I love the old elevator in this place. It's creaky and made of solid wood. You can see the old handle used to crank it decades ago. It reminds me of old buildings in New York.

The location is great, a few minutes walk down to the beach, a few blocks over from the pier and a short walk to the 3rd street Promenade.

The hotel rooms looking out on the water have a beautiful view of Pacific Coast Highway, the water and late-night Santa Monica activity.
The only thing that isn't great, is that it's located right next to an apartment building where the tenants have large, open windows. Many of them must not care that you can see directly into their private quarters.

I'd like to come to the cafe here, I've heard it's pretty good. I like that patio seating outside of the brightly colored hotel.

The minute I stepped on the porch for breakfast with the girls at this quaint, colored hotel, I felt instantly transported to another time period. The one where the background music has a heavy banjo influence, everyone seems to have a southern twang to their accent and females wouldn't be caught dead wearing a skirt above the knee.  It was whimsical!  The ambience and view (looking right out onto the ocean with the faint sounds of waves crashing) were spectacular.  I was surprised that for a Saturday morning there were plenty of open seats on the porch (there is no inside seating), but I was elated to know that I didn't have to wait!
The service was wonderful, as the staff seemed eager to please and made the experience that much more pleasant.
The food was simple, but satisfying nonetheless (we were offered both the lunch and breakfast menus because it was 11:30).
All in all, every single one of us left with a smile on our faces and a positive review of such a charming little establishment.

I came out here to meet some friends for brunch who were staying at the hotel. My friend decided to stay here because they allow dogs as guests.
We ate out on the porch, which allowed us to eat with the Santa Monica breeze and view. The menu was short and simple, but interesting. For example, my friends ordered benny rancheros which was basically huevos rancheros but with eggs benedict (sans hollandaise sauce).

I ordered the sunset which was the basic eggs, bacon, toast and potatoes.

It's a great place to chat with friends in a laid back environment. The food was decent, but I had to drop it to 3 stars because there were a few odd things. First the service was kind of strange. I was a bit confused by the server and she seemed like someone who was pretending to be nice, but didn't want to be there. Secondly, the food was also served as if we ordered room service (the plates were covered with the metal covers and on a tray).
This is a great place if you have out of towners and I would suggest coming early since the porch seems to get busy quickly.

Classy place. Got a room with an ocean view which was lovely but really really loud at night because of the traffic on the street. Bar on the terrace was not too exciting. Recommend going to one of the nearby bar/restaurants for drinks instead.

this property is sweet.  It's close to 3rd St Promenade, the Santa Monica Pier and of course the beach.

the service is good, the breakfast menu is simple and drinking on the porch is wonderful.

Overlooking the beach, watching the sunset and drinking the whisky... outstanding,

Beds are comfy, shower head are affective and the place, though it's an old building has the modern comforts of a hotel.

My husband and I recently took our Anniversary "getaway" to LA/Santa Monica. We stay at the Georgian Hotel for 2 nights and it was perfect for what we were looking for. Very close to the ocean, Santa Monica Pier, 3rd street promanade and other local hotspots! Also, a short drive to Malibu, Venice Beach and other LA sites. The Georgian Hotel had such an inviting atmosphere with the front porch (with an amazing view) and a generally friendly staff. We used the valet service for our rental car and they were always prompt when we called to pickup the car and were on top of all of our needs. There are many shops, restaurants, bars, and convenience stores nearby. The beds are very comfortable and they do provide turndown service in the evenings with a weather report for the next day!
The very very small negatives: The historic and beautiful elevators are quite small. Also, there is some noise on the back of the hotel in the early mornings (maybe request a room closer to the front) but everything else exceeded our expectations.

I enjoyed this hotel so much that this is now my hotel of choice in Santa Monica. The staff was very friendly. The room service was fast and the maids also did a great job. It was relaxing to enjoy breakfast on the Veranda (the french toast is delicious) while soaking up the scenery of the ocean and the different people walking, biking, and jogging past. The location is great. The hotel sits extremely close to the water, pier, and 3rd St Promenade.

There were only a few minor things that I think could have been a little better given the price I paid for the suite: the phone in the living area didn't work (I didn't care too much because I used the phone located in the bedroom once); a strip of the bedroom blinds was missing; I could hear the activities of another suite clearly through the bathroom vent.

This is a nice hotel with lots of character.  I appreciated the vintage feel of the elevator as it slowly creeked its way to my floor. The rooms were not cheaply put together and were very comfortable and clean.

