I found this hotel to be attractive and accommodating. My gripes were:

1) Parking -- if you are going to move your car out of the garage, you have to pay $25 for valet, which coupled with tip amounts to too much $$.

2) Internet -- having Ethernet as long as you supply your own cord or buy one from the front desk? annoying.

3) Pool -- the 'rooftop' pool is not very attractive and enclosed with intrusive fencing. The view is majorly obstructed.

I would recommend this hotel, but with some reservations.

First off, nothing is close in Atlanta, so its not like you are going to find a hotel with better food options close by.  There is a late night diner close and some other food options just a little further away.

My second gripe with the hotel is that there are no blackout curtains.  Mini-blinds are your only shield from the bright sun, which is a bummer because they have late check outs -- 12pm extended to 1pm.

The renovations in the common areas of the were beautifully done, with interesting antique touches.  I loved the Gone with the Wind connection.  The rooms are large and give great value for the price.

The Georgian Terrace gets three stars for hotel quality, plus one more for the amazing staff.

I was traveling to Atlanta with three friends for a conference and got us this reservation through Priceline (my first bid ever!). So... you know how Priceline has a bunch of small print about how bids only guarantee accommodations for two adults? Yeah, they're not kidding about that. As such, when I checked into the hotel at 8:30 pm...

"We've upgraded you from a standard room to a one-room suite."
"Oh. Um, that's great. Does it have two beds?"
"No. But it has a queen size bed. And a couch!"
"...but I'm staying with three other people. You really don't have any rooms with two double beds?"
"Well we do. But they're all booked. Anyway, we've already upgraded you to a suite. It has a couch!"
"Is it a pull-out couch?"
"No. Yes... maybe? You can go check if you want."

Even in my jet-lagged state, I could tell that the couch definitely did not pull out. The following conversation ensued upon my return to the registration desk:

"Does it pull out?"
"No."
"Oh."
"Um... you really don't have any rooms open with two beds?"
"No. I mean, we don't have any rooms. We do have two-room suites that have two beds... but you'd have to pay an upgrade fee."

As it turns out, all of the two-room suites were full. So what did they do? That's right, friends: for the same price, they upgraded us to a three-bedroom suite. And by suite, I clearly mean apartment: 1800 square feet, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen with both fridge and dishwasher, 4 TVs, and more couches than I can count on one hand. Oh, and there was a laundry room. My house in Boston doesn't even have a laundry room -- it has a laundry hallway. Seriously. Our suite was so much nicer than any apartment I'll be renting within the next two decades.

The best part? This room -- excuse me, suite -- normally goes for $350+. We ended up paying less than a third of that price... and that's including the upgrade fee and miscellaneous taxes.

HOTEL WIN.

Truly a disappointment.

Money has recently been pumped into this hotel which has great potential. Unfortunately, the money has not been spent wisely and I am sure some interior decorator is getting paid entirely too much to destroy this hotel.

The charming rocking chairs which once graced the front patio overlooking the also historic Fox Theatre have been removed.... replaced instead with modern trendy lounges covered in a material which resembles seaweed.

When you enter the lobby, you are not greeted by the classy furniture you would expect from such a landmark. There is a plaque which explains the historical significance of the hotel. Yet, ironically, the historical plaque overlooks a lobby decorated with hideous modern furniture. A rug with a circular pattern which is more befitting a dorm room. A circular couch which belongs in a night club. Coffee tables that look more like futuristic birdcages.

I have been told that the rug, circular couch, and futuristic tables actually represent a lily pond. Apparently, there is a "natural" theme throughout the hotel. I guess I just don't get "art" because I don't see a lily pond. It exudes "cheap."

Oh... and there was hip-hop playing in the lobby.

The guest rooms have great potential and it is my understanding that a remodeling is in the future. Unfortunately, the decor of the common areas would suggest that the guest rooms will be hideous as well.

Downtown Atlanta has an endless supply of modern and trendy hotels. The owners of The Georgian Hotel are not taking advantage of the hotel's obvious niche. Forget the modern decor and stick to what is appropriate for such a dignified building. Bring back classy.

