I've been a resident here for a long time. I've been a patron of "The Game" since it was Trappers years and years and years ago. As far as this area goes, they really DO have the best breakfast in town. No long lines like Brown Bag (who's prices are as ridiculous as their portions, who can eat all that???) No runny eggs like Shari's and the food is actually fully cooked when you get it, unlike Denny's. I get that there are really picky people out there but even tho I have had a few meals not turn out great, I still understand that not every restaurant can be perfect every single minute of every day. I think some of the comments here are a bit over the top. First off, the nachos are literally one of the best things on the menu and I don't even really care for nachos to be honest w/ you. They come in a large serving too which is great, especially if you're sharing w/ a group. The fried green beans are friggen KILLER the only thing wrong w/ their potato salad is that it's not the cookie cutter crap you get in a plastic bowl at your local market. I think people are just to used to the same ol' same ol' so places that try to add some 'zest' to their food end up getting crappy reviews instead of a "no thank you can I have something else?" Picky is as picky does I guess but if you want my opinion, again, on The Game, as far as Kirkland goes, it's the only spot I'll go for Breakfast. Since tearing down Frosty's, there is no other place in Kirkland that serves even close to this caliber of breakfast food. At least not one I've been to that I can also get a decent bloody mary..Mmmmmmm bloody marrryyyyy :) So that's my update!

Review from Susan H.
King, WA
We came in on Wednesday night for the special. It was BBQ Ribs, choice of potato, green salad or split pea soup. All in all the food was just ok. I had hoped to find the meat falling off the bones but alas - not the case. In fact, not even close. Had to fight to get the meat off in most cases.
Also, the potato salad tasted different and we could not figure out what was wrong with it. It was almost like they had put a cheese spread in it. But it wasn't a good cheese spread. Anyway, we were sorry we hadn't gotten the fries! Hard to get the salad wrong, naturally. The soup was just ok. Overall - an ok meal for an ok price. That said, I wouldn't order this again. I can get better ribs at the Outback, just saying.
I should have taken pictures but we totally forgot to do it. Oops. Next time!
Anyway, we've come here for other specials on other nights that were tastier. I'm not sure why it's so hit or miss. Different cooks? No recipes - just slap it together based on what's on hand? Dunno.
Oh - and I 100% agree with Spaceman S - the nachos are an extreme disappointment. We've tried those a couple of times. However, the French Fried Green Beans are very, very good. We also like the potato skins; however, sometimes you need to order 2 extra sour creams and extra green onions on them.
Next time I'll snap photos of the good stuff. I may just get the fried green beans, skins, and salad since they are consistently quite good! -

I had passed by this place several times, always reading their sign that claimed they had the best breakfast in Kirkland. One Saturday morning my boyfriend and I decided to finally give this place a try.
When you walk in it's a very cozy welcoming place. The staff is nice and so are the patrons. The temperature inside is perfect.
The food is where it started to really go down hill. My favorite breakfast is biscuits and sausage gravy so naturally that's what I ordered. I was really disappointed when it arrived and I saw it was so small and looked just like it came from Denny's. The problem was it tasted even worse. The gravy had zero taste and there was very little sausage. The biscuits were nothing special. My eggs were decent, but they gave my boyfriend scrambled eggs instead of over easy. His bacon was also a bit overcooked.
We might come back for drinks sometime, but definitely not for food. -

Eh, nothing special going on here.
The food is greasy but you expect that from a sports bar. Service is ok, no complaints. I would rather take a drive and eat somewhere else but The Game will get the job done if you are looking for a quick meal or beer. Play it safe and order a burger. -

There are few places that I'll give 3 tries if its bad the first 2 times. I am just unimpressed in every aspect of the place. Food is mediocre. Service is... Absent or uninterested in the patrons... They will glare at you if you ask to change the channel to another sports team... And the seating is lacking.