An excellent and terrifically located hotel with an old school feel, but modern ameneties.  It's right on Ocean Ave., facing, you guessed it, the Ocean, and its just a couple minutes walk from the pier and the 3rd Street promenade.  That was convenient, because that was about all I could check out in the time I was in town.

The rooms are nice- LCD TV's, Aveda Bath products and plenty of room.  The only thing that was sort of weird was the elevators, one of which had a door you needed to open to get in- not such a big deal, but an easy thing to forget about and have it surprise you.

The last detractor would be that it's not the biggest place, so the restaruant/bar in the lobby isn't much.  But you're minutes away from a zillion places to eat, so it hardly matters.

i've been staying here a few days and have a few left before i leave. this is one of the more comfortable and genuinely attractive (with its art deco style, old elevators, nice hallways, interesting fire escapes, ...) hotels i've stayed at.  you won't find any paper thin walls or ugly faux lux here -- just nice rooms, friendly service, and a good location.  breakfast is also delicious and the valet staff were extremely cooperative and communicative when i showed up on a motorcycle.  wifi internet is included and works well -- i haven't had to bother the front desk with any dropped connection issues.

unless anything goes wrong in the next few days i can't do anything but highly recommend The Georgian if you need to stay in this area.    (hint: they were also having some pricing special and this ocean-view room is a STEAL, too!)

Had a great stay. Staff was great. Rooms were nice. A little pricey for what you get, but good location helps.
I would stay again-maybe off season when rooms are not so expensive. Plus you have to add parking/tax to everything.

Yeah, it's a bit pricey.

Yeah, they gave MY BUDDY the beach suite larger than some apartments I've lived in.

Yeah, we didn't stick around for the drinks and they didn't allow early check-in. Pfft. There goes YOUR TIP.

But this place is OLD SCHOOL. It has those old elevators where you have to open the door, and the elevators move slow like they should. This wonderfully appointed (and I HAVE to say this, because it makes me seem more diginified) and elegantly decorated hotel is sooo close to the pier you could walk to it, and Third Street Promenade is right there.

Unlike the Standard (I think I reviewed that) where they were trying so hard to be hip, this place is hip just in it's hipness.

The Georgian, a teal (sea green) historic building with great customer service. Right near the ocean and the 'fairway' where artists play in the streets. There is a path to run near the ocean.
Great price for such a prime place.

Having been locked in my aunt's hybrid, blazing along some Southern California highway, I nodded emphathetically that yes Santa Monica would be a great place to find some lunch. My mom and daughter lounged comfortably in the backseat not knowing the horror of watching my aunt sit sideways in her seat and talk to me with one descriptive hand and steer with the other. This lady can't even remember a conversation I had with her three hours prior, why is she driving like this? But I digress, obviously. :o)

I finally insisted that my aunt pull into a parking garage and shaddup about paying for parking because I'm from Seattle and that's just what you do, goddamnit. The November day was extremely sunny and a modest 74, give or take. I was starving and the second place we checked out fit the bill. The Georgian Hotel with it's wide, yet petite veranda complete with large wicker chairs and round glass tables. It was noon-thirty, lunch time, and there was no one about. As we looked over the menu, an extremely polite man asked if we were going to have lunch. His amazingly sincere smile prompted us all to smile and nod in return. We sat in the shade on the veranda, I looked out west and annoyed my child with Pacific Ocean facts. Of course when she saw the pier with the roller coaster the discussion turned to the movie THE LOST BOYS.

I had a ham, brie, and avocado sammich on toasted white bread. It sounds so basic doesn't it? Well it was basic and it was also one of the tastiest sammiches I've ever had. Of course the avocado was Jesus like in it's perfection and I had nearly a full half on each half of my sammich. The accompanying salad was odd though, and that's where the minus one star comes in. It was a spring greens salad with some red pepper slivers and dried cherries and walnuts. I despise walnuts. And I also despise fruit of any sort in a green salad.

Other then that, the place was very clean, the staff above and beyond friendly, and all over the lobby and in the back by the restrooms there were all kinds of black and white photographs from the turn of the century and on, and it was a real joy to see the history of the area from the Muscle Man contests to the first Pac-Highway car jam.

Disgustingly Cool!

My girlfriend's family stayed here when they were visiting us and I didn't want to leave.  The rooms, service, etc. is all fine, but what makes this place is the front porch.  It's got a small cement porch area looking right over the ocean.  Everyday at around 4 they set up a little bar in the lobby of the hotel where they make drinks, and they also put out tasty chips and salsa,  guac, all the good stuff.

