A goodlooking happy polite college age crowd dominated. The dimly lit wooden cottage had a european vibe and so did the manners. They were out of pilsner urquell on draft so I opted for red wine. They don't serve liquor here, but I found that a charming niche. I ate a creamy grilled pesto and cheese baguette at the bar, as I watched the dart games where the losers had to do pushups. Nice patio. On a quiet night this place was the perfect spot to ruminate about a past lover.
For now, I'll avoid the weekends.Listed in: top (22) Dallas Bars

Great outdoor seating (front and back). Service has always been extremely helpful and friendly. I've had very little food here but what I had I thoroughly enjoyed (I believe it was a meat and cheese plate, and some sandwich?).
Beers are always nice and cold. My buddy bought me some kind of sour beer the last time I went. It may sound bad, but sour in a good way. It was great! I'm not sure what the name of it was (I'm ashamed!), but I can't wait to go back and find it.
After a couple of great visits here, and reading five-star reviews, I'll definitely be heading back soon. -

If you enjoy a huge variety of beer, a laid back atmosphere, and knowledgable staff, then this is the spot for you. We used to hit the place up for happy hour 3-4 nights a week, now that I'm a mommy its a special treat I try to give myself a few times a month.
The patio's are great for a relaxing beer hanging with friends but since its long picnic tables, make sure you don't mind getting friendly!
Biggest plus-if you LOVE trying new beers, if you aren't sure what you are in the 'mood' for, the staff will guide you to the right pick. With so many draught and bottles to pick from you are sure to find a new favorite! -

I can't always make it to Uptown to visit the Ginger Man, but I'm never let down when I make the trip. I joined some folks for a random Tuesday night out and, even on a weeknight, the crowds were out in full force. Service was a bit slow that night, but our cute little waiter made up for it. Like Andrea said, he actually looked a bit like Justin Timberlake & didn't seem to mind our overtly sexually harrassing comments. Kudos to him for having a good sense of humor.
I started off with my typical Blue Moon, which might be a bit boring, but it was frosty & refreshing given the crazy heat outside. But, thanks to the knowledgeable group I was with, I did manage to find a new beer I like that night... the Black Velvet. Let's face it - mixing Guinness with anything is sure to make it tasty! If you're brave, make sure you try the fire chips. Because honestly, we have too many taste buds anyway, so you might as well weed out the weak ones with some fierce spice.
If you can snag the upstairs room or patio, do so. They're the best locations if you have a group of people you're hanging with for an evening. Whether it is happy hour or just a chance gathering with good friends, the Ginger Man will not disappoint!Listed in: Beer Me!, Waterin' Holes