Kirkland, WA
The name describes it perfectly. This is a neighborhood sports bar with an American cafe style menu of breakfasts (served all day), burgers, and sports bar grub, all of which are extra large in serving size and well made (as you've seen in other reviews, sometimes the food can be hit or miss, my example being that some of their buffalo wings were dry and stale). They have an impressive selection of beers on tap and a very friendly staff. The crowd is a nice mix of young adults and middle aged folks, always giving the place a nice atmosphere. I recommend it if you live nearby and want to enjoy a few pitchers and some grub with friends on a weekday night.
My main gripe is the cramped layout of the place. From the outside it looks like a pretty decent sized place, but once you walk in, it's pretty tiny, tables are squished back to back and being a sports bars they should have more strategically placed TVs, if you're seated in the corner faced away from the bar, you have to turn around to see the tvs at the bar, which could easily be fixed with some tvs placed in the upper corners. A minor gripe to be sure but it's the little bits like that and the food needing a tad more attention that prevent this place from getting a perfect score. -
Review from Lesley D.
I have been going to The Game for years and I have to say, it gets better every time! Its usually very busy on the weekends for breakfast, and its pretty clear why...the food is fantastic! Particularly the breakfast in my opinion although their nachos are world class and so are their BLTs + fries. Don't swing in here if you are in a rush, because sometimes it can take a while. Watch a sports game on one of the many TVs, play trivial pursuit with your friends (there are cards at every table), and know you will be getting some great food.
Pros:
The food!! (BLT, Fries, Nachos, all breakfast items = good! I don't eat red meat, but my friends say the burger dip is awesome)
Trivial Pursuit cards
Tons of TVs with various sports
Stiff drinks
Great micro-brew selection
Cons:
Its not a fast food diner, sometimes it can take a while to get in and out... -

I could not agree more with Jake's review.
This places routinely boasts it's spot as "voted best **** in Kirkland".
(it varies from breakfast, grill, bar, and such)
Voted by whom? I want to meet these people and revoke their voting rights, forthwith and for all eternity.
There is not much redeemable about this place, other than as the lazy Kirklandian sports bar. Even then, it's questionable to me. I'll admit I'm no sports bar aficionado, but the layout alone would make this an awful place to get your beer and cheer on.
The breakfast menu is tiny. And what the servers seem to routinely forget to ever tell ANYONE is that they have rotating breakfast specials (that double the size of their breakfast menu) on a TINY little placard by the door, almost completely engulfed in other advertisements, fliers and general crap.
The food didn't stand out, the service was questionable, it shouldn't be a family restaurant during any hours, the layout is bizarre and unfriendly to both patrons and the service staff -especially when busy - and the 'bar height' style tables with stools are not that comfortable for any stretch.Listed in: FAIL, Since I became a Kirklandian, Juanita Row 1/Juanita Row 2

Kirkland, WA
Pretty lame. Not quite sure what they're going for...a zany mix of dive, mom & pop, sports and boardgames. Yeah, you read that right. Food is on par with what you'd expect. Nachos are substandard, definitely don't order those. I've had other things on the menu, but they were so forgettable that I am drawing a blank.
There are better options within a couple miles (Sluggers, Liquid Lime, etc). -

I like this place, their cobb salad is delicious and they have lots of dressing options which is nice. My hubby loves their prime rib dinner which comes with a huge slab of meat, salad, baked potato and veggies. Oh and they have a hefty beer selection on tap. Always had nice service and one time I left my phone on the table and the guy chased me half away across the parking lot to get it back to me. So that's pretty nice.

My boyfriend L-O-V-E-S the corned beef hash.
I think it's pretty tasty but never order one for myself. Looks really fattening.
Breakfast is run of the mill, and pretty overpriced in my opinion. Not really the best of Kirkland or anything but good enough. There is a super kooky (and maybe a little drunk) waitress there on the weekends, she's nice though - I'll leave it at that.
The bloody Mary's are pretty tasty.
It's a greasy spoon, They have TVs everywhere with sports playing on them, They sell food, booze, and beer. There's Trivial Pursuit cards on all the tables - the name "the Game" is as it suggests quite apropos.Listed in: Brunch

Lame. Show up 40 min before the NCAA football Game of the Week and they won't put it on. It's a sports bar and every tv had the same game on. Moreover, the place wasn't even 1/3 full. No doubt one tv could have been spared to show the NCAAF Game of the Week (which was #3 vs #4). Instead, every tv had UW v Eastern Washington. I appreciate that the bar should show, and even prioritize showing, the local UW game but come on!!! It's an unranked D1 vs what I presume is a D2. A sports bar should at least be willing to put ONE tv onto the #3 v #4 game and not leave every tv on the same game. Lame, lame, lame. We left to find a different bar.

3 solid stars. We tried this place out for lunch today. We split the french dip sandwich which was pretty good, I don't think you can really screw up a french dip though. We chose the soup instead of the fries, and while the soup was also good I think we really missed out on the seasoned fries we saw others enjoying. The food is the real draw here, the bar honestly needs some updating. It's pretty dated and has that funky old bar smell and the music is horrid! (70's disco) I will come back for a quick lunch but I don't want anyone to see me coming out of there.