Sitting on that art deco porch, watching the ocean and the people walk by, drinking your refreshing cocktail is just about the most relaxing thing I've done in L.A.; and I wasn't even the one on vacation.

The hotel gives off a really cool old school vibe; you could imagine Hemingway, or perhaps one of the beat poets, hanging out, getting tipsy, and pounding away on their typewriter.  This place gets the imagination and the creative juices flowing.  I can't wait to go back.

My favorite part is their elevator, its the original elevator, it creeks and moves very slow. It reminds you of the Hunted Mansion. Walking down the halls give you the feeling that you are walking trough history but at the same time it kinda takes you away from the real world outside. The building is very old but very well taken care of. The beds are super comfy and the room is nice to just sit in. The location couldn't be better. on Ocean blvd and about half block from the peer (not far but not in the middle of ped traffic) the price is high but you feel good about spending it there. We did not dine there as there are too many good places to eat in SM. The $21 valet is ok since you can park and take your car as many times as you need.

Just seeing this listed on Yelp brings back some great memories. Anytime I'm in Santa Monica it's between here and the Hotel California down the road. I love the architecture and the rooms have since been renovated and redecorated since my last visit.

You're right across the street from the beach which means a great view for people willing to pay a little extra. Walking distance is the 3rd St. Promenade and lots of shops and restaurants. Why stay in all the traffic and noise of West Hollywood when you can stay just 20 minutes away right on the beach?

As Joe P. pointed out, the front porch on this puppy is definitely by far and away where it's at. I've never stayed in the rooms at the hotel, so I can't say much about the hotel itself, but in terms of lounging on a sunny Santa Monica day and watching the sunset with a refreshing alcoholic beverage in hand while having a relaxing conversation with friends, you can't beat The Georgian Porch. Personally, I am a huge fan of drinking on porches with friends, so when I came across this place, I was most definitely in heaven. Drinks prices are average for a hotel bar and the service has always been fairly "unnoticeable" to me -- meaning not great, not bad, you just don't notice.

I highly recommend The Georgian if you're looking for a place to have a drink, watch the sunset, and just relax with friends.

This is a great art deco style hotel close to the 3rd street promenade and Santa Monica pier. The bed was extremely comfortable and the staff was very friendly. The parking charge is a bit much but still cheaper than some of the other hotels.

Having breakfast on the porch/balcony is great and if you like French Toast (yes I'm a french toast addict) you have to try the French Toast souffle which is to die for.

For cheap drinks and great crepes head around the corner to Cafe Crepe.

This was a lovely, lovely place to stay while I was in Santa Monica.  It's more expensive than I normally would go for (thank goodness for business travel!) but still reasonable for the location and the beachfront view.  The staff was wonderful.  On my second-to-last day I tripped and bashed up one of my toes, but my regular late-night calls to the front desk of "Any chance someone could bring up some ice in a plastic bag?" were met promptly and pleasantly.

The only legitimate downside is the fact that the walls between the rooms are very, very thin.  I feel like the people next door could probably hear me typing on my laptop -- forget about playing music.

But back to the good stuff.  The veranda at the Georgian is spectacular.  I went there one morning, took my laptop, ordered breakfast, and got work done.  Food's good.  I didn't get a chance to try the signature "Georgini" cocktail, so I will have to go back sometime and try it out.  Location's excellent.  Waterfront views are very awesome.  And since the place is an actual historic hotel that's been recently renovated, the beachy Art Deco style is totally quality.

Another advantage: If you want to tell your friends where you are, you can just say "the turquoise place."

Just stayed at this place last weekend and it was great!
Very nice room.  The ocean view room has a large bathroom, with a mini living room with a sofa, lounge chair, desk area, flat screen tv, minibar, flat screen tv in the bedroom, and a large comfy bed.  There are two remote controlled ceiling fans with light and the bedroom and living room are separated by this cute white doors and curtains as if it was a beach patio within the roof.  Very cute decor, clean, simple, nice green/beige/brown colors.
I love how its so modern inside but so as they say "art deco" on the outside.  Stands out.
Staff is very nice.  Valet out front for $21 overnight fee, but unlimited ins and outs (that wasnt used because you can walk to everything).  They offer beach towels if you ask them and they have internet.
The location is great.  Its about a block away from the pier and right across it.  Its faces the ocean and is very near the beach.  Walkable distance to everything, food, 3rd street promenade, pier, etc.
The only bad things are that the internet cut in and out and wasnt very good even with the ethernet cable, there were not much other amenities like a rooftop pool, but they have the cool bar out front and a cozy verdana.  Also there is absolutely no sound proofing.  You can totally hear the cars on the road, and any other noises from the outside.
Otherwise I love this place.