The good:
* Historic and gorgeous blending of the old and the new architecture
* Friendly staff
* 1.5 blocks from the MARTA station
* Great deals possibly by booking through Priceline ($109 per night compared to a low of $225/night if booked through the hotel's website)
* Every room is a suite with kitchen. Mine also had two flatscreen tvs, a full-sized washer and dryer, and a comfortable bed.
* Trial sized shampoo/conditioner/lotion are put out daily (I love coming home with a bunch of travel-sized samples!)
* Business center is available 24-hours a day and the computers are free to use and include free printing
* With the windows closed, my room was quiet despite overlooking a busy street.
* Staff does not go through personal belongings when freshening up the room

The bad:
* Not a lot of cheap food alternatives nearby
* Room service is way more pricey than usual
* "Hot" water is really not a reality, so my bathwater was tepid at best
* Closest Starbucks is 4 LONG blocks away
* TV channel guide is totally incorrect - many channels weren't available at all, and those that were often were not on the channel that the guide indicated

The Ugly:
* The 1.5 blocks to the MARTA involves running a gauntlet of homeless aggressively asking for handouts, making the walk pre-dawn or after-dark very uncomfortable if you're walking alone

What I'll know for next time I'm in Atlanta if I stay there again:
* A cab from the hotel where the team stays to this hotel costs $10 - which is a good deal after dark if unaccompanied
* I should stop at a supermarket before heading for the hotel so I can stock munchies and breakfast items in the fridge.
* There is a Chinese/Mexican place nearby that delivers (found this out from a flyer placed under my door on the last night I was there - after I got back from dinner!)

An odd detail: I washed my jeans during my hotel stay here this week. That's right-- my room came equipped with a washer and dryer. AND a full-sized fridge and dishwasher. How you gonna top that?

So the check-in/check-out process is a bit slow... however, the sweet as pecan pie staff makes it more manageable. They're every bit the consummate Southern hosts you'd expect at one of Atlanta's oldest and grandest hotels.

My room was HUGE. As big as my Chicago apartment-- somewhere around 1000 sf. That much space is really an unnecessary luxury for one traveler but still fun! And the panoramic city view from the bedroom helped coax me out of my ultra comfy bed every morning.

FREE Wi-Fi. I wished more hotels offered that amenity gratis!

Beautiful old (1820s) hotel in downtown Atlanta right across from the Fox Theatre. Huge suites with lots of amenities, including a washer/dryer, full kitchen and living room/bedroom with a very comfortable bed. If you can get a rate of less than 175/night, I'd recommend it.

A couple tips:
- Using valet parking. The attached parking garage is not associated with the hotel, so you pay the hourly rate. With valet, you can do unlimited in/out for $25 a day, which makes it easier.

- The gym leaves a little to be desired. It's a got a beautiful view on the Penthouse level, but a number of the machines weren't working, which makes it cramped. Get there early and be willing to use different machines.

I really enjoyed this place. The valet was great and inexpensive. The service is wonderful, kind, and personable. The building is beautiful.

If you visit Atlanta, stay here. It's so worth the money. The area is good. There are restaurants around. And the beds are super cozy.

So far my wedding vendor list has been one big lovefest. Thanks to my new wife's Eisenhower-like ability to plan giant invasions, our wedding (with its dozens upon dozens of out-of town guests) mostly went off without a hitch.  Mostly. And here's where Debbie Downer shows her sullen face.

Georgian Terrace, why must you screw up the flow of my reviews? My space (Paris on Ponce), my caterer (Badda Bing), my photographer (weddingsbyjason) and even the place where I bought my liquor (Green's) all earned high marks. So why can't the oldest hotel in all of Atlanta score the same? Because their customer service desk is run by a couple of rhesus monkeys riddled with brain injury.  Each time..EACH TIME either my girl or I called to check on an arrangement, they acted like it was the first time they'd spoken with us. And this was AFTER we'd signed a contract for a block of suites.

"And what dates would these be for?"

"Uh, don't you have the contract in front of you?"

"Contract?"

We knew it was going to be a sour relationship when they couldn't even spell my wife's name right. Once they managed to spell my fiancée's name, they accidentally changed the number of rooms we reserved on us until my fiancée pulled her wedding planning kung fu on them. (Note to all brides: maintain good records.) Answering the phone seems to be a challenge for them as well. Finally, after all was said and done, they overbooked our set of 2 room suites. To their credit, they offered 2 separate rooms to our guests at the same agreed-upon price.