Sorry, but I'm just not impressed with this place.
I've given this place a few chances to wow me and they just don't. I had read some reviews that talked up the breakfast so I decided to give it a try.
Ugh, you gotta be kidding me, they only had like 5 different options for breakfast. You could have an omelette(with various options), the Big game, biscuits and gravy, French toast or the small game. I chose the Big Game, which was just 3 eggs, your choice of meat, bread and hash browns, nothing exciting. I was hoping for something more, maybe a chicken fried steak breakfast or even an eggs benedict, which I found out they had later as I saw someone eating some. I asked about the eggs benedict and was told it's not on the menu just the daily specials board that I apparently missed and isn't located where you can actually see it when ordering, no because that would just make sense and this place doesn't have any of that!
My food was ok, but how hard is it to cook eggs, some sausage links and hash browns? Well the eggs were over easy but runny too and that kind of grosses me out to see all that runny white egg, eww. The hash browns were blah and were the only thing I didn't finish. The whole meal was just sub par and not even as good as Denny's, which is pretty pathetic.
I'm tired of giving this place chances and I don't see myself coming back, but if I do I'll give there burgers a try and if those aren't good I'm done!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Omaha, NE
I came here while visiting Kirkland with my family. My wife has some fairly specific dietary needs and it is often difficult to find a restaurant that will fulfill her usually complicated requests -- none of this, put that on the side, can I just have a side of this, etc.
When we rolled into Kirkland it was already 9:00 PM, and according to our family who live in the area, the sidewalks mostly roll up at that hour. They had called around and found that this place was open. From the name alone it sounded like a sports bar that would serve crappy bar food and have surly service -- no chance, I thought, that my wife would be able to eat there. Why don't we just go to the Olive Garden? I thought -- often enough they'll do what we ask. But we called them to ask about their menu anyway.
The manager who answered the phone said the magic words: "Our philosophy is, if you order it, we'll make it." What a relief!
When we got there, we saw that it was indeed a sports bar -- serving bar food, indeed, mostly fried and grilled things, but the menu was reasonably expansive, and the quality of the food was excellent. "Everything is made from scratch.", said the manager, whose name, sadly, I don't recall at the moment. "Nothing processed, nothing reheated."
Certainly that seemed true of everyone's food. My wife said the plain baked potato (butter and sour cream on the side, please, and a side of veggies) was one of the best baked potatoes she had ever had. I was not in the mood for a heavy meal after traveling, but I thought the grilled cheese sandwich very good, and the navy bean soup (no ham, and with diced potatoes, interestingly) was excellent. My mother-in-law was very impressed with her hamburger. I don't recall what other people at the table had that night, but everyone seemed very pleased with their food.
I am also a huge beer snob and I thought their on-tap selection very good. I tried the 9 Lb Porter -- I forget who brews that, it wasn't one I know -- and it was excellent, a good classic porter with I'd guess 4% or less ABV -- good to not put me to sleep after a long day of travel.
Above all, the manager's kindness and friendliness really made this a fine dining experience. It was not a busy evening, so he took time to hang around our table and chat with us. He is a very interesting person to talk to, and he clearly cares about working to make The Game the best restaurant it can be -- he had a clear sense of ownership, not just I-just-work-here-ism, if you know what I mean. He said he was working to change the place from "a bar, to a restaurant that happens to have a bar."
I'm not sure what's with the negative reviews I've seen here, but I'm not a local and I will not get many chances to come back here -- but the next time I am in Seattle I will be sure to come by. -

The Game is just down the hill from my house. It is a good gathering place for a drink, big plate of food, excellent and friendly services and the game.
The big plate - heavy, tasty and loaded with carbohydrates
I like all the heavy food packed with the afterward guilt but I never like their fries. The taste is burn, and not salty enough. Adding salt to it does not help it at all. They are not soggy but just not crispy at all.
Look for the Blue Plate special for daily surprise....
Note: I always received excellent service at The Game and did not understand why there were more than a handful of rating with poor or lack of service. Yes, sit yourself even without a sign. Come on, you can figure it out or the staff will tell you just pick your favorite available spot. The staff are very attentive even when they are very busy at times. Not to mention, they are always friendly with lots of return customers. -

I live around the corner from the Game and usually stop in at least once per weekend. If you're looking to dance and get hit on, you're in the wrong place. If you want to absorb some local color and rub elbows with the locals, you're home.
The bar on Friday and Saturday nights is usually full early on but you can typically find a seat. They have a juke box, golden tee, touch play and pull tabs if you want to be anti-social. Drinks are reasonable and there is an outside patio for those awsome NW summer days.
The food is excellent (for bar food). Infact, the Game was recently listed in the NY Times in the Top 10 best nachos in the US! They are huge so bring friends.
The staff is great and the barflys (I include in that distinction) are ready to engage in a conversation. If this place is Cheers, then you can call me Norm. -