This is a nice place to have a drink. They have solid wooden chairs and  a great outdoor patio.  The service was decent and it was not crowded. However, there was a rude attention seeking couple at one of the tables that was a little distracting.. I don't know if they serve margaritas or pina coladas because I ended up getting a vodka tonic but it would seem like a good choice on a hot day to go here and sip something really cold.  I don't know about the hotel it is probably okay if you want to pay high prices

Built as a luxury hotel in 1933, the first high-rise building on the Santa Monica waterfront, it was converted into an apartment house in the late 1960s, then returned to its stunning Art Deco glory and status as a deluxe property in the mid-90s. Located within close proximity to the Third Street Promenade, Palisades Park, the Santa Monica Pier, and the upscale dining spots along Ocean Avenue, the property is a glamorous alternative for those who prefer not to stay in the charmless glass-and-steel high-rises in downtown Los Angeles, about a twenty-minute drive away. Guest rooms, many with ocean views, are decorated in soothing pastels or rich earthtones and feature wireless Internet, direct-dial phone with dataport and voicemail, cable TV with Nintendo and pay-per-view movies, mini-bar, coffee maker, iron and ironing board, hair dryer, laptop-sized safe, and plush robes and Aveda products in the bath. Twenty-eight suites have sitting rooms separate from the sleeping area. You can start the day with breakfast or enjoy a front-row seat for sunset on the spacious verandah. Rack rates start at $235.

Dining at the Georgian Hotel's The Veranda always reminds me why I live in Southern California. Gazing upon the ocean, watching the rollerbladers and dog walkers go by and dining al fresco in the fall while other parts of the country are bundled up in sweaters make me savor each moment here. Then add a breakfast with The Veranda's signature dish: The Georgian Hotel's French Toast Soufflé, I mean, how can it get any better. Well, it does, especially when my cousin lives within walking distance to the hotel so we head on over to sit on the veranda and share whatever we eat. You can get a hefty and satisfyingly delicious omelet with fluffy pancakes. The waitress we had at breakfast, whose name escapes me but she had short wavy red hair was just awesome. She's everything a waitress should be - genuinely friendly, attentive, revealing just enough about herself to make her personable and downright nice. Of course, she wasn't from LA so luckily hasn't become jaded yet. Lunch was delicious too. On another visit we had Brie & Mango Quesadilla, the ahi tuna and another entree salad and weren't disappointed. Although the waitress that time didn't live up to the previous one, the food was just as delicious and the weather was just as accommodating.

We've stayed here twice this year 2007 and it was great. The room was clean and spacious. The location is great also.

The lunch food on the porch was pretty good too!
When it gets a little chilly on the porch, they even have a blanket available upon request.

At least from my experience, i thought the service was fine. no complaints.

Thanks to your reviews, we were  not disappointed. It is an old style charming hotel but it was refurbished and the staff is nice. We didn't find the room or the bathroom to small as some people have suggested yet we are from Europe so hotel rooms are not huge there. The room was decorated  with warm tones ( yellow, brown) nice old photographies hanging on the walls, modern TV and mini-bar with drinks and snacks. The bathroom was clean  with old style turquoise tiling, plenty of towels, basic Aveda samples. My husband forgot his shaving gel so the staff brought 2 samples immediately. We had an Ocean View room at the 6st floor, since we had requested one upon booking.Yet it was noisy, there no double glazing so we had to use earplugs. We gave our car to the valet parking ( about 20$  for 24hours ), the valet was quick and helpful We spent only one night there and didn't eat.  All in all we  were happy with our one night stay, since the hotel was so nicely located we could visit downtown Santa Monica quickly and continue our journey.

We walked by this place several times and always saw people enjoying breakfast on the veranda.  We decided to check it out, and had a very nice breakfast.  The baked French toast souffle' was incredible, and the design-your-own omelette was done just right.  The bacon which came with the French toast was extra thick and tasty.  They still serve those little jars of Knotts Berry Farm jams, a nice touch.  The server did a good job and offered a choice of expressos or brewed coffee.  The cappuccinos were very good.  A nice way to start the day.