In their defense, when the wedding actually got here, our guests seemed to enjoy their stays. I never got a chance to actually see the rooms because I was off doing wedding stuff. Hell, I barely even got to see my own bedroom that week.

My mother did complain about the construction going on Friday morning at 9am.  Then again, she was still a bit jetlagged. Oh and she's an Asian mother. (Seriously, I don't care about the mythology built around them, Jewish mothers ain't got NOTHIN' on Asian mothers. I'd pit my Asian mother against a klatch of Jewish mothers in a 3-on-1 Texas Caged Guilt-off. She'd take them down in under a minute.) Oh and my cousin also called the Georgian Terrace "underwhelming," but he's a fancy New Yorker who lives on Central Park West and they're all used to being all fancy pants and wearing shoes when they go out to eat their vittles.

So I'm going to give the Terrace, 2.5 stars that I will round down to 2. I hate to do that to such a venerable institution, but until they get their customer service straightened up, it'll have to do. But if they call me, I'm sure we can discuss this. It may just take me a while to answer the phone and when I do, I may have to transfer them, oh, 4 or 5 additional times.  What's good for the goose, y'know....

The weekend was completely SUCKED  BUTT CRACK so I really am trying to be fair to the hotel!

LONG STORY SHORT....This is a pretty nice hotel. Right across the street from the Fox Theater.   We stayed in the 2 bedroom 2 bath suite and the place was awesome!  2 full baths, excess closet space and a washer and dryer.  The staff were pretty nice but this place is not without it's share of problems.  There's some queens that work the desk that like to get catty and that's one strike!  In the downtown area, parking is extermely limitied and tight on top of that.  Valet is 25 dollars a day.   That's another strike...The front desk neglected to tell us when we booked the room that is was a $75 dollar/night deposit for incidentals.  Final blow...

We could've saved our money and stayed somewhere cheaper and more centrally located.  I Won't come back here from all those reasons combined.

This is by far my favorite hotel in Atlanta. The rooms are great with lots of space and in mnay cases a small kitchen. The rooms have free internet access. The beds are pretty good.

The check-in desk is typically SLOW, but once you pass check-in the rest is really good.

The breakfast buffet is OK but I would recommend going to a neighborhood place rather than having the hotel breakfast. The quality / cost ratio is not great.

But the rooms and the ambience is great!

Lipstick on a pig! First impression would lead you to believe your in a top notch hotel, but don't be fooled. As the days wear down, so does the lustre.
The staff is polite, but not affective.
After numerous attempts, phones that didn't work, attempted to be fixed and still don't work.
The free internet is weak at best (ended up buying a wireless card).
Room service arrived excessively late more than once.
My vodka had been replaced with water, which I found out because I tried to make a drink and it was frozen. And the bar was closed. What the F!
And what is that smell? The hotel I think...

I really wanted to like this hotel.  The location was great and the exterior and the lobby were gorgeous, but sadly that is where it ended.

Our room was extremely small.  The mattress was uneven; our feet were higher than our heads.  Our door seemed like it was kicked in at some point.  I could easily stick my finger between the door and the frame.  It also wouldn't lock properly.  We mentioned this to the front desk hoping to get a different room, but they said they were completely booked and offered to send someone up to fix it.  The maintenance guy they sent up seemed to be drunk.  He just played around with it until we told him it was ok just to get him to leave.

I loved Atlanta, and really want to go back, but next time we will stay at a different hotel.

Disclaimer:  I should probably mention that we booked the room on Priceline... I'm starting to suspect that all the crappy rooms are reserved for http://Priceline.com users.

This hotel is extremely convenient if you're attending an event at the Fox Theatre or Georgia Tech.  It's also an easy walk to restaurants, bars, convenience stores, etc.  The doormen and registration staff are extremely friendly and welcoming.

The rooms are quite large and well-appointed, but they also show their age.  The blinds in my room were twisted and didn't work properly; the temperature was a constant 80+, and adjusting the thermostat made no difference; the windows opened about three inches but wouldn't stay up by themselves.

The food in the restaurant was abundant (breakfast buffet) and adequate, but it was nearly empty (9 a.m. on Saturday), and while the staff was attentive, they clustered nearby and discussed their own plans for Saturday night.