No service = no patronage
The name of this place implied that it was one of those bar and grill joints, not just mostly a bar that might grill stuff should you be deemed worthy of some attention, so it shouldn't be a surprise when we arrived that we had to find our own seating.
Once we cozied up to a table, it took about 5 minutes for us to be noticed by some guy bussing tables, who took our drink order and brought us some menus.
The drinks arrive, but he doesn't take our order and just walks away... that was the last bit of service recieved. After about 15 minutes of waiting we stood up, dropped 5 bucks on the table and told the people at the bar that they could find our money there, and find our business elsewhere.
Worthless. -

They have the best burgers hands down! Every time I'm in Kirkland (which is at least a few times a month) I make a point to eat there. I only ever get the Billy Burger, which is so big I can't imagine how big the Bill burger is. Their potato salad is almost as delicious as the burgers and the fries aren't too shabby either. They also always have a good selection of beers on tap.
I've eaten their breakfast a few times and it's also quite good, though I prefer the burgers.
The only downside to the place is the service. It's really not that great, though you get your food pretty fast anything you need after that may take a bit. But the burger's so good the service has never deterred me from eating there.Listed in: Top Restaurants

My wife has been me telling about the Game for a few years now. Always talking about their famous nachos. I also have some friends who frequent this bar and also rave about the food.
I was in a depressed state and my wife and I were taking a thursday off together. The weather was fantastic but I was still in a funk. We were driving around aimlessly when we came in proximity of the Game. "Let's stop and get some world famous nachos". Said my wife.
Hey alright I finally get to try these nachos.
We arrived just after the lunch rush and the regular business patrons were finishing up their meals. The atmosphere was nice and there were all different types of diners. A fifty something Mom and her Daughter, forty year old guy with his younger girlfriend and six year old son, single businessman dining alone and others. It was mostly full with just a few tables to chose from. We got a table by the window.
The service was courteous and quick to respond to us. Our drinks arrived promptly and our order taken, "we'll have a small order of you world famous nachos".
We were having a nice conversation and having a great time people watching. After about fifteen minuets my wife says, "where and the hell is our food?". I looked up and noticed the cook putting our order on the serving station. "Here they come Honey!"
I must admit that I was excited. I was really looking forward to tasting the top 15 nachos in the world. They arrived with the server carrying them with a towel saying, "hot plate". I looked my wife in the eyes abd we both smiled with excitement.
The first bite was sheer delight. I could feel my depression rolling off my shoulders. After a few more bites mt wife noticed that there was refried beans in the middle of the mountain chips, cheese, guacamole and sour cream. I made an attempt to take a dip into the beans but my chip brokem. So I used a spoon to dip and spread the beans onto the chip. I put that chip in mouth and found out why the first chip broke. It was cold wad of bean lard that tasted horrible. It took a five star down to a two in one bite. If those beans would have been hot it would have been a great plate of nachos. But, they weren't and it was average.
I had my opportunity to taste the top nachos in the region and I could make better at home. The service was good and we tipped well but we will not be back again for any reason to visit the Game. -

Went here the other day and really enjoyed my meal. When trying new places for breakfast, I base my review on a venue's steak and eggs dish. Here, I was very impressed.
Ordered my steak medium-rare - usually, I hesitate to order this rare at certain restaurants because greasy spoons hardly ever get it right. At The Game, it was cooked perfectly. It also had perfect grill marks and great seasoning - I didn't need any sauce for it.
Accompanied by eggs, hashbrowns, and toast, it was a very good meal (The Big Game with Steak on the menu).
I also had a side of bacon which was fantastic, and an order of grapefruit juice, which was freshly squeezed.
I was very impressed with the meal, and I'll definitely be back -

I felt like if I came here often everyone would know my name. This is a relaxed neighborhood bar & grill. The drinks are good and cheap. Love the board games that you can haul out and play. Lots of great TV's to watch current sports events on and comfy seating. The service was actually amazing. My water never even reached empty. The food was good. I actually liked the fries. I like a bit burnt and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They are home-cut which is also a plus. Our favorite though was the onion fried green beans. YUMMY. Never seen this offered anywhere else. These were phenomenal. I would go back for a drink and just these sometime. The nachos looked like a masterpiece. I swear there were nachos coming out every 5 minutes. I have been wanting to try this place for awhile and it took a snow storm to get me to try it. Nothing else was open! :)

This is a great neighborhood grill located in North Kirkland. The food is very good bar fare. The nachos and taco salad are a lot better than the mexican place across the driveway from it too. The beer selection is very good too.
Happy hour is great, and they have things like trivial pursuit cards available for fun at the tables.
The atmosphere is very much a sports bar atmosphere. But that's not a bad thing.
The only issue I have is that the biscuits and gravy, while good, are small. The value could be a bit better on that one dish.
Well worth the visit! -

We live close to this restaurant and finally decided to try it. My husband and I both like breakfast alot, so we're fairly selective about our breakfast locations. Food: fine, Service: awful. More like self-service.
We arrived a weekend morning about 10am. There was only one table and my husband had to go hunting to find it. No 'seat yourself' sign, nothing directing someone coming in for the first time. Eventually the bus boy noticed us and gave us some direction and brought a high chair for our son. We got menus and drinks and waited a while to give our order. I noticed that hardly anybody around us had food. The table next to us was very clearly done when we arrived, but they had to ask for their bill, and it took a long time before they actually got it. I don't know if a waitress was out sick, but the service was very slow and incomplete. Not long after the neighboring table got their bill, food did start to show up on other tables. It eventually showed up on ours. However, we didn't have any silverware to eat it with, my husband went and got some from the basket on the bar. The extra plate for our son that the waitress offered, never materialized. Our waitress never came back to check on us. Later in the meal when we needed a coffee refill, again my husband ended up going and getting it himself.
I had a custom omelet, my husband had the eggs benny, which we did see on the specials sign because we'd spent a little while in the lobby. The food was good, but nothing special. The biscuit (I generally judge a breakfast place on their biscuits) was good.
We won't be coming back, we'll continue to head over to the Brown Bag in Kirkland. I don't like their biscuits, but it's my current favorite breakfast place, what does that tell you? -

When I moved into the Kirkland/Juanita neighborhood I was of course looking for a homey bar n' grill to make my own. The Game is it.
The food is definitely good, well above the standard for bar food. The nachos are great and the chicken wings were also above average for the Northwest. (I'm originally from upstate New York, so I know a good wing.) The waitress said they make their own wing sauce, and it was probably the best I've tried in the 2 years I've lived in the area.
The bar staff and wait staff were very friendly. A respectable selection of Washington brews is offered as well as a specialty drink menu.
To do the name of the bar justice, they do have a shelf with board games as well as ample TVs for sports games, and the standard bar arcade games & pull tabs.
I've also gone for breakfast and enjoyed that thoroughly as well. One trait of home that I've missed here is the ubiquity of small breakfast diners. The Game's breakfast does a decent job of filling in that gaping hole in my heart (and stomach).
I don't think you'll leave the Game disappointed whether you stop by for beer or for breakfast (or both). -

The Game gets 5-Stars from me for the food.
When you want a burger to die for--something you can't get anywhere else--you order the "BILL BURGER" :
Comes with lettuce, tomatoe, choice of cheese; add the bacon, avocado, and mushrooms and you have a meal for two. It's 8+" diameter and loaded with the goodies it's 5-6" tall (and reasonably priced considering it comes with a pound of fries too!)
You're not coming here for health food so forget your calorie counter at home. If you're really lucky, you'll find Pot Roast on Monday night. Cooked all day long, it's the most flavorful and tender beef around.
This is good, old-fashioned food-- for anyone who knows what that is anymore. Hi quality, good tasting, wonderful ingredients. Lots of it for a reasonable price.
Warning: I'm giving the game 5-stars on the food. I order out because the service is spotty. The cooks and counter staff are great. Of the three waitresses, you want the nice little older lady with the glasses and the big smile (she calls everybody "Honey")--if you don't get her you're screwed. -

We went once, and the food was outstanding. But, the non-alcholic drinks are awful. My iced tea tasted like laundry water, and my wife's lemonade wasn't much better. But the food made up for it. So I'd recommend it, but be careful what you order to drink!

i drive past the game everyday, and i've been wanting to try "the best weekend breakfast in kirkland," as their sign says, but my friends and i decided to go on a thursday night instead. i got a beer of the month (new belgium's skinny dip--not bad) and a reuben. it was yummy. our server was really cool--she even knew the chris farley/david spade/adam sandler gap girls snl sketch ("i just love their fries!"). prices are very reasonable, especially during happy hour. Four of us ate for $50, excluding tip (four sandwiches, five beers) during the non-happy hour time. tvs around the restaurant play sports, and there is also a pretty good selection of board games available to play. the outdoor seating area is nice, although it gets direct sun, and only one or two tables have umbrellas. my friends facing the sun were pretty much blinded until the sun went behind the trees.
one negative: REALLY slow service (15 minutes for a to-go box??) when it wasn't even that busy. that was annoying.
overall though, the game is a good place in kirkland to go grab a beer, some greasy food and hang out with friends or watch/play a game. i'll be back. -