Two other drawbacks:  The TVs in the room are way out of date--small, 17-inch ones with remotes that don't work and a limited cable selection; and no newspapers are provided outside the rooms on weekdays.

All in all, it's a convenient and friendly hotel.  Amenities just don't quite live up to its look and feel.

It was, just...OK.  My recommendation is that they renovate their rooms.  Ours was out-dated and a bit dingy.  Other than that, the building is beautiful and worth a visit.  I'm not sure how long it's been around, but it seems like an Atlanta landmark especially since it's across from the Fox Theatre.

The concierge was very accommodating seeing as we needed to stay the night in downtown at the last minute.  They knocked like $100 bucks off our room since it was late and they knew they wouldn't get full price for it at that particular hour.

I absolutely adore the Georgian Terrace and it is now my new favorite in Atlanta! The location is perfect, and for someone who appreciates art and history, this is the ideal location to get your creative fix.

I stayed there to celebrate my birthday and the suites are surprisingly enormous! They have full kitchens (not just a kitchenette) so its also great for families or extended stay trips.

The room I was in faced the Fox and had a small balcony off the living/dining area....quite romantic. The beds are huge and they have the super comfortable TempurPedic ones. The room service is fast, reasonable and the staff is super polite.

I really like the noon checkout since many hotels are switching to 11:00 a.m. now. I also enjoyed the complimentary Wi-Fi service and the AJC newspaper left at the door (vs. the Wall Street Journal at some other hotels I've stayed in).

Considering all you get for "free", the room rates are very reasonable, but what I didn't like was the PARKING! I paid $22 for less than 24 hours! For me, it would be cheaper to take a taxi there and back since I don't live too far from the area. Plus, they only take cash which had me digging for change in my ashtray since I rarely carry over $20 with me. For that, I must take off one star.

if you are looking for an affordable, family friendly hotel or romantic weekend retreat,  you'll definitely love the place.

Well at least the room isn't yellow like the room I just stayed in during my Portland trip! Yellow will drive you crazy, trust me on this one.

This hotel is pretty cool and the room is kinda growing on me. For starters it's huge, both hotel and my room. Long hallways, a washer and dryer in the room, a TV remote with only 2 buttons that work, a HUGE bed that all 5'11 and 3/4's of me can lie diagonally in and still not hang off the bed, a cool view of red, orange and green Fall trees, a friendly crew at the front desk, a team of valets who probably waited til I was out of earshot to laugh at me when i tripped due to a high heel incident on my way in, a kitchenette, a nice big closet, but surprisingly, no wireless internet?

This seems really odd to me. I mean, the room has complimentary internet thanks to a cable I found in the closet, but no wifi? Seems weird seeing as how a lot of business travelers stay here and it's limiting because only one person can be online at a time. And so they lose a star for that. But with the exception of that, the not so appealing bathroom wallpaper and really shallow tub, the ugly comforter and mismatched chair upholstery, and really "interestingly boring" wall art, this hotel serves its purpose and I would stay here again.

The Georgian Terrace is fantastic. We reserved th cheapest room though upon arrival they said our room "may be too small for two people." I have a feeling the room was plenty big. For no cost, they upgraded us to a one bedroom suite. Jesus, the room was bigger then our apartment back in San Francisco. It had one bedroom, one office, a living, a kitchen and a wsher/driver. Wild.

The hotel itself, while not packed, was very nice. It seemed to have a lot of history. Well ok, I'm tired now...

I have joined http://Yelp.com specifically in order to review the Georgian Terrace. My company is staying here for a few months, it is more corporate housing than a hotel. Where do I start?! 1) The maids at different times have knocked, called, and have even attempted to ENTER THE ROOM, all while I had the Do Not Disturb sign out. That's Housekeeping 101, right? 2) They promise high-speed internet. Since the whole hotel use the same router, the speed of the internet is WORSE than dial-up. Unbelievable they haven't upgraded this. 3) The cabinets and appliances are old and worn, the refrigerator door is unbearably squeaky. 4) Most important, on February 13, 2009, a woman in our company was sexually assaulted on the 9th floor, just in front of the elevators. Since only one elevator was in service at the time due to construction (see point 5), it took security an excruciating extra few minutes to get to her. In fact, other guests wound up seeing what was going on, and broke up the scene. Luckily the perp was caught. 5) Construction currently being held is unbearable. They told our company it would take a week or two to complete, and it is now turning out to be several months, well after we leave, to complete. 6) Midtown Atlanta is probably one of the worse areas to be in. There are hustlers on nearly every corner of the area, and prostitutes openly walk around within a one-block radius. 7) Rude, unhelpful service at the front desk. My wife has overheard them swear to each other while guests were in earshot. This is a beautiful, historic looking building from the outside and from pictures. But I will go to my grave steering everyone I know away from this dump.

UPDATE: After the assault incident, the hotel notified us that they were immediately going to beef up security, and anyone going to the elevators to the rooms had to present their room key card to the security personnel on duty. To test this, several people in our group flashed other cards in their wallet, NOT THEIR ROOM KEY CARD, credit card, Starbucks card, drivers licenses, etc. and every ridiculously inept security guard let them through without a blink. These people do not have their act together.

When I was moving out, I used a luggage cart to load my stuff and was going to the elevator in the back of the hotel and then the garage. The security guard on duty stopped me and asked where I was going. I told him the route I was taking to the garage, and he told me there was no way to get there, since there were only stairs. I told him, no, there was an elevator next to the stairs. He looked at me inquisitively, turned to a nearby bellhop and asked, "There's an elevator over there?!" Then he turned to me and said, "You can try, I guess." I don't think I'm being too picky when I feel that a security guard should know the layout of the entire building he's guarding. Don't stay here.

The service is horrible and the people are rude.  Usually I can at least find one positive thing to say in a review.  In this case, I've got nothing, nada, NOPE!  Walk a couple blocks there are certainly better more affordable hotels - that certainly know the meaning of the word .... SERVICE.

Ate here for lunch today.  The Smoked Turkey sandwich was easily the best deal on the menu.  That's not to say, however, that it was a good deal.  $13 for lunch is a bit much.  I didn't pick to go there.  It was a fairwell lunch for some co-workers.

The service was terrible...  Aweful, even.  The food took forever to come out.  The waitress complained when we asked for seperate checks.  The only refilled our drinks when we asked.

I will NOT eat there again.

I used to stay at the Georgian Terrace quite a bit when I used to travel to Atlanta for work.  The building that I was going to was just across the street (NationsBank Tower).  The Fox theater is across the street.

I first stayed there at the suggestion of one of my co-workers (he also recommended the Hyatt Rickey's in Palo Alto, CA).  The hotel definitely has some positive elements.  The rooms are large and many of them are suites with full kitchens (the hotel did time as an apartment building in the past).  There is a pool on the roof and the workout room is good.

The major downside is that there are not a lot of dining options within walking distance.  The area can be dead in the evening and I often found myself going to other parts of town.  The North Street MARTA station is a short walk so it is not necessary to rent a car (I almost never rented a car when I traveled to Atlanta).

Eventually I decided to stay at other Hotels in either Buckhead or downtown since I found that was where I was ending up in the evening.

I have not been back in a couple of years so my memories are probably a little dated.

I had the misfortune of staying at this historic hotel this past week during a conference in Atlanta. Where do I begin? DO NOT STAY HERE.  Book a hotel someplace else. Someplace modern. And DO NOT go to a conference here. There is no place to plug in your laptop in the conference rooms as an attendee. No cell phone service down in the conference area. Horrible. Now, for the "highlights" of my room. Neither of the 2 phones in my room ever worked, so calling the front desk, room service, or ANYTHING was not possible. I informed them at the frost desk, and they just said "Oh, they ain't workin"? And said they would get on it. They didn't. The maid "service"? Begins tapping on the door in the morning even with a DO NOT DISTRUB sign. They also are doing construction at this hotel and clearly are woefully behind. Of the 2 elevators in the entire hotel, one of them was broken every day from Tues-Fri. And, either the door would not open on my floor or a repair man was in there struggling with the elevator trying to fix it. I heard, jackhammers, saws, hammers and more workers were making noise all day that disrupted the conference significantly. I noticed the staff seemed to be more interested in commiserating amongst themselves than in helping guests. Oh, and don't expect to find a local or national paper available. I went downstairs one morning and asked "Do you have a newspaper"? And the man looked at me and said, "Nope." I asked him, "OK..where can I get one?" and he replied "Go 'round the corner and there's a store about a block over". OK, so that's not a huge deal but for those of us who travel for business quite often it's pretty much a standard service that there's a newspaper in front of your room or at least in the lobby. So OK..The last day there...I stepped out to get breakfast at 7:30 AM and notice the vile stench and clear evidence of human regurgitation. OK it was nasty, chunky, smelly vomit. ALL up and down the hall. Yes, I skipped breakfast.  At that point, I went downstairs from the lobby to the conference to work the table. Guess what? The hotel had boxed up all my conference materials and the event wasn't even over. Taking as an omen of sorts, I thought, "I'll just go to the room and work", since my flight wasn't until after 2:00 PM. I finally make it back up to the room and voila! My key card no longer works. So, I go down to the front desk, and the guy says, "Aren't you leaving today?" And I replied, "Well, yes, but it's 8:15 AM, and my bags are still up there and check out is at 11, right"? He said, "Oh, OK, well here" and swiped the card into his machine and gave it back to me. It's not over yet folks. So then there I am on a conference call with my boss and colleagues ON MY CELL PHONE since the hotel phone doesn't work, and suddenly someone starts tapping on the door..."Maiiiiid service". I opened the door and while on my call said, "You're going to have to come back later". She said "Well, we need to get this room ready for another guest". So I shut the door, completed my call and decided to just leave. So I go down to get some cash for a cab and ask where the ATM machine is, and the man behind the desk smiled and said, "It's broken. You'll have to go next door to the other hotel they got one there". Finally, I was free and out of the historic Georgian Terrace Hotel. I just went to the airport. And I will never ever ever, ever EVER stay there again. And, I feel a strong desire to warn anyone and everyone to NOT stay here. Ever. In the words of Melle Mel and Grandmaster Flash, "DON'T DO IT!".

The Georgian Terrace is one of those you must experience while in Atlanta. I get the whole antique and historic look thing, but the room was just ugly, old, unattractive and just out dated. For the cost and all the press about this hotel, I was quite disappointed that the rooms were so NOT sexxy. The location was great, especially because my evening plans included The Fox Theatre and Midtown dining, but an update and remodel is a definite order!  Now I'd do the hotel bar for drinks ONLY!  The food has not bee that great on several occassions.

The hotel is lovely, but having never stayed there, I can't say much about the rooms or service.  I came to eat at the Savoy, but had to wander around the beautiful space once I caught a tiny glimpse.  I'm a sucker for old brick and the Georgian has it in spades.  It was built in 1911 and combines old with new.  There is a strange (and huge) atrium in the center, that must go up 15 stories.  When you walk in from the restaurant, it feels a bit like you're in Grand Central Station - most of the building looks like it may have been outside at one point, and they added an enclosed addition on later (probably not ture, but that's how it feels).  There is marble and tile and brick, and huge mirrored "windows" all over.  Something about it felt a tiny bit off, and I can only assume it's the blend of the old and new feeling details.  There is a lovely salon that is exactly what you'd expect to find at a hotel called The Georgian in the heart of Atlanta.   The cast of Gone with the Wind stayed here in 1939 during the Atlanta premiere.  Which you know, woo.
I wouldn't  mind staying here on my next trip out.

I can not speak for the food at the hotel but the rooms are spacious and cozy.  We had a 2 bedroom suite which was huge!  Had everything, kitchen, washer & dryer, living room, made my place back home look sorry.  The staff was friendly and sooooo polite, I am not used to that, so 2 thumbs up for the stay!

Great place to stay.  Stayed in a suite with all the comforts. The wrap around sidewalk-porch-veranda is great for people watching making the next big deal or relaxing and sunning. If you walk in the neighborhood, beware it can be a little edgy but down town in any major city you need to keep your ears and radar up. The Fox Theatre is directly across the street. Trip plans included The Georgian and The Fox it was perfect. Walking from a wonderful room to one of the finer theatres in the country a wonderful performance. Only problem show was at 8 over at 10:30 walked back to The Georgian (with 5000 other people) and thought hmm what for late dinner .... Nope they close the kitchen at 10:30 had a drink at the bar, went up to the room to order Room Service and nope they close room service at 11 PM. I would suggest to the management that people from later time zones visit. Seemed extraordinary and I do not understand where you have such a huge captive audience and close early??? So should you go to the theatre. Eat first or pack your suitcase with energy bars.
